Tried to use xbmc on it to play some video but the menu botton (at the bottom of a portrait screen, swipe it you can bring out the bar with home and back button etc) is always visible in the full screen mode. Is there a way to hide it?
Thanks

I love the idea of softkeys. With it you can put bigger screens on smaller devices and they can disappear whenever needed to.
The main problem is that it's a 50/50% chance that they will disappear when I think that they should. With physical keys that's never an issue.
Movies, yes
Games, yes
Full screen applications, yes
etc.
What determines when the keys disappear and not? Is it up to the app creator? What can I do about it (I'm not rooted)?
They can't always disappear in full screen games. If the game needs a back button you would be stuck.
I assume there is something in there that tells it. Much like if an app does not have an on screen menu button (usually three dots), a menu button will be added to the lower right side of the portion of the screen where the soft keys are.
It's not there for all apps, only ones that don't have a menu button on screen. Not sure if this is declared by the app or if 4.4 can detect it somehow and show the button when needed.

Click to collapse
On my tablet (running 4.1) I get these dots you are talking about (but not in the lower right corner, they replace the ordinary softkeys)). That's all fine because they take less space (from what I remember) then the ordinary softkeys.
If it all comes down to having a back button in the app, why not implement that in the app?
I downloaded crazy taxi yesterday and those softkeys are annoying me as hell.
I ended up getting used to using LMT and just turn on expanded desktop to make the navigation keys go away. That way if LMT gives me any trouble...I just hit the power button and turn off expanded desktop and my navigation keys are back. (Gravity box to get that option in power menu.)
Hated pie at first...but used to it now.

I like the look of full screen mode, but don't appreciate constantly doing unintentional inputs when swiping up to bring up the navigation bar. I found the option to hard press where the home button would be in full screen mode to trigger the home button without having to swipe up. there should really be an option to do this with recent and back keys as well. is that area of the screen hard press sensitive? if so are there any apps or mods to be able to hard press recent and back keys the way you can with the home key?
the setting can be found:
Display > Navigation bar > HARD PRESS HOME BUTTON > ON
("Use the home button while it's hidden by pressing harder than usual")
Thanks!
Only the home button is pressure sensitive.

it's stuck in the far right and as a left-handed user, i'd rather it in the center or more closer to the left. holding on the button wont let me move it or do anything. is anyone else experiencing this?
Not sure what you mean by apps button? If you are referring to the navigation bar then you can swap the recents with the back button
Just search navigation bar in settings
its the button on your home screen that opens up the list of all your apps
Under display in the settings there is an option to turn the app button on
yes, it's on my home screen but I am unable to move the icon around the bottom like my other shortcuts, which is my issue
What a pain in the arse, now just swipe up
Might go back to NoVA because of this

Hi guys,
for my wife I am searching for a 1-click solution to easily cast a Samsung tablets screen to a TV via Chromecast v2.
Google Home lets me pick the TV, then allows for streaming the screen with a button at the bottom.
Ideally I'd like to have a cast button right on the homescreen. A direct shortcut. Tasker and Nova, it's all here. Any ideas? Google Play Store is full of bull**** castware.
thx
Well, I can't speak to the damage that samduck does to Android, but for proper AOSP or Pixel, you can add a "cast" button into the quick settings menu (when you pull down from the top of the screen, that is the row of buttons at the top of the screen with wifi, airplane mode, etc.).
When you pull the menu down TWICE, Android is supposed to have a little icon that looks like a pencil, tap that and it should go into edit mode where you can drag tiles around. If you put the "screen cast" into one of the first 6 spaces, it will appear in the quick settings menu on first pull-down. This is far easier (for your wife) than having a home screen button, since its always available and not just when you return to the home screen.
Is there a way to make the NB "icons" smaller?
Is there a way to add Screenshot to either the NB or as a quick touch button, besides the vol down/power method?
I don't know how to make the icons smaller but regarding your second question,
Quick Settings - Apps on Google Play
Fully exploit the potential of quick settings
play.google.com
this app can add any settings to quick tile. Just search for 'screenshot' and tap 'Enable tile'.
You can also take a screenshot from the 'Recents' menu. Swipe up slowly from the bottom and there will be an option for screenshot.
thanks. I'll try the app. The slow swipe doesn't work. Perhaps because I have 3 buttons engaged instead of gestures?
If you use the 3 button navigation, tap on the square one (right button) which will bring up the 'Recents' menu. The slow swipe was for if you use gesture navigation so it's the same thing.
got it
