[ROM help] Need recent stock rom (stable) - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear community,
I have some issues with my current rom / kernel / radio.
What I think I need to do is a full wipe / factory reset, in the most brutal way.
Now my question is, do I just wipe everything in recovery, or is there a better way?
When everything is wiped, is the rom gone, or just the data?
And, my last, but most impotant question is:
Can someone help me find the most recent stock rom (I have searched, but cant find the right one) for my C6603 (with kernel?) (I live in Holland, with Telfort as a provider)
I have downloaded latest doomkernel, stock. (Can I use this, or should I use another one?)
I need the most stable rom, cause everything seems to be wrong at this moment for me.
Thnx in advance,
James

You can use doomkernel when you have an unlocked bootloader and
in recovery wiped system/cache/data and flash this prerooted rom with dualrecovery and full stability.

Samsung S plus (i9001) Auto-restart problem, and other issues

Hello to all!
First of all thank u xda for beeing so usefull to all android users (like me).
I bought my s plus in April, one week later i´ve sucessfuly rooted (thanks to xda developers ).
Unfortenely this model by samsung isnt popular in my country (Portugal) and this time I could really need your help.
My s plus auto restarts. Sometimes 1x month, 1x week, today por example it restarts 3x in 1 minute. I know when he restarts because i hear the welcome song from samsung.
My question is, is there something I could do to solve this problem?
And the second questions is, what are the benefits of having a new rom. And if it solves problems like this one in particular.
The last question : there´s a app that does "fix permissions". Could this be the source to my smartphone restart??
THANK YOU
First, what ROM do you use? Is it brand one, (i.e you didn't change it since you bought the phone)?
Secod, which apps did you give a superuser permission? For example Invalid or infected app with root access could cause this. Generally rooting your phone means you can easily mess up something (you are administrator, so you can access ALL system files). Try to do a factory reset (for example hard reset with the code *2767*3855# - be advised in will delete EVERYTHING exept your external sdcard and get rid of ROOT) and then install only those apps you trust.
Yes, changing ROM could fix this problem in particular, the same way reinstalling operating system (e.g Windows) can fix a computer if it misbehaves. However this could also be a hardware problem, and in this case flashing ROM won't help and you should take your phone to manufacturer on warranty.
On the other hand it is good to flash custom ROM on i9001 because this phone has a good potential, and custom ROMs will give you a lot of advantages over brand ROM.
Fix permissions is a script which ensures that every App and App data are on their place - matching themselves. If used properly it rather fixes problems than causing them (I used this option a lot), but I am not specialist at this matter.
Hi there.
Thank you so much for the reply!!
The rom of my smartphone its the brand one.
Other specs : Firmware : 2.3.5
Gingerbread.bukp2
I have installed the app superuser + link2sd after I rooted. So i think all the programs have permission. Each time i install a app, it goes to sd card.
I was avoyding a factory reset. I will only do that if there is no other option. And when I do, i will get rid of root and go to the vodafone store with its warranty.
I allready see that there are a lot of roms for the i9001 . I agree with you, there are a lot of pottencial in this phone. What sould i choose? And to install other rom, will it erase all data??
I have the app ROM MANAGER. I never used because i´m afraid not using it right. There is a option that says : "fix permissions".
So..lol....can you give me some advice??
Thank you

Hi there.
So i´ve found several websites that explains how to update to 2.3.6
I have a question, I´m from Portugal and in here there are no oficial updates from samsung, the latest its 2.3.5 .
Can i install a version from other country in Europe? Portuguese language??
Thanks
Don't be afraid o losing data - that's what backups are for. Flashing new ROM means losing all data - system partitions, apps, settings, contacts, call history, sms, and your internal sdcard (/sdcard partition). External sdcard (/emmc partition) is not touched.
Find a "Flashing a ROM" guide on this forum, read read and read it again. Then you will know pretty much everything needed to flash a new ROM.
There is a good site to begin with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Plus/GT-I9001

Hehe, that's how fixing thing work. Maybe it'll work, maybe not
Some other guy claims that its the problem of brand 2.3.3 ROM, so factory reset WON'T solve this problem in my opinion. You have to flash new ROM. What can I suggest?
If you are not afraid o losing warranty (I wasn't) I'd install MoonROM or BroodROM. These are heavily modified custom ROMs, that are very stable, battery friendly, very popular, very customizable, tested many times and considered best. Note that replacing brand ROM voids your warranty, but you can backup your brand ROM with recovery (e.g TWRP - Team Win Recovery Project) and restore it anytime you want (restoring your warranty as well).
If you don't want to lose warranty, it's good to install Stock ROM. It is official ROM released by Samsung, but not ported by your service provider. On this site, there is also list of Stock ROMs. Almost all of them have european languages.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Plus/GT-I9001#Gingerbread_2.3.6
XXKQ1 is most stable and best Stock ROM so far.
XXKQB or XXKQE are prettier (value pack) but more buggy and less stable
Cheers
Edit: Don't use Kies to flash a new ROM. I soft-bricked my phone with it. Flash via Odin or via Recovery
I haven't backup of my stock rom. Now my USB it is broken. Is it possible to flash a backup stock rom to send my phone in warranty?
Thank u so much for beeing so usefull!
I will try a flashing rom!
I have one last question : do i need to unroot my phone before flashing a new rom ? The costumized roms gives us superuser permissions ? I rooted my phone so i can pass the apps to the sd card and to unistall apps like "sims trial...".
Maybe tomorrow i will try to flash a rom, but first i need to know this
Thanks a lot

[Q] Problems with Huawei Ascend P7.

Hello,
First want say sorry for my bad english .
So, i have a Huawei Ascend P7-L10. I have root it and a stock rom named Se7en V1.6. Now i send my phone to the local provider of me, and they have brick it . Now i have fixed it. (First there stand something like "Unfortunaly your boot has failed"). That is fixes, But i tried a lot of roms, and only the Se7en V1.4, V1.5, V1.6 work. If i try another rom its in a bootloop. Even when i wipe cache, dalvik cache, and all that other stuff like a hard reset. But the problem is, most apps won't work. If i start them there stand : "[app] has stopped.", my cam also wont work. Does someone know how to fix it? Or does someone have a stock rom, that will work?

You have a custom ROM not stock ROM. If you want to have a stock ROM first you have to change from custom recovery to stock recovery and then flash a stock ROM. Search the P7 General thread for how to flash a stock recovery.

[Q] Custom kernel flashing (and bricking)

Hi all,
I have recently unlocked my bootloader and upgraded to 4.4.4 (Build 14.4.A.0.157).
Going thru the General section it seem that during the 4.2.2 to 4.3 era that there is a high chance of bricking the device when there is mismatch of baseband/firmware/kernel.
Is the issue still happening on 4.4.4 and is there anything I need to take note about when flashing custom kernel ?
I'm aware that stock ROMs (or variants) should go with stock kernel variants.
Thank you.

-Dude if you already installed recovery then first of all take a full stock ROM backup. So if in future there goes something wrong you can flash it later.
-If you don't have recovery, then install it.
-Make sure you always flash ROM that are made for your device.
-DON'T ever flash different kernels to your device. Your pre-installed ROM may misbehave.
-If you want to use the ROM as a daily driver, make sure the ROM is pretty stable.
-Always try to clean flash the ROMs.
By wiping
Cache + Dalvic cache + Data + android secure + System
Dirty flash often lead to bootloops, soft brick etc.
-Hope this would be somewhat helpful for you.

[Q] Can I upgrade from a 4.3 based CFW to 4.4.4 and keep my Custom Recovery

Hi Guys,
Hope someone a bit more clued up than myself can clarify my questions or guide me..
I've done some searching, but am not 100% confident.
So, I have a I9305 running a Boeffla Kernel 5.2. If I recall correctly, I upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.3, but
kept my old bootloader. So I am rooted and have TWRP on this 4.3 based CFW. No KNOX anywhere.
(Did all this about 12 months ago or more, and have had some significant life events in the last year,
so have been completely out of the scene.. )
Anyway, I was considering upgrading to 4.4.4 (stock)
Can anyone tell me if I can do this and remain Knox free and have a custom recovery such as TWRP.
(If so can you point me to a working guide?)
Thanks Heaps in Advance,
BrikHaus

Hi,
you have 3 options:
- Option #1: Stay with your old 4.1.2 firmware base with OLD bootloader and you can flash which custom KitKat ROM you want (N4 Elite ROM, TGP, AMCHA KK, etc.). If your favorite ROM is NOT compatible with TWRP, you will have to flash PHILZ recovery 6.48.4 instead and then flash the ROM. If the custom ROM is compatible with TWRP, you will only have to flash the ROM.
When you will flash the ROM, don't forget to choose a KK modem (XXUFNI3, XXUFNJ1 or XXUFOA1 depending on the ROM base) to have a working baseband and also, don't forget to choose a compatible Kernel with OLD bootloader (AGNi, HBO kernel or Dlite). Note : Stock kernel is not 100% compatible with OLD bootloader : WIFI will not work.
- Option #2: Upgrade to latest official 4.4.4 stock (I9305XXUFOC1) for i9305 with ODIN : this way, you will have new 4.4.4 KNOX bootloader and you will not have custom recovery anymore. If you want to stay like this, you will be 100% stock and 100% up-to-date from Sammy.
- Option #3: Follow the option #2 and then root your phone and flash custom recovery. You could finally stay like this or flash a custom ROM. If you choose to flash a custom ROM, one good thing is that you will be able to use stock kernel (100% working including WIFI) if available with this ROM.
You can follow that guide from @MaHo_66 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...covery-i9305-cwm-philz-twrp-versions-t2694249
Reminder: To go VERY clean wipe and install a custom firmware :
1. Backup all your data
2. Full wipe (data, cache and dalvik) in recovery including internal sdcard (internal sdcard format option in mounts and storage settings)
3. Flash a i9305 official firmware (4.1.2, 4.3 or 4.4.4) via ODIN. IMPORTANT : If you don't want KNOX BL because of warranty purpose, don't flash official 4.3 or 4.4.4 via ODIN.
4. Root
5. Flash custom recovery : (Philz for instance)
6. Install custom ROM
Steps 4 and 5 can be permuted.
PS: Off topic : @MaHo_66, you're now a RC, well done !
Thanks @FLooDW

Thank you VERY MUCH @FLooDW! Wish I could give you 10x Thanks!
Just the answer I was after. I wasn't sure if it was even possible to have a custom recovery on KNOX 4.4.4 bootloader.
I dropped out of the scene just as KNOX raised its ugly head...
I'm not worried about the warranty at all. Phone is two years old and well out of warranty period.
I'll go Option #3, sounds like just what I was after.
Thanks again!

Yes you can have custom recovery with Knox BL. It's my case and everything is ok for me.

Please let us know.
I saw your sig..
Philz looks like it has more features than TWRP.. Might try that.
How do you find your performance with that kernel & rom?

I'm very happy about perf with latest Amcha and AGNi. I have between 26000 and 26600 in AnTuTu without any overclock.
User experience is great in my case.
I don't use Fly-on mod (available in Amcha for instance) because I've noticed some big lags with my config on my phone.
All went pretty well. Had a couple of hangs, but got them all sorted.
Currently restoring, but having an issue where the phone switches from "USB Media mode" to "Dock Mode" and back and forth.
Weird issue I've never seen before....

SMS and Lollipop 5.1.1

Hello,
I rooted my phone, installed SuperSu, Xposed with Xprivacy, etc. and everything works fine. Except SMS. I didnt noticed first because I dont wirte much SMS. I read others have the same problem. But I didnt find a real solution. They reflashed or Wiped everything (not allways a success) and on my phone ohter SMS apps doesnt work neither. I dont want to setup everything again if possible.
Is there no FIX/Patch which I can flash or a simple workaround ?
Regards liqui
Flash back to 4.4.4 ( i used .93 fw ) , root and install xzdr , create a new flashable rom with prf creator 1.1 ( None Below! ) including fotakernel kernel and modem. Wipe data, do a factory reset via TWRP And flash the newly created clean rom.
Seems prf creator 1.0 wasnt able to handle the modem files... :/
Hi,
I flashed the 5.1.1 agian because I didnt want to wait. This time it works. Did nothing different then the first time

By that you mean you flashed the latest ftf via flashtool?
I'm asking because I have the same problem, except one specific third party app is working, while another doesn't.
Thanks in advance
Hangouts figures to work, but in fact it doesn't. You can recognise it by switching back to stock messaging app, then the "send" SMS are gone. The solution I gave already. That's the simplest way to fix it with Bootloader locked, otherwise root will be lost. UB devices should fix it by flashing the actually used fw by flashtool with a full wipe, flashing a kernel with including recovery. Now just flash the latest SuperSU via recovery
You are totally right, I just hoped there would be another, simpler way. But I got it working again yesterday using your advice. After a little bit of ol' try 'n error I'm convinced it had something to do with the data partition, because when I restored the TWRP-backup, SMS function was lost again, but could be recovered by another wipe. That said, I first was on a prerooted firmware created with PRFC 1.1 and latest firmware but flashed SLiM ROM by wajk over that, so I don't know if the error lay within that ROM, but I'm not in the mood to try any time soon.
Cheers
