I bricked my Fire HD (red triangle), so I downloaded the Kindle Fire HD System.img recovery tool onto my Samsung laptop.
Then I decided to unbrikc it using using my other laptop, so I copied the unzipped file over through USB.
Now whenever I try and execute option one, I get-
error: could not load images/system.img
Everything that should be in there is in there. I tried deleting the files and copying them back over but still the same.
Help before I throw the goddamn thing out of a window?
Oh, one more thing. I don't have TWRP /2nd bootloader. I gave up wrestling with it to get it to install at 5am this morning.

Try kindle fire first aid instead then, it will download the images off the net and should work. If you need any advice with installing 2nd bootloader + twrp after you get it restored feel free to post back.

How long does the system.img file take to download? Seems like its taking a while, even though it is a large file.

Yep, pretty sure something's gone wrong along the way as I've had it running for a few hours now.
Something I noticed was when I ran the System.img tool as a non-administrator account, it gave me a slightly different message:
load_file: could not allocate 929038336 bytes
error: cannot load 'images/system.img'
Not sure if that means anything.

I can't stand uac, i disable it in windows 7. As long as the image is in the same folder as the fastboot command, and you cd into that folder from a administrative command prompt, you shouldnt being getting that error, that error means it cant find the file you specified.
edit: Wait, that was a error for size being too big probably, wth? gimme a sec
edit2: ok that doesn't make sense thats about 886mb.
if you wonder how i get a number in the 800's when the number starts with a 9 its because a mb is technically 1024kb etc. computers operate in base 2 whereas we operate in base 10. Yay math!

Think that anything can be done? Or should I start ebaying for a new tablet?
I don't think there should be a reason to get a new tablet, I mean this should work, maybe someone else has some ideas? I'd be willing to try to fix it remotely myself because this is weird. This scenario is just weird in general, haven't run into this problem before to the point I have a definite yes it is fixable or no its not.

Are you sure you are using a KFHD7 and not a KF2? I ask because that file to big error was common with that. You will want to use option 3 of the Kindle Fire restore tool.

Edit: You said definitely a KFHD, I misread. Does it have a camera and HDMI output or no? Did you check the images you downloaded to make sure they are there and that the download did not get corrupted.
Edit2: The 2013 KFHD will not work with the 2012 system restore but will with the 2012. This problem never really happened with the KFHD7 far as I can remember.

Yep, front camera and hdmi.
It's definitely the 2012 edition, as I got it for Christmas in 2012. Unless the 2013 version was released in 2012, like they do with the guiness world records books.
I've been trying to flash them manually but I keep getting <waiting for device>
For KFHD7 it's x0149 right?

Waiting for device means your fastboot is not being recognized. Can you copy/paste the path you have set up. It's the tool folder path from the SDK package. You want to make sure the drivers are set up properly to.

No, not at all. Images have to be made a certain way to flash via fastboot. Besides your fastboot is not being recognized so nothing will flash atm.

Hardly. I was thinking ADB drivers since the commands returned with denied permission.
Try a factory reset then try again, make sure allow installation from unknown sources is ticked, when you get the prompt on your kindle to restore during the process enter your amazon password then hit restore.

I DID IT!!!!!!! This is a big deal for me and this is how I(ole Grany) here Rooted a Kindle Fire HD 7.4.1.
I Changed PC's from Win 7 to Windows XP
I did a clean install of the ADB Drivers for Kindle(Made sure it showed up in Device Manager (No SDK install)
I restored Kindle to Factory, Set the Accept things like adb and developer thing in the kindle
I installed the Bin4ry v26(tried v30 would not work)
I extracted the Bina4ry to desktop to folder called "rooting"
then went to prompt and / cd desktop/rooting/runme
First go I thought I screwed up Kindle all apps gone and it was in slow mo..
Did a factory reset
Started over...BAM! I almost peed my pants...
Then followed instructs for installing Play...BAM..done
Now all I need is a new rom which I have no idea which is best so give me some ideas and I will learn how to install that
Oh I used es explorer(the new one) ad task manager.
I swear the Kindle seems faster..

didnt work still boots back to TWRP flash screen tried all 8 bottons what do i do now plz anyone?
in twrp what buton do i pick and witch folder after that plz help anyone
Oh you have twrp, you could just "adb push" a stock rom on there from the development section, but if you're going to take the kffa or kfsrt route with flashing stock, just go into twrp, hit reboot, then hit bootloader, it should go into fastboot. It will probably restore stock recovery though, not sure i haven't use either of the tools mentioned before, so you might have to reinstall that.
just pulled it back from the FIRE
Ok just got it back working, followed your advice and started looking for post about using the sideloading option in the TWRP to push stock OS 7.4.6 to the SD card, found one that gave the adb code to push, im new so i dont know stuff like that "adb sideload C;/desktop/kfhd7-amizon-os-kfhd7.4.6.zip"
Don't know why all the file locations were empty when i tried to use TWRP consol the instructions in the post said reboot after everything else
when i did it would not reboot into system and if i tried to install a zip could not find a file in there anywere witch is wieard because all file came back when i pushed the kfhd7.zip to the sd card even the disk img on my sd card?
anyway all's good that ends well ..........
dont think ill try it again soon on my 7hd
maybe one more time on the one im sending back to amizon its dead i should have a cable by tus so ill try and bring it back to life if only to make sure theres nothing there for techs to refuse my warenty just a big blank space.:good:
I recently bought a KFHD 7 2013 with version 7.4.7 loaded on it. Root was fairly simple but after reading through Hashcode's and seokhun's threads it seems like the installation for Bootloader and TWRP is updated for up to 7.4.6. I was to install some custom roms to make this device into a full android tablet so does anyone have any info for kindles with 7.4.7?
Has anyone tried and succeeded using the methods in the tutorial for 7.4.6?
Is there another way for 7.4.7?
Please post up if you have any information.
OK put it this way, the current method does work for it, because the main thing to know is we have to downgrade the boot loader first anyways. You can also downgrade the is if you wanted. Anyways point being, the current freedomboot image more than likely doesn't work with that version, but here's the important little bit about that. The freedomboot doesn't really matter as long as you put the ROM and gapps on the device first or Don,t mind going through the trouble of pushing it onto the device with the adb command afterwards when it's in recovery. If the current freedom boot version isn't the same as the os version you typically will bootloop. So yea in short yes it works, just put the ROM you want to flash on the internal storage first so you can flash it without a hassle.

Oh I see the link was missing a hyphen! I need to go to this thread and use the tools provided there. Since Rootjunky.com posted up a really good video to get into fastboot mode I should have no problems getting this to work. After I downgrade I can easily follow seokhun's guide and have CM or PA installed in no time. Thanks a ton!

Hi Folks!
I think i made a big mistake.
I used Kindle Fire First Aide on my device and now I'm stuck in Fastboot mode.
From what i read now, i used the wrong Version (Option "Completely Restore the KFHD 7 7.2.3") wich is for older Kindles.
I looked for the Stock Images for this Model, but couldn't find them....
Is there a way to fix it or do i have to contact Amazon?
Can Amazaon reconstruct my mistake and avoid the warranty?
Thank's l lot for guiding a prat....

That method should work. It flashes a small system image with some stuff removed i think, then it pushes a update onto the device that then updates it to a full os. Should work like it did on the other devices it was tested on, i'm assuming that utility should also flash the correct bootimg and recovery as well. Without the right bootimg it wouldn't probably bootup enough for the procedure to finish.

That method should work. It flashes a small system image with some stuff removed i think, then it pushes a update onto the device that then updates it to a full os. i tried kyle-berry's files but it didnt boot up after that.. had to use an old boot.img
I haven't downloaded his tool to checkout his script and see how it runs. Does it flash the old boot image we were using or does it not flash the boot partition at all?

Some background...Rooted and unlocked. I removed encryption right after I bought it.
I attempted to flash 5.1 the update. I flashed the bootloader and radio first, and rebooted the bootloader. Everything went fine until I tried to flash the system image. I got a lot of "sparse" errors.
When it rebooted it re-encrypted the device. But now nothing works. Phone, NFC ect shows errors. I can get into the bootoader, and I can flash stuff, but the recovery menu is gone,. It's just an error icon with "no connection" now.
Any ideas on how I can salvage this? I already backed everything up before I started. Is there a way I can just wipe everything and go back to stock? Even if it is 5.01?
EDIT - My bootloader is still showing as unlocked. I did not re-lock it.

Install factory images using fastboot
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
You might have "soft bricked" it, but if you still have bootloader access you are fine
I actually tried that, but it will not recognize it from ADB...I can flash stuff via fastboot, but ADB does not see it.
I did fully update the android SDK before I started. Should'nt that have updated all the drivers needed for ADB?

you update via fastboot, while youre in the bootloader. adb has nothing to do with it.
When I go to the platform tools folder, and use "adb devices", it tells me nothing after "list of devices attached". As if it does not see the phone.
When I attempt to "fastboot -w update image-shamu-lmy47d.zip", a window comes up and scrolls 3 or 4 lines too fast to see, and then exits. Nothing happens.

Have you updated the SDK? Drivers installed? Also, read up on how to use fastboot. Fastboot only works from bootloader, not when booted into Android.
I'm all for adb, but save yourself a headache and get wugs toolkit and use force flash.

Better to learn some basics first then you shall fear no soft brick ever!

SDK is updated. I assumed it updated drivers as well. If not, where do I get those?
I do understand that fastboot only works while in the bootloader. I have not attempted to use it while in Android.

Just extract the .zip and flash the things inside separately using fastboot. You can skip user data I believe (or not if you don't care about erasing your device). Using the -w switch would have erased it anyway. The commands are easy, just "fastboot flash system system.img" and the like. Change "system" and "system.img" for the file you're flashing.

What's it to you? Yeah I'm fine with adb thanks. If you want to discuss something other than helping the OP go ahead and pm me.

Ok, I did this. It appeared to work correctly, but...
My phone looks like it did before. In "about" I see it shows 5.1 as the version. I have lost root. Shouldn't I be reset to factory appearance since I overwrote the entire system? Everything looks intact, including nova launcher.
Phone appears to be working normally. I am on the phone on hold as I type this. I am just worried about problems down the road. Do I need to flash anything else? Can I assume the bootloader and radio installed correctly?

Its just you mentioned a toolkit as an alternative to adb but adb has nothing to do with any of this so if you're going to be helping the OP, I thought I'd better check that you know what you're talking about. ...which I don't think you do... So back to the point, how I'm helping the OP is by telling him to ignore everything you say. THAT'S "what's it" to me. Cheeky chops
@JeffDenver, ignore this guy. Use fastboot. Read general > all in one guide > question 28 for any info you may need, including drivers.
to repeat again, you use fastboot to flash the factory img, while youre in the bootloader. it should take you just several minutes to do, or a little bit longer if you are being very carefull. adb has nothing to do with it.

its probably a good idea to factory reset since you're going up a major version and have already had problems.

The reason I suggested wugs, is the first thing it has you do after installation is walks you through removing old drivers and installing the correct drivers and making sure that the phone is recognized. Then it will download the needed files and check the md5's which would help to avoid further problems.
