So I had a bad kernel flash and it wiped my EFS partition and the phone now randomly reboots every minute or less. I had backup imgs of the EFS when I first rooted, but unable to root... Since the phone keeps rebooting before the root process can finish. (I already restored phone back to stock tot) .
So left with no way to restore my EFS backups I called LG and filed for repair and luckily it was still covered so I mailed it out today.
Has anyone ever returned to LG for repair for EFS issues? If so did they return your original phone? Or did you get a refurbished one back? Just wanted to know what to expect...

I flashed a few roms, and I have an efs backup for imei/product code, but for some reason they won't restore, my phone is running fine on stock 2.2 froyo (unrooted), but I was wondering if there is anyway to get a new phone, so I can have an actual imei and use kies.
If you have just flashed roms and not modified your imei I don't see why it would be incorrect. Mine has never altered throughout many flashes. There is definitely some good threads on restoring imei In tthe development forums but If you can't figure it out and really crave your factory imei mobiletechvideos.com has a imei restore service for $30.

I tried the technique that mobiletech uses, but I lost my efs backup folder now, and it won't restore without that. I also cannot get the product code to stick. I want a new phone....warranty help please.
When I get home ill look more into imei restoring. With no backup it might be hard. I have an efs backup on my PC in thecase something were to happen to my internal memory. can never be too careful. Curious though, why did you modify your imei? Still not too clear as to why people do this.

I didn't do it on purpose, for some reason a long time ago I must have performed a bad flash.
Upon further research I see what you mean. Looks like this happens with bad flashes and with no backup it looks like the hex editor method located herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881162 is your only hope. You say you have tried this on jf6 rooted and no success?

I took an /efs backup from my first capitvate. I ended up sending it back to amazon as I had that infamous problem with the first OTA bricking phones. When I got my second, an I9000 rom changed my product type in my nv_data.bin. I saw an /efs backup on my SD card, forgot it was from my first phone, deleted /eft and tried to recover from the backup. I ended up with the test IMEI
I flashed back to JF6, called samsung, told them my IMEI became corrupt from a firmware flash and they asked me to send them the phone. They paid shipping both ways and fixed my IMEI in a week (they simply changed out the mainboard which seems to be a common fix for them).
Provided that your indicator strips are still white and there is no physical damage, I would imagine they would do the same for you too.

So should I flash back to stock JF6, and send them my phone?
I'm on Captivate #4, which is replacement #3 because the geniuses at AT&T believe the last phone I had was the cause of poor signal. The others were replaced for different reasons and I'm not convinced a new phone will help the signal but it looks like I'll wind up re-flashing it and returning the one I'm sending back AT&T back to stock. I've noticed after flashing the last two phones that it breaks the IMEI so that it displays a generic one(004999010640000). What's the best ICS based ROM that I can flash that won't break it again this time? If I knew what to back up I could do that too and just back it up before flashing to SlimICS. I tried following some guides to restore it on the other phones, but it didn't work for whatever reason. I know the /efs folder gets backed up, but then what?

Hello,
I've had my cappy for almost 2 years now... I could be just lucky, but never had a problem and I flashed all sorts of Roms.
Anyway it wouldn't be a bad idea to backup your whole EFS folder and there is also a couple apps to backup and restore your IMEI.
I'm currently on Ics Remix and love it... No IMEI problem smooth as butter... No sleep of death and battery is really good. I'm using the Roms kernel devil.... Which is what you want anyway.

I'd always made a backup but always forget where I put it or what I called it.. I think my luck it was on the phone itself and got wiped out, go figure. Not too sure though.
Hey there.
Ive been trying to root my SM-N900A 4.4.4 on AT&T so I headed to this thread right here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/how-to-root-n900aucudnj5-t2948355
And I was going to to downgrade when a friend advised me not to do so because I might lose my network connection in my smartphone if I do not backup my EFS.
However when I looked up how to backup my EFS I found a guide how to do that using EFS Pro app that requires a root which I do not have. SO again Im stuck...
Any thoughts or recommendations? Taking into consideration that I am not a pro in these things.
It's always possible to mess up the EFS when you do any fooling around with the phone - just like it's always possible to get hit by a truck unless you're in your back yard (one could come crashing through the front wall of your house), but most people don't worry about such things. Two days ago, I was back and forth between NC2 and NL1 about 6 times, and the phone still works. A lot of people have done this particular downgrade without a problem. Then you root and keep a backup of the EFS (and Safestrap and keep a backup of the system and data partitions. Then, every time you're going to make a major change, at least back up that partition, so you can Safestrap it back if the change messes things up. It took me 5 minutes, when I got back to NC2, which I'm still running, to get back a couple of hundred apps, all their date, my launcher set up the way I like it, etc. - Just restored the data partition I had backed up before I started messing around.)
I got the dreaded boot loop after having either 1.0 or 1.1 extreme on it for what feels like almost a year now. I was able to make a complete backup while in twrp using the freezer method. Here is my question., just received my replacment from tmobile. (they sent me another 505 ugh) I was thinking I would root the new phone than go into twrp and restore my OLD backup then boot in to phone and then run backups for my contacts, mms, database for call restrict list etc. Then backout and put the newer extreme rom on an import my contacts, mms, database stuff. My question is what will happen if the backup I have is a 10h and I install it on a 10n. I can't remember for the life of me what it was, like I said it has been a year almost. I thought about trying to restore some stuff from TB backup using the nandroid but my research states not to to this. I figure loading original and backup with MMS backup and update contact to google etc. then install new rom would be better. Just dont want to hose myself if it is a 10H. anyone know what whould happen? Thanks for all your help in advance. I'm just scared sh**less to hose the refurb they sent.
Dont know exactly, but you may brick it. Proceed carefully. By the way, if you restore remember you CANT restore the EFS folder.
I have two GT-I8190s. I made a backup via TWRP of everything on the old phone (EFS included) and I just transferred everything to the new phone, this means that the original EFS on the new phone has been overwritten by the old phone. I just wanted to have a one to one copy and didn't know about the partitions and their meaning, and that TWRP can practically flash the EFS partition. But I have a functional IMEI that matches the sticker, but no CSC, even after I have flashed a stock rom. What can I do to get the original EFS back as much as possible?
