I love my curve (Flex) and I know it's way to early to even think about another phone but being the phone junkie I am it's hard not to. Just wondering if any Flex users thought about trying a S5 or M8 when they come out? I doubt I would get another phone but I did get a good deal on my Flex and or have a jump to use so I wouldn't be spending more money. I used a S4 for about a year which is long for me. I'm just not feeling the rehashed design. I liked the HTC One, so I would probably like the M8.
So way hose, I'm coming from the s4,s5 only point 1 inch bigger. Can't go down regardless of the better resolution
curious as to what the new HTC phone actually looks like and does, but, as far as any Samsung stuff, no thanks, until they actually come up with something "new", not just continued rehashing of the tired, old Galaxy/note stuff
As far as the screen size I don't think I care that much between 5in or 6in. I kind of like having a smaller phone in the Spring/Summer time.
I guess one good thing with the Sammy phones and maybe even HTC is development should be good. As of now I'm fine with stock on my Flex but down the road I might want change things up.
I know the #1 thing I would miss with the Flex is the great battery life. As of now LG is top dog with that.
There are 2 phones I am waiting on, the LG G Pro 2 and the Note 4. Other than that I don't see anything worth getting that excited about. After saying that if I had the opportunity to get an S5 or M8 I wouldn't say no.
Note 4?how soon is that? Specs?
I'll probably get an s5 and m8 but I'll keep the flex as my main phone. Sucks I'll have to now use a nano adapter for the s5.
sent from the new G Flex
M8 looks interesting. It's no lytro but the dual camera could be quite nice if the resolution is not as abysmal as the m7.

will any of these phones support tri-band and are any of them close to a 6 inch screen
Nope- I will never have a screen under 5.5 inches again.
All New HTC ONE MAX- if that comes out in a reasonable time period, perhaps.
I may take a look at the M8, not sure about the S5 because I use a Note 3.

Past year I had: droid dna, one M7, s4, nexus 4, s4 active, note3, gzone commando 4g, anyone of those is not as good as flex, not even closer; M7 battery is crap and screen is dark, nexus 4 looks cheap, note 3 I'll tell you one word: Knox, s4 or s3 who cares. Only two phones I really liked casio one because is tough and flex because is cute, fast, battery last forever, UI is fantastic and everybody ask about it.

Guess some people not to happy with the M8 camera. Always going to be something though. One thing that I didn't care for with the HTC One is the phone isn't as wide as say the s4 or G2. I think the same goes for the M8. I might be over it. Sorry Flex I wasn't going to cheat on you. LoL

No, the Flex is a good phone, possibly the Lg G Pro 2
I've been a phone junkie and I can't remember my last bad phone. The HTC Evo 3D was big mistake. lol At times I do miss the compact size of my G2. I like the curved screen but not sure if I will get the Flex 2. I like switching manufactures or at least something different. Maybe even try the iPhone 6 if they ever make the screen bigger.
imo..the only postive the s5 or m8 have over the flex is ext sd card support..the screen is a subjective matter.
If the flex had sd card id have one the day it was released here in canada...as it is it will be hard not to buy one...it has has a totally unique appeal to it.

True, but the 32gig has been enough for me to store some compressed movies to watch. So what do people do with phones with 32gig internal and 64gig cards?

Yeah those nandroids do take up a lot of space. I have 15gig of pictures but I use Dropbox with free 50 gig to upload automatically every pic taken

I find my Galaxy Nexus too big, and I am very intrigued by this phone. It looks like I can get it new and unlocked for about $130-160 on Ebay and it has about the same, if not better specs than my Gnex.
Could anyone offer me any arguments for or against this move?
Don't factor unlocked into your buying decision, you can unlock it yourself once you have root.
The "cons":
- "Only" 16 gb of storage (yet I don't know anyone who puts 16 gb of anything on their phone)
- "Mid range" specs (I've tested the most graphically intense games out there and they run smoothly)
- Size
- Facebook Home (not worth mentioning, we're on XDA)
The real cons:
- The camera is relatively weak but it improves with this mod.
- No expandable storage
- No removable battery
- Little attention
The pros:
- High PPI
- Specs
- Good battery life
- LTE, NFC
- Size
- Solid construction
- Matte finish
I don't understand why so few people care about this phone but go gaga over the One Mini, they're practically twins specwise. I guess people just like shiny things I'm a Thinkpad kinda guy so the First looks better to me.
People are trying to port the One Mini's stock 4.2.2 rom, once that's successful we might see Cyanogen on the First. Until then I'd recommend sticking to stock, JMZ's sense rom has a few issues.
Thank You for the information.
I actually consider size one of my primary motivations for going this route. I find most modern phones way too large, and I sure as hell do not want to go the Iphone route. This phone seems like a really awesome phone that just wasn't marketed properly.
I do not mind the mid range specs, and my Gnex already is stuck at 16gb with no expandable storage, and while the battery is removable, its still a pretty weak battery.
I hope to be able to get one off Ebay sometime in the next couple of weeks, wait for the right deal.
In the first set of cons I was referring to things that reviewers have complained about. I kid you not, they complained about screen size after using their Galaxy phones for so long. They complained about numbers in benchmarks that are nigh unnoticeable in actual use. Then they spend the rest of the review bashing FB home which can be turned off with 2 taps.
Well, I purchased a HTC First today off of Ebay. I should be getting it by the end of next week. Pretty excited.
This phone needs a micro sim, not a regular sim is that right?

I thought the HTC First was pretty great coming from the Galaxy Nexus. If you compare screen sizes, the ammount of display available on the Gnex is about equal to what's available on the First due to the on screen buttons on the GNex. I think the First is faster, has a prettier display, and has a really unique look along with LTE. That being said, my biggest complaint is that the phone is a forgotten phone already. There's no development support which is a huge bummer. I'd LOVE it if I could throw CM or AOKP on this device. It would be a dream come true.
I just got this phone and my mom took over my lg optimus g on sprint and put in a straight talk at&t LTE capable micro Sim card. I like the size and stock aosp. Coming from a rooted lg optimus g running pacman.

We have unofficial cm ports coming so we have some support. But HTC told me that its been discontinued.
Um, ya camera isn't as good as I would like, but hen I was picking between a used one x and this I picked the first cause 1.4ghz is a lot, my hands are small so 4.7 inches is too much and the used one x was 220$ while I got this for 155$ brand new.

Depends on what phone you have now. I have both the T-Mo one and the T-Mo note 3. The bigger screen is nice on the G-Flex, but the screen on the Note 3 looks better to my eye. I do like the curved screen which is one reason I am willing to give the G-Flex a try. However the S-Pen is really nice on the Note 3. Only you can decide what you want. Go into a store and try out the GFlex and see what you think.
Ok so here are my first impressions, first thing i am coming from a Note 3 and like Prod said i notice the lower screen quality right away. From the wallpaper to the hideous LG icons does are the first to things i disliked right away. I was spoiled with the Note 3 1080p so i can really tell the difference kind of disappointed on flex screen. I played a 1080p Movie and it was ok not as bad as the icons, wallpaper and pictures on websites. On the other hand i like the phone itself the curve, buttons, size and feel pretty much everything so far. Phone feels snappier than Note 3 also. If only the screen was a 1080p this would be a really good phone. I have just played with it briefly so this are my initial thoughts. PS if you guys are debating on this or the Note 3 and if its going to be your long term phone go with Note 3, Like i said in other treads i change phones every 3 months or so and ill probably just have the flex for 2 months. One more pic Flex and Note 3.
I'm coming from note 2 and my plan was to get this phone, get the 6 months of Netflix, use it for 6 or 7 months and then use jump! To get the note 4,which should absolutely be a freaking beast.
Either that or get the s5 but I don't want the s5 then jump to the note 4. Besides I absolutely LOVE the way that the flex looks.

Yea one thing the flex does have is looks for sure and the curve, if coming from note 2 it shouldn't be that bad of a transition. I have been looking at some more 1080p movies on it and its good not as bad and there's something about the curve that give the movies a different feel I wasn't a believer on this but its true.

Saw it today at att store today, At person greeting at the entrance said the phone was not in yet, lol. but it was, I noticed on the way out as I was checking out the Mega and Note 3. The phone holds great in the hand and the curve looks great. After reading review here about the screen that's the first thing I looked for and noticed it a little. The Icon in the phone look as if stretched a bit. Then in youtube saw a HD 1080 vedio and was not impressed. Apart from that I would be very happy with this phone.
The phone seemed to fit in my front pocket no problem. I just started wearing glasses last year and sometimes I forget and my eyes start to hurt from reading on the phone. since you have both N3 and G Flex does reading a book look better (or even noticeable) on the Note 3 vs g Flex? I would imagine it would look sharper on the N3. thus causing less eye strain for me.
Have you tried installing Nova launcher to see if it gives you a crisper icons.
Enjoy you G Flex and thanks in advance.
Congrats on the new phone. I'm a phone whore like you. I took a look at the Flex today at a AT&T store since T-Mobile didn't have it yet and a snow storm is coming now. lol I liked it but coming from the G2 I'm not sure. I'll have to think about it some more.

Ok if ur coming from G2 i would figure the change would not be so bad since its the same hardware and u are getting way more screen only thing would be the great screen quality on G2. I like the Flex design and battery life but other then that it's just a stretched out G2. I'm just thinking after the newness wears off I might regret leaving the G2. I had the Note 2 and S4 before. I went to the G2 because it was different.

Two words to keep me from Samsung: TouchWiz, Knox
I currently have and S4 I can't wait to get rid of. I got a G2 then TMO announced the Flex release. I returned the G2 because I didn't want to spend a JUMP. I'll be stopping by a store to see if they have it in stock. With better things coming, I think this is a good move to get flex now and see how the new (non Samsung) devices shake out in the next few months (G Pro among others).
Man I can't wait for mine to come in Friday...then its time to start working on root and building aospa!!!
Reason i changed to was that i have been using samsung for a while and wanted a change. I was initially going to change when g2 came out but non sd made me go to N3, but i figured i was not using much memory so went to flex for something new.

I'm kind of surprised with some of the negative G Flex reviews and how some people don't even give the phone a chance. Is Samsung paying them? lol The curved design is not a gimmick. It's pretty damn impressive. IMO The phone just feels right in my hands/face and fits better in my pocket. I was impressed with how LG fit a 3000mAh battery in the compact size of the G2 which is what I had before the Flex. Now after using the Flex for a week LG has impressed me even more with battery life. I know the Flex has a bigger battery by 500mAh compared to the G2 but seems to last twice as long as the G2. Why is that? Probably because of the 720p display right? If so I might be the only one but I think LG was smart doing that. I got annoyed at times having to charge my G2 during the day. I just charge my Flex when I sleep. I think the 720p display is sharp and I have no ghosting. As you can tell I'm very happy with the Flex even coming from a G2.
I ignored all the bad reviews concerning the screen display and I'm happy with my flex coming from a N3... Battery life is superior and I'm only on my 2nd week with this phone.

I must of got lucky. I got mine in Columbus Ohio at a tmobile store and no ghosting issue for me. I do have a grainy appearance to the screen. But turn brightness up and your good if it bothers you. I doesn't for me. I tell you this coming from the note 2 to gs4 the screen was the difference maker for me. But took the hit in battery life never again not worth it if you ask me. I rather have a good to mediocre screen. ( which the flex doesn't have a crappy screen at all just a different technology). And just because everybody's using one type of screen doesn't make it a better just differently.
I personally got tired of Samsung and touchwiz. So I switch will I have the flex for ever? No I won't I will jump in six to eight months from now and into something else that give excellent battery life with killer specs. I don't regret getting the flex we already know what coming down the pipeline anyways. Oh wait let me guess.... HTC flagship, Samsung flagship, LG flagship, new nexus and also ios. It never changes people the flex got me because it's different and I personally didn't want to have compositive keys or hardware buttons such as home and back. Grow tired on rooted to gain this feature. That left me 4 choices nexus, Sony, and lg g2 or the lg g flex I went with the flex because it was the newest device that they had available and don't regret it. Yeah the note 3 is a nice device but my last 3 phones were all Samsung and like I mentioned before I grow tired and was wanting other features that Samsung couldn't offer. Just my 2 cents.
Sent from my LG-D959 using Tapatalk
no ghosting for me either, and with the brightness turned up to 60%-70%, completely grainy free..
I had the same issue with the stupid reviewers on my htc one max; that too was a great phone, but, every doosh bag reviewer found something bad to say about it. Fortunately, I have my own brain, and dont give a rats arse what any "reviewer" has to say about any electronic item I buy.
Sprint network still sucks, and because of that, I had to sell my one max, and our 2 htc one's. We all changed to T-Mobile, and are thrilled with the network coverage and speed outside of Chicago now!
4 Samsung phones in a row was enough for me, and especially with the Knox security Krap they are forcing on every one now..Lg phones are really nice, and my wife and son really like their G2's. We'll see whats out there 6 months from now, but if dev picks up for the flex, I doubt I will want to get rid of it for longer than that; the best battery I have ever seen in a phone. Now, if they would just come up with stereo front facing speakers for this beast!!
Crazy I'm in Columbus, Ohio but I got my Flex online from T-Mobile. Maybe if people don't put a magnifying glass over the phone they might enjoy it. LoL. My only issue if you call it a issue is that I want to carry the Flex naked but it's not easy to do plus risky business.

I've only read one review that gave it a thumbs up. It was a woman who reviewed it after having it for a week or so. She gave it 8/10 and I tip my hat off to her. She has small hands and looked past the size of the phone, and just reviewed it straight up.
I don't like reviewers who say the phone is comically large, and the curve of the device is a novelty. That's an opinion. Although reviews should have your opinion, it shouldn't blind you from fact. What's large for you isn't large for me. What fits in your purse, fits in my pocket. Blah blah blah. Anyway I like the Flex, not for what it is, but I like it because its just a better device than its competitors.

I'm happy with the G Flex. I was going to get the nexus 5, but the battery inside of the G Flex was appealing. The only downside I see about this beast of a phone is that there isn't expandable storage and that it's running 4.2. I do notice some of the screen issues, but I can live with it. I can't wait for development for this phone to really start.
KitKat should be coming out soon. Maybe some of the developers are just waiting on that. I love my Flex and that's all that matters to me. LoL

No more LG phones for me; if they lock the G3 down like they did the flex..
Plus, so SD card???
Crazy decision, if thats the case...an Android flagship phone with no external storage?
M8 or Z2s are my top 2 choices right now, but with no jump until August, who knows what will be out then..
Flex doens't have a SD card so you would think that wouldn't bother ya... 32GB is more then enough space for me. The white G3 is damn sexy. lol I'm thinking development will be good with the G3 since it will be a popular phone. M8 seems to small for my big mits especially after using a Flex. Sony really screwed up the Z2 release. Heck Sony might as well just skip the Z2 since the Z3 is around the corner. lol I just really like what LG is doing well other then unlocking the bootloader. I use to like Samsung but tired of the rehashed phones.

well, yeah, where there is no development, and no roms to back up, or things to flash, you dont really need a sd card, as you would if there was actual development on this or ANY phone..Plus, i like to keep alot of music, movies and pictures on my phone, and I have always kept them on my SD card, and NOT on the internal phone memory. This is the first phone I have had in years without an SD card, so I didnt know if I would miss that or not, but I do. If we had any development on the Flex, I would REALLY miss the SD card.
But its not the lack of the SD card on the flex that makes we want to get rid of it; its the locked down boot loader, the horrible screen retention that I have on this phone; I was shocked that it took LG 6 months to get kitkat on their flagship phone...
Samsung isnt an option for me either, as I am so sick of touchwiz, so its either an HTC or a Sony this time..Sony has almost no development either, so thats why I am leaning towards HTC. If they come out with a "M8 MAX", I will grab that for sure. The htc one max I had before the flex was my favorite phone in a very long time, its just too bad it was on Sprint..
I'm still surprised how much you loved the Flex for the first few months and now you hate it. I guess maybe just bad luck. Don't yell at my guys but I might even consider iPhone 6. LoL It's going to be bigger and would be something different. That won't be out for a little while though. I really liked the G2 and still like the Flex so I'll probably love the G3.

I just don't see myself keeping this a day longer than my jump allows me to switch it out.
Sometimes, you just don't know how you will feel about a device until you use it for a prolonged period, and this one was a disappointment to me, the longer I have had it, especially since I am on my third copy now..
But I never said I hate it, and I don't hate it, its just not a long term keeper for me..
And, it sounds like its NOT a long term keeper for YOU, so you must "hate it" too!
Oh you just sound like your not happy with the Flex screen and I guess LG now. I've had a Jump to use for like 5 months since I got a deal on my Flex I didn't use it. I still really like my Flex just like I did when I had my G2. I'm a phone whore and a sucker for the latest and greatest dawg. I just don't want to regret using my Jump if for some reason I still like my Flex more then the G3. Life as a phone junkie. LoL

what time does that LG G3 news conference start?
curious as to what the G3 actually is..
EDIT: NM, I just watched the replay of it..
If I was to Jump upgrade from my Flex, I would wait till there is a guide to root either the G3 or the HTC One M8 Max (or whatever HTC calls it). Until then, I would stick with the Flex.
I think I would be fine with stock for at least a few months, I was with the Flex. I don't really have to have root but for the people that do that might be smart waiting for it.
I do want root because my favorite app (Codex Reader) cannot backup the files so I use Titanium Backup to transfer over the files between phones and tablets.

what a waste of 30 minutes (ish) the launch video was blah. Very nice ideas I'll prob get it once my jump is read (tmo) though I doubt I'll use a lot of the features, the video quality will be nice as I watch a lot of movies/videos/netflix...
what I wonder is Will the kill switch be available in the U.S. and if the Quick Remote is still there.
I decided to go see X-Men instead of watching the launch video. lol Most of this phone stuff is a waste of time but it's what we like to do. Just saying...
So no date for US carriers yet?
I once went from a large screened phone to a smaller screen phone with higher specs. I was supremely disappointed. Never again.

What was the size difference in screens? 6 to 5.5 wouldn't be that much difference. Imo. I don't mind a bigger phone in the winter time when I have a jacket but in the summer time prefer a little smaller.

After finding out last night the T-Mobile G3 comes unlocked from the factory I think I'll probably pick one up soon now. Not sure what color.

Go Cavs baby!!! LeBron said he will finish his career in Cleveland. Two teams isn't that many teams these days.
You, D-Fuse and others said they would never get a LG again. I know D-Fuse changed his mind now and others will follow just like LeBron to Cleveland. LoL
well, I predict that the Cav's will win a championship, before D-fuse and I buy another LG phone!
Actually, not true, since my wife and son will probably want G3's when their jumps come up in a few weeks..
Just curious to see if anyone is making the jump now that the new nexus' have been released for pre-order. If so what was your main reason? Easy root? More development? Hardware? Software? And if not are you staying with Samsung after the lock down they put on there phones? I myself have owned several nexus phones before and they have always been great, my only issue is there is always some hardware spec I'm missing, usually the camera. Right now with this variation I feel the 5.7 inch screen is a little much for me and know ois for the camera on the nexus p and the nexus x is the right size but way to underwhelming as far as specs go.

Meant to post this in general if a mod doesn't mind moving...

I would if I didn't have to pay anything to trade

You could probably sell your edge and recoup most if not all of the cost of the nexus... that or find someone in a few months willing to trade straight up

I preordered my nexus 5x. I went from a nexus 5 to this and have regretted it ever since. My main reason is the openess..there's a huge battery problem that could be fixed without having to wait on Samsung if there wasn't a bootlock.
Yeah man after having several nexus devices I switched to the lg g3 then this and I miss the development possible with the nexus. I don't know if anyone from the att forums ever pops in on a nexus development thread but it's a virtual playground of new roms, kernels, and useful mods. Don't get me wrong I'm appreciative of anyone putting in work on the att variants, it's just nowhere near the support a nexus gets! If they would just come out with a soild camera and the premium specs the 6p has, I would've preordered also

I am cant wait to get it. I doubt im ever coming back to samsung =(
I'm getting swayed myself. My notifications, device wake don't work unless with CM locker and then it's still not consistent. Then there are the gremlins here and there but there are some that really bothers me.
Plus I'm tired of my Nexus friends getting the new upgrades all the time.
I know how you feel, especially considering if I had a nexus right now I would have the marshmallow update already. Unfortunately I'm still stuck on 5.0.2 because I don't wanna lose root! By the time we see marshmallow it'll be on the SGS7! I sweat if tmobile gets it together with a consistent lte signal Im done done done with AT&T

Samsung makes very nice phones but i really want more flexibility. I have already ordered a Nexus 6P and i hope i am going to like it. I am only worried because it is bigger than my edge.
If its your first nexus you will love it, theres almost too much flexibility! Youll find yourself messing with everything lol. The only thing is you dont get the gimmicky stuff as much as you do with manufacturers like samsung and htc. Some people miss that. The size difference, thats another story and partially why I have held off until I can hold one and see in hand the difference. I had the LG G3 and that is about as big as I think I can comfortably go with a phone.
Last time i had a samsung was the note 2.. i hated that phone so much i traded it for a optimus g pro. loved that phone still have it today. i swore i wouldn't go back to samsung. then the s6 appeared. 64 bit cpu exynos was destroying the benchmarks. smaller more efficient cpu manufacturing, awesome screen, glass, metal. smaller more efficient battery and finally tw had less bloat.damn made me change my mind. i had to pre order....... i have hated this phone since month 3 of owning. i hate this samsung. cant wait to get rid of it. i gave my htc m8 for this crap. m8 never lagged like this pos and battery was better. and the phone seemed faster idk how or why. samsung made me hate samsung. so yeah im getting a nexus just can't decide which. waiting on the reviews. not making the same mistake of pre ordering
Yeah man I know, that's why I skipped the s5. I've owned the sgs2, Samsung galaxy nexus, Sgs3, and sgs4. I got in on the sgs4 while there was still a bootloader exploit, however once i saw they locked it down in a way where the later versions could only use safestrap I was like, no way will I ever come back to Sammy. Skipped the sgs5 and went with the LG G3 but was lured back by the specs on this phone!! Samsung always has the hardware I want in a phone, best cpu, great screen, good camera, couple cool little gimmicks to play with... but this allowing manufacturers to lock down bootloader and essentially kill the dev scene is really pissing me off. I have always bought my wife HTC phones when I upgrade because I can never decide between 2 phones, her m8 still running as smooth as day she got it, I didn't even unlock and rom it like I usually do. I just cannot find the perfect storm of cutting edge specs that I want and development to go with. Sucks!!!

The reasons I like Samsung phones is their hardware. Great camera, screens, better memory configurations, and lately the design of the phone. If all that was put into the nexus then it'd be an easy decision. Unfortunately the nexus lacks that. Idk what my next phone is going to be after this debacle.
