[Q] Rebooting Chromecast - Google Chromecast

Ive had a search and can't find an answer. My chromecast is plugged into my Denon amp and no matter what I do, everytime I try Netlfix or Youtube casting from my tablet, it loads up and plays 3 seconds or so and then the CC reboots.
I've tried restoring to factory, signing in and out of Netflix and Youtube but still zip. Any suggestions before I take a hammer to it? I can;t send it back either as it was sent from the States by a friend.
Its updated to the latest version.

Sounds like maybe Chromecast isn't getting a good-enough WiFi connection. Try using the HDMI extension and/or repositioning your router.
For a solid test
Unplug Chromecast from your TV
Put it near your router
Cast to it
Watch the LED to see if it reboots
If Chromecast doesn't reboot in this case, then it's definitely a WiFi signal issue.
It might be a heat issue as well, since amps get hot. HDMI extension and repositioning the Chromecast should help that as well. I have one of my Chromecasts on a 3-meter HDMI extension cable.

Its literally 30cm away from the router,so getting a good signal. Its plugged in to my amp not the TV although it does this with the TV too.
I tried it again and watched the LED light and he LED turns red then it reboots. This is again after about 3 seconds.
Ive also enabled multicast in my router settings.

30 cm might actually be too close due to signal reflections.
Does it only reboot under load, not when idle?

Closer doesn't always translate to better but the fact it reboots says to me it isn't network related and you may have a lemon CCast or a bad update that didn't install correctly.
Heat would also be a very good possibility here, How hot is the unit when it reboots?

Only under load. I managed to get it to play 24 seconds of Grimm on Netflix. Thats the longest I have had. Youetube seemed to work ok then did the same again after a minute. G Music works fine.

I might still be right about bandwidth, but have to say this is sounding like it might be a damaged/defective unit.

Ok, the bandwith point you mentioned got me thinking so I decided to check my router settings for wifi and wireless mode was set to 'up to 300Mbps'. I changed this to 144Mbps and tried again. So far so good. I've got through 1 minute without it crashing.
EDIT - Spoke to soon. Going to try lowering it minimum. Managed 10 mins though

Pandora Issue on stock unrooted

Hi guys,
Did a search, but couldn't find anything on this problem; Pandora is very unstable on my stock, unrooted 1.1.0 Nook. about 70% of the time, it won't play the next song in my station; it's dead silent. When I wake the nook up, I see that it's on the next song, but it won't play at all. When I hit pause or forward, the song controls disappear, then it takes a long while to load into the next song.
Sometimes it will play 3-4 songs in a row no problem, but then it starts acting up again. Is this an issue with the wi-fi connectivity? Anyone else have this problem? It happened when I was on 1.0.1 too.
Any help/insight is much appreciated. Thanks!
Is your nook sleeping when you notice this happenng? If so it would make sense as I am fairly sure the wifi shuts down when the nook sleeps. It usually takes a few seconds for the wifi to reconnect on waking up. If anyone knows different please let me know, but that seems to be my experience.

It happens in sleep mode and while it's awake. I spoke to a B&N rep, and he told me that the wifi disconnecting on sleep mode should have been fixed on the 1.1.0 update, but that it's still disconnecting on many Nook Colors. He also blatantly said that they didn't spend too much time on the Pandora app itself. He basically told me to wait for the next batch of updates to hopefully fix these issues.

This is most likely caused by a hardware/software/wifi problem between the NC and wifi. Go to settings/devices/wifi. Typically you see connected with "testing" or disconnected. It happens after a large amount of data is streamed to the NC. You also see this problem if you download samples of books or "SHOP".
What is the model of your wifi?
Are you using 802.11n or g or b?
Are you using encryption.
A simple test is to go to a BN store. If there's no problem then it's the Router/NC at your home that's the problem.
The NC is the first wireless device that I have encountered problems at my home.

I'm using g at home, and I'm not sure what is at my job, but the issue happens there too. My wifi security at home is WPA2-PSK [AES]. The Nook does not take long to connect to my router, but it still disconnects when in sleep mode. Again, not sure about the setup at work. After trying all the troubleshooting methods, I finally called Barnes & Noble today, and they are sending me a replacement.
Barnes & Noble's replacement came in last night running 1.0.0, and Pandora streaming couldn't be any better! I'm afraid to update it to 1.1.0 in fear that it will screw it up.

Thanks for the update.
I think the problem is with NC 1.0.1 and 1.1. The wifi connection got worse with 1.1. When I used Froyo from an SD card, the streaming problem went away.
You may need to stock with 1.0.0 until BN fixes the problem and come out with 1.2.

Sorry, meant I was on 1.0.1. Streaming Pandora at home is phenomenal. At work, not so much, but I attribute that to their router settings. My phone sometimes has problems with their connection as well.

Netflix app losing connection to Chromecast?

Hey I haven't seen this posted yet, so I thought I'd ask about it.
Does anyone else have a problem using their device with Netflix, casting to Chromecast, then it somehow losing connection? This is happens on both my Nexus 7 "flo" and Nexus 4. I turn on the TV, switch to the Chromecast input, etc. Then I boot up Netflix on my tablet, select an episode, then cast to my TV. After it's started, I'll press the power button on my tablet to turn off the screen, and set it aside. When the episode is over I try to pick the next one by turning on my tablet, opening Netflix, and then selecting the next episode. 80% of the time, it won't work. The Netflix app loses connection or something.
This is what I've noticed when this happens: When I first press the power button my tablet to turn on the screen, the Chromecast lock screen comes up with a picture of my show, then the usual pause/rewind/stop controls. If I try pressing one of those, the tablet shows that it worked, but does not do anything to the show that is playing on Chromecast i.e. I press pause, the pause button switches to the play button, but the episode keeps playing. If I press back, unlock the tablet, then open the Netflix app, it opens up to the current episode with all the controls and the seek slider. Again, any controls seem to work on the tablet, but nothing on Chomecast/TV. I also notice that the seek slider is stuck at 00:00. If I try to switch episodes by hitting the little "i", then pressing play on one, it won't go anywhere. The button "presses", but Netflix sits like I didn't press it. Now, if I try to get into the Netflix app by using the Notification panel, it tries to open Netflix but just sits there at the Netflix app splash page, with the red Netflix logo, and the spinner at the bottom to show it's loading the app. That goes on indefinitely.
There is no way to change what is happening on Chromecast unless I force quit Netflix, clear the cached process, then boot up Netflix again. Then, it'll pick up on the cast and I can change episodes and control whatever. Again, this happens probably 80% of the time. Anyone have any idea what's going on? It's kind of annoying since by the time I force quit Netflix, clear the cached process, boot up Netflix, and finally change episodes, the credits have all rolled and I'm sitting at the "Ready to Cast" page. If this is a common problem, I'm sorry. I searched for anything similar, and I also read the first 3 pages for anything like this and nothing came up.
Your not the only one. My connection to the ChromeCast drops all the time with Netflix and sometimes with the Google apps also. However with mine I have to restart my phone to connect again. Force closing and clearing the cache does nothing for me. I have tried the CC on 4 different WiFi routers and I get the same problem with all of them, so I am thinking it is the CC itself. Hopefully future updates will fix connection stability.

Same problem. It's super annoying
Same here.
This didn't happen to me until the update to build 13300 - that ironically included "more robust wifi performance" or words to that effect.
I get it with YouTube although less often than with Netflix.
Wonder if I'd get flamed trying to add this to their defect tracking system?
Edit and PS - I did my best to let someone know.

Same here. My CC has been dropping connection since day 1. I have tried couple of routers and resting the device to factory conditions. Once I am able to connect, I can watch a movie for 30 minutes and after that the connection to CC is lost on my phone, nexus 7 or my laptop. I have to restart cc to regain connection. Google support is not able to troubleshoot.
Just to follow up: Since the last few Netflix updates I don't seem to have this problem anymore.
I'm still having it.
I also have the same problem with Netflix and the Chromecast

I have the same problem, often the cc button isn't even showing in the Netflix app, or if it is showing, it is only for a short while. And controlling it while it plays (when the button was there to use), is mostly impossible.
In YouTube/music it looks to be working fine, but netflix, forget it.

Same way here. Updates seem to have resolved it. The Netflix app itself is still horribly slow and TV shows don't autoplay but that's not really a chrome cast problem.

With me, it is the opposite, unless you are talking about updates I don't have yet (my app is the latest there is from the store). Worked fine (as far as I can remember) for two weeks, stopped working a few days ago.
However, I have been tampering with my modem to get netflix US in my country (there is a local netflix, but I wanted the US version). Allthough music and youtube don't seem to have a problem, it might conflict with the netflix app/service?
I've been tampering with nothing and updating nothing but the problem subsided for me these past few days.
My Chromecast led was blinking quickly for a while in the middle of the night a few nights back. I don't know if that's normal.
But I'm still at 13300 and the problem has subsided.
Same here. What's confusing is that I never had this issue with my CC until a few weeks ago. Netflix, Youtube, Play Music, etc all worked fine and my CC never lost connection.
Now ...I have to reboot CC every single time as the Chromecast becomes undiscoverable about 30 minutes into a Netflix movie. I can no longer pause, stop, etc. I've meddles with my router settings and even replaced it with a new router ...but still the same issue. It's getting beyond frustrating because it seems that it's a widespread issue but neither Netflix or Google is even acknowledging it.

Having the same issue with Netflix. The odd thing is the chrome cast app can still interact with the device, and I can reboot it that way.

Netflix keeping phone awake since latest update?

Is anyone else seeing this? I am using my Chromecast to watch Netflix on my TV, however, the Netflix app seems to be keeping my phone awake.
I'm pretty sure it didnt do this before the latest update to enable the Profiles?
Anyone have any ideas?

I'm wondering if that wasn't by design as people may have complained they had to wake and unlock in order to pause or control the movie.
All the more reason for Netflix to code in the ability to take CEC commands from an IR remote I suppose (If the CCast really does support two way CEC).
Mine was always awake while casting Netflix.
Well it definitely is staying awake.
I have the latest version on my N7 and the older version on my N4, N7 stays awake while chromecasting and N4 doesn't!
It totally defeats the purpose of the device if it is keeping your device awake while chromecasting since the Chromecast is supposed to pull the stream from the Internet independent of your phone (after it is instructed of course).

Just because it is keeping the device awake doesn't mean you can't put it to sleep on your own does it?
Netflix should not be taking anything from your phone or tablet except Commands for playback.

Chromecast Auto suspend

I need to cast a tab from my macbook to a TV. I need it to not shut off. I have my screen saver shut off on my mac. checked my tv and there isn't a screen saver mode on the tv. It lasted about 8 hours and then when to the chromecast pictures sceensaver mode. Is there a way to disable this from happening? hack?
Just to be sure, there wasn't a loss/interruption of network connectivity or something like that, was there?
Sorry for the double post.

Fix for Chromecast Google Music dropping?? (due to wifi going off I think)

Ive been having this issue forever and its driving me nuts. On my Note 3, I tend to Chromecast my Google Music streams to my AVR to jam out and when the screen turns off it wont advance to the next song. After extensive research I believe this is device specific and nothing to do with the chromecast itself. I tried my other 2 Chromecasts and all have the same issue. Also I tried on my Nexus 7 and no problems. Anyways, it seems as though the wifi is going to sleep (even if just for a second) when the screen goes off, and basically the chromecast doesnt know to continue playing. If I am using the Note 3 and the screen never sleeps, or I use SecureSettings to make it so the screen doesnt shut off while charging, everything is perfect.
I also found that even though in my settings (wifi set to never go to sleep) that going into the Service Mode (##0011#) or something like that, that it was still set to ON, so naturally I turned this OFF. At first it seemed like that fixed the problem but sure enough it came back. I should also note I recently picked up a Netgear R7000 and put DDWRT on it. The unit is 20 ft from the chromecast so Im not worried about that side of things.
Just annoying as hell. Any insight is appreciated
