[Q] KFHD 7" 7.2.3 red screen of death?

Hey geniuses, i have a KFHD 7". i ran the KFHD_SRT kit to downgrade my kindle to 7.2.3 na dgain root access.
i am proficient enough in cmd prompt to use adb and fastboot.
i have attempted to install:
2nd bootloader
TWRP
Kinology
CM10
and aosp
using fastboot i get no errors, everything installs and/or flashes correctly.
When i change the bootmode and attempt to boot recovery, i see the orange KF logo for a split second, then the screen shows totally red, with no reaction at all. all i can do is go back to fastboot and run the SRT to reload 7.2.3
i have followed several different guides (though there is little to no difference between them) i never get an error. i only ever get the red screen.
Has anyone else had this problem? the only red screens ive seen have been on devices that were not rooted or altered at all, and the devices is usually totally bricked (though most people dont know about the fastboot cable, so probably not)
can anyone give me a beginning to end walkthrough for ANY rom with s/w ver. 7.2.3 OR 7.3.1?
*edit* i did just realize that hashcodes 2nd bootloader says 8.9" only but every 7" rom page links me to that bootloader
*edit edit* i found and tried the 7" bootloader, and have the same problem

When you came from 7.3.1 a downgrade to 7.2.3 is not enough. You also have to downgrade the bootloader back to 7.2.3.
The 7.3.1 bootloader includes a fix that if you install freedomboot it will cause a redscreen due to the new verification Amazon put into their new bootloader.
Go to Hashcode's thread about the second bootloader for 7"
And read thoroughly, since you have the red screen, you will need a fastboot cable to fix it

Ah! that makes sense. i did try that that guide and the freedom boot wouldnt flash. it gave me the max. d/l size then failed listing "no error"
I will follow it again on 7.3.1 and post my results. Thank you for your help

I downloaded and ran the KF FIRST AIDE tool and it worked like a charm on all features, until i run bootloader + twrp install.
everything runs succesfully and it reboots to red screen of death.
i did do a factory reset first.
as much success as is had with that toolkit i thought for sure it would be a breeze.
if i have time today ill try the manual flash again

You still haven't flashed the 7.2.3 u-boot, that's why you get the red screen. You MUST flash the 7.2.3 u-boot file (the 7.2.3 bootloader, this will get rid of the red screen) before installing TWRP. It's found in Hashcode's bootloader thread.

AH! man do i feel stupid. i didnt realize the toolkit d/g'd everything BUt the bootloader.
I am now running TWRP, but when i flashed the CM10.1 rom it boot loops. i have re-downloaded and reflashed.
Now im really just wondering if anyone else has this issue before i flash Kinology

When you move from stock to CM10.1, you have to wipe and format EVERYTHING including the two caches (except the sdcard, of course). The reason lies with the kernel.

i did. actually i believe i have found my error. there is a POST flash zip after the rom that i thought was the kernel alone.
im downgrading the kindle now, and trying again. otherwise ill give the kinology rom a try, though i was more interested in CM or paranoid

Does anyone know of a quick way to check the current bootloader version installed? (other than about device, which lists total rom ver.)

finally.
simple kfhd7 romming. (assuming you have a factory cable)
download KF First Aide from XDA and full downgrade to 7.2.3, then root.
run TWRP & bootloader option.
kindle should boot to red screen. if so, power off and reboot fastboot.
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader ../kfhd 7.2.3 bootloader

kindle fire 7 hd rooting noob

ok so i rooted my kindle then i put google play on it it worked fine thin i decided to go even further and change the operating systen to full android so i downloaded the twrp img. and the fireflash.apk and the 2nd boot loader so i did what it said and i also downloaded cm 10.1 experimental-otter2-m3zip jellybean 4.3 i think but any ways after i installed the fireflash and went and located the 2 other files and plug those in and it did show the red warning so i checked the block and i hit flash than i hit ok then i rebooted it took like 2 min then i got the the kindle fire in the color blue and it opened the twrp then i find my cm 10.1.zip file and try to install it then says fail so i need help i have no clue after this so im looking for the most user frindly way to git rid of amazon and just have androis thanks in advance sorry im not the brightest crayon in the box. just need some help plus my computer won't connect with the kindle anymore so I need different drivers thanks again

You installed wrong device zip, ours is tate not otter, try restoring via fastboot

[Q] Fastboot not working (not turning on) due to OS failure

Hi, after rooting my KindleHDX, I attempted to access the google playstore. After installing safestrap, and creating a ROM, I "accidently" rebooted without installing an OS. My kindle won't turn on, and I'm stumped on what to do. I really hope it's not bricked, so I'd sincerely appreciate the help. Thanks

As far as I know you need a factory cable to boot into fastboot.
From there you can restore the Stock firmware

Yea but fastboot is kinda locked down on the hdx if I remember correctly, I believe they disabled the flash command.

[Q] Kindle Fire is stuck in Logo after reinstalling TWRP

Hello, everyone!
Yesterday I tried to flash CM10 in my kindle fire (already running CM9).
I followed the Cyanogen Mod site (wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_otter) instructions.
I downloaded Kindle fire utility 0.9.9 (from CM site), and started the process of updating TWRP. At some point of the installation, KFU rebooted my device in fastboot mode, and kept waiting an awnser from Kindle.
It was taking a bit too long, so I restarted the tablet. Now it keeps on the "Kindle Fire" screen forever, and don't respond to ADB anymore (the "adb device" command don't return anything).
I believe it is not bricked yet, because when we connect it to the PC, it does that connection sound. However, I can't reach it with ADB anymore.
Can Anyone give me an advice for this situation?

You got very lucky, kindle fire utility is not meant for second generation devices, usually using it results in a hard brick. The correct way to update twrp is to grab the latest version's flashable zip from the dev section for your device and flash it from inside twrp and reboot. If you no longer have the blue logo and it is a 7" device you will need a fastboot cable, if you do have a blue logo or this is a 8.9" device you won't need a fastboot cable to fix, but you still need to get it into fastboot mode to reflash some partitions back to stock to fix this unless you get a blue logo in which case you could probably just flash the recovery but from what you said I'm assuming you don't get the blue logo anymore. And only the 8.9" models tend to be detected briefly while passing the bootloader.

In fact, my Kindle fire is a 1st generation one! I had already used KFU to flash CM9 on it (before, it had stock OS) .
Do this fact help in any form?

O well then this is the wrong device forum on xda... If its a kf1 then I think fastboot cable will still apply to this. Not positive, kf1's aren't my specialty, while my mother has one I never did much beyond rooting and installing twrp. Flashed a Ubuntu touch preview os on it once but that's about it.

[Q] twrp bootloop with a factoryboot cable on hand

Hello.
I rooted my kfhd 7 10.4.6 successfully and naturally proceeded to twrp where it got stuck on a bootloop. Now that I have made a factoryboot I was wondering what rout I should follow to flash the rom?
Browsing the topics I see these options:
* continue the process installing the twrp...
* download a toolkit that allows backup
* install ADB
* get fff
Now I'm wondering if someone has just made a restore utility, is there a utility to just restore to the state of having a rom installed?
Also, since I don't care for restoring backups, is there an easier way to flash?
I really appreciate your advice.

Firefirefire is not for this device 1st off, you don't have a kfhd 2nd off. Kfhd is v7.x.x. You have a kf2. Kf2's are 10.x.x.

if your logo turns blue at this point, turn the device off and when you turn it back on hold volume up while the logo is orange and keep holding it even after it turns blue, it should then say twrp and go into twrp, from there you could push a rom and flash it. If the logo does not turn blue then i would put it in fastboot and use kindle fire first aid to restore it, and try again.

which rout should I go? restore or twrp?

It's been a while since I bricked. Perhaps it was 10.4.6 I can no longer access the settings the verify. But now that I have a factoryboot cable. I would just flash cyanogenmod. Now when I connect factoryboot it reads (in a fancy 3d text) "Fastboot" with a small "kindle fire" on the right side of it.
I originally followed a youtube video that had links for freedom boots, twrp, etc... to this forum, but then again I must have downloaded incorrect versions.. I'm not concerned with the date. So I'm wondering if it's easier to restore or continue with twrp.

There are too many guides, here ... which is really great. But the process of download, verification, transfer (to a pc).
If I cant brick this device any harder than it is, I will follow each guide...

I had the same issue... I forgot to remove a script before flashing twrp. Maybe it is the same for you. Did you followed carefully the tuto ?
In my situation, I managed to go into fastboot (with fasboot cable), flashed stock ROM, and did the flashing process from the beginning..

If you only have fastboot access right now i suggest restoring with srt or kindle fire first aid. Afterwards you can start the twrp process over again, we can't simply flash cm from fastboot, if everything else isnt in place like the stack file or the bootimg and a old version of the bootloader then it wouldn't work. Fastboot should be in utilities like kffa and srt

There are so many options it seems, but I think I know what to do now (please let me know if it's not a incorrect course):
First, download and Kindle fire first aid from here, to restore back to and then follow the instruction here in order to start twrp and flashing.

I think the versions are according to kf2 (10.4.6) this time.

I have download and installed many sdks and drivers and checked md5.. while at it. kffirstaid does not really seem to connect with the device. And some messing around with the drivers did occur, uninstalling/reinstalling through downloads and through kffirstaid. It now announces as tate-pv-08 though a triangle is showing next to Android ADB Interface in device manager.. I think something is missing.. Is java sdk necessary? because it doesn't install ..

You should be able to update the drivers of the Tate device using the drivers in my signature and have then programs work with fastboot. Not sure why an adb device and a Tate device show at same time, the Tate device should be the one needing fastboot drivers for it to work.

Hi. Someone yanked out the factory-boot cable and I quickly ordered the scorpion king cable. I downloaded kffirst aide again and there's been a massive update. Running a restore showed all signs of success. But then after restoring it to normal boot, I get kindle fire logo showing and then the boot loop continues.

If kffa fails then try SRT.

I have upgraded kffirst aide and in the middle of restore I do the following statements:
cannot load 'boot-prod.img No error
cannot load recovery-prod.img No error
cannot load system.imp: No error
However at the end there is the success message:
Success!!! The kindle Fire 2 7 has been restored to software version 10.2.3
and yet the bootloop continues to plague the brick..

That means the files it tried to flash didn't exist on your computer. Try srt, it includes those images.

I'm not sure if this is compatible with my device. Perhaps replacing those files/folders would solve the problem?

Oh wait yea kf2 didn't have a SRT.... My bad. Yea in that case you will need the kf2 I ages, kffa is supposed to download them for you but it's possible the links went down for the files.
