Well, I think you have to to use a 4.3 Rom because of the new touchscreen drivers.

I'm using a 4.3 Rom with just the radio updated, and I'm not having any issues. I was just wondering if there was a difference in performance updating the firmware also?

Are you on the official kit kat release? If so, then I'm sorry to say you can't downgrade. There's no root access either. :'(
