Gear 3? wow. - Samsung Galaxy Gear

I found this. Don't know what to think
http://www.t3.com/news/samsung-to-launch-a-phone-enabled-gear-smartwatch

Wow is right! Gear 3 with its own SIM! I wonder if it's a stand alone?

That's actually pretty cool. Looking forward to more news about it.

I would hope via bluetooth headpiece or headphones, as the Gear 2 is going to pair with these to play music from its new standalone mp3 player. I would want one for sure, and already am highly excited to get my Gear 2, so a independent phone version would be a huge step up for things like cycling and jogging/walking. Battery life might be an issue of course, and everyone always wants things smaller, but the Gear 1 is a perfect size for me.

This would be great but the only problem would be battery life and usability with such a small screen. An idea for an accessory would be a screen that could pair with the device somehow. Basically reverse the roles. Watch is the main device with a Bluetooth screen that you can keep in your pocket or something. Just an idea...

Bluetooth + Armband Phone Case for Exercising Question

Anyone know of a good combination of bluetooth headset and armband phone case to use with the Cardiotrainer app on the HTC Incredible? The last bluetooth set I got moved around too much... my guess is I would need a bluetooth headset that was stereo and hooked together. Also with the armband... I just don't want it sliding around too much Any ideas?
I use the backbeat bluetooth headset. Work great for me, only issue is that there is no button to control the music. Still trying to find a good armband to work on the Incredible.
I have the motorola s9 that i used with my touchpro and really like them not sure on the armband yet

S9 are not sweat proof unfortunately, the buttons stop working, great set other wise.
I use a Jabra BT3030 with a pair of Sennheiser earbuds. It's nice and does the job without being a burden. You can find them for reasonable prices on ebay. Because the earbud cables are long the Jabra is usually runs under my shirt and into my pocket.
I had an iTech clip radio for the same purpose and it was the worst piece of tech garbage I've even owned.
So has anyone found a good armband yet for the Dinc? I figure someone must have found a decent one by now
Has anyone had an issue with the music skipping when walking or running? I've tried the Backbeat and S9 on two incredibles. Both have done this. Its fine when just laying around, but the smallest motion and it skips.

I second this. I used the same **Belkin Iphone/Ipod** armband on my old HTC Tilt. And I have no idea why you want to listen to music on a bluetooth headset. There is no way the degraded sound quality and increased battery consumption is worth it just to not have wires. Also , I don't have an issue with headphone cables getting in the way. And if you want to be able to answer the phone, dont worry about it. Plug in the headphones and make a call. try it. the microphone on the phone picks up your voice just fine.

Supposedly the issue is caused by the headset jack thinking control signals are being sent to it by your headset. This is why people have reported better performance with higher quality headphones that have gold contacts, less interference. A cheaper solution is to download the Headset Blocker widget from the marketplace which prevents the supposed signals from having any effect on your music app. Do note that if you have a controller on your headset the widget will block all of its controls too.

The armband case that you seek is this one!
I bought the TuneBelt from Amazon for like $20 before the holidays. It keeps my phone safe, sweat free, and you can even buy a little extender belt if you plan on running with heavier clothes on like a sweatshirt. Great buy!

RTFM ... hold the volume up or volume down to change tracks w/ the backbeat headset.
I have experienced the music skip issue as well so I'll have to give the headset blocker app a try.

Note 2-compatible earphones with controls

I just received my note 2 a couple of days ago. Loving it! - with a couple of small caveats:
1) Why must the stock email client suck so much? With such a great and big phone one of the main advantages for me would be to be able to email efficiently. But, first thing, you can't change the background color from black. Second, no search functionality. Third, the interface isn't beautiful. All of it: Just bad. (I come from iOS so I'm used to a very well-functioning email app). Some of the other email clients at google play seem marginally better, but none are perfect. Hope for updates and an imroved client from Samsung.
2) Then to my actual question in this thread. The earbuds/earphones that came with the phone sound great. But, they are in-ear. I know that most people prefer in-ear phones, but for me, not so much. It makes me feel shut off from the world, and if I'm listening to music on my bike for example I'm afraid I won't hear important sounds from the traffic, stuff like that. So I'd like to find some alternative earphones that are not in-ear. I tried the apple earphones from my old iPhone, and they work fine for listening to music and talking, but I can't control volume or move between songs and radio stations etc with them.
So I wonder: anybody know of earphones that work with the galaxy note 2 that are not in-ear, where the controls work and that have good sound?
headphone controls
For headphone controls, i am not sure because of the diversity of android phones that you ll find a compatible model which is a shame,
you can use this free software workaround solution : JAYS Headset Control in the playstore.
Regarding in-ear headphones and motorbiking: I did just that not too long ago and broke a time record unknowingly between two cities. It's cool what shutting off the outside world can do for your courage and concentration

On topic, picking one of these bad boys up tomorrow. Hope the bundled earphones are decent enough to continue my stupidity on and off the road
Sony's Smart headset MH-1c has both volume controls as well as a call recieve button which works with Samsung Galaxy SIII and Note II.
While they are technically in ear, I would recommend using the LG Tone+ Bluetooth Headset - the model number is HBS-730. It has APT-X codec, which is for the most part indistinguishable from wired headphones, plus they have insane 12+ hour life. To get around being aware of sound around you like at work, I just wear one earbud in and the other one magnetically clips to the headset, which is super handy. I typically use them 10-14 hours a day and am a headset fanatic. They have volume control, play/pause, and track forward and back. Plus they have good sound quality for the money even though they are bluetooth.

Hi, I had the same problem and eventually have taken matters into my own hands by making my own using the 3 button remote bundled with the phone and some Klipsch S4i's I had left over from the iPhone days. The results were so good I have bought some more S4's to customise and have listed them on eBay for sale. Finally a solution to this problem. When are the manufacturers going to realise there are millions of Samsung devices out there and start making some decent earphones for us!!

Another alternative is try out the app Around Sound from the play store. It monitors external noise from the microphone and pauses your music to play that sounds to you.
I posted this in another thread, but the best retail option might be the new Samsung headphones that start coming out with the S4 - the HS330. Supposed to be better than the S3/Note 2 headphones and obviously volume and pause/answer buttons work.

What earbuds/headphones fully function with Note 2?

I know I will get Newb flamed for this, but I searched for hours as per video and didn't find an answer that really helped. I am getting ready to drop my Iphone 4 and pick up the new Note 2 through ATT but I know that it does not come with headphones. I researched pretty much every headphone/earbud thread on here and found a few ideas, but when I went to the manufactures websites, some claimed that their earbuds were not fully functional with the Note 2. So my question is, what earbuds/headphones are fully functional with the Note 2? I mean they Have volume control, answer calls, FF, RW, Pause, and skip. Any help is appreciated so I can get my earbuds the same day as the phone.
Thanks and be kind.

You can use any one-button headset with "Headset Button Controller". My choice - Philips SHE 8005/00.
I would guess the Galaxy S3 stock headset would work just fine with it.
3 days of looking up different headphones and i am finding out some of the websites flat out suck as far as help goes. I am just wanting something that I guess would be considered plug and play with no need to download an app. I like the phillips SHE8005 recommendation, but you have to get the app to make them fully functional and then I read not all features work with the Note 2. I just want to get some feedback from someone who is actually using a fully functional head-set. I am planning on getting the phone in the next few days and want to have the headset when I get it. I keep seeing JBuds on Amazon, but I dont know if they will work.
Thanks again for the input.
I use a pair of Bluetooth headphones. Motorola S305, about $30 on amazon. They last a full day on a charge, going about three years now. They have the volume, skip, play/pause controls. And, never any cords to get tangled.

I have since up graded from my HTC urbeats to these Beats by Dre Wireless. The can be run wireless or with a wire. Sound quality is good from both music and phone conversation. All buttons function. 10 hr play time 100 hr stand by. Rechargeable and im not sure but I think if the battery dies you still can run them with a cable dont quote me on that but the rest is a sure bet.

I have heard that as well, I have also heard the opposite. I know that there are several tiers of Beats that range from
Ibuds/urbuds thay are smart phone compatible( many styles and designs)
Solo
Mixr
Studio
Executive
Pro
And probably many more I cannot think of.
I have the wireless ones and I can say for sure that they are not the best sounding but they do offer a few perks that the others do not such as all the control functions on the head phones so you never have to retrieve you phone/music player from your pocket or bag. They are rechargeable and the savings in good quality batteries will pay for them rather quickly.
They are not the best but are good, and lets be honest, we cant afford the best.... lol

How are the headphones you might be willing to part with? I am not even sure what brand or model earbuds the note 2 comes with from other providers. I seem to be leaning towards a blue tooth set lately. The LG ones sound promising.

Looking for a Stereo BT headset for Workout and Movies

I am looking for some help. Now that I have a tablet and I am trying to find a good BT stereo headset for it. I am going to mostly use the headset for listening to my tablet for movies and doing items on my tablet where I do not want to bug my wife and others.
I am also going to want to use it with my phone when I am working out or working on items where a tablet is just too big to have around. I went to Best Buy and they stated to use the Jaybird ones. They are going to take a large chunk out of my wallet. I am trying to find what else is out there and would have good sound quality and bass for movies but can take getting all sweating in a work out.
Thank you for any help or tips on this. Just kind of stuck right now.
You can also look at getting a receiver that has a headphone jack and use the headphone of choice.

Motorola has some water resistant ones but they are trash. Go with the jaybirds. I have several friends with them and they work great, and don't short out.
I have a Sony mw600 receiver that works pretty well. And with a standard 3.5 mm jack you can use any headset you want.
It's not as "clean" as a pure bt headset, but it's a lot more flexible. It has fm radio as well, a nice addition.
The only downside I found is the touch/pressure/whatever sensitive volume slider is a bit fiddly.
There is supposedly a newer version out, mw600s, but no idea about the changes and/or improvements.

I've used the Motorola S9 and now the S10 bluetooth stereo headsets. The S9 I sent back at least 4 times because sweat gets into the buttons and when you press up or down on them it sticks the contact and acts as if you are holding it down. I finally got out of the warranty period and found that if I put them on the airconditioner return (on the floor) for a few days they work fine. I have to say that the S10 has not had that problem. In both cases, the "in ear" nature of the S9 and S10 do not fit me well. Of course fit is highly subjective so take it for what it's worth.
The S9 had better sound to me than the S10 and was easier to control (when there wasn't sweat behind the buttons). On the S10 I have to really press the buttons hard to activate them. The pads on the end of each side on the S10 came off in the first week. They were stuck on with what is essentially double sided tape. I tried to glue one back on with super glue which just hardened the semi-soft pad into a wrinkled mess. I used a dremel with an abrasive buffer tip to smooth it down.
Finally, the soft ear tips on the S10 come off almost every time I take the headset off. Of course the headset is useless if you loose the tips...well, it works, but is pretty uncomfortable in your ears. The one good experience was that I called Motorola and they sent me a bag of the tips for free. So now I have (I think) 6 pairs, two each of each size. No hassle from customer service. I was ready to pay something, but they just sent them for free.
I'm in the market for some new stereo headphones for the gym. They must be bluetooth, take calls, and have controls on them. The problem is that it's an expensive game of hit or miss on fit and function although I can return them to BestBuy if needed.
It might seem that I'm down on the S9 and S10. In general, I like the way they fit around my neck, I just wish they would nail it instead of staying at about 80%.
Just my 2 cents.
I have a Sennheiser pxc 310, it's a very good device, but the big problem with bluetooth, movie and nexus 7, is the latency between sound and pictures.
I have the galaxy note 2 and there is no such problem, maybe the apt-x codec solve the problem.
Give the LG HBS-700 a shot. I use them for everything from work, to tv, to working out at the gym.
They sound decent and have a decent battery life.
My only gripe with them is that they slip a little when on the bench.

Gear speakerphone quality

Hello. Yesterday I have purchased a new black galaxy gear and after pairing with my note 3 and making all the necessary settings, I realized that when I raise the volume level up to the maximum (+6), I hear distortion from my calling mate.
I am referring to the sound during a phone conversation (coming from the gear's bracelet speakerphone) that seems to be quite low (only in a quite environment I can easily hear the other party) and If I raise the sound level -in my gear- during a call to the maximum , the voice of the other party is a little bit muffled.
Should I expect top notch quality from the speaker (like let's say note 3) or I shall compensate with what I get (small earpiece, poor volume level).
I appreciate any reports on that matter, to see if my device should be replaced...
Thank you in advance.

It was never built to have a GREAT speakerphone quality, It was meant mostly for the times you have your hands full, or the phone is somewhere else. It's a supplement to the phone's phone capability, not a replacement!

Yes I understand that, but I would like from other gear's owners to clarify if maximizing the sound level during a call produce a little cracking noise (especially if the other party has strong voice) at times or my gear has bad speaker and needs to be replaced.
Thank you!
Mine does the same thing when I raise it to 6. But I really don't use the watch in public because the sound quality doesn't work that well in well populated areas.
But I'll give you my opinion on what Samsung was trying to do with calling ability of the watch.
1. Chores around the house, you don't have to lug your phone around the house, leave it in a neutral room, and when you cooking, cleaning etc
2. In the office, let's say you in a meeting put your watch and phone on vibrate and you can just look at your wrist to see who is calling or if the text message is important.
3. Jobs that don't allow cell phones to be out. We'll now your phone is on your wrist, so unless your job bans wrist watches then you are good.
If you are trying to look cool in public then I'm gonna burst your bubble, you don't look cool using it with your wrist turned the other way all the way up to your ear, and then removing it and talking into it. You just look like a moron doing it.
So in conclusion the watch is good to have when you are busy or have both hands tied up when you are frying chicken.

On mine no BUT this does not mean your situation is not real. One must take into account several matters when debating this subject. The first being ones carrier. Vodafone here is useless for the quality of their call reception. Other carriers differ also.
Expectations of the owner. I find the speaker in the bracelet acceptable considering what it is. This will be personal though. Hi-Fi it is not nor is it expected to be. Have you the chance of trying another gear to see if you have a problem device, that can also happen in all devices of this nature. I hope you manage to resolve this situation.
Rgeards.
Guys, thank you both for your answers.
So, any other owners that upon raising their gear's sound level to (+5, +6) distorts the other party's sound?
Sadly, I don't have access to an other gear (friend, demo unit in a mall etc) to test out his watch, so I heavily rely on your feedback to decide upon dealing with the fuss regarding exchanging or not.
5 is where I leave mine. 6 (and notice the controls turn RED for some reason haha) can introduce a little distortion.
I use the speakerphone in the following places - car, office, home (on the couch or walking around) and it is perfect. Any type of loud environment makes it very hard to hear and I'll just use my phone.

Very good point. Not too long ago, I am bike riding with my Note 3 in my back pack.. A call comes in from my son. I answer it on the Gear, and I have hearing problems and I minus my hearing aids. However, I was able to answer the call, have a short 2 to 3 min conversation. Make call pretty well. Sure, I didn't expect the quality of sound from my Note 3, but even with my hard of hearing, I was able to hear, they heard me, calls were recieved and made, without me stopping, digging down and bring my phone out of the back pack..
The Gear is a suppliment. However, if the OP is a little skeptical, I think he should return it for another one. That doesn't cost anything but a little time and gas money, and will give the OP peice of mind that his Gear is normal..
I returned one, and I later found out that the problem was USER ERROR, but I have piece of mind.

2. does not work so well. when someone calls me, it takes even up to 8 seconds before the calling number is changed to a currently assigned name in my contacts. this is unacceptable! i want to glance at the watch and decide what next, i don't want to wait for such a long time before i can see the name.. this is clearly because contacts are not stored on device at all, everytime you request contact list, it's being streamed to you. terrible solution samsung.
3. this will not work in all places. if using phone is forbidden it does not mean you can use/make calls from tablet or smartwatch..
So guys, what your opinion?
Could this gadget be used in speaker mode in the car and in quite places without having to put it in your ear?
Thank you.

Haha, no potatoes here...
Today I am planning to return and ask for a replacement. +5, +6 is practically unacceptable (too much distortion). Comparing gear's and note 3's speakerphone mode is like comparing apple and orange, a totally different experience.
Should it be like this...?
Considering the gear has a smaller speaker not optimized for music, therfore it isn't that loud. Sometimes I can't almost hear the people I talk on the phone too at work. I will put my hand over my ear. Like if I was using an invisible phone love the gear!

Yeah, I love it too. Till now, I have changed 5 gears (different colours) to find the one that suits me best. Black is my favourite one finally...
But the speaker is for sure not loud and clear enough. My note 3 has better speakerphone quality during calls...
