Ok i was running a custom version of 2.2 FroYo on my captivate and it was running fine. I backed up my old version using Clockwork Recovery. Well i decided to get brave and flash back to my stock 2.1 ROM.
When i did that alls i can get is the AT&T boot screen. It will sit there for an hour if i left it. I tried entering recovery bode (power, vol up/down) but it just sits at that screen.
Is there any hope to recovering it? I use a MAC but im about to boot Win7 on it to run ODIN, but i cant get into any flash/recvoery mode....
Suggestions?
You want to try and get into Download Mode, not Recovery. Have you tried the various button combos to get into Download Mode yet?
If the various button combos ultimately don't work, you can use something called a JIG to force your phone into Download mode.
What is the button combo for download mode? also with is 'JIG'? Im no total newb but i am new to this who flashing/kernel modifying thing.
I have a Nexus S now which i love but i need the Galaxy running for my AT&T company SIM card....
Also do i NEED ODIN?
There are like 4+ different button combos for Download Mode. If you search, I'm sure you'll find them all. The one I remember is:
1. Remove battery, SIM, microSD card (if you have one)
2. Wait at least 10 seconds with the phone off
3. Hold Volume Up/Volume Down keys, do not let go
4. While holding the volume keys, insert the battery into the phone
If this worked, the phone should almost instantly be in Download Mode.
Once in Download Mode, you want to use Odin (generally the One-Click JF6 version) to flash your phone to a working state again.
A JIG is a microUSB plug that will force your phone into Download Mode, if Download Mode is still possible on your phone. You can make them with a MicroUSB plug and resistors, or buy one. The link in my signature is an example of what a purchased one would look like.
Hello,
My home button on galaxy s i9000 was out of order. Then i could not use three button modes.
I entered the phone to recovery mode using sdk but now i can not go out of recovery mode. The power button does nothing in recovery mode 3e . Then i can not choose the reboot phone option from menue.
I tried removing the battery for 20 minutes...also tried removing battery and pushing both volume up and down kies together and inserting battery but these methodes didn't work.
I can not use adb anymore as it can not recognize the device. Also odin can not recognize the phone...
What else could i do to get out of the recovery mode. I had official jpjf rom.
Any advice appreciated
My home button on galaxy s i9000 was out of order. Then i could not use three button modes. If its not working then you need the 3 button download recovery jig from the front page .
jje
Thanks alot for the advice. Then you mean i should make a jig cable.? As i'm not sure how to make the cable ,is there any other way to flash....?
any more idea?
you can buy these 'JIGs' off eBay for peanuts.
life saving tool for under £10
alternate method
This method worked for me without any cable . Try it. You should at least see samsung logo on startup, wherein phone is stuck at recovery. And you should also have legitimate OS if you skip the recovery loop.
So, the phone also has a charging mode apart from all the modes. Take out the battery and make it completely off. Now, connect charging cable(micro-usb) to the phone in off position(I connected to PC). The phone will go to charging mode and wait until you see a progress bar and a green battery logo. Either press power button now to go to normal mode or remove cable and press power button.
After this, I went to download mode from OS and flashed correct image. But, your need may vary.
i got stock too in recovery mode . i rebooted through adb.thank God my phone reboots out of recovery mode
After trying CM7 on my Galaxy S I decided to go back to the backup the I have made for my stock 2.2.1 using Clockwork mod. I couldn't make a full restore so I restored the data and system using advanced restore option. I was getting an error when trying to restore the boot img.
By mistake, I did a reboot and now I'm stuck on Galaxy S logo. I'm not even able to access the recovery.
I tried combination of Vol up + power + Home, taking out the battery and removing the sd card but nothing worked.
any help??
Forget recovery. Remove and reinsert battery. Enter download mode and flash a froyo firmware with bootloaders.

how can I enter download mode? as I said, I'm stuck on the galaxy s logo screen
After reinserting the battery, don't start the phone. You'll have a blank screen, when you should press Vol Down+Home+Power keys to start phone in download mode. Then you can flash using ODIN. There are several tutorials lying around, for the same. Run a search...
Hi. I have a captivate and I was trying to flash gb 2.3.3 with the fugu root using the link in - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127249
I was trying to follow the steps given here.
Root method:
1. Extract and open Odin3 v1.81.zip and place the zImage-root.tar file in the pda slot.
2. Connect your phone to your PC.
3. Put your phone into download mode (Same as eclair/froyo 3-button combo or adb reboot download)
4. Phone will boot and show the fugu fish.
5. Power off and put your phone into download mode.
6. Place the kernelKF1.tar file in the pda slot and hit start. Phone will reboot.
7. You are now rooted with Stock 2.3.3 Gingerbread.
The thing tho was, I couldn't get into download mode on my phone using any of the button combos. So I did it through adb reboot for step 3. Step 4 worked fine but then after i get the fugu fish i can't ofc get into download mode since none of the button combos seem to work. (I've tried vol +/- and power, the 3 buttons with usb and then put battery in, vol + with power and vol - with power etc.).
The question I have is do I have any other options in getting download mode back without having to resort to a usb jig?
Thanks.
Did you flash with the Stock 2.3.3 one click first for the new boot loaders?
Pull your battery and disconnect your usb cord. Now start Odin. Insert your battery without touching any buttons. Now while hosting down only the volume buttons, insert tour usb cord.

you can try power down, remove battery, press combo keys and insert battery
1) To enter download mode [volumedown+home+power] or as per your model
2) While in this position, insert the battery
