[Q] Total RAM after upgrading to kitkat - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Should it be 1.66G or did I screw something up? I think it was 2G before.
Thank you in advance for your answers.

No, it is normal! 4.2/4.3 had the same! It was introduced as 2gig of RAM but it was actually 1,66gig!

Z2, 3GB Ram :highfive:
although I have yet to come accross an app that uses up all 2GB Ram.

It will never be possible as Adreno330 use part of the 2GB ram so logically 1.66 still available for System and Apps.

It's not worth upgrading to a Z2 from a Z1, difference is marginal.
from a Z or lower end phones, it maybe worth it.

[Q] HTC One RAM used on the first boot

can someone tell me how much RAM is used when the first time HTC ONE turned on without many application running. My HTC ONE X+ only have around 250 MB left of RAM when the first time the phone is turned on.
Please correct me if I wrong, but I think, this is due to HTC sense stuff that takes lots of memory to run. It makes me thinking twice before installing application especially the one that running on background due the the memory space is very little.
I don't own the One yet and cannot comment on exactly how much ram sense 5 uses, but One has 2gb ram so it means if sense 5 uses the same amount of ram as sense 4, it will leave you 1.25gb which is enough and good amount for app running and switching.

On my friends HTC One there is 1.5gb of free ram or so.
Just done a full reboot and mine is showing 1.1gb free memory.

From memory, go into settings then apps/applications and you should be able to swipe right which will then show you free ram I think.

HTC One only showing 1.5gb of ram

Can everybody else check in the system monitor app weather your showing only 1.5gb of ram instead of 2gb?
Mine says 1.5gb too

HTC does that I think, they reserve a piece of the ram to run the system and don't show it.

It's the same on any device -a certain amount of the total RAM is unavailable to the OS and thus "hidden". For example, the One XL shows 660-760 (or something like that) total RAM, depending on the ROM you're running.

Why do you stress yourself and worry about such small things.

That's a lie. Every android phone does not say 1.5gb of ram. My android phone only says 350mb.

Since this thread is talking about ram, I'm wondering how well does the One handle multitasking? Can any One owner comment on this? My previous OneX pretty much couldn't handle any form of multitasking at all.

Your not getting it. My nexus 7 shows like 900, nexus 4 around 1.6. Previous phones says the same thing as having ram amounts shown less because it is dedicated to the phone.
It be cool if every android phone on this planet that said that right?

No multitasking to speak of. The 1.5GB available RAM is a stock.jpg that lies to the user.

I have also read that the GPU does not have dedicated RAM, so that it uses some of the 2gb. Then the operating system needs some RAM.
I just got mine from Rogers today (Canada)
Says 2G under system info

Np, just got mine yesterday so it might be more since I have all my apps installed already. Plus it has a sd card slot so plenty of storage is available if you add a sd card.
Yep, starts with a tad over 26gb and can use it for whatever...no weird partition.

Actually , i meant the portion that can install APP, not the totaly space left. I have other sony 16GB model, i always run out of space to install app, since they are all 16GB only. So try to find out how many this 32GB model has for APP only.
Or actually can I have the whole 32GB for app ?
On this phone the space can be used for whatever,, so you can use it for all apps if you want.

Good to know, other sony xperia has 2 partitions, one for app which used quickly, the rest like 20 plus GB are used for anything else.

Why 423mb RAM and not 512mb?

Looking through Settings > Apps > Running I noticed that my Xperia E1 (D2005) only has 423mb ram available. Does ram get reserved for something else I am not aware of?. It means that 89mb of ram is mysteriously unaccounted for.
I know it seems like a minor nitpick but when it's advertised with 512mb of ram, you kind of expect that such a significant chunk wasn't being hidden or used outside of your control.
That being said I am pretty new to Android and haven't owned many devices.
