From CM to GE? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
A while back I made the jump to CM using the CM installer. Everything is working fine but I want to give the Google Edition a shot.
I'm having problems getting S-off done. Tried a couple different methods. Anyone else made the jump?
Thanks

Install a sense based rom, ARHD is a good choice, try the 41 series, and not the 51 series.
Then S-OFF. Once you are on google edition, do NOT S-ON or lock your bootloader

It seems that the ARHD links are dead at the moment. Any other suggestions?

Does anyone else know any other ROMs other than ARHD (Links dead). That they know can have soff done to them?
Thanks

the roms themselves dont contain S-OFF or on. its just that if you want to a complete update you'll have to have S-OFF to do it. you can flash ARHD with or without S-OFF but since ARHD and all the other latest roms mostly likely have 4.4.2 you'll want the latest firmware to go along with it since it tends to play better with each other. to update your firmware your going to have to be S-OFF this is the reason why most roms like ARHD and viper say its a good idea to be S-OFF

So I tried using both Firewater and Rumrunner with no luck. Both just time out during the pouring process or chugging.

I just did a firewater S-OFF on Telus 4.4 Kitkat. Worked straight forward. No issues.
Maybe try to go back to stock rom and try again. Rumrunner did not work on 4.4/1.56 hboot for me.

Just doing the Nandroid backup now. I'll get back to you.

So the Nandroid worked well. Now I'm trying to get the OTA update to 4.4. Unfortunately it just brings me to TWRP when I try. Any ideas?
Tried using firewater however and got stuck with this;

You need stock recovery to install an OTA. Once you have updated hboot without S-Off, you can't downgrade it, which will reduce the S-Off options you have. It's worth exhausting the options on the lower hboot before upgrading it.
You will need a ROM that is close to stock, ARHD 31 has been known to work. Also, before running the commands that run on the phone (usually after adb shell) to S-Off, type
su
On a rooted ROM, like ARHD, it will give you superuser permissions. The S-Off programs have a temproot, but the exploit has been closed, so elevating first will help it along.
You can't be alone in this and the S-Off threads have a lot of info in them.

So just in case anyone was following this, turns out I have one of those rare Htc Ones that cannot soff. Spoke to a couple of those guys over on the Rumrunner irc chat.

Have you tried flashing the RUU your device came with? Then OTA update to latest
now i'm on custom rom, S-OFF, Unlocked, Rooted and hboot downgraded (1.44) so at this point i can flash the ruu.exe for my htc one (x.401.x.x) but still i don't know if i'll manage to get it back to the Cosmote rom (had some cool programs installed on it)..

if you want to go back to stock and you have s-off and 1.44 hboot then the only thing you need to do is to download and run the 1.28.401.7 ruu.exe from htc1guru.com
it will wipe your phone and restore to stock rom and stock recovery. you will still be s-off. Just don't forget that if you want to remove the tempered flag, you should do it before the ruu

[Q] Can't fix my phone

First of all, my predicament continues from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2725647
Previous situation: (Skip if you're not interested in what got me into this)
I originally intended to return to 100% stock and send it back to HTC to get my purple camera fixed, but after 3 days of trying, I messed up.
Since it took up so much of my time and I was frustrated, I decided to send it back regardless of warranty. I send it to my carrier after wiping everything. HTC demanded about 450USD for a 730USD phone, my carrier suggested sending it to a workshop since they'd have a much more reasonable price. The workshop demanded 150USD(about half for the software and half for the camera replacement). I didn't care whether my phone came back in stock or not, so I told them to go ahead and fix the camera ONLY. But they strongly suggested that I fix my software first, so I took it back. Now I'm stuck exactly where I left it.

Current situation:
S-ON with hboot 1.44. I can't S-OFF with revone since it only works with 4.2.2 ROMs.
I tried using revone to s-off again by installing a Guru_Reset_M7_2.24.709.1 ROM, but then I got a "revone failed (error code = -6)" during the process. Also couldn't install an RUU, always got a "ERROR[140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR".
What I need:
S-OFF and upgrade to latest hboot.
All I can do now is restore my nandroid backup(ARHD 63.0) during the day when I need my phone, and try fixing it whenever I have time.
I have tried everything I can think of, and I'm completely stuck right now. PLEASE HELP.
Please help

I think it's because I downgraded my hboot from 1.56 to 1.44 while running a ARHD 62.0 ROM?
Will this method still work? Waiting for download to finish...

okay, just read the other thread, and now i see the problem.... but i don't know if revone will work or not with this combination of hboot + firmware + ROM.
give it a try, otherwise also try both rumrunner and firewater.

Firewater doesn't work too(via HTC One Toolkit). When I click "Start Firewater", the pop out cmd window(which informs you the of the risks)
won't let me insert "Yes", it doesn't respond to any input.

[Q] Just need stock recovery. No root. No ROM. S-ON

I am computer stupid. More so with phones. This is my brothers old phone. It has TWRP installed. Not rooted. No custom ROM.
All I want to do is get back the stock recovery so I can get this annoying "System update available" message to stop popping up all the time. The update is for software version 6.07.1540.1. Looks like it would upgrade to 4.4.3 as well.

no to adb. yes to fastboot. I can make the bootloader say "fastboot usb". I have the fastboot stuff on my windows 8 laptop.
I am using windows 8 on this laptop but have his windows 7 laptop that he used which should still have all the tools needed to put TWRP on there.

Ok well it's better to use Windows 7, Windows 8 drivers can be problematic and may confuse things.
Do you know if your brother has used ota updates since unlocking the bootloader? The reason I ask is that unlocking the bootloader wipes some important pre-loaded apps from the device. And will cause the update to fail and soft-brick the phone.
Your brother may have known this so it's possible he restored the complete stock Rom previously but it's better to know before hand.
Can you connect fastbootusb then in the fastboot command line type
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Then post the output here. Please Edit out the imei and Serial no from the information before posting.

Ok good thanks. So are you against using a custom Rom? It may be the easiest way to update the phone at this point and will solve the problem of the annoying update notification.
Or would you prefer to keep it stock?

I would like to keep it stock because I plan on selling it on eBay soon. Maybe. Stock phones bring in more cash than custom ROM phones.
Though if it is too difficult to bring to stock, I will ROM it and just keep it. As I understand it, if it's a good ROM it can help keep it up to par with current phones a little longer than a stock ROM would.
How hard will it be to get the stock recovery. Your questions make it seem like it is going to be quite an undertaking.
If that is the case, then yes I will custom ROM it.
Though I would like to know what the process would be for the stock recovery. Just to see if it would be something I could do. It does not have to be a detailed explanation. Just something to get a better idea of.

That's why all the questions, I'm just trying to understand exactly what you expect the end result to be since the procedures are quite different depending on what you want to end up with.
To be honest getting a stock recovery is easy very easy. But restoring the stock pre-load data is not. You need a complete stock Rom including the pre-loaded apps or the OTA update will soft-brick your phone. Normally not difficult to recover from but in some cases has caused irreversible effects.
Returning to stock for sale or Warranty is whole different ball game. For that you first need to make the device s-off.
Currently it is s-on so you won't be able to set the bootloader back to ****LOCKED**** and you won't be able to remove the ****TAMPERED**** flag on the bootloader screen. There for the buyer or repair center would know that the phone was tampered with at some point.
You can use a reset zip to restore the stock software but the only one I can find for your device is older than your current firmware and again will cause problems when installing ota updates.
Once again because the phone is s-on you cannot downgrade the firmware only HTC signed firmware updates are possible with s-on.
This I'd why I suggested a custom Rom. You can simply flash a custom 4.4.3 Rom and that's that. The ota update notification will be gone and the phone will be running the latest software.
Custom roms generally are better in performance than Stock roms and yes you can normally get custom roms for newer software releases than were ment for the device. Although official support has not ended for the HTC One so there are still updates to come.
If you do want to return to stock to sell the phone your first priority is achieving s-off. Then take a look at this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082.
The procedure for flashing a recovery weather it is stock or custom is the same and very simple. Download your chosen recovery. (which will be a .img file) put the .img file in your fastboot folder on your pc.
Now connect fastbootusb in the bootloader and in the command line type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "nameofrecovery".img
fastboot erase cache
Obviously changeing "nameofrecovery".img for the actual name of the recovery file.
Or last and probably best option would be to achieve s-off. Then you can do pretty much whatever you want to it.

[SOLVED] S-off with hboot 1.57

I have tried to use both rumrunner and firewater to s-off my htc one m7. At first, rumrunner complained of my kernel, so I installed carbon (based off of android 4.3) and elementalX. This combination causes rumrunner to tell me to wait and pray, and firewater exits in the middle.
I think that the firewater problem is due to the adb shell exiting when the phone reboots: it's unable to maintain the connection, and continue to run firewater when my phone is rebooting.
I have no idea why rumrunner isn't working.
Any help would be appreciated.

With firewater are you using a USB 2.0 connection?
Do you have a good internet connection with the phone & PC?
Have you tried a different port? Cable? PC?

I am using a USB 2.0 connection
I have a good internet connection with the PC, and I assume my phone can access my wifi.
I have tried different cables and ports, but not computers. It seems like this isn't my problem, but I'll give it a try just to be safe.

I'm going to assume that ADB is up to date. Some have reported that ARHD 81.0 is a good candidate because it is close to stock. So, you might give it a try. If you read thru the firewater thread you may get some ideas on what combinations to try. If you get the "Whelp this sucks..." message then firewater will not work and you next option is sunshine with it's $25 fee.

Before I try ARHD (my internet is slow and I'm not looking forward to the download), what do you mean by the "Whelp this sucks..." message? I have never gotten an explicit error message from firewater; rather it just exits when the phone first reboots without any effect.

You should keep trying until you get that message. You say your internet is slow, could it be the cause of the communication error in that firewater is not waiting long enough to get a reply via the internet?

I have tried several times to run firewater, and when it does fail, it doesn't give the impression that it almost succeeded; adb shell exits when the phone reboots. That doesn't seem like it would change randomly, unlike an actual error. Also, my internet isn't so slow that I have connectivity issues, usually. I will try again, but mostly right now I'm just waiting for this ROM to download.
Thanks for trying to help, by the way!
While trying to install Android Revolution, the installer tells me "set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed" just after it tries to set permissions. Then, when I try to boot, I get stuck in a boot loop, where my phone enters recovery instead of booting the system. I am using twrp recovery, by the way. On the ARHD page, there is something mentioned about a custom firmware, but I don't know how to find out which firmware would be the correct one.
I'm assuming the reason I can't install ARHD is because I don't have s-off. But that is what I am trying to get by installing it, so there is no point. Can I install ARHD without s-off? If so, what do I need to do differently?

Do you think my problems installing ARHD stem from not having s-off? It is stated somewhere that it is possible to install it with s-on, but I don't know what else I would have to do to get that to work.

You have the developers edition CID
theirs no reason why ARHD shouldn't work
try an older version like arhd 53 or 62
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=9984
I managed to install Android Revolution 53 after installing twrp 2.6.33 (2.8.0.2 gave me that error about permissions I had earlier). However, this didn't appear to get me any closer to getting s-off. The exact same error happens with rumrunner as happened when I had carbon installed.

No Elemental x is not bulletproof kernel no matter how you install it. Both kernels come from the same Dev, why would he make 2 kernels if you could get the same thing from just one.
Bulletproof kernel has proven to be far more successful with firewater than Elemental x. It's worth a try :good:

help IMEI baseband unkown no network with hboot 1.54 S-ON

hi all, I have htc one m7 international CID : GOOGl001, and have unkown IMEI baseband also no network with hboot 1.54 s-on working 5.02 lollipop custom rom , rooted
I tried to s-off with rumrunner, but it tells me error and try to change the rom
i tried Android revolution and another rom but did not work,
so IF there is a way or custom rom that work with rumrunner please tell me, or if there a way to get the IME and baseband while S-on while be great waiting for the help
Can you please post the output of
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Please remove your serial number and IMEI before posting :good:
Unknown IMEI and Baseband is normally a hardware related problem. In some cases flashing an ruu or firmware package can fix it. But failing that it's most likely hardware.
Thing is the GPE bootloader is a tricky one. As your s-on you will need to re-lock your bootloader to flash an ruu. But the GPE has a bug that prevents unlocking again.
So it would be best to get s-off first if possible. After checking the getvar we can assess your options :good:

It's unlikely rumrunner will work with your firmware. But you can try it with this stock rom if you like https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24407100847292669
Flash the stock rom with twrp then try s-off with rumrunner.
If it still doesn't work your only option will be Sunshine App to s-off but it cost $25 and I can't guarantee you'll be able to fix it with s-off. So I'll leave that decision with you.
Or you can relock the bootloader to flash an ruu with s-on. But again I can't guarantee it will solve the problem. And you won't be able to unlock your bootloader through normal means. Because of a bug with the GPE bootloader.

not yet I will download and try it when do it will tell you
i made full format, and format cashe ,and works fine and now when using rumruner, it worked further step than other rom but give me the following error:
hell, that damn cap is on REALLY tight.......
unfortunately this isn't going to work out with your configuration. you have 2 options:
1.) flash an unsecure kernel that's compatible with your ROM and retry rumrunner (preferred and most reliable method).
2.) flash a different rom.
NOTE: No amount of messing around with su binaries and apk's is going to fix this issue for you!!!.
Better luck next time!!!!bye

Yeah probably to do with your firmware, HTC started patching firmware against rumrunner after jellybean.
Also just to confirm, you are able to Relock and Unlock the bootloader? This is good the bug must have been fixed with the new hboot :good:
So keep the stock rom on your device. Relock your bootloader and flash this firmware with fastboot. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24340319927533616
Copy the firmware file into your fastboot folder. Connect fastboot usb in the bootloader then flash the firmware with the following commands.
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip 6.04.1700.13_FULL_firmware.zip < ---- First flash will fail with pre-update so repeat command.
fastboot flash zip 6.04.1700.13_FULL_firmware.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Wait for the bootloader and select recovery. The screen will go black and after some seconds show a red triangle with an exclamation mark.
Hold power and press volume up to reveal the stock recovery menu. Select Factory reset from the stock recovery. When it's complete reboot the device. :fingers-crossed:

You cannot use rumrunner because your firmware won't allow it to work. To get s-off you must use sunshine app.
Does your device still suffer unknown IMEI and baseband after you flashed the firmware? If so then your problem is hardware related. You could use sunshine to get s-off but you may be spending money for nothing. If the firmware didn't fix it then it's unlikely an ruu will. Is the device still under warranty?

Unless you know someone with an XTC clip.
