Hello all.
First - sorry if i post a dump post in a wrong place. I hope it's okay .
Second - i'm considering buying a new phone. New = another one, not brand new, but used (it's cheaper this way .
I have 2 candidates for now:
Sony Xperia J
Samsung Galaxy S Plus
How do you people think, which phone is a better choice in the means of performance, quality and future development on xda ?
I ask for opinions like advantages/drawbacks, not "i like samsung, so buy samsung".
In this price range there are also: Xperia Miro/Tipo, Xperia U, HTC Rhyme, Desire C.
So, how do you people think ?
Helo bro...first of all i would recommend u dat u dont go xperia j. The reason is dat the processor is 1ghz and runs wid the gpu of adreno 200 which our x8 runs on. Secondly the midranged smartphone dat i would recommend is xperia u..it runs on dual core 1 ghz processor the same u would find in xperia p...the ram is also friendly 512mb... Lastly i think it depends on ur taste per se...every ones view is different..
Sent from my X8 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for a quick reply! I didn't know that U has dual core processor - i thought it's worse, because it has 'only 1ghz' and some stuff worse comparing to xperia J.
I'm waiting for next recommendations, this was a nice one!
I recommend Xperia U too.
But with U you actually should know these facts:
1-low battery backup ,comes with 1350 mah battery which can't feed your large screen & thirsty dual core processor. (White magic LCD can save 70% energy some times but it's not enough)
2- 12 gb user available memory which can be extended by sdcard. (U can use USB flash disk but it hard to handle & drains more power)
If don't play with your phone it's a perfect phone, stylish(won some rewards for design of 2012 phones)
I don't recommend galaxy advanced cause it's outdated & no official ics rom(+looking like s##t)
Think about Xperia P too
compare others at gsmarena.com
Sent From My BEAST , I mean X8
Hmm, 12gb is almost too much space for me, so it's not a problem!
And if the battery will last for at least 20h of using (1 day) this will be enough for me too.
I don't watch movies on phone and ocassionaly listen to some music or play a game, but mostly i use it to browse the web etc.
I will take a look at Xperia P.
Thanks! More replays are still very welcome!
Dont go for samsung galaxy s plus . my father has one and feels very cheap in hand the materials are cheap plastic.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I'm currently thinking about the Xperia P. I thought Xperia U has a micro-sd card slot but i was wrong - and 4gb of storage withoth the possibility to extend it is a bit too little...
Xperia P is a little to expensive, though. I'll try to find it as cheap as possible, maybe i'll make it
Thanks for comments and don't hasitate to post another ones
EDIT:
i've ordered Sony Xperia U today! I will have to deal with 4gb only, but i hope i won't suffer too much . thanks for all the suggestions. cheers !

Here's a quick review :
Build quality : is pretty damn good,
Display is what you expect any Sony phone to be, Video viewing was simply amazing, good colour and equally good contrast.
Sound while playing music and videos, was pretty crisp, and clear, not too loud, and no jarring.
Camera, just a couple f shots, and I would say, its pretty good, but not top notch, maybe a shade lower than s4 and i5 but that maybe because of the screen resolutions of the other phones in comparison.
I inserted 32 GB sd card, and have been using 3g , connectivity is competent, call clarity is acceptable, nothing to write home about, but don't get me wrong I am not complaining.
Phone works like a breeze, with the processor and RAM, combination, have a pleasant experience, played Subway surfer, for some time, graphics, and stuff looks very decent, and smoothness make me realize what I've been missing. Now I know what project butter is all about.
A dedicated camera button, is a nice little add-on bonus, it focuses and shoots, it also wakes up camera, (of course)
BATTERY : I have not completed a day, but in 3 hours of use lost almost 29 % of the battery which includes quite a lot of fiddling with the phone, so I think , on a regular day I would not have a problem of running out of juice. but still with smartphones, U never know what to expect. I think this battery should be something between s2 and s3 ( the phones that I previously owned) i did a quick comparison with my old s3, and i am happy about the size, more happy about the smoothness, Not sure about the battery, I think s3 wins this one.
I hope this answers some of the curiosity, for now, please feel free to ask questions, not too much of a Phone expert, will do my best.

Day 1 of the xperia zr
Mixed opinions about the phone. I've come from a Motorola RAZR maxx so I've been spoilt rotten by the big battery.
The good first:
The screen is amazing. Simply marvelous to look at and the colors are epic. The camera is fantastic and the phone is such a breath of fresh air from the slow processor on the RAZR.
The waterproofing works as advertised. Dunked it in some water and it worked even with wet fingers. So that's a good thing.
The not so good now. The battery is not the greatest. Down to 42% with just about an hour of screen on, a hour of bluetooth on and about 45 mins of talking.
Not the greatest. But I'll have to buy a fewer extra chargers and get with the program.
Attached screenshots to make this completely legit.
Also, gps and 3g on throughout.

Weekend so no real reason to kill the battery.
Played a few songs off sound cloud, made a few phone calls, connected to my cars bluetooth and did a bit of Internet surfing

@djpeesh Final Review
djpeesh said:
So it's been three weeks with this phone. Here are my thoughts:
1. The water resistance is amazing. Played around with it at my local pool and the results are stellar. Works as advertised and the camera is excellent under water. More about the camera later.
2. The phone is exceptionally fast. The 2gigs of ram and the quad core processor mean that there is absolutely no hanging. The phone zips along and doesn't stutter even when you change the orientation of the screen. It's snappy and gets the job done quickly.
3. I've already got it rooted. Thanks to @DooMLoRD.
4. Most bloatware is easily removed and doesn't piss me off anymore.
5. The camera is exceptional. Really. It's the best phone camera I've used. Pictures come out nicely and there's minimal noise. The only hitch is night shots which have quite a bit of noise and are a little grainy.
6. The battery, especially with the stamina mode on is ok. I get a full day of work done before it dies and I fiddle around quite a bit including pairing it to stream music on my hour long commute twice a day. It dies by 7pm on a heavy use day. Yes, it isn't the RAZR maxx but I can live with it. Without stamina I find my phone dying pretty much by about 3 pm after unplugging it at 5 am.
7. I haven't faced any network connectivity issues and the sound being low is a feature that's been talked about a lot but it only happens after I take it into the pool and only for about ten minutes.
8. The removable battery also means that this is a phone that I can keep for a while. The battery is already listed as an accessory on the Sony website so it should be possible to have two batteries that I can swap out when I absolutely need more juice.
9. If you turn data off and use it just for calls, sms and as a music player and a camera, the battery lasts about 3 days. I just got back from holiday where there was no data reception. I used the phone for about 20 mins of calls a day, about 30 mins of music and about 30 pictures a day. Lasted for two and a half days before needing a charge. Of course, as soon as I got home and turned on data, the battery started dropping.
10. I would rate it on par with the s4 that my buddy has (without the gimmicks of course). The plastic back also means that it is less susceptible to the glass at the back breaking like has been reported by those who have the xperia z, including a buddy who now regrets not holding out for the zr
All in all, the phone has been one of my best purchases in a long long time and I would definitely recommend it to anyone on the fence even over the xperia z and the s4.

No doubt the ZR. You should be asking yourself if you really need that 2 extra cores and water proofing, at the cost of battery life. The Xperia SP beats last year flagships easily, so it really isn't that weak.

Its depends on you bro. I think ZR will be around 31000 or 30500 Rupees. You have to spend extra 6000 more for ZR by comparing SP. If u have that much amount means no doubt... Go for ZR... Other wise SP..
And for ZR the Front Camera is VGA. And the battery will be more drain comparing with SP...
I would go for the sp if you dont care about the waterproof.

I would go the SP.
ZR being a Quad core will consume more battery.
I am a ZL owner.
It has a 1080p display, quad core etc, you end up charging it at the end of day.
With SP its the same battery size as ZL but 720p display, dual core.
If you are not specs hungry, I'd say go for the SP.
There will be a negligible difference in performance but a noticeable different in battery life.
If the price difference is small, then ZR.
The question is how much more is it worth being waterproof, 1GB extra RAM, 2 extra cores (still the same old CPU as in Nexus 4).
Now, if Sony would put a Snapdragon 600 on ZR, keep the resolution 720p, put a high quality IPS display, then this phone would be a star. I guess that would also cast a shadow on Z...
Bottom line is ZR is in a different price group, so SP remains the best performing phone in this price range among the large manufacturers.

if you use your phone more than your computer, you definitely want a good battery life, go with SP
Dual and Quad core not so big difference, but the 1 vs 2 gb of Ram might depending upon how many apps you have opened at the same time
Also, for the price you can get 2 SPs for the price of one ZR.
Got my zr, delivered, last evening, so far so good, battery is removable, thank god for that, sound, speed, looks, 1st impressions are great, have ditched my s3 for this one as this one's smaller than s3, and has more ram, hope I'm right.

Hi guys.. right now I am about to buy a new phone... SP comes into my consideration and i find it pretty cool and powerful.. Though.. yesterday I found out that there is also P6 in the offer... What would you recommend ? I am probably going for the SP, but P6 has got 4 cores. Does it make that much of a difference ?
Personally i dont know anything about P6. So my recommendation is SP. Go For SP.. But while purchasing pls check one main thing in SP. Touch problem while Charging. U cant use ur phone while Charging.. But new phones doesnot have that problem i think. Any way make sure at the first day of the Purchase...
And also put ur phone in a flat surface and then use it.. That also a famous SP problem.. So pls check both of this two problems first..

galaxy s3 has 4 cores and in benchmark the SP is much better then S3 with 4 cores. Also Xperia sp has 4g (LTE) better battery and Andreno 320 GPU also is best gpu 4 playing games... i think xperia sp is the right choice..
Sorry for english (not my native language)
Its not the ammount of cores that tells you if the performance is high or not. It is the overall feeling of a device.
I've tested both the SP and P6 and I find the SP more suiteble for me.
Reason:
- UI: I dont like the UI of huawei
- GPU: Adreno 320 is very powerfull
- CPU: Cores and speed dont tell everything
Things the SP has:
-Notificatio ledbar
- Bluetooth 4.0
- 4G (LTE)
- NFC
Things the P6 has:
- Wireless charging
- 2GB RAM
Go to the website of sony and huawei and compare the features and specs. Dont use comparison websites because not all the websites have the correct specs.
Also go to a store and try both phones

Yes but the SP too
The SP's 2 cores have a higher clock speed and the chipset in general has a superior manufacturer.
Don't think the P6 has 4G either.
The extra RAM on the P6 is useful though - 1 GB of RAM is OK, but Sony steal quite a lot of it for system resources - 2GB means you'd have to be doing insane amounts of multi tasking to ever worry about it.
I suspect there will be much more development on the SP, if you're into custom ROMS.
My reasons for chosing the SP were 4G and familiarity (I like using custom ROMS, know how Sony do things and am used to all the flashing tools etc.) - I also like the fact that not many people have the SP.
please see test of P6! the touchscreen response is very poor, however, the touch screen of the SP responds only in a few situations even bad. mostly is nice.
Thanks guys I am going for the SP... i am sure i wont regret ...thread can be closed

i am basically a gamer guy. i currently own xperia x10 and with right improvements in the system, i can run modern combat 4 almost flawless(apart from phone's bad multitouch) i am not rich enough to get the xperia z and i don't wanna go for chinese phones either.
since in india 4g launched recently,i assume we will have the non LTE version (C5302). is that gonna be written on the about phone screen?
Hey Folks got a question does Gta San Andreas works on this device? Cause i cant find any gameplay or something like this,
Asphalt8 ? Modern COmbat 5?
Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat work fine, however the first one might require 256mb of swap to run lagfree. :good:
Didn't test those games on lollipop however, last time I played was back in my stock 4.3 days
Cause i might buy this device (yes i know its pretty old but still gold ) im asking cause i bought a device that didnt run gta sa cause of tegra 2 and i dont want that happens again ;D
U say lagfree ;D? On which settings hope not on low ;D
Does lolipop boosts the phone? Less ram consumption faster of opening apps and the rest compared to 4.3?
Thx for the answer though

Honestly? If you want to do gaming with a phone, get one with more ram.
Xperia V is an awesome device without big issues (both on software and on hardware), but the battery is really small (4 hours of screen on time when doing usual stuff, 1-1.5 hours when gaming) and of the advertised 1gb ram, only 768mb appear to be usable, and that makes modern games quite likely to lag (unless swap is used)
Lollipop and stock 4.3 didn't do much good to ram management either - On my phone, with a minimal setup of apps only 250-300mb is actually usable.
If I talk about lagfree gaming, I mean 'without stuttering'.. However, were talking about ~30fps here.
That said, due to the lower resolution and quite modern cpu technology I managed to beat the S4 in AnTuTu's graphics score, and, running my overclocked personal custom kernel, also the S3 in general benchmark score.
So, the phone is definitely worth its price (and not going to die too soon, I will care about that ), but it might not be the best choice for gaming.
Hope this helps mate

In my humble opinion, if you have such a choice, get the Xperia Z.. The quad core cpu will certainly make a difference.. And you have a larger development community, so you can be quite sure to always have the latest CyanogenMod officially supporting your phone. In addition, battery life is much better.
