[Q] OTA Update dependence on Stock Recovery - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Hello:
I am in need of a stock recovery for 4.06.651.4 as I want to update my stock+ 4.06.651.4 to the OTA 4.06.651.9 update. I have stock recovery .img's from previous versions but not for 4.06.651.4.
Currently, I just flash the 4.06.651.4 unmodified firmware then apply the OTA 4.06.651.9 update. Following that, I flash twrp. This method works but seems/is kind of a waste of time.
Q - Where can I find a stock recovery for 4.06.651.4?
Q - Is there a tool/method to create a "stock recovery.img" from the installed unmodified firmware? I am willing to write one.
Q - Does anyone know if older versions of the "stock_recovery.img" are compatible with 4.06.651.4?
Thanks in Advance...

Thanks for the response!
I tried that ... failed with a "bad header" message which lead me to believe it was encrypted. Believing what you say, I grabbed a copy of 7z and voila, problem solved and I now have a stock recovery for 4.06.651.4.
I have retired my WinZip tool.
Again, thanks

I also read on xda that in order to go back i need to have s-off(i know have s-on) to install the new rom.zip but this is also impossible because in order to go back i need a ruu file.

Okay, custom recovery, rooted. Custom ROM? You didn't say. In any event, you will need to flash stock recovery and unroot. I think both can be done with AIO Tools. Then you can update. If on custom ROM, S-Off, flash stock recovery, downgrade HBoot, and RUU.

[Q] sense 6 OTA not working

Hello,
I have 4.4.2 installed on my One. I had rooted it with custom recovery. But as sense 6 is there I un-rooted it, locked it properly and removed tampered flag. Installed stock recovery and also put it in S-ON.
I can download OTA but while installing it is failing. It is showing red triangle and restarting it.
Can somebody help me to proceed further? If I go to HTC, will they update it?
I think , preload file is wiped when u unlocked ur device
Try installing ota manual and write the message

Your problem is the current ROM is not 100% stock, some files are missing especially the preload.
1. What is your current software version no. ?
2. unlock the bootloader again and flash TWRP
3. flash a stock ROM.zip of your version no. or restore a proper nandroid backup
4. reboot and do the normal setup
5. reboot to bootloader
6. flash the stock recovery
7. reboot and do the OTA
So ... solve the no. 1 first.

Hey,
My software version number is 4.20.707.7 with HBOOT 1.56. I don't have stock ROM readily available anywhere like htc1guru etc., so I am downloading it from one of the xda thread.
Now
I will install TWRP,
reset stock ROM (there is also an option of installin stock recovery) once my download finishes.
Then again will lock boot loader,
put S ON back
update sense 6 OTA.

1. There is another file that you need to flash after that ROM zip.
See : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52981541&postcount=57
2. There is no need to lock boot loader and put S-On back (if now is S-Off) to do OTA update
Only stock recovery is needed

You are using TWRP - you cannot flash an ota via adb. It does not work. You need stock recovery to flash the OTA
Edit: you need to download the firmware and flash the stock recovery from the link where the OTA was

6. After boot sound, It keeps on HTC logo
7. Force restart (Power + Vol down)
8. Enter stock recovery & choose reboot system
9. Stuck on black screen (boot sound doesnt appear)

Look through this RUU collection and find the RUU which matches your current version paying particular attention to the CID & MID. Follow the instructions in the OP once it is installed then try the OTA.
@elias.parasini You can flash twrp do a full wipe and then flash a custom Rom.. if you prefer stock your best bet would be a nandroid backup.
I've had the same problem with a different version. Look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc...k-recovery-t3132656/post61347774#post61347774
You can also use a ruu like majmoz suggested but that'd require s-off if I'm not mistaken. Can you post your getvar all?

@elias.parasini Go to fastboot and enter the command "fastboot getvar all" then post the result here after removing your imei and serialno.
If you still can't boot the phone you're gonna need to download a twrp nandroid backup if you prefer stock. If you're willing to try a custom Rom then you can choose one and flash it using twrp. Do you know how to use nandroid backups nd custom roms?
Ps. You don't have to relock the bootloader before ota.

That backup will work to get your phone back up and running, but you won't be able to update, the reason is because you are already on the latest hboot, and the ota's will come with an older hboot, you can't back flash hboot without s-off, so if you try and install any ota's, you will get stuck in a boot loop, you need a twrp of your current version main or previous version really, or get s-off so you can back flash the hboot, only way to do this is through sunshine which costs $25.

@Seanie280672 thanks for stepping in.. how about using revone?
not sure about this particular case, but i've restored a cwm nandroid backup (whic was created by me back when i was on 4.4.3 before upgrading to the official lollipop) i restored it while on 7.19.401.102.. does that affect the hboot? then did a factory reset, flashed the old (4.4.3) recovery then upgraded to lollipop (7.19.401.102) then another reset and finally the 7.19.401.121 ota.. everything worked flawlessly regardless of the hboot..

Unfortunately revone, rumrunner etc won't work with hboot 1.61, sunshine is the only way to s-off this hboot.
With your restore, it worked because you only went back 1 step to kitkat rom, the ota which you then upgraded to contained hboot 1.61 and as you were already on that hboot, that part of the upgrade would of just been skipped,
If you have of restored an older nand for instance, like jelly bean whilst having hboot 1.61, and then tried to ota to kitkat, you would fail and get stuck in a boot loop as the ota would have tried to flash the kitkat hboot 1.56 or 1.57 and failed as even the ota can't downgrade hboot without s-off, which is the situation this guy is in, he needs a newer nand than the one you linked really, either a 6.xx.707.x or a 7.xx.707.x nand.

3. Boot your M8 into the bootloader, make sure its on fastboot usb mode
4. CMD: fastboot oem rebootRUU
4.b fastboot flash zip *name of the zip file* (or you can drag it from your fastboot folder to CMD screen also works)
5. If it says something like reflash immediately just redo step 4.b its fine
6. After its successful type on your CMD: fastboot reboot-bootloader
7. On bootloader you should now see its 4.16.401.13
good work man
Is this really the whole firmware? The last firmware i flashed, contains 19 image files ^^ What about radio adsp etc.?
Btw i think you wanted to write:
"5. If it says something like reflash immediately just redo step 4.b its fine"

Thanks for seeing that mistake mate, as for the firmware I should have put its an OTA to 4.16.401.13 *sorry my bad*
I seen people asking how to update to 4.16.401.13 so I made this zip for another thread, therefore I thought I'd make a thread to help people out.
I will get the name fixed so it doesn't mislead people.
Thanks
After flashing this firmware I was unable to launch the TWRP. The message Entering recovery... was displayed and then the FastBoot was launched. The solution to the problem was to apply the SuperCID.

What CID you had before and what recovery are you running now? I ask this because I have the same issue with TWRP 2.8.7.0 after update to this firmware and didn't change to SuperCID but flashed TWRP 2.8.1.0.

Before my CID was: HTC__032
Now I'm using TWRP 2.8.7.0 which is included in the archive. I was using the same TWRP version before the firmware upgrade with no problems.
Would it be possible to make this firmware update into an img file? I have tried fastboot flashing but it keeps failing. Thanks.
Is this for any particular variant of the M8? (TMobile, VZW, etc)
Or is it for any one?

There is an issue with firmware update 4.16.401.13 and twrp 2.8.7.0. In fact latest version of twrp which I was able to install (and run) was 2.8.1.0. All newer versions of twrp recovery refusing to run after install with this firmware!
I have a Verizon M8 and I keep getting:
FAILED (remote: 41 model id check fail)
ı flshed firmware. my phone is s off and super cid. but it isnt reboot now.
ı flashed arom again .phone is open bur hbot is not4.16.401
It's the version of the firmware not hboot. It should be 3.19.0.0000 if I remember well. 4.16.401.13 is almost the same as 4.16.401.10 but it should include Stagefright fix.

Can this .zip file be instaled from the SD card directly from bootloader by renaming it into 0P6BIMG?
