Hi guys,
I am aware that one can update the firmware of galaxy note via Kies, the software update option probably relates to Kies and not to the phone itself, right?
So what if one does not have a laptop, how else could one update the phone? Is it even necessary? What use does it have?
Thank you very much!

Probably not and still have root access, but it seems it updated the baseband to MJ5. Still on 4.3.
I'm trying to find release notes for it.

I'm trying to get tech on the line with AT&T to find a release note somewhere. I found this about Sprint. I got the update and still no Knox app lol. You should be able to update it now but you will probably loose root access. Don't know till you try.

The only release notes that AT&T can give me is general performance enhancements.

Not on all the devices. There're things like survival mode and voodoo OTA that sometimes work. I'm just not familiar with how this device is going to work.
i just went to about phone, and it says I'm up to date. how is everyone else getting a notification?
I checked said the same thing that my current software is up to date

You can update while rooted but not with a custom recovery installed. We are able to update while rooted because we don't have a bootloader bypass and custom recovery.

How do you disable the automatic update? I stopped the update. Deleted the .apk using Root Explorer but I still get the notification that it's downloading the update. Perhaps I deleted the wrong .apk??? In any case, I stopped the update but now there's the stupid notification that the update's pending.
I'm not rooted at all and got that same update today. I went through the whole shabang, it restarted and said updated after the whole android is updating deal. Something weird happened after updating when I connected to Kies 3 for the first time ever. Its says "Your device is not supported to update firmware via kies" Current firmware version : PDA: MJ5 / PHONE : MJ5 / CSC : MJ5 (ATT)
Anyone else come across this?? Like I said I'm not rooted and completely stock
D'oh!!! I never froze or deleted anything to stop the update. I didn't care if I got notification or not. I just had the icon this morning and prompts to update. BUT WTH?!?! It forced updated on me. what's up with that?! It normally prompt me to update or postpone, but this time it says restart to update. The only thing to do was hit continue and that's it. I couldn't stop it or cancel it.
So WARNING, if you wanna keep your root, disable the updates.
It's probably being pushed in segments. I'm sure it will pop up for you very soon.

It's because AFAIK it's not pure MJ5 but it's modified. We never had MJ5 build on Kies or Sammobile.

I restored to mj5 and then did Ota update to another version which worked fine and then it tried to do an Ota update to 4.4.2 and fails. Thinking of trying emergency firmware restore via kies and see if that works.

It won't. Kies only has MI9. It will fail because of different flash count in aboot trust me.

Hi, I'm new to the Note 3 community. I recently purchased one and realized I'm not receiving a OTA update for Stock ROM. Could anyone explain this?
