Hi everyone,
I've searched the forums through Google extensively trying to find out if anyone else is having the same problem that I am, but haven't been able to find any related threads.
I'm using the ATT Tilt with Dutty's WM6 ROM and the .17 radio -- I've noticed that when a text message arrives and my phone is in standby with the screen off, the backlight will turn on and then about 3-5 seconds later, the actual text message will show up on the screen or the call will show up...
I'm not sure if others are experiencing this and if anyone has a solution to it -- its not the end of the world if I have to live with it, was just hoping maybe someone else experienced the same thing and had found a solution...
Thank you very much!

I have this too....I don't really mind though. I see it light up on my desk, look down, and watch my email/message appear.
I'm on Dutty's v4 and .11
Same experience here.
As long as this isn't the case with telephone calls, I can live with it
Having a 5 second delay on answering a phone call could make you miss the call...
dont really se the problem tbh, the phne wakes up when it starts receiving the message and then notifies you when its arrived - the lag you observe must be simply he time it takes to download the message?
Happens to me every time. I see my phone light up, and know I'm getting a message. When I get a call it lights up and instantly shows who's calling.
I agree this isn't so much a problem. I see it as FAD (Functioning As Designed).
See what happens is the Tower Sends a signal to the Phone saying (Incoming Call/Message Heading your way). It Wakes Up checks its Registry for What you set your Ringtone as. Tower passes the Call and It Rings. You Hit the Green Phone and You are connected YAY!
Now Messages are a tad different. The Phone wakes up looks for what your Message Alert Tone is. Tower Passes the Message. The Phone saves it, makes it into a readable format (If you have Threaded SMS adds it to the proper thread) and Notifies you that all is ready.
Same here, I like it. I can pick up the phone before it makes sound and have the phone already in my hand when the msg is showing up.
no different than when my non-3g phones would start chattering with the pc speakers a few seconds before an incoming call or message.
same here
i see no problem in this

Yes I had a friend who went to the dark side and had a iPhone It was indeed LOUD. Never thought of suing Apple for it.

Well Think about that statement how many iPhone users are smart? Most are trend followers and don't know much about speakers probably got sold to them by some "winner" at Big Buy.
I have the same problem.
on mine too, but only for messaging.
Same problem for messaging and calls. I pretty think this glich is for all HTC phones. Seen this on HTC touch too.
I've had many different PDA phones over the last five years and used many different cooked ROMS (starting off with the original WM2003) and this has always been the normal behavior. Must be by design.
Hmm, I dunno if its about being by design as much as it has to do with the fact that from wakeup to showing the message it takes much longer on a complex PDA than it does on a simple phone with no complicated programs or settings in it.
IMHO it seems that because of all the bulk of software running on a PDA with an OS and all, it just isn't as efficient at doing simple small tasks as a regular non-PDA phone is....which I guess is the price we pay for carrying little computers in our pockets rather than a simple phone.

I would agree with that statement. My wife's razr lights up and rings instantaneously...but has the functionality of my big toe.
Alright Lets Put an End to this. this ISN'T a PROBLEM. Its how Phones Work If they are "asleep" or not in "Full Operation Mode" then it must "Wake" to fully operate the processes that are needed to do what it is asked. Start a Call, Receive a message, etc etc.
And just FYI, My Old V3 Razr would Turn on The Front screen a couple seconds before I received a message or a call.
Overall after using an iPhone 2G - 4G for the past 5 years. I feel this phone is a major leap in context with UI, and on-screen keyboard.
The only thing that seems to be bothering me is the Proximity Sensor, everytime Im on a call the proximity sensor fails to keep the light off and the call gets ended or another call gets placed.
Is this a HTC design error? Or a problem with the OS?
It's obviously a faulty device. Fortunately very few HD7 suffer from this issue (while so many iPhone 4 have it) so I strongly recommend you get your device swapped asap.
Are you sure? As I hold the phone diagonally across the cheek it seems to work fine. But when I lower it downwards towards my shoulder the light comes on.
It's your call, but seing you actually having problems while making a call then I'd swap it.The promixity sensor should be working not worse than how it was meant to.
I do have long hair which usually is over my ears, may be that can be an issue. I'm just trying to analyze the problem here since its a grey market peace and will be difficult to swap for a newer one.
That may be the cause , I can't say a definitive "diagnostic" to your problem. All that I know is that from almost all the cases I know with P.S. problems the majority did have a faulty one. I see you are from India , did you buy yours from eBay ?
Hello there!
I was travelling through China last year and bought the P10 VTR-AL00 while I was there. I checked so that all the bands were supported in my home country of Sweden and it was all good.
I've had the phone for nearly 10 months now and love it so far. I haven't had any issues apart from one thing - when I'm in a call my microphone just stops working for a few seconds at a time. It usually happens after like a minute and then every minute or so after that (though, this varies). It's just temporary (like 3-5 seconds) but the person on the other end always thinks I've disconnected and asks if I'm there. The weird part is that it's just my microphone - I can still hear them loud and clear.
I've looked around in the settings to see if there's some gesture thing or whatever but I'm at a loss. Has anyone else had this issue? Or is there some feature/bug that I should be aware of?
If I recall correctly it has been like this since the beginning but I hoped that an update would fix it. That doesn't seem to be the case!
I appreciate any help!

Might be:
-Bug of your firmware, what version do you have? Maybe Check for updates via firmwarefinder
-Is Wifi Calling enabled or disabled?

Hey, thanks for the reply!
I'm on version VTR-AL00C00B217 . I've updated it a few times over the months I've had the phone. No new updates at the moment.
I looked around for WiFi calling but couldn't find it anywhere. Tried to search for it in settings and tried looking in the advanced settings but to no avail. It seems my version doesn't offer that. I found this thread where someone posted a photo of the "More" section of the settings page. It looked like this, whereas mine looks similar to this.
I have no issue with mobile data or Wifi connectivity by the way.
It is a bit embarrassing to admit, but I've had this with another device. It turned out that I sometimes accidentally covered the microphone with one of my fingers

Haha, yeah that's a possibility! I'll have to try that!
I tested recording myself with the sound recorder whilst covering up the microphone. On playback and when I covered up my microphone I only had signal in the left earphone but when I let go the channel switched to the right. Real strange. I'll be back when I've done some tests with calls
Is anyone else having an issue with the always on display? Not a big deal but occasionally the AOD goes off and the tap to wake function doesn't work. Unlocking/locking the phone fixes it but it reoccurs again randomly through the day.

I was having the same issue when I had the edge notification app installed that makes the screen light up around the camera when you get a notification.
Uninstalled and no issues since
Tap to wake not working for me
Not sure if this is connected but in addition to the always on display/tap to wake issue when I'm in a phone call the screen will stay off even when I move the phone from my ear to hang up, see the keypad etc. Again I have to use the power button to wake the screen. A problem with the proximity sensor perhaps?

No, I've not installed any apps like that.
I am having both the issue with always on display and the screen staying off during a call even when it's not up to my face. I don't have any edge display app installed. They happened right out of the box. Glad it's not just me.

This is an odd one - are you using a case? I just had a case through the post this morning and now using the phone with the case the issues have stopped! I'll keep checking through the day but as of now all is good.

Not using a case. It's sporadic. Tap to wake works fine for a while and then stops. The issue during calls is constant. Not major issues just niggles.
Not noticed any bugs with ambient display, but it has used 20 percent battery in 21hrs.
Seems a bit high to me, have just turned it off, not worth a 5th of my battery.

Yeah I'm having both issues happen RANDOMLY as well. I'm HOPING Google will put out a fix for these two issues very soon.
Tried working with Google's Tech Support Team via chat earlier on the AOD issue. Tried a few things like clearing the cache of the launcher & restarting in Safe Mode then back to Normal Mode, and it seems to be doing it less but then it just did it again for a short time like an hour ago.
Using a case, no edge stuff, and also using Nova Launcher (though it happened in Pixel Launcher as well).
If anyone finds a fix for this, I would appreciate it too!

Mine is fine for a while them randomly the tap-to-wake won't respond. I had also hoped that the OTA would have addressed, but maybe it is affecting far fewer users than other bugs.

Yeah. Seems like more and more people are noticing and like me reporting these various issues to Google. So hopefully the next batch will include fixes for all this stuff.
I have same two problem with AOD, touch to wake up and screen off/on when calling.

I recommend you guys report these issues to Google so to increase the odds of them coming up with an OTA sooner than later. You can call them or chat with them via this link (as I did). Just scroll down to the bottom and choose your contact preference.

On the pixel support forum they also recommend you report it via settings>about phone>send feedback about device. I think this way it also easily picks up the log files.
I believe the answer to all of your questions lies in a faulty proximity sensor. I was driving myself nuts with all of these issues exactly, and no app was the culprit because I factory reset and still had the issue. I'm going to post a link to a Reddit thread that I found that confirmed my suspicions. on Wednesday of this week I went back to Verizon and traded the phone in and now I have received a phone that works 100% as expected.
Reddit thread.
Good luck all, hope this helps.

Yeah I got an e-mail from the support guy to do that as well after he'd ask that I send a bug report. Just did it regarding AOD not staying on all the time and also.............I noticed that Hold for Me doesn't ALWAYS come up when calling businesses. Two examples include T-Mobile Customer Service & a local major hospital in Chicago. In most cases though, it does. Just an FYI. Not sure if this is something that they will fix, but I think it should come up all the time, or AT LEAST when you're calling an established business of ANY kind.

Very interesting!
I REALLY don't want to send mine back because I've spent so much time setting it up already (and my sister's too lol). I did some changes in the settings so I'll just cross my fingers and hope it works right.
Is there a way to recalibrate the proximity sensor?

I don't believe it's a calibration issue. The way mine worked (or didn't as the case may be) was sporadic and seemed to almost be as if the sensor or module was loose? Inside the housing. Quite literally, jostling it around would make it work sometimes. Furthermore, if you download the app in that reddit thread, the proximity sensor tester Link Here, you can sort of gauge yourself if it's actually occurring. With mine, sometimes it would work by swiping my hand over the sensor, the color would change. Other times, the color stayed the same, and as the video showed ,I could put pressure on where the sensor was and change the color. But if it wasn't working, jostling the phone around would sometimes make it work and the color would change.
Additionally in the advanced test in that app, it is supposed to tell you how far away from the sensor an object is. On my (nonworking) phone, that number for distance would be pegged at 0 regardless of how far away my hand was. However if I put pressure on the sensor, it would jump to like 5 cm.
See if your phone is doing these things. If so, I would recommend you get it replaced, as it likely will not work properly otherwise. Verizon deemed this a hardware issue when I swapped phones. Also note that I factory reset twice, and one of those times I imported literally nothing when setting it up. So it wasn't a settings or app issue. I do believe there's a rash of faulty proximity sensors going on here.

Hey Morpherios,
Ok.............downloaded that app and tried it out several times. It passed some of the time, but then I'd try it again a few minutes later and it would fail on both tests. Ughh!!
You think even though it passed a few times I still need to replace it?
For over three months I happily have xperia 10 mark 4. There are one couple of things that do not give me peace. Maybe someone has similar observations and solutions to these problems. The biggest anxiety is the strange operation of the light sensor, the sensor responsible for blocking the phone during a call. In my opinion it works. as he wants. Often it only dims after putting it on the table, unlocks in the pocket, or after finishing the conversation it turns out that it is permanently blocked and you need to unlock it to hang up. Often, it does not lock up during the conversation and it turns out that any program is turned on. Sometimes everything works perfectly. This is the biggest problem so far. The unlocking itself works somehow so slowly and not always correctly. Has anyone seen the icon or the information 'fast charging'? I have an 18w and 30w charger and like nothing. How does 5g work for you - does it work at all? A few more things, but I will wait a bit for our department, if not, I will continue here.
The next thing that bothers me is that sometimes right at the beginning of the call I hear this click - quite strong - and the volume changes a bit. Have you noticed that too? Unfortunately, my phone has fallen a few times from the height of the pocket in my pants..
