Sorry to hear that. He must have gotten to recovery somehow and wiped everything. The easiest way is to flash a new rom from usb storage, much easier than sideloading (need drivers, etc). And next time better add a lock code [emoji6]

Can you get to recovery? If not than probably your kid flashed a gsm rom and the partitions got messed up. If so, look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2503646

I have an HTC Vivid that was rooted with ICS that I attempted to S-OFF with the wire trick. Apparently my timing was never right because it didn't work. It would get to the point where is says its still sober... I tried about 10 times then all of a sudden it says phone not found or something. I then noticed that my phone was no longer being recognized by my cpu. I have tried everything. Multiple SD cards multiple usb cables with no luck. My phone was stuck on the boot screen then I loaded a PH39IMG file that wiped everything and took me back to GB. My phone still cannot connect to any of the 6 cpus (Vista/windows 7) in my home even after installing multiple drivers for HTC and PDANET. HELP any way to make my phone work with my cpu? It only charges when connected to cpu. Also any one have a PH39IMG for ICS? every link on XDA is expired

no only the factory recovery as I stated before the wire trick froze the phone and I had to use a PH39IMG from my sdcard that had the original gingerbread stock rom that the phone shipped with.
So are you on the gingerbread one now? If you are you can just root and flash a recovery on that. I think there is a zip that let's you update on here too

I have owned several htc android devices dating back to the g1 and I never had to hot wire a phone until now... that was my brother's phone I told him to get the skyrocket way back when he first bought his vivid on launch day but ah well... I can't give you a photo because he now has the phone. the blue tab is right beside the usb/charger port above the pin that you use to do the wire trick.

For the record..and even tho I get the feeling there's a troll in our midst..I'll offer one piece of advice: the PAC ROM has had the SD mount issue fixed for awhile now. My recommendation? Flash the PAC ROM.. then go be happy. Being rude won't get you any positive feedback in these forums. You take all responsibility when using software found on xda. If you don't fully understand what's happening..use Google and read..read..read.. and if that doesn't shed any light for you on the subject..maybe custom ROMs are something you should just not try to mess with.

Hey MG, thanks for the advice. I had the same problem earlier today, and tried TWRP. Fixed it right up. I finally got brave enough to root and rom my HTC Vivid yesterday, and between SD Card Problems and Wi-Fi problems I had begun to think I'd made the wrong choice. I've rooted and rom'ed phones before, but almost never my daily driver. This was my daily driver, so again thanks! And OP the link for TWRP is teamw.in/project/twrp go there have your friend follow instructions precisely, and all will be ok. And friend... chill... it's nothing to get po'ed about. As a note the fastboot was the easiest method for me... and quicker too. If you don't know about fast boot look around on the forums and there's some great info about it. Cheers!:highfive:
btw sorry for no direct links... I'm still an XDA Forum Noob

Not really a helpful response.. I'm quite aware it says that, as I've already stated that in my original post. Once I have flashed the rom and other file, do I flash the boot.img file before or after restarting the phone?

Internal SD Card recognized but will not mount!
Hey,
I recently rooted my HTC Vivid (ATT) and installed CyanogenMod version 10-20131006-NIGHTLY-holiday. Everything works fine but I cant get the internal sd card to mount. There is an option in the storage setting that say "mount internal sd card." When I press that it appears as if it is mounting then it Apps, Pictures, videos, Audio(music, ringtone..... etc. Almost right after you press that it goes back to the mount sd card button. I have flashed the boot.img, used the terminal emulator and still have the same problem! I would really really (and just to drive it home) REALLY appreciate it if someone would help me with this!
If you need more info or would like to contact me to help me just email me at [email protected]
You can also just message me here if you wish.

so when you boot to recovery, what does it say? Is it TWRP, CWM, WCX?
In all likelihood, you've lost the data on your internal storage. Rignfool has posted a fix for this issue countless times, and a quick forum search should come up with a topic where he outlines how to fix it. It involves mounting your phone via the recovery, and letting your windows computer fix/format the internal SD.

Its WCX. Sorry to be so naive but I looked and could not find Regnfool's post. Could you send a link to a few of them? I dont know if this helps but what I want to fix is the apps that use the sd card. Some apps that I know stored info on the sd card on my stock rom will work but are reset after I am finished using them. So bassically apps with save data half work due to this issue. Once again this is the first time I have ever rooted and installed a ROM so im a "rookie" just needing help.

Not a problem! It's an issue a lot of people (including me) have run into while doing stuff. Just count yourself lucky your charge port was working! (mine was not at the time, and was much more of a headache).
I'm an amateur ROM flasher and I usually get around a problem after a few hours of messing around with the device and forums but I am absolutely stumped by this one. After unsuccessfully trying to flash a few roms, I decided to restore my phone back to what it was because I backed it up only a few hours before. All it would load is a black screen with the status bar showing the time and no signal, sometimes allowing me to slide to unlock to my saved launcher with still a black background. Not only would it never get reception, it would reboot within two minutes. This cycled until the battery would die. I ended up deleting everything on the device itself in attempt to fix something, not thinking I would delete my back ups and then my ability to ever get my phone past bootloader or recovery. I can still do fastboot commands and change the recovery, but besides that, it's a brick. Any kind of help would mean the world, thanks!

It's not a brick until nothing lights up our charges. And since there is no sd slot, that's out. You have access to recovery, you're fine. Download a stable Rom and just like fastboot, do an adb push of the Rom like suggested above. Wipe data, caches, and format system before flashing. No worries. All its not lost.

Any of those adb commands results only with "error: device not found"
This may not be a fix for HTC phones, but on Samsung devices, I've had to uninstall and reinstall drivers several times. Do and uninstall, run a registry cleaner, reboot pc, reinstall drivers, reboot, and try adb again. I used to do that every so often with my Samsung devices that wouldn't be properly detected by my pc. It usually fixed my problem.

No offense meant, but that information really needs to be in the first post. It could have made things significantly easier. We also really need to know what ROMs you were trying, because the problems you'r edescribing vaguely sound like you've flashed a GSM ROM somewhere along the line by accident, in which case you will need to RUU (and most of the guides are unfortunately pretty Windows-centric).

No offense taken. Unfortunately, a Mac is all I'm able to use at the moment. I'm trying to run CleanRom from the sprint htc one development section of this site, so I'm fairly certain it should work. My main problem right now is that using adb commands my phone is not recognized. Using fastboot, though, works absolutely fine to do whatever I need and recognizes my device. I've tried using twrp and clockworkmod recovery touch to sideload any zip file and just won't work. All it says after trying that is "failed to open driver control: no such file or directory".
Please do tell me if any other information would help you help me faster. I don't frequent forums so I'd imagine I'm quite frustrating to work with.
Anybody have any idea?
Hey guys
So here's the thing: my friends phone is stuck in a boot loop, when powered on it just showes the htc
i can flash a new rom and anything but here's the problem: Is there anyway to access the phones contacts before erasing everything??
i can't think of anything, if i touch it (like unlock the boot loader through dev centre for flashing) its gonna wipe everything.
unfortunally the phones not backed up on google either.
Thanks
