Info about some Guru Stock Rom Resets - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi all, this is solely an information thread about two of Guru's Stock Reset ROMs (i hope Guru will take note of this and fix the problems) . I didnt know where to put this thread so if the moderators think it's in the wrong section, please move it to the appropriate section.
A week ago, i tried to reset my phone back to stock software so i changed my CID to Taiwanese HTC__621 and my model ID is PN0711000, i downloaded and installed this http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_2-24-709-1-zip/ stock ROM for Taiwanese One through Aroma Installer and it booted up just fine, it also installed the stock recovery and stock radio on my phone but when i tried to OTA update from 4.2.2 , the phone booted into recovery and halfway across the update , it showed red triangle in recovery and gave "assert_patch_failed(/system/customize/MNS/default.xml)" error which meant that the file in the Guru ROM wasnt 100% stock and there was some part of it modified/missing (thanks to @nkk71 for his help and useful info). So i changed my cid to Indian which is HTC__038 with model ID PN0711000, and i installed this reset ROM http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_3-63-707-4-zip/ which is android 4.3 with sense 5.5 for CIDs HTC__038 and HTC__044, this Reset ROM is supposed to install 3.63.707.4 software on the phone but it installs 3.63.707.3 instead , the software information under settings shows 3.63.707.3 while OS in "fastboot getvar all" shows 3.63.707.4. i went ahead and tried to OTA update it with this ROM but it gave variant error because of fw and sw number not matching, so i ran this RUU 1.29.707.4 http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu-zip...0-01_release_312087_signed_2_4_decrypted-zip/ which is for Indian CID HTC__038 , it downgraded my phone to 4.1.2 with sense 5 but i received OTA updates and installed them successfully on my phone after running this RUU , so i hope this thread helps those of you who want to return to stock ROMs using Guru's reset roms, i hope Guru will take notice of these 2 Reset Roms and fix them.

Hey man, sorry didn't get back to you, but i did eventually download that other ROM (Stock_Odex_2.24.709.1_Final) and it turns out it and the Guru Reset ROM, are very close, and both have the same
/system/customize/MNS/default.xml file, so they must be based on the same system dump, and the 3.xx OTA won't work.

hmm, i see, well, my problem has been resolved by running the Indian RUU instead of Taiwanese stock ROM, this is just an informative thread for those trying to go back to stock Taiwan or Indian ROMs. Now , Taiwanese ROM is out of the equation, its stock and Guru's ROM both will have the OTA error, can you try and figure out why this Indian ROM http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_3-63-707-4-zip/ says 3.63.707.4 while it actually installs 3.63.707.3 ?
PS: i think .707.3 is for CID HTC__044 while .707.4 is for cid HTC__038 (India) but in the Guru reset rom link, it says that this (3.63.707.4) works on both MID and CIDs. Plus, you dont HAVE to find out the root of the problem, the problem has been resolved but maybe this information will help someone else. Thanks

hmm, that's a tricky one, his OS version is 4.20.707.6 and he has a South East Asian MID and CID, i have Indian CID and MID and my OS version is 4.20.707.7 (i think .707 is common for India and South East Asia) but i THINK that yes, he will have trouble while trying to do OTA updates with a Reset ROM, i'd suggest that he run the 1.29.707.3 RUU (1.29.707.3 is for South East Asia while 1.29.707.4 is for India) what do you think @nkk71?

Hi mate, he's already on "(bootloader) version-main: 4.20.707.6", but at least it would get his phone up and running... but why not go for a custom ROM instead?

oh, thank God i did s-off using Revone while my hboot was 1.44 s-off is a life saver

So I have been away for a while and I am trying to catch up. Can someone summarize what the deal is or more specifically what do I need to modify in the ROM's?
I am having trouble following the OP.
I made them from from stock dumps and signed OTA and firmware files but maybe they were labeled wrong regarding version numbers?
Thanks

Welcome back :victory: :victory:
Hope you are well.
The first problem is with Guru_Reset_M7_2.24.709.1, the /system/customize/MNS/default.xml seems wrong, the OTA "3.18.709.2-2.24.709.1" stops at 68% of the checking due to bad checksum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50836125&postcount=7
I also looked at "Stock_Odex_2.24.709.1_Final.zip" EDIT from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2348502 which I found somewhere, but has the same MNS/default.xml
The second one is Guru Reset M7 3.63.707.4 which is in fact 3.63.707.3 (or a mixture of .3 and .4, I honestly didn't check into it, but saw a few other posts about that)... I can check and get back to you if you need more details, just let me know.
Cheers

Thanks for the info.
So I am not sure what to do about the default.xml as i don't see any other stock dumps of that version with a different version of that file. I guess I will have to edit that one to say that OTA updates won't work.
I also noticed the mix of version on the 3.63.707.4 ROM. When I tested it on my phone it showed .3 on the software version in the OS, but the stock dump thread and download was certain it was .4, so that is what I labeled it. Not sure what I should do with this one.
Anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps someone has a link to a new dump post of 3.63.707.4?
Due to a new job and family stuff, I do not have the same time to devote to development, which is why I haven't made any new Guru Reset's in quite a while.
I know these versions are probably outdated, so if someone has a link to a updated stock dump with the latest version, perhaps I could just make a new Reset ROM from that and pull the 3.63.707.4 version.
Let me know.
Thanks

No worries, but many many thanks for your site, and the important thing are the RUUs
If nobody get's back to you, when I have time, I'll downgrade (have to change MID and CID too ) and try to get you a system dump (or the files that need to be changed) in the Resets.
(not sure when that's gonna happen, as I don't think I have time to wipe/restore my sdcard at the moment...)

How do you guys get RUU files? Do you guys make it or its leaked from HTC?

Cheers dude ... I did look at that a bit ago when I was trying to find it but I want the actual stock if poss from HTC. My current software version is 1.29.401.13, is that an OTA or is that the version of an RUU I need? I looked on the HTCDev site but I couldn't find anything under my operator but then I don't know if I can just flash a generic UK RUU or Europe or what lol, bit more to it on this phone than on my previous Xperia Ray.
The one listed should be fine m8, just know that you can't relock your phone properly.
the one i downloaded to keep for my sim free UK is RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_4A.13. 3231.27_10.31.1131.05_release_310878_signed.exe from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39588860
restore that and it should prompt to update to whatever the latest version is once you boot up
Cheers guys, I'll download the suggested files and have a butchers lol

Hi I have been following this thread, I read the instructions and it says you have to fastboot oem lock and then flash the RUU.
When you have gone through this process do you have to go through the process of unlocking the device via HTC id token again should you want to unlock, root and flash a recovery?

Any idea what one I need mate or is it not available? Tbh, I did try and restore using all the Europe versions on the link and I always got an error telling me it wasn't the correct RUU ... Why is it so hard to restore a One compared to say, Sony. When I had an Xperia Ray it was so easy to do, software direct from Sony to restore to stock, yet HTC have nothing simple when it comes to restoring ... It's blagging my head just trying to find any files to go back to stock.

HTC have never publicly released their RUUs, no idea why. You will need to use mike1986's 'stock' ROM to go back to stock or use one of the Nandroids posted in the Nandroid/RUU thread which is 1.29.401.13 or higher
Cheers for all the help guys, I think I'll just leave it unrooted and stock, at least until there is a stock RUU that is the same as the version I'm currently on, I could use the one from Android Revolution but correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the leaked 4.2.2 whereas I want an RUU for my curren version but if it's not available then I'll just wait and hope it appears at some point ... Maybe I'll take the plunge then when I have all the bits I need lol.

I am in the same boat as you.. My rom is also 1.29.401.13 and i can not find the RUU for it.. So someone correct me if I am wring please.
From what I understand is that in order to use the RUU , you must have the same 1.29.401.13 RUU for this 1.29.401.13.. if you have any other RUU it will not work.. is this correct?
so if there is no 1.29.401.13 out.. then is it only to just use the android revolution 10.1 rom or the stock rom .4.2.2 ?
thanks for anyone who will clarify this .. as I am really lost

What wrong here? can't I get the update this way?

at the very least, its because you have a custom recovery. Thats why the OTA failed
Where can I download stock recovery? and if i got it what i did should work in theory right?
If after you've flashed ruu, didn't flash anything .You already have stock recovery!
Other words ,after RUU you at the stock recovery.
What your MID?
"RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_4A.13. 3231.27_10.31.1131.05_release_310878_signed" seems for 0710000 MID.
More likely, the reason of fault OTA - you are unable to meet mid OTA update.

Oh, I see thank you for the help.. My MID is PN0712000
You are trying to flash the OTA to htc__y13 cid/0710000 mid on phone with 07120000 mid - it's a bad idea.
What to do?
1) You can change mid, but I strongly DO NOT advise - this is a dangerous procedure.
2) You can flash the RUU for your mid and just wait for the OTA update will come to you - it is good

BM is Bell Mobility
I did not find your BM RUU from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39588860
and here

Only a nandroid backup ,but I think it is not full stock, at least a stock recovery is missing and I'm afraid something else.
Time you were already flashed by the European RUU, let will change MID to European. And you will be have completely European unbranded phone.
if you decide do it .. print here " fastboot getvar all" (without your imei) I'll check your current state.

how to get back to 2.24.401.9 ?

Hey.
Im currently runing 4.3 GE on my HTC ONE. Did it with 4.3 GE RUU.
And sence touchgroup didn't release their RUU, I don't know to go back.
I thought about going back to some RUU of sense 5 4.1 (mabye 2.24.401.x) , and changing my Cid and ModelID to
PN0711000
HTC__K18
and get the 4.2.2 - 2.24.401.9 OTA update.
Is this possible? thanks.

Are you S-Off or S-On?
If you want to downgrade, first thing you need is to S-Off.

That's good. So if I understand correctly you want to go back to 2.24.401.2 to be able to receive the OTA to 2.24.401.9? If yes then here's the backup:
stock rom: (originally for HTC__J15)
backup_2.24.401.2.zip 992.9 MB
https://mega.co.nz/#!bJFwTK5A!dFlFjw9hCq98SHxPKC9jxRn9GdwcvcoBcKaDdn2pQJU
stock recovery:
Stock_recovery_2.24.401.1.img 8.5 MB
https://mega.co.nz/#!PQ9BnSBS!ZAqGcgKi7hXiXDXFs7yKaEQASMgcab5t4vjw19__92A
probably best to also flash a 2.24.401.1 firmware (or 2.24.401.2, don't think it's available though).
PS: the procedure you are about to take will probably wipe your phone so backup everything to your PC
If I misunderstood, let me know

sorry to keep you waiting , my bad
so before the above, you should run a full Sense 5 RUU (exe), get one from the Guru: http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/ruu-file-downloads/
to restore everything to HTC Sense not GPe, then you can proceed with above
anyway keep S-Off, that's your ticket if something goes bad.
I'm about to sign off for tonight, so if I don't reply tonight, I'll check in on you tomorrow....

1- I believe so, unless HTC__K18 and HTC__J15 (same MID), have something else different.

2- Unfortunately, just changing CID and MID to "TouchGroup" (or any other carrier), won't be good enough to get OTAs, you need to be based on their ROM.
3- Other alternative: change CID and MID to European WWE (unbranded), run the RUU.exe and get OTAs that way. (the phone will look like a completely unbranded European WWE edition)

Hey man. Its been a few days , and I got the RUU I wished for.
So now I'm on :
Bootloader *Locked*
Android 4.3 Google Edition
system vers: 3.07.1700.1
Cid: HTC__K18
Mid: PN0711000
And I'm willing to flash Sense 5 - 2.24.401.9 - 4.2.2 RUU. ------- which only workes with my current Cid and Mid.
Would it go smooth? I'm going from 4.3 to 4.2.2... (I'm also asking about the downgrade, but generally on the whole procces.)

Roms with Aroma Installer never work. Suggestions?

My HTC One has all the necessary prerequisites for flashing Roms. I'm not sure how to check s-off though, but I think that's the case. I can flash Roms that do not use Aroma, but if the ROM contains Aroma there is no use. They all freeze at a certain point, I believe around some part that has to do with the System. For example, Maximus HD freezes at 1% when formatting something. Any help would be appreciated. I have looked a lot for the last few days, and can't seem to find an answer.

Okay so I'm assuming that you're flashing a kk rom here. Are you on the latest recovery and also on a kk base with the latest radios and hboot already on the device? Also make sure you're flashing the right rom for you're device. What device do you have? And also send the link to the rom you're trying to flash just so I can double check that it's correct as if it's freezing at 1% then all I can think that is the problem is you're either trying to flash a kk custom rom on a jb rom without updated firmware and radios or your recovery is out of date or the 3rd reason could simply be you're trying to flash the wrong rom for your phone.

That is the rom, It's Maximus HD. My hboot is 1.54, I'm not sure if my phone has the latest radios, but I have the latest TWRP recovery. 2.8.0.2 I think? I have the HTC One M7 for AT&T., but it says HTC One UL in the same screen I found the hboot. I believe the phone was converted to the GPE edition since it says GOOGL1 on the hboot screen. (I bought this second hand)
EDIT: I just want to add that Android Revolution HD yields the same results, but at 10%. And my phone is currently on a stock build of Sens 6 4.4.3, but the rom before it was GPE.

If you go into your bootloader you'll see under the **unlocked** message you'll see something that has the phone model and then ship and after ship it will say either s-on or s-off and for the ROM you're trying to flash you have to be s-off thankfully you're on hboot 1.54 so you can use rumrunner to gain s-off if you're not so check that

Have you checked the md5 of the ROM to make sure that it isn't just a bad download or something which you would just need to re download it again?

Redownloaded, same issue. My CID says CID-GOOGL1, could that be the issue? I heard that the CID is supposed to be something like 1111111 or something like that.
After every attempt, when I restore a backup, I see the text "E: Unable to mount ' /cache' " in red

Yea that's actually what I was just about to say haha I just had to grab the links to the CID's so you can find the one for your phone as it's a converted gpe phone not a factory one which means you simply just need to go to the link I'll post here and find the RUU that is for at&t and the CID will be listed under the download link then you just need to change it.
Link for CID: http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/ruu-file-downloads/
Once you've found your CID listed in the link which I'll have a look myself to see if I can find it for you but you need to then go into terminal or cmd and type in:
adb reboot bootloader
adb oem writecid CWS__001
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
I changed the code so that it has the correct CID for you so just type in what I've typed there and you'll be back to normal and it should all flash fine

I always receive the red text saying it can't mount cache so don't worry it's not going to stop you from flashing that's just an issue that I have no idea what's causing it but cache is a temporary file anyway so it isn't going to affect installing a ROM well at least it hasn't for me

[Q] OTA 5.02 Update with TWRP

Hello,
I have looked on xda for an answer before i started this thread but couln't really find the answer or solution i'm personally looking for.. The problem is a friend of mine is S-On with an ex-contract HTC One (M7) CID is something like VODA..... and his HBoot is 1.57.0000 - I'm trying to S-Off his phone so he can get rid of the Vodafone and Flash Firmware and European RUU (This is i can do) but i need to S-Off it 1st ... I installed TWRP so as to root his phone and unlocked the bootloader (HTCDev unlock token) BUT now the problem is, he's just had the Lollipop 5.02 OTA update and of course, cannot instal it with TWRP present :/ i was told just to flash Stock recovery over it? is this correct? and if so, how would i go about it please and how would i get S-Off on his mobile please? I'm lead to believe that Sunshine S-Off is the only option with that HBoot version.. ?
Many thanks in advance to xda and its members :good:

better to achieve s-off now before taking the ota update or you will need to wait for the new release of sunshine (3.0).
Yes sunshine is the only way to achieve s-off on hboot 1.57.
Achieve s-off
change cid to HTC__001
change mid (if required) to PN0710000
flash the latest ruu 7.19.401.2

Thank you - Yes, the CID i was going to change to HTC___001 and the RUU i have is: RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_HTC_Europe_4.19.401.9_R_Radio_4A.23.3263.28_10.38r.1157.04L_release_353069_signed_2-1
Firmware:
fw_4.19.401.9_custom.zip
So would i just look for a European RUU with that No. (7.19.401.2)?
and is that Firmware ok please?
I really aappreciate the help here.
And Sunshine S-Off it is
is this any good please? https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934533542
I meant to add - i can flash the Firmware with S-On can't i? as it's custom.. do i need to be rooted for that? and once firmware has been flashed i will need to Sunshine S-Off or Sunshine 1st then the rest? can i instal that RUU on S-On? If so i will just go ahead (without updating to 5.02) ..would this be ok? I think i need S-Off to chaange CID though dont i? so Sunshie 1st it would be?

No you don't understand, you must use the fastboot version posted at page 4 or it will not work. Read the post you'll understand. The regular fastboot from the Android sdk won't work for this RUU.
I see now ..i got the HTC_Fastboot.exe ...is this correct? also, i'm downloading the European.RUU now .. will this come with the Firmware.zip or will i need to search and flash that 1st please? i'm sorry if i'm confusing the issue but i'm really quite new at this and don't totally understand.. also, would the CID still be HTC___001 and can i change that with s-on? do not flash that firmware whilst s-on, its modified firmware and will brick your phone, you need s-off to change your CID or falsh any different firmware than vodafone firmware.
I discovered that last night i kinda knew anyway that i could not change the CID without S-Off but with everything going on i forgot.. iv'e decided to stick Android Revolution HD 91.1 on his HTC One.. at least he'l have 5.02 and a quick & reliable OS ... iv'e head that 5.02 is the last OTA update for the M7 so it wouldn't matter if he can't update ..cheers for your help anyway
