[Q] US Firmware on EU device - Moto X Q&A

Hello, I know that you can flash the eu firmware on an american moto x to get european languages or so. Is it possible also the opposite thing?
Can I flash a us firmware on an european moto x?
This is because I'd like to root it without unlocking the bootloader, so with the warranty still valid.
I should just downgrade to 4.2.2, but there's no european 4.2.2 since it's shipped with kitkat.
Would I be able to use an american 4.2.2 on an european moto x to downgrade, root and then go back to european 4.4?
thanks

That's a tricky situation as you should be aware. Not all modems are cross compatible. and you're gonna have to do some reading to get your answer, check the general thread. there's a section on bootloaders and firmware you should check out.

Just wait for the updates, it's being roll out right now. You can apply the 4.4.2 update manually to the T-Mobile version here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2638090

[Q] Moto x Carrier Free

I was wondering if there was a way to change my moto x xt1058 (currently with 4.4.2 Movistar Argentina) to an international or carrier free firmware?
I looked up in the firmware link from motorola and there seems it doesnt exist a 4.4.4 update, yet for the moto G it doesnt either but my brother currently have his on 4.4.4
Thanks in advance guys
AFAIK there's no international or carrier-free firmware per-se. You may want an AOSP-based ROM like SlimROM, DirtyUnicorns, etc.
You can flash a bloatware free version, though, but it will still be based on some carrer's ROM.
As of today, only Verizon has released its official 4.4.4 and will be full of bloatware also.
fortunately my phone came bloatware-free.
So the only 4.4.4 update out there is Verizon's?
My idea was to flash a firmware from which i would be able to get the earliest OTAs

Not only is this very risky (flashing another carrier's ROM), but also it doesn't mean that you'll get updates quickly at all!
In the case of the Moto X, Motorola has staggered the updates across all carriers. The camera update came first for 1 carrier. Then the 4.4 update came first for a different carrier. The 4.4.2 update was first for yet another carrier. The 4.4.3 update came first for the XT1053, and the 4.4.4 update came first for Verizon. There is nothing you can do to make sure you receive updates "earliest" - unless you switch carrier ROMS each time a new update is released. Not only is this ill-advised, but it could leave you with an expensive paperweight.
My advise is be patient. Your carrier WILL get it soon.

Moto G (2014) doesn't detect the lollipop update?

So I've had the moto G (2014) for a month now and for some reason I can't detect the latest build version or the lollipop update. My sister has a slightly newer build but she didn't get lollipop either.
Thanks in advance peeps!

Which model do you have? I don't think XT1068 has gotten the Lollipop OTA yet. If you're on XT1064, you can side-load the OTA via ADB.

I just snooped the forums for a quick bit. Sadly Lollipop has not come to the XT1063 yet.
Just in case; I don't recommend you sideload the XT1064 OTA. There have been people complaining in the XT1064 OTA post that functionality was lost since they have a different model.
However, according to this post; Lollipop works. If you decide to use this method, be aware you are flashing a XT1064 OTA on a XT1063 phone. "I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT TO FLASH STOCK LOLLIPOP ROM OF DIFFERENT MOTO G VARIANT. " -AD9295
I suggest you just wait it out; as painful as it may be.

Oh i wasnt planning to flash it anyway, I am too much of a phone noob that i fear i might brick the phone, I was just worried that it might be my device's fault.
I can't get mine to find the update either. XT1064, locked bootloader, completely stock on 21.11.17 in the U.S. Phone just says software is up to date.

Is it a retail, simlock free, device? Or did you buy it with a provider contract? In the last case you'll have to wait for your provider...

Completely unlocked and bought off of Amazon, I'm actually using it outside of the US at the moment.

Purchased unlocked directly from Motorola. Using it on an AT&T MVNO.

Looked it up in the Amazon store: they're selling 2 variants: the US version and the international version. The US version should have the update by now. The International version has to wait.
What version do you have?
XT1063 Global GSM Single SIM
XT1064 US/Canada GSM Single SIM
XT1068 Global GSM Dual-SIM
XT1069 GSM+GSM+DTV Dual-SIM, Brazil model supporting DTV
As far as I know only the XT1064 has the official Lollipop update by now!
If you bought the "global" version, you probably have the XT1063...
Mine (I'm from Europe) is the XT1068. So i'll have to wait too...

[Q] May I flash other stock roms to my AT&T locked Moto X 1058?

I have a locked AT&T Moto X 1058. Currently, my phone is on stock 4.4.4. There are a few bloatwares from AT&T; they are really annoying, especially the AT&T Address Book. May I flash another stock Rom like the 4.4.4 for T-Mobile to my device? I know that the Rom for T-Mobile is as clean as a developer edition.
Any help would be appreciated.
Do you have an unlocked bootloader?

No. The bootloader is locked on my XT1058 and unlocking this model is not supported by Motorola.

FWIW I have an XT1058 from Claro Chile, and I just flashed a Brazilian ROM (original Motorola KitKat 4.4.4). I haven't found any issues, but I have an unlocked bootloader though. So it might work for you.
You can't with a locked bootloader.
Thank you all, guys. Though I can't flash other Roms but only the ones for AT&T, it is good to know.

With a locked bootloader all you can flash are stock ROMs signed by Moto and intended for your phone's CID. In other words, ATT XT1058 with locked bootloader can only flash stock ATT ROMs.
If I have a XT1058 on 4.4.2 on other operator (Telcel, Mexico), can I unlock the bootloader? I kinda want to flash a 4.4.4 ROM, plus, my carrier most likely won't update the phone to 5.0

Yes you can, I have the same phone on the same Network, you will lose the warranty though.

Any recent progress x/ xt1097 AT&T?

I just acquired this phone, and imagine my surprise at finding that if you have the AT&T version with the August 2016 security update, you're basically screwed. Just wondering if there's been any recent success with this. I've been doing a lot of reading, but it seems there's been nothing new posted about it for a while. Curious as to whether anyone's been working on this issue or if it's a lost cause. I've tried the Kingroot methods and whatnot, nothing seems to work, but I figured I'd ask anyway. Thanks.

I am not.
France?
The reason i am asking is i see a lot of new XT1097's on eBay in the UK. I think these can upgrade to MM but i think the bootloader is locked. I really want a Moto X 2nd gen but if i cannot unlock the bootloader without paying $25 then I'm out.
No. I'm in the US. The issue is that AT&T branded 1097's are unable to have the bootloader unlocked without being rooted, and there is currently no working root method if you have accepted the most recent security updates.
Does anyone know if the EU and South American XT1097's than have been updated to MM have an unlocked bootloader?

The AT&T XT1097 is the only remaining edition which does not qualify for bootloader unlocking, and it has no MM update.
So if these XT1097's have been updated to MM, then they can't be the AT&T edition, and they must be unlockable through the official Motorola procedure.
