Unknown Sources Setting Gone - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

I was wanting to install a non-market app, so when I went to my security settings the "unknown sources" setting was gone. I suspect it was when I allowed Google's android device manager to be a device administrator. Since then I've uninstalled android device manager. Is there any way to get that setting back without doing a factory reset?

Are you using Cerberus or another antitheft program? That was the only time I lost unknown sources...
Sent from my Vivid 4G using Tapatalk

The android device manager is a built in anti theft app. At least part of it is. You still have to download it from the play store. But the device administrator option for it is there before you do. As soon as I enabled it as a device administrator the setting to install unknown sources and the device administrator setting was gone.

Non google play installs fail

I am running the latest officialrelease of ICS 4.0.4 on my GN, the one that was made available OTA two days ago or so
I tried updating my installed Tasker software.this is the version that was sold outside the market. In tasker one can go to Settings/more and download the latest, it then calls the install tool.
The install tool starts, shows the required permissions etc, and then offers two buttons "install" and "cancel".
The install button is not reacting at all.
I have the same issue with other apps downloaded outside the market (pimlical)..
Of course the security option allowing external apps to be installed us activated.if I turn that if the install tool won't even start.
So what makes that install button block? There us no visual indication of an issue, no error message our such..
Had anyone seen this and has a to on how to solve this?

Did you enable "Unknown Sources" ?
Settings, Security, Other sources.
Above is translated from Swedish so that may not be the exact words.
It happen to me also. I only reboot the phone and it went fine again.

Remove the previous version and install the latest version again. it should work...
what is the error message you get....if it says ( an application with the same name and signature exist)
then unistall the old version of tasker and download the new version from the website u downloaded the earlier ver.. and install again
you have a screenfilter app most likely running

Have the same issue. The only way I get around it is to close as many apps as possible with a task killer until the install happens. One of my installed apps is causing the problem but haven't been able to pin down which one.

[Q] F'd up

So I f'd up my phone using Lucky patcher, not exactly sure what the exact cause is but any Google app/service is screed. I can't sign into my account so I've lost (play store, gmail, YouTube unless I unlink my acct. Etc.) I should probably mention that I'm on kitkat slapmymoto. I unlinked my Google acct uninstalled/wiped data from all Google apps, rebooted and tried to reinstall everything. Installs work fine but relinking my Google acct will not take. "Problem communicating with Google servers" is the error message I get. Is there a possible fix or a way to do a fresh install of kitkat rooted? Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Android Sdk platform tools, put your phone in fast boot mode plug it into your CPU, open a cmd window in platform tools (right click and shift makes it easy) remember Google search is your friend. Wait you already used fastboot to get your fast boot unlocking code
So you do know how to use it?

Sorry just realized you used slapmymoto, Google android SDK , within platform tools you will see a fastboot exe file, just right click and shift at the same time and a window will pop up with open up a cmd window here.
Put your phone into fastboot mode and plug it in and within the cmd window type in fastboot erase userdata. If it works it will erase everything and you should be able to boot normally

Went with option #1 and did rsd back to stock. Can't do anything right today....im back to 4.2 and trying to root using rockmymoto is not working(getting stuck on Cydia Impactor/Puttytel step. Not sure what im doing wrong. I do telnet in cydia and it works but as soon as it says "Waiting to complete it goes back to the options window and i have to restart....tried to time it with puttytel and i get the error from there that says "Network errorermission Denied"
EDIT: Somehow after rebooting my PC everything ran smoothly...kinda weird but hey ill take it!

[Q] Can't sign in to google after update while rooted

Hey guys. I'm having some trouble here. As the title says I can't sign in to google. My phone was rooted and it performed an update without me doing it. Not sure how it happened. Have only been on android for about a year. Before the update my gmail app stopped syncing. He regular email app would still work though. Then the update happened and I lost my root. Everything worked fine for about two weeks. Yesterday my google play store started with the "no connection-retry" error. Today I decided to try a master reset. After the reset if cannot sign in to google on my phone using the gmail app, play store sign in, or settings>accounts. However the email app still works. I can sign in fine online. Did the update with root screw up my google account on my phone. My sister was able to sign in to my google account on her S3. Could I maybe re-root it or something? Any guidance would be awesome. Thanks so much in advance.
To add to my post I tried to sign in to my wife's google account on my phone and same thing. "Can't establish a reliable connection to the server". Lastly, I tried to create a new account on my phone and it says the name is not available. I have a unique last name and I know these names I tried are not taken. Thanks.

Thanks for the idea. Tried it straight away. Nothing. I'm wondering if Knox is doing this. Maybe have to flash to a room with no Knox
Downloaded Kingo to root, which is what I used before, and its not working now. It keeps popping up the "An application has been forced to stop for an unauthorized attempt to access system in your device." error. Here is all my info on the phone:
Device Name: SAMSUNG-SM-N900A
Model number: SAMSUNG-SM-N900A
Android Version: 4.3
Baseband Version: N900AUCUBNB4
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-1625098 [email protected] #1 Mon Feb 10 21:13:28 KST 2014
Build number: jss15j.n900aucubnb4
SELinux status: Enforcing
Same exact issue here except kingo tells me "no support"

where can i find an older version? I can only find 1.2
Found 1.1.5 and it actually did work. Thanks.
Hey guys. Found a solution to everything! As mrkhigh stated, the older version of kingo worked perfectly. Then I flashed Azurerom five using safestrap and it bypassed whatever error goggle was sending back to my phone. I was able to sign in to google and have full access to everything. The only down side is Azure doesn't have Samsung account. So any contacts you have tied to your Samsung account you will not be able to get.

Android Pay and Root/Custom recovery

So I got Android Pay today and it looks like it will not work on a stock TOUCHWIZ ROM. Had anyone had any luck using it?
After taking a quick look at what it is needs to verify your phone I'm not sure if we'll ever work on a rooted device.

I've had no luck
I tried:
1.) rootcloak - fail after card setup
2.) no device check - failed before card setup
3.) disabling su - failed after card setup
Still no luck

Stock rom, N910T3
Running unofficial CM 12.1 and no dice, Work at Wholefoods and I have been using Wallet for a while now. Pretty annoyed that I can't even downgrade my google services and get the older Wallet NFC app and why did they decide to split it into 2 apps instead of just one?
Meh....
For the Note 4 (N910T), I had Tekxodus Rom URv5. Wouldn't work. Even tried disabling SU, Changing DPI, RootCloak, etc NO LUCK! However, i decided to get the stock rooted/debloated/deodexed rom - N910TUVU1COG2.
1. Backed up my current rom using TB.
2. Flash N910TUVU1COG2 rom (https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347790828)
3. At first boot and setup, immediately disabled SU, and setup Lock Pin.
4. Installed Google Play Services 8.1.14_(2244331-238)-8114238-minAPI21.
5. Installed Android Pay 1.0.103131485
6. Open Android Pay and verified card.
7. Re-Enabled SU.
8. Restore Apps using TB.
Hope this helps.
The old wallet app works better and supports more cards
REAL bad experience with No Device Check (Xposed) on rooted N7100 Note 2, stock rom, 4.4.2.
Installed it, rebooted and immediately I noticed that all of my apps that require root had disappeared from not only the main screen but from the app drawer.
Thought that I would freeze it but Ti Backup wasn't there.
Went into App Manager and tried to uninstall but it would not uninstall.
Wanted to restart into recovery mode but the options were missing... just the option to restart which did not work. The phone would not restart.
Did a full shut down and restarted into recovery the conventional way and luckily got into TWRP and did a recovery. Thankfully I did a backup last night.
Before doing a recovery, I worked on the phone from a 99% charge down to 11%, so I spent some time with it.
One funny thing though, while going through all of this, I got an update to Android Pay and my camera app.
Right after that update, I opened AP and it wanted the code on the back of the card so I tapped the field and the keyboard didn't come up and that's when I decided to do the recovery from TWRP.
BTW, over the last few days I tried all of the above suggestions and none have worked but haven't tried them again after the update to Android Pay. I think that for the time being I'll just play it safe and whip out the plastic.
so basically you can't use a customized rom

Android pay is working. However I believe that may change with the next update of the Android pay app. Most likely not until the new year.

Trojan Virus detected in Notes app

Malwarebytes detected this today at the first run. Anyone else who can confirm this?
That app is fine on my phone, as per malwarebytes.
which version of the rom do you have, and where did you get your phone from?
Interestingly, my Iqiyi app is being picked up, and my phone was stock 8.0.10.0 (I had done an OTA update).
I uninstalled the app.
I'm on the latest EU Beta, rooted and TWRP'd.
Malwarebytes doesn't like USB debugging, but no issues with any of the apps.
Cheers
