LTE and UMTS not usable - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello together,
some of the preinstalled apps from Samsung are not necessary for me and they are needing too much memory. So my goal was it to root the phone and uninstall the dispensable apps. At the end (after rooting and installing new firmwares - I am a beginner) the S4 active works almost well. The problem is, I cannot use UMTS and LTE anymore. I read a lot about the Modem-Pack, the modem.bin and non-hlos.bin files, but nothing works. I can only use GSM/EDGE and WiFi.
My provider is T-Mobile Germany and I bought a branded phone from T-Mobile in 2013.
I tried to make a complete reset but also with no positiv result. And a warranty exchange is also no longer possible because of "Knox Warranty Void".
Could it be a hardware defect or do I make mistakes while flashhing the modem? Please help me... LTE contracts are stupid and too expensive without a LTE phone!
I used:
# Odin3 v3.07
# I9295XXUBMK3_I9295DTMBMK1_I9295XXUBMK3_HOME.tar
# Modem-Pack-V3.0

[Q] Is AT&T 3G on T-Mobile Possible?

I have tried to search the forums for answers, but I keep finding a lot of non-definitive results (and many reference FAQs for the Galaxy S phone).
I have a T-Mobile Galaxy tab that is running stock T-Mobile Firmware. I also have an active AT&T SIM card via my job.
I have unlocked my tab and created a custom APN that allows me to use the AT&T SIM on EDGE.
I understand that AT&T and T-Mobile use different frequency bands for their 3G, but I am unsure if these frequencies are completely unavailable on opposing characters or if they are just disabled in firmware/software.
Is there a modem.bin (or other firmware) that will allow we to flash a T-Mobile Galaxy Tab and use an AT&T SIM for 3G? If so, is there a firmware to revert it back if there are issues?
I don't really care about voice (at the moment) but it would be nice to use the unlimited AT&T 3G card instead of paying month-to-month with T-Mobile.
Why dont you unlock and try? I know rotohammer posted instructions on how to unlock. He also posted a complete package to flash to stock.
NO, it's not possible!

Do'h!
Is is a hardware or a software issue? i.e. can I ever hope that someone might figure out how to do this?
I have only had my tab for about a week; If it is never I may re-consider returning and purchasing one on from AT&T...
clubtech posted the modem.bin for AT&T here.

If you're willing to test it, please let us know how it goes! I'm interested, but I'm scared that AT&T will screw up my current plan. They've done it before - swapped from iPhone 3GS to Palm Pre Plus, then back to iPhone 3GS - found out they switched to unlimited data, and didn't work on my iPhone. I had to call to have them switch back to an iPhone data plan.
Also scary - stuck a dumb phone SIM into my iPhone -automatically added iPhone data plan.
I'm grandfathered into the unlimited iPhone data plan, and don't want to risk it.

You can create a custom APN profile and use almost any AT&T SIM in an iPhone. Get on WiFi with your iPhone, and open http://www.unlockit.co.nz/.
My AT&T work SIM is for a blackberry, but I have been using it with my current and prior iPhones with no issues (I have helped a few others in my office do this as well).
I am hoping to be able to do the same with my Galaxy Tab.
Thanks for the link. I will try the modem.bin in a bit- and may even go and do a full-blown AT&T firmware at one point-but I am trying to make sure I have a chance (i.e. the radio frequencies are available) and a way to backout if there are issues.

The thing that scares me is that AT&T actually messes with your plans according to the device you stick your SIM in. Now that's BS, because if I ever want to stick it in another phone to test it out, then put it back in my iPhone, I may loose my unlimited data plan and end up with the 5GB data plan. They don't offer unlimited anymore. I'm grandfathered in.
Before they took it out, I was able to swap devices willy nilly. They were able to switch from plan-t0-plan, and I don't care because I can always get back to the plan I wanted. Not any more!
Let me know how it goes. I'm interested in flashing mine, but not sure how to go about it.
Well, curiosity got the best of me, and I put in my iPhone 4 SIM into the Tmo Tab. It works! Just make sure you have the APN set up correctly. Edge only. I have no idea how to flash the modem.bin file. I'd like to find a way to back up my Tmo modem.bin first before I try the AT&T one.
Nope I've tried *#2263# and changing the apn modem.bin still got edge.
I went ahead and tried a few things- and here is what happened.
I flashed with the EU firmware and the Bell Modem (via the RU firmware and repartitioning) and ended up only getting a GSM signal (wow- that make me nostalgic of my old Nokia 3650 days).
I messed with it for a while and eventually flashed the AT&T stock firmware. With this I was able to get EDGE, but the whole system was buggy- such as the startup screen was blank until it completed and I pressed the power button.
I trief to re-flash with T-Mobile stock firmware and I was stuck in EDGE; no 3G available.
I tried to re-flash with T-Mobile stock again and I totally bricked the unit (note: don't rename the folder containing the firmware while you are in the process of flashing!). It was uber-dead; it wouldn't power on, no recovery mode, connecting to a PC didn't detect any device and the charger wouldn't even light up when I plugged it in.
I ended up returning it to T-Mobile as I had only had it for about a week. They gave me a credit minus a $10 restocking (called post activation) fee. I may look around to see if I can find an AT&T Samsung after the holidays...

Ouch! yea, you wouldn't want to change the name of the folder you're flashing from. >_<
For those who flashed their Tmo Tabs wth the AT&T modem.bin file and still getting only Edge, did you make sure you're set to connect to GSM and WCDMA?
When I inserted my Tmo SIM back in after playing around with AT&T, I also had Edge only. I found out that I left it on GSM only. Doh! Set it back to GSM and WCDMA, and I got my 3G back.
I'm hoping that's the small detail that is preventing Tmo Tab users who flashed to the AT&T modem.bin.
I still haven't found the instructions to flash the modem.bin though. All the guides I found are about flashing entire ROMs with the modem.bin, not just the modem.bin itself with the stock (but rooted) Tmo ROM. Otherwise, I'd try it myself. Also would like to know how to back up my current modem.bin before I start experimenting.
On a positive note, AT&T hasn't messed with my granfathered unlimited iPhone data plan yet. *cross fingers* Makes me feel more confident to try it again on my Tmo Tab.
Has anyone succeeded in getting both data and voice? I have an iphone unlimited data plan and a t-mo tab.
Where are you guys getting the ATT rom from and what .pit file are you using.
I am trying to go back to the ATT rom but it boots blank after trying a couple posted here.
Thanks
I too have a tmobile SGT and I would very much like to use it on at&t 3g. I have sadly yet to have found a definitive answer as to whether or not the hardware is capable of doing so? Shouldn't it be a simple matter of flashing the at&t modem.bin onto the tab so that it can handle the appropriate 3g frequencies?
please advise!
Definitely NO. Hardware is not compatable. There are many definite answers, and a few idiots. The radio frequencies don't match, and no rom or modem file can change that.

[Q] Need Help: Using In Japan

Hello. I posted this yesterday in the Nexus S forum (I have an S, not a One) but no one seems to know the answer so I was wondering if perhaps someone here could help out, as the Nexus One has been out for some time now.
In a nutshell, I would like to know how in the world I can get my unlocked Nexus S to work in Japan with respect to data transmission.
Early this year I developed an interest in foreign smartphones as all we had here in Japan was the (IMHO) horrid Xperia X10 and the wonderful HTC Desire. I have purchased a number of phones from overseas (either Hong Kong or the UK) including:
HTC Mini (HK)
HTC Desire (HK)
Xperia X2 (UK)
Galaxy S (UK)
Galaxy Tab (UK)
Nexus S (USA)
Now here's the thing: ALL of these phones were unlocked yet NONE of them allowed any data transmission except the HTC Mini. To this day I fail to understand why.
When I got the HTC Mini, I was using the Mopera U APN/service. I put my Docomo SIM card into the Mini and without doing anything at all, it had data connectivity from the start. To this day I question if it was something related to Windows Mobile, as all of the other phones I listed above are Android (except for the X2).
I had Mopera U with all of these other phones and yet NONE of them work, even after I have tried multiple APN services and have manually typed in the APN settings (i.e. mpr2.bizho.net, spmode.ne.jp, mopera.flat.foma.ne.jp, etc).
Just yesterday I received my unlocked Nexus S from the USA and while it hardly came as a surprise, I am nonetheless infuriated once again that the phone refuses to connect to the wireless network.
It should be noted however that the very first time I attempted to connect the Nexus S to the mpr2.bizho.net APN, for a scant one second, the 3G data transmission icon appeared in the taskbar at the top of the screen, but then immediately disappeared. Since that initial setting, it has never reappeared when I toggle the APN.
Can anyone please offer some advice here? I fail to believe that there is absolutely no way to use this phone in Japan. With all the different network bands and whatnot supported by this phone, surely it has to work. I am still at a loss as to why the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab failed to connect to the network here when both are in fact, available for purchase domestically. Are the manufacturers actually creating modified band phones for each country despite making the same exact product?
Docomo is absolutely no help whatsoever, claiming that the ONLY band supported here is "3G" and denying any understanding of the other band spectrums (i.e. Quad Band GSM, Tri-Band HSPA, etc).
Some of the IT-related people I know have suggested that my phone is in fact, NOT unlocked and thus the problem stems from that, however considering that the phone will instantly register the NTT DOCOMO network and I can make calls and receive SMS messages, I fail to believe the phone is locked.
I will bring up a point that a friend passed onto me: They suggested that perhaps my problem is that the phone won't work because the previous carrier settings are still on it. The seller on eBay however stated that this was a factory unlocked phone and thus I don't think this applies, though I was a bit confused as to why there was a T-Mobile SIM card inside the Nexus S box, which led me to believe that perhaps the phone is unlocked but it is "defaulted" to T-Mobile network values?
Anyway if anyone could be of some assistance here I would greatly appreciate it.
You seem to know your stuff -- so I'm baffled as to why this isn't working for you.
You're armed with the Docomo APN and authentication, as well as compatible hardware. NTT Docomo (as well as SoftBank) operate 3G/UMTS/HSDPA on 2100Mhz, which your Nexus S supports.
Each year I visit family, I get a rental SIM, get the spiel that loaner SIMs aren't allowed to be used in smartphones (might have changed now). So they give me a phone instead, which I just rip the SIM out of and place in my phone.
I doubt your previous carriers' info would be interfering, since I'm guessing the only entry you have under operators is Docomo (and removed every other carrier), and you have your FOMA SIM inserted.
The only thing I can think of are: your HTC Mini's passing some authentication type handshake (or maybe it's a parameter or setting its' flipping), or the network has some strange blanket ban on IMEI numbers.
Both scenarios are pretty unlikely -- which brings me back to me being baffled. I was able to rip out a SIM and use in a Nokia E51 and an HP iPaq 910 (a handset not sold in Japan). I just entered in some APN settings and it was happy as pigs in ****.
I'm sorry I don't have anything more to offer -- but from what you said, and you are correct -- this should work.
This might sound obvious : Sometimes, Android will have a database built in with APN settings and will use those. Sometimes, It'll read the settings off of the SIM, and use those. Some cases, the auto-selected values might be incorrect if the carrier changed something on their end. Or sometimes, it might not do anything at all. You might have already tried this -- find a working handset (HTC Mini, friend, demo unit in a store, etc), write the settings down and enter them in by hand on your Nexus S. If you've already tried this, I apologize.

[Q] Possible to use Samsung Vibrant on AT&T *without* data plan?

Hello XDA! After numerous searches and lots of contacting my local psychics, I've still been unable to find the answer to life's #1 question:
If I buy and unlock a T-Mobile/Samsung Vibrant, I know I can use it on AT&T. However, if AT&T has IMEIs on file for the device, it will be detected and upgraded to a data plan (thanks AT&T). Since the Vibrant is part of the GS line, does anyone know if the Vibrant will be detected as a smartphone?
Thanks in advance for any help!
EDIT: and this thread was no help and in the wrong place.
A wee bit late...
I'm a wee bit late, but if anyone wants to know:
I've had my Vibrant for a bit now, and so far, no upgrade. I'll keep this thread updated if I do get upgraded, though.
Dd you just put the at&t sim card in the unlock vibrant? Or do I have to disable the data connection to prevent at&t to detect the device? And does MMS works without data plan on vibrant? Thanks in Advance.
Sorry, but I don't use MMS at all. I have data turned off both at the phone and at AT&T, but if I understand correctly MMS should work and data should not get you detected (other than using excess data).
Samsung Vibrant on AT&T phone only plan
I have a Vibrant I use on AT&T with plain phone service only & enjoy the Android world in Wi-Fi areas. I have "Mobile Networks - data enabled" turned off in setting so it does not use any of AT&T precious data. I am not sure if this is in stock phone program or not, I have custom ROM installed. Every time I update my phone with a new ROM I make sure I do not have the SIM card in until I have the data turned off because the ridiculous fee for pay by use. Anyway I logged onto AT&T and set my phone to a dumb phone on their list of phones, waited a few days, and called AT&T. All they could quote to me on the Vibrant phone with their SIM card in was it was a "non AT&T branded phone". I got data removed no problem but did require a phone call - unable to do online. This has worked well.

[Q] Samsung T849 T-Mobile USA - GSM Dialer, Gingerbread, unbrand, use 3G outside USA

Hello,
I have here a great working Samsung Galaxy T849 Tab from T-Mobile USA.
It is unlocked already and I can use it with a SIM different from T-Mobile USA
It is not yet rooted.
Now here is what I would like to do (like most of you years before):
I would like to enable the dialer for making GSM calls.
I would also like to have an unbranded Firmware without the T-Mobile logo and the custom apps which are preinstalled (I read a European firmware will do).
Of course I would like to have an Android Gingerbread version (2.3.3 or 2.3.6) instead of the current Froyo (2.2).
I know the Tab is very similar to the P1000, actually it says:
Modell number: SGH-Z849
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband Version: P1000XXJK5
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build number: FROYO.UVJJB
Click to collapse
I got the P1000XWJQ8_P1000DBTJQ1_DBT firmware from sammobile.com (samfirmware.com) or I can download any other P1000 Gingerbread firmware from there.
I think the modem (GSM/3G) is different from the P1000.
Can the T849 use an internet connection faster than 3G EDGE (like 3.5G up to 3.6/7.2 Mb/s) outside the USA?
Can I simply use the mentioned P1000 firmware with Odin or will I brick my Tablet?
All posts I found about the T849 are very old and most links and downloads do not work anymore.
I was not able to find a z4root.1.3.0.apk which will root my device.
The web page of Team Overcome is dead for years. Their downloads seem not available anymore.
Please help!
Yes, I am on T849 now running AOKP JB. Our tab is the same as P1000 and more. Our modem/radio support more bands.
I used to run overcome ROM. In Australia.
I can make phone calls and have 3G data.
Follow my signature for new overcome link and guides.
Jump to page 7 of the guide.
Forget about rooting/backup, just flash away.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda app-developers app
Hello,
thank you for your fast answer.
Your link in your signature will even lead me to a Android 4.1.0. !!!???
I would have been happy with a 2.3.x solution.
Will this very advanced Android version work on our "slow" single-core Tabs in a proper and fast way?
The Cortex A8 with its 1GHz speed is really a fast processor (I think the fastest mobile single-core) but won't Android 4.1.0 slow it down?
Important for anybody in the future who will read this thread:
Please pay special attention to page 8 of 15 of the mentioned PDF-manual.
Please chose the correct "modem.bin" file corresponding to your modem-hardware (Europe, North America, South America etc.).
Once overcome kernel is in, you have clockworkmod recovery. You can flash all the way to android 4.2.2
Try out and find out for how good are they for yourself.
For modem, JPZ is almost always the best one outside USA.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Oh, thanks again.
So I will have Android 2.3.6 with the update, not a 4.x.x version.
Only the Kernel is 4.1.1.
I got this wrong before
Now my T849 is branded T-Mobile and from the USA.
I will use it outside the USA (Europe and Asia) and the 3G/3.5G signal is here on 2100 MHz as I found out on my old 3G Router Huawei B200W.
Will the T849 support the 2100 MHz 3G frequency after an update?
So far I got only EDGE speed.
So I have the modem options:
JPZ
T-Mobile
Will the JPZ work with my hardware?
I did firmware updates before with Odin (Galaxy S 2 from Gingerbread to Jelly Bean; Wave II from Bada 1 to Bada 2; Galaxy Young - now on 2.3.6) but the work was not so complex so I am better safe than sorry.
JPZ should give you HSDPA at 2100Mhz.
If not, there are modem from the Captivate that works, but huge battery drain.
The overcome Rom is called series 7 4.1
But it is GB 2.3.5
What I meant is after that you can flash CM9/10/10.1 or AOKP or anything you wish.
I am on AOKP JB 4.2.2 but it is unreleased yet. I am one of the tester.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Wow, this is all amazing news!
Once I have it back I will try it out, Gingerbread is great!
I can get the tab for around US$ 80,- in a perfect running condition as I was able to test it for two days.
Small excursus:
Android 4.x is great with extra features as I know from my Galaxy S 2 (R.I.P.) but since I got the first 4.0.x version on it I got a new mainboard one year ago and now, one week after flashing 4.1.1 (or was it 4.1.2?) the main board is dead again. They say in the service center it was overheated.
I did not do anything but surfing and some music from time to time. The board will coast US$ 240,- , three times the price for this used tab
I won't have it fixed since the warranty is expired. Maybe I can sell the display "as new" since it is also the second one.
Didn't have good luck with the GS2 :crying:
There is no hardware problem with the old Froyo and Gingerbread phones / tabs here in the family / friends.
was ingVas
Hello!
Here is my positive feedback!
It worked fine and now I have Android 2.3.3 on my T849.
Calling and receiving calling works now - even though this did not right away?
Can send and receive SMS /texts.
The T-Mobile branding is gone.
As I think (see screen-shot) I should have the Overcome Kernel now. The installation in the recovery was aborted but it is there!?
So far I can use only EGDE (up tp 384 kbp/s) for data connection, the 2100 MHz seems not to work (with JPZ modem (see screen-shot)).
I have seen P1000 / T849 running Android Jelly Bean on ebay.com today! (maybe get another Tab for my wife)
I will try to contact the owners.
Thanks again, priyana!
PS: there was NO need to root the Tab. The instruction was a little bit confusing in this point and I spent some time finding info about how to root it.
Gingerbread was / is really a big step compared to Froyo Android, was naver aware of this until I found out this week (new keyboard, stock browser especially).
what network are you using?
Could be due to wrong APN settings that you are not getting 3G.
And BTW, the Overcome Kernel is installed via Odin.
Whatever you tried to flash and aborted "from recovery" couldn't have been overcome kernel.
Yeah, no need rooting and checking bootloader etc.
That is why in my original reply:
"Jump to page 7 of the guide.
Forget about rooting/backup, just flash away."
Hello again,
I am in the Philippines.
I use Globe and Smart, these are the main providers here.
In "GSM only" on the tab I have signal, I can call/text and have a (slow) internet connection with the data package activated.
In "WCDMA only" I have NO SIGNAL AT ALL, showing no bars for the signal only the circle with the line.
So: no call, no text, no internet.
Internet - faster than EDGE - is is here the Philippines only on 2100 MHz,
I have tried this with my 3G browser.
Regarding to the official Samsung page the T839 does not have access to the 2100 MHz:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab/SGH-T849ZKATMB-specs
Frequencies and Data Type GSM: 850/900/1800/1900
Data Speed GPRS/EDGE
Click to collapse
I have read some other threads here in xda-developers: some were successful, some not.
Maybe they built in different hardware and mine really does not support anything faster than EDGE.
For no I can live with this.
Anyway I have currently network issues with messages (the Tab is fine, my wife does not get my texts on the same network for a week now, when I send a text to her other phone which is the other network she gets it right away).
Maybe I will try flashing other modems which I find here.
Well, not saying that your link is inaccurate.
Just that it is incomplete.
It shows the GSM/EDGE freq but not the UMTS (3G) freq.
This one shows it has 2100MHz
http://www.allabouttablet.com/tablets/samusng-tablet-specs/galaxy-tab-7-t-mobile-sgh-t849_3661.html
but not a Samsung official link.
Pretty sure (I own one T849 too) that it can do 2100MHz UMTS.
Edit: linking you to one post that is not to do with Galaxy Tab, but about APNs for The Phillipines:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14708346&postcount=15
Coming closer to success!
I have now the original European (German) Firmware 2.3.6 XWJQ8 from sammobile.com.
(Sorry for kicking out your ROM for now, might go back later since YOUR Rom and Kernel seem more stable :good:
This XWJQ8 definitely has the European modem (also for here).
Then I changed to "WCDMA" and in this mode I restarted the Tab.
After reboot I got "gray" signal bars, meaning I am not in my network but it said "Emergency call only"
So technically we come closer.
I went to the front site of the house and I was able to register on my network.
Unfortunately I was not yet able to make calls in WCDMA and I didn't get an "E" or "3G" or "H", "H+" or whatever even when switching on the paket data.
There is really a network issue right now here...
I can confirm now that the T849 is able to connect to the W2100 UMTS network outside the USA, I think this is usually the case for UMTS faster than EDGE.
I got a signal saying "H" and sometimes "H+" and the Speedtest was successful with a little bit slower than 1Mb/s.
I was also able to place calls in the WCDMA mode which seems to be an issue in other threads here in this forum.
Now I love my T849 / P1000 even more since I do not have to carry about two phones.
A bluetooth or normal headset will do but also the normal speaker is much better than any other phone on the market, what else does somebody need?
***
Off-topic: I was able to root it and got ride off many unneeded apps (my first root on a smart phones BTW).
ES File Explorer did an update from one day to the other so I was not able to reinstall some needed apps (orientation rotating did not work and the home /search button were disabled, OOPS).
Better choice is Titanium backup (free version will do).
The phone is now mostly custom made for me.
I also deleted all unnecessary ring tones and notification tones.

I'm in the U.S. with teh same model T849, (rooted via z4root). Like Der-mali, I am focused on getting GSM voice capability, but am also interested in an updated rom like ics or JB.
One of the primary reasons I grabbed the t-mobile version was for it's voice capability, but I was disappointed because I was under the impression I would be stuck with the overcome rom if I wanted to retain the voice capabilities. If I read your post right, overclock is a stepping stone for most (all?) of the gsm roms?
Does that also mean that most of the GSM roms have the dialer app, sms etc built in as well? That essentially, it will just be question of choosing the right t-mobile modem for use in teh U.S. and that most (all?) gsm roms are available to me without sacrificing gsm calling?
Sorry for the noob question, but I'm new to teh tab scene and trying to make sense of my options.
P.S. do you have any favorite roms (preferably JB, that support gsm voice/sms) that you'd recommend or have enjoyed using?
Please disregard this post since it is based on wrong assumption due to a misunderstanding (my fault!).
I do not want to confuse anybody new to this topic because of a failure that happended to me during my Overcome installation.
I will post the solution to my problem later.
GB-stock-safe-v5 is not overcome ROM.
It is Samsung JQ1 GB 2.3.3
Overcome Series 7 version 4.1 if I am not mistaken is a GB 2.3.6
Perhaps you only have gone as far as GB-stock-safe-v5 + Overcome Kernel?
That is not Overcome ROM at all.

P.S. do you have any favorite roms (preferably JB, that support gsm voice/sms) that you'd recommend or have enjoyed using?

You are correct. In fact, most ROMs, be it stock Samsung (except the North American version:TMo,AT&T, or Canadian telcos) or open source based, have dialers and SMS.
The next part is more confusing for you:
- the JJ3 or whatever stock Tmo modem for the tab, can let you do only 1 thing: 3G data at 1700MHz
- therefore even with Euro ROM, you can't make phone call. For that you need the JPZ modem. But JPZ modem won't support 3G at 1700MHz, you will only get 2G Edge speed.
- For us who are not in the USA, JPZ modem is good for us because we get voice call and 3G at 2100MHz.
- if you want to retain 3G and make voice call, you need a script to switch the modem and reboot.
One such script for GB ROM (so called BML ROM) is created by rotohammer. It is called roto modem switcher, you can find in in old threads here.
I have modified it to run in the new "MTD" ROM. let me know if you need it.
Having said all of that, I am not sure if the telco will detect that you are using a TAB and then: 1) don't let you make calls, 2) if you use phone SIM, don't let you access data.
All of those are telco's restrictions. Hope they don't affect you.
I now have the Overcome Rom on my T849 and I can confirm that it is GB 2.3.6. :good:
Most unneeded apps were already removed and I even removed more like SocialHub, DigitalFrame, ThinkOffice etc.
I think I will later place my own APKs into the respective app folder of the ROM so I can use it as a personal recovery.
I think what is long overdue is that "Market" should be replaced" with "PlayStore" APK. This applies for all ROMs on the "market".
I do not know at the moment if this is easily doable since there seem to be lots of dependencies for the PlayStore, I will have a look at it.

Something went wrong last time. That was this issue with not being able to install the ROM in the recovery mode I was talking about

I really appreciate the clarification/explanation, it gives my tab a whole new lease on life.

No worries on this one. I'm in the unenviable position of only having 2g coverage by t-mobile (even though verizon as well as AT&T has already rolled out 4G lte coverage here).
Maybe I'll keep an eye out for an at&t version of the tab. From browsing the "[HOW-TO] Flash your at&t Tab to make calls + 1900+850 WCDMA - UPDATED" thread it looks like modem rom and supported bands are a lot less problematic than t-mobile version (and in my case I'd have 3G).
Thanks Priyana for taking the time to help me out/walk me through the telephony issues, I appreciate it :good:

Looking forward to hearing if you were successful
There is a file called "gapps" here:
http://goo.im/gapps
You can copy this ZIP file into the internal SD card of your tab and install it from the recovery mode
(you should have the Overcome or a similar recovery kernel).
I have not done it for GB 2.3.6 but it works for the JB 4.2.2 version which I am currently using.
I would say GB 2.3.6 is better for the P1000, JB 4.2.2 got a very complex operation system for a "mobile computer" like our tabs.
More here:

Version as of 5 Apr 2013 is running very well, 25 Apr 2013 with the Kernel 3.x didn't work out for me (no external SD card, camera issues).

SM-N910T on T-Mobile USA in 2023?

I am contemplating purchase of one of these phones, and tried entering some of their IMEI numbers in the imei checker at https://www.t-mobile.com/resources/bring-your-own-phone , and was shocked to find they are ALL described as "Incompatible".
This is a bit confusing after the articles saying the AT&T and Verizon versions would not work after Jan 2021 but that the T-Mobile version would continue working. I tried looking for a later article saying that support for the T-Mobile version this model was being cancelled but could not find any such announcement.
Is that IMEI checker correct? Or is it because the samples I checked may not have gotten the last modem update installed from T-Mobile?
Is anyone still using this phone (specifically the T variant) on T-Mobile in USA? I'm assuming that last update will be important, but does this still work once it is installed?
If yes to the above, do phone calls work as VoLTE, or is it doing the fallback to 2G?
I've also seen threads about enabling more LTE bands, has anyone done that on this phone? In particular is it possible to add support for B71 (600MHz), or is this radio hardware just too old to allow that?
Thanks much, I would really like to know whether I can use this phone or if I would need to find a different model.
https://swappa.com/blog/3g-network-shutdown/ Your phone is fine.
SM-N910T with 2ETI1 OTA modem update works fine. 4g/LTE Data, WiFi Calling works. Does not drop out of 4G/LTE for voice. SM-N910V w/ MODestROM v11 (6.01 TW-based N910VVRU2CQI2 ) w/ a vzw 2CTI baseband update, has working 4gLTE data, but no WiFi Calling, or VoLTE (falls back to 2g, but I still have 2g coverage here, so it's usable, if not optimum. Here's the thing: on the VZW phone, if I set the the salescode to TMB, suddenly VoLTE works, but the Setup pages/menus/statusbar are screwed up, so it's not really useable. Here's where it gets REAL interesteing. On a VZW phone w/ VZW 2CTI1 baseband, & VZW BL, flashed with a custom TMB ROM (trltetmo_N910TUVU2EQI2_Stock_Deodexed, debloated, but still TW), EVERYTHING works. But it's not stable, it periodically loses 4g/lte. What it tells me is that the VZW h/w is NOT THE PROBLEM. I've been at this all day, everyday since VZW turned off CDMA on 01/01/23 and killed my service here. Be warned: If you go down this path, you're gonna be mostly on your own. A LOT of dead links, 'retired' devs, etc. Everyone except you, me, and three other people here have long since moved on from this awesome phone. I'll help you if I can. I bought an SM-N910T , but the damn usb port is dead. Already changed the charging board, not the problem. It's the mobo. If I could identify the usb chip (if it's not the 805 itself, I'd change it. So I have a phone with no adb that I can't unlock/root. I'd much rather get my VZW phone fully working on TMB, since I'm heavily invested in the MODestROM. Haven't given up yet. But search my posts, you'll hear the deafening silence, lol.
Seeing this forum has so little activity, on 1/21 I ended up getting a used Moto E6 (XT-2005-3 is a tmobile aka carrier unlocked MetroPCS version). While overall this is not as nice a device and has fewer features than Note 4, it does cover what for me are the essentials - removable battery, SD card slot, support for 5.8GHz wifi. Best of all, it supports B71 which will be helpful for, well, making phone calls!
I still ponder someday getting one of these as a hobby device, but that would be second place to the E6 for use as a phone, and won't be for a couple more months yet (too many expensive household issues are taking their toll on my "toy" budget right now).

Thank you, this was the part I needed to find out. With that in place, the only thing missing would be the B71 coverage but the E6 is already in place for that.
Re your Verizon adventures, I have no experience with any of that. What I read about T-Mobile dropping support for the verizon version in the last network update is all I know, and I don't have the skills to dispute what they say there. The best I could do is offer some links to threads on this forum but on double checking them it seems you've already been there and got no answers.
The only thing I see that might help you with that is if you could update just the t-mobile modem without disturbing the verizon bootloader. I see you tried that but it didn't stick when using Odin. I don't know if it would be any different using SmartSwitch that seemed to work for MarineWonder as he posted at https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...pgrade-on-jan-29th-2021.4224237/post-87464609 ?
Then again he may have been putting it on a t-mobile phone rather than mixing with the verizon bootloader so who knows?
My guess since it has been so problematic for you on the verizon phone is that you may need to only use a tmobile phone since that may be the only way to get the last t-mobile modem update. Bummer that the one you bought has a dead usb port. How are you charging it? Is there any chance you could return it to the seller since it came pre-broken? Then put the refund money toward another, hopefully working, tmobile phone? And would that MODestROM work on a non-verizon phone?
The only other thought I had is there are apps to connect to ADB over wifi. Sadly most of these need root. The ones that don't, seem to need at least once using a usb connection to do the "adb tcpip 5555" command to set it all up. . . . how annoying that it is all so circular!
There is also https://telnetd.en.aptoide.com/app?store_name=apps&app_id=59202144 , maybe a telnet connection could do the "adb tcpip 5555" command instead of using the USB connection? Sadly the documentation (at https://waxrain.com/docs/010.html ) appears to be written in Chinese, and I never had much luck with google translate.
The N910T still supports VoLte.. It is still compatible with cellular networks.
