Quick question. If you leave your phone plugged in and its fully charged and your using it, is the phone just leeching off the charger for power or is the charger pushing out small bursts of power to the battery. The context of my question is i'm starting to use webtop alot and I leave my phone on all day plugged in. Is continuing this behavior going to impact my battery or does the phone just leech directly off the charger without using the battery?
It's fine to leave it plugged in all the time. The phone has a "smart circuit" that use what is called trickle charge to just continually top off the battery as it drops below full charge. The phone is designed such that it doesn't receive power directly from the charger or USB cable, unless the +5v DC current is on pin 1 like a factory flash cable.
Bottom line is there is no damage or shortening of the life of the battery to leave it charging all the time while in the dock or any other means and Li Ion batteries no not have memory problems.
On a related note, is there any damage in using low-power chargers?
I have an external solar-powered battery charger that also supports USB-out, and I find that it doesn't put out enough power to really charge the battery, but it can keep the battery at its current charge level (whenever it is plugged in) for the equivalent of one charge (so the phone could theoretically last 2ish days).
I'm wondering whether this is constantly charging/discharging the battery (bad thing), or just providing enough power to run the phone (good thing).
I've also seen a similar behavior when charging over USB. If I'm using the phone a lot, sometimes a usb port doesn't supply enough juice to charge the phone.
I also saw this in some (rarer) cases with my OG Droid, but I didn't pay it much mind because I had 3 batteries for that thing and you could pick them up for a few dollars off of Amazon.com.

To my knowledge, there is no reason a low power charger should present any problem, but charging from the USB on a PC is limited to 350mA and will definitely not push enough current to charge the phone while it is under heavy use like Mobile Hotspot tethering with LTE or even 3g.
The standard wall charger is 850mA and even that can sometimes only keep up or charge very slowly under heavy load.
USB spec is [email protected] not 350mA. But yes, a dedicated charger probably will charge faster. Some may go as high as 1A output...

I am using the Anymode wireless battery charger for the last few days and I love it, especially because it trickle charges the battery once its near full on my Note 2 (N7102 on SVA ROM v2.3), thereby increasing (hopefully) the battery life. I got this charger on my last visit to Korea and it has made charging a lot easier and fun.
I also use the wireless battery indicator available from the play store. However, during charging android does not update the battery charge, apparently because, it (android 4.1.2) does not recognize that the battery is being charged wirelessly. If, however, I reboot my phone, it get the correct charge updated by android. While, not on charging mode, the battery drain seems to be monitored well.
I am looking for an app/mod/tasker-profile which will force android to check the battery status, say every min, while its being charged wirelessly and simultaneously update the info. Is there something existing already which I can use?

The reason I think, that the phone doesn't recognise that the phone/battery is charging, is that the battery itself is being charged by the wireless battery charger as seen here http://img.danawa.com/images/descFiles/3/346/2345685_1_1365195972.jpg, It seems that the battery itself houses the wireless charging component and thus received the charge directly, skipping the phone. Hence why the phone doesn't recognise the battery being charged.
The normal scenario with say the Qi wireless chargers, is that there is a receiver component that connects with the Note 2's wireless charging contact pins, with which the phone uses to identify the charge before directing that charge to the battery, in which case the phone then recognises that its being charged and can monitor it.
As to what apps can provide constant battery charge status, sorry I don't know of any, Hopefully others have.

Yupp..N7102 (Galaxy Note 2 - dual sim (full active)) does not have wireless charging pins inside. hence I went for the Anymode solution. Waiting for details on apps/mods to force a battery charge check.
I've had my N6 for about two weeks now, and lately I've noticed it doesnt charge once I plug it in, I'll go to sleep and a few hours later its still at the same percentage, I check the battery stats page and it shows "Not Charging" I unplug it for a few seconds and the Charging icon sticks as like the phone thinks its still "charging". Another issue I've noticed just now today, it says itll take 4 hours to charge from 56%! Only way for me to fix these issues it is to restart the phone and itll work, mind you this issue only happens sometimes. Although I will say I plugged my LG G2 into the Turbo Charger, so IDK if that affects the charger in any way?
Does anyone else experience this? If this is something no one has I'm planning to swap the device out for another one.

This may seem obvious but try a different cable. I had a cable that, when plugged in, my phone would say is charging but doesn't actually charge.
I've had my nexus 6 for a couple weeks now and the first time this happened I was using a wireless charge so I thought I didn't have it placed on the mat right. But it happened again last night whilst plugged into an AC charger. The AC charger is an LG charger from a previous Nexus. When I look at the battery graph it just flat lines for the whole time it was plugged in.

My turbo charger is doing the same thing the OP said. We have 2 6's and it also happened to my wife's the other day too. I thought it might have initially been a cable too so I changed that out and it happened to the second charging cable last night as well.

I use the turbo charger also and just experienced this. I was at 25 % after playing injustice (which just murders this battery) and plugged in the USB and I looked back 5 minutes later at I was at 22 %. So I killed Injustice and waited about 5 minutes more and I was at 19%. I had to reboot to get charging and after 5 minutes of charging I was at 29% so it is weird stuff.
I've been noticing this as well, but my charger is an aftermarket charger by Tenergy (Amazon link), and I'm using an aftermarket cable. Missed my alarm this morning because the phone must have not actually been charging, even though the N6 always shows that it is charging. I haven't tested it thoroughly with the stock charger as I keep that next to my workstation, but it seems that others are having this issue even with the included charger. Frustrating, to say the least.
Same thing with my N6 on 5.1. I would say that 20% of the time i plug in it shows charging but doesn't charge, just maintains the battery at whatever percentage it was when i plugged it in.
I don't have to restart but rather just unplug and re plug in the charger, then monitor for a couple of minutes to make sure the battery is going up and if so it will charge normally.
I also have tried a few different chargers including the quick charger that came with the phone. same result.

I have the same issue while charging n6 with Motorola terboxharger ... But it takes 3 h while charging with any other chargers .....any updates !!!

Wow, same here.... only just started to notice it. Using turbo charger as well...however upon using a normal charger, it seems to always charge. it it something with the turbo charger?
Yea it seems to be turbo charger problem , but how come I bought it just one month ago !!
I started noticing the same issue recently. I'd say it started after upgrading to 5.1. I'm using the stock turbo charger. I found a workaround that, so far, fixes it for me (3 nights in a row at least).
After plugging in the phone, I notice the battery icon shows it is charging. If I actually go into the battery settings though, it says it is NOT charging. If I unplug the charging cable and plug it back in while still in the battery settings page (you know, with the usage graph), then it starts charging just fine up until I get a full charge. As long as I do this each time, I seem to get a full charge. Annoying, yes. But not as annoying as waking up to à phone that never charged.

For my N6 to charge, I need to push the TC USB cable a little downwards for my phone to charge. Sometimes, it doesn't even charge at all. I'm considering to RMA this, if I can do it here in Norway.
my nexus 6 has different behaviours, if I charge it when it is turned on sometimes it stops the charging and I need to disconnect and reconnect the cable and charging starts again, so i need to be careful because i can't be sure that my phone will charge completely if i leave it alone. if I charge it when it is turned off sometimes it starts to restart continuously showing battery in the screen again and again, without charging. hopefully this happens sometimes, i dont really like this bug, i spent so much money for buying it and i dont want to control if my phone is charging or not when I plugged it, i just want to put in charging and coming bac when it is flly charged.

I hope the first thing anybody does is check the charging port and make sure there's nothing in there. Take a strong, sharp toothpick and carefully dig anything out that shouldn't be there. Pocket fuzz etc...
I am having this same issue, my phone is brand new yesterday, running 5.0, I have these exact issues, seems to be only with the turbo charger because I use a slow charger for overnight next to my bed and the battery was full. But I can't seem to make the percentage actually go up with the turbo charger without restarting the phone first.
Any more info on this very annoying bug??

i have the same issue - my N6 is a couple of months old and it started on an overnight (not) charge. Now it's happening 1 in 2 charges so it's getting worse. I cleaned the connection, tried different cables, USB chargers and plugging into the laptop - no dice. It's going back to Google - annoying...
Hi everyone, so my issue I currently have with my Nexus 6 is as follows:
Device Details: Nexus 6, rooted, running CM13, Xposed Framework installed
Charging from USB: shows "charging slowly" message on lockscreen. Ampere shows an average of about 200mA, regardless of type of charger. Tried several QuickCharger adapters and a regular adapter, as well as several different cables to the same result. When connecting to a PC via USB, it shows the same charging power, however my laptop is not recognizing that the device has been plugged in.
Charging Wirelessly: charges normal as it always had, showing a average of about 500-700mA.
The issue occurred suddenly while I was out hiking and attempting to charge via a QuickCharge capable portable battery. The previous day it was charging as it always has.
All signs point to a damaged micro USB port on my Nexus 6, but wondering if there could be any other possible causes. I'm hesitant to try a factory reset to troubleshoot it as a software issue since I have no way of connecting it to my PC to re-root and re-flash CM if that doesn't fix the issue.
If it is the micro USB port as I think, any suggestions on how to remedy this? I'm used to using my device heavily everyday and charging it with a QuickCharger as needed, so this slow charging is a significant issue right now.

your phone charges at differing speeds at differing parts of its charging cycle. and on top of that, charging via usb instead of wall charger will carge your phone at a much slower rate. that said, we also have a "usb fastcharge" option included in many kernels/custom roms. but you also have to know that fastcharge doesnt work with every usb port that you can plug into. it only will work with certain usb ports.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. When I said "Charging via USB" I just mean through the phone's microUSB port. Regardless of whether it was plugged into a wall charger(with or without QuickCharge 2.0) or my laptop or a portable battery, or a QuickCharge car charger, I was getting the same charge rate and message showing "charging slowly", much slower than wireless charge rate which showed the normal "charging" message. The Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 using the provided Motorola Supercharger or my QuickCharge 2.0 capable portable battery has always worked great prior to this issue.

ok, because the included "fastcharge" is only for usb charging. but regular charging still depends on where in the charging cycle you were. for example, at 92 itll charge at a much slower rate than at 50. what battery percent where you at when you noticed?

Initially very low, under 15%. Was attempting to charge with a QC2.0 portable battery, but the device was draining quicker than it was charging. When I got home, I attempted the Motorola "Turbocharger" wall charger and got the same rate. So I put it on the wireless charger, and as it charged, I kept testing the wall charger every 20% or so, getting the same slow charge rate.
The bottom line is really that the Wireless Qi charging is functioning properly as it always has, but any "plugged-in" type charging is charging at an extremely slow rate, no matter what type of charger, no matter what % the battery is at.

odd! it could be a software issue or just a derp. have you tried rebooting? im one of the few that i know with a broken usb on my n6. and it charges slower. it used to charge at about 2400mV, now it charges at 800mV max. now that its completely broken, i cant charge it via a usb anymore, now i charge it wirelessly, which is at about 800mV max as well. anyways, try a reboot, or reflashing your software first, before doing anything extreme.

Yea I've tried rebooting like 20 times lol. Also tried doing a CM nightly software update. I'll see if reflashing will do the trick. Any suggestion on reflashing from the device? I've always used Nexus Root Toolkit and did it from my PC.
If that doesn't work, guess I'm stuck with wireless charging too. Thanks for your help!

you can flash cm via twrp recovery on your phone, without a computer. oh, and my work buddies are still in shock that my n6 wirelessly charges.. they both have iphone 6s
I replaced the battery in my XT1097 and now it will not start. When I plug in the charger it does show the battery percentage.
I tried the different methods of starting the phone, but nothing happens.
Any suggestions?
Always check voltage of cell before installing. I believe it may be very low and you'll need to open the phone back up and charge it manually with a 4.2v source. You'll need to get the voltage to over 3v. Also I heard plugging some phones into a laptop via USB will slow charge it and start it up. Best of luck.

In my case, the phone (XT1092) was not charging with a new battery nor with the old one: although it said it was charging, Ampere was saying the battery was "cold". It appears I must have damaged the flex ribbon that you have to remove while changing the battery. Although it seemed visually just fine, ordering a new one online for 5 dollars and replacing it did the trick for me: both batteries are now charging just fine. It could be worth giving it a try.
