Need to access web cache on stock HTC One - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Hello, I want to access the web cache of the default web browser to access a particular html file that has some information I need. I did some digging around and it seems the cache is not accessible through file explorer apps unless the device is rooted.
Is there any way I can either pull the cached files over ADB (without root) or root the device (even temporarily) without wiping the device. I'm running stock everything with the latest OTA updates.

anyone?

[Q] CM7.2 - no write permission in /system?

I had Emanon's ROM on it for a while, but it just came crashing down so I flashed CM7.2... boots a lot faster, seems a bit more stable.
But I used to have full access, and now I don't. How do I get it back? I just want to switch out the bootanimation.zip.
Came across this:

Hi there, you need to have s-off (aka security off or full root) to write to /system and /data with the device booted, i.e. using root explorer etc.
You can also do it with s-on, but you have to to that with your PC via cmd prompt and adb shell which is less convenient.
Great guide to getting s-off here, took me <10 mins!

I've just finished mucking around with a HTC, so I'm a bit confused, but I gather there's no fastboot mode on the Mini, so I can't see how I can access the phone's flash from the PC without using the ADB shell...
And I'm not sure s-on/off is even relevant to the Mini... halp!
Okay, I was able to do it with Absolute System; must have missed the SU prompt or suffered a system glitch when I was installing ES File Explorer.
Anyone know how I can grant SU privileges to ES?

Go to the su app and grant the permission for ES
you are coming from HTC so I am clearing some points some of them are of-topic
no fastboot instead download mode
bootloaders are not locked so no s-on no s-off in Samsung devices
use Odin multidownloader to flash firmware through PC
never use rom manager on this mobile, else a brick will be waiting for you
galaxy mini is easily root able
just flash an update.zip in recovery and you will be rooted
after root to change something in system
type mount -o remount,rw /system then do whatever you want to
stock rom cannot be backed up with the help of cwm

[Q] Where to copy superSU zipfile

Hi all,
I am trying to root an HTC One; I'm following the instruction at htconeroot.com.
For some reason, I am getting stuck at the stage at which I am supposed to install CWM SuperSU.
I have the Android app QuickSSHD installed on my phone.
Using scp on my Linux laptop (Linux Mint 16), I transfer the SuperSU zip file to the phone, copying it to /sdcard/.
If I browse the phone using ES FIle Manager app, I can verify the zip file is there, along with the various other subdirectories under /sdcard/
However, when I reboot and go to the bootloader, click on Install, and then go to /sdcard/, I see nothing. No zipfile, no subdirs. I am wondering whether /sdcard/ is in fact mounted; it would seem not.
I have tried copying the SuperSU zipfile to the root directory of the phone, but that isn't possible; I don't seem to have write permissions.
From the instructions:
Sign in through the setup process then copy the CWM-SuperSU-v1.30.zip file in HTCOneRoot folder to anywhere on your HTC One’s internal storage.

However, it isn't clear to me precisely how I am supposed to do this -- or where it should go.
Am I missing something here?

Are you S-Off and unlocked? If that's the case, I believe there's a flashable zip (and instructional videos) in the TWRP thread. If you're not S-Off and unlocked yet, you'll want to look here:
http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/
You'll use the "temp root" method, but I believe you'll still have to be on 4.3 for it to work.

Try moving the zip to /sdcard/0/ see if that helps at all...Let me know, thx lj
Moved to the HTC One Q&A (out of verizon) at the request of OP.
Thanks for moving this thread to the right place. Now, just to confirm: I have an HTC ONE which is unlocked; I bought it without a plan.

Thanks, I am just getting up to speed here with the terminology. I've unlocked the booloader, but the phone is still S-ON.I'll try to get that sorted out now.
OK, I have used revone to set S-OFF
I have also installed, or at least run temproot.Yes, I see the # prompt.
But when I reboot and go into TWRP, it still can't see anything in /sdcard
It also says that the device does not appear to rooted.
Any thoughts on how best to move forward here?
I would like to be able to:
Install Kitkat
Deinstall some HTC cruft
Thanks

[Q] Files access on pc after root

Hi,
First message and glad to be here.
So, here is my problem : I just unlocked my bootloader and rooted using RazriRoot2 (on JB). It went great. But when I connect my phones to my laptop on 7, I have no access to "protected files" such as those in data\data (I can access on my phone with Root Browser).
Morevoer when I copy/paste files from data\data to my SDCard, I can't access them neither with an USB card reader.
So, I tried Android commander, but it tells me it has no root access.
I read on the FAQ there are soft root and hard root, but I don't understand the difference.
Any help or ideas ??
Thanks for reading !

[Q] mounting HTC mini 2's partition

Hello,
I want to remove Vodafone's boot animation but don't want to root my device. To do that, I must either edit /system/customize/CID/VODAP**.xml or push proper VF_bootanimation.zip into /system/customize/resource. I am not able to do it neither from adb nor from adb shell - there is read-only warning or "permission denied".
Is there a way I can access this XML file, like:
a) registering on HTCDev as a developer
b) mount phone internal memory (/dev/block/mmcblk0p43) to a PC as a mounted drive while phone is switched off and then change its content (is this called 'fastboot'?)

You will have to flash a custom kernel on your phone that removes the write protection. So only unlocking the bootloader and flashing the kernel is sufficient. If you haven't unlocked you bootloader yet, backup all the data from the internal memory because it gets wiped
Thanks for answers everybody. I am little bit afraid of flashing foreign ROM because it replaces phone's existing ROM and warranty might be void. What I want to do is to keep the existing ROM, and alter one XML file in the customize folder.
I would like to rather have a scenario of mounting the phone memory as 'external removable drive' to some other system. For example, couple of years ago I played around with my home router - I was able to mount my home router's memory to PC running Linux and change some tweaks in the resulting /mount directory. Can I do something similar with mini 2? What is fastboot tool from ADB suite?
Maybe there is another, easier way for eradicating ad bootanimation? Currently I see 3 options: change CID so VODAP102.xml is not triggered; post fixed VF_bootanimation.zip; or change VODAR102.xml.
I am a programmer, however I never worked with writing apps for Android. Is there a way HTCDev-enabled developer can access /customize folder? Like remounting /mmcblk0p43 with RW permission etc.
Thanks in advance and sorry for 'noobism'

I'm not talking about flash a rom, but only just a kernel. Flash the Liberty Sense kernel and then got can customise the boot animation

If you make a backup of your rom via a custom recovery, then yes. And unfortunately unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom kernel will void the warranty

Root to recover wifi passwords

Hello:
I've had my Moto X4 in service for over 4 years now...long past due for an upgrade. I've finally gone and done it, and have transferred my active service to my new phone.
I was using Google's backup service, which supposedly will sync wifi passwords over, but it did not work (not surprised). My research indicates I need to root my phone to gain access to /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf (a file I'm familiar with on linux).
So, now that I'm not using this phone anymore, all I am trying to do is get the last vestiges of data off of it before it gets wiped and possibly pressed into "retirement service" (eg, wifi smart device interface, child's play phone, etc).
I found many guides to rooting the X4, but they all say you will loose all your data first...That is counter-productive in this case, as the only reason I am rooting is to get a good backup.
Is there a solution to my issue (currently non-rooted, need to retrieve my very long list of saved wifi passwords accumulated over 4 years as an IT tech at hundreds of businesses.....)?
Thanks!
--Jim
If you go to your saved networks, you can click on any Wifi/SSID name and then press the "Share" button (usually with a QR Code icon). Next, take a screenshot of this code. By using a simple QR Code scanner to scan these QR Codes, the details of the codes will be converted to text. From there, you can clearly see the SSID and password of the network.
You can either painstakingly extract these details (for say, if you need them on a PC etc.), or click on the QR Code icon next to the add network button (recommended), and then scan these images on your other phone, adding them to its list of saved networks.
Note: This feature isn't in every phone, and I believe it's only in android 9/10+ (cannot confirm though)
Yep, not available on this phone (moto X4), unfortunately. I've been missing this repeatedly
This is Android version 9, Google Fi version. Is there somewhere I need to go to turn this on?
I think it comes as a built-in feature. It's included in AOSP android 10+ (confirmed), but some manufacturers, cough cough oneplus cough cough, choose not to add it.
Unfortunately, all other methods of recovery (including apps) seem to require root.
You could try to use the adb pull command to extract the file your looking for from your phone and paste in onto your pc, but I don't have enough knowledge regarding it to guide you on that. It doesn't require root though.
Before you try the adb pull option (as its a bit lengthy and could be difficult for some), try to root your phone using KingoRoot (not to be confused with KingRoot). Try its one-click root app first. It may fail multiple times, but after a couple of tries it should work. If it does work, it won't wipe your data, which is why I'm recommending it.
Unfortunately, Kingoroot apk fails at 90% each time, with error code 0x11DD99. It recommends me try the pc app, which it appears all downloads for it are down/broke, so I haven't been able to get it.
Any more suggestions?
adb pull?
you'll need to look up how it works and its syntax, but it should be able to copy files from your phone onto your pc.
you can also copy files from your pc onto your phone using adb push
i cant really guide you on this as ive only done it once, and that was a really long time ago

Otherwise, he could've used the twrp file manager to get the data, even without root.
Apparently it can be done via DroidKit, don't know if that's free though..
