I had been previously able to select a feature in settings which allowed me to instantly access my home screen/whatever screen I was using at the time when I started up my phone. Now, after having downloaded the update, it seems I can't do that anymore. Did they make it so you HAVE to swipe up to access the phone or is there another way to get back what was probably my favorite feature on the entire phone?
EDIT: Nevermind, I solved it. Just downloaded the No Lock app. No idea how to delete threads. Sorry.

So I just rooted my nookcolor, got it working perfectly except for two keyboard related issues:
1. Whenever I select to use the gingerbread keyboard, no keyboard appears when I click on a data field.
2. When I click on 'Keyboard Settings' in the settings menu, it crashes to the home screen. I'm really just trying to turn off the setting that shows the pop-up when a key is pressed.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
Okay so I've solved the first issue by installing the gingerbread keyboard apk, however I'm still running into the second issue. I cannot for the life of me access my keyboard settings, whenever I clicked it the screen just crashes to the home screen. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there an APK for settings that I could replace to get this working?
Keyboard
Look in the extras area for NookColor Tools
It's a screwed up place to put the keyboard selection but it's there!!
Thanks for the reply however I do not see an 'Extras' section. I've looked in both the Nookcolor Tools and the regular NookColor settings. I see the 'Keyboard' settings that crashes on me, however I don't see an 'Extras'. Could you point me in the right direction?
Nevermind, I'm an idiot. I know what you're talking about. However, that's not my issue. My issue is that when I click on 'Keyboard Settings' inside of settings, it crashes to home. I want to set my keys to not pop up when i type.
I also have a newly rooted NC and am having Keyboard issues too. (I just saw this thread as I was posting my own). I have the same issue of it crashing when you try and look at the settings. I also had the same issue with the GingerBread keyboard not showing up in a text field. I uninstalled it because I think it is broke.
I have been working with trying to get Japanese Keyboards to work with the nook so here is what you might want to do. It is ass backwards.. but its how I've been doing it to get keyboards to show up when I try to use them.
- Download a new/different gingerbread APK
- If you install it.. i bet you won't be able to select it from the keyboard list.. even after restart.
- Make sure in NookColorTools the check box is checkd for allowing 3rd party apps (if the bottom fails you might need to uncheck it and recheck it)
- Buy Root Explorer
- navigate in RE to the mysterious /data/app/ folder and find the apk that you
downloaded.. and copy it.
- navigate to /system/app/ and push the button at the top to allow writing of files.
paste the apk into this directory.
- hold in the file and it will prompt to install it.
- it might ask to replace existing ... say OK.
- Install successful.. now you will see the keyboard to choose from.
I was able to solve my gingerbread keyboard problem by just re-downloading the apk and pushing it to /system/apps/. after that i was able to select it and it's working just fine now.
however, my only problem now is accessing keyboard settings. it just always crashes to home screen. all i want to do is set the pop up on keyboard to off!
bump! anyone?!
So, I softbricked my D3 last night. I then started work on how to fix it.
Here was my problem: I rooted, remove some app, then started having problems. I would get FC's in motoblur apps. I then decided to factory restore my phone.
This is when the problem started.
In the setup of the D3, you are asked if you wanted to setup location services. If you click next, I would FC then go back to adding an account.
Here's where my solution comes in.
1. Add your Google account
2. Send your self an email with a link to a launcher in the market
3. Install launcher
4. Hit the "Home" button
5. Phone will ask you what launcher you want to use. Make sure to select what you want and check the box to make it default.
Hope this helps anyone in the same spot I was at.

I also posted about this somewhere, I am looking into what apk I removed that causes this when I find out I will post it here then you can just put it back and set its permissions and should be able to finish setup and go back to the blur launcher.
Same basic thing happened to me, problem is that you can't connect to ADB because you can't get into settings to enable USB debugging. Unless someone knows a way around it.
Just use freeze option on titanium backup pro (or any other).
Go to App Manager>All Apps>Kindle Special Offers. Press and select Freeze. That's all!
That's a good clean(ish) way of doing it if you ever want them back for whatever reason.
I myself prefer the renaming method, plus if you do a factory reset after renaming the dtcp_apk.apk you get rid of the Offers tab on the Home screen as it never gets installed again otherwise it stays there but brings up a small toast notification saying it can't run if you tap it.
I tried the first method but it didn't work for me... This one did!

Hmm... Strange that it wouldn't work, but go with whatever works best for you, at least there's multiple methods to disable them
Doesnt work for me either. I even deleted the apk accidently and I still get ads
I have gone through my AT&T Note 3 thoroughly and disabled most bloat.
I am finding the "My Magazine" app quite annoying due to single clicks of home button while on home screen and accidental upward swipes.
I have yet to figure out how to uninstall or disable it yet.
Does anyone know how?

I think until root is achieved if you cant disable it in app manager if you use a third party launcher it stops it from activating

Open My Magazine, hit your menu key, settings, you can turn off the option to open it via the home button... Unfortunately not with swipe up though. It seems like swiping is more difficult to open it anyway so it's less annoying.

is there any way to start the my magazine as an app and put on my home screen etc?
i cannot seems to find it in the app draw
I don't understand why they have this and flipboard. It is basically the same thing with a different interface and less customization.
It's annoying as hell for me because I already have flipboard as a damn widget. What's worse is you can't even put your flipboard account on there.

Semi Solution
In a search on another thread to find a solution for getting to the home screen or home page without pressing the home button, user Dankchild provided this app:
Swipe Home Button Free
It creates a small area at the bottom of the screen where you can swipe up and it will take you home (or another custom action you set). You have to swipe from a little off the bottom of the screen up, and the magazine action is still there if you start on the screen, but since installing this and getting used to swiping from the bottom starting off the screen, I haven't opened the magazine application once. Not a fix but it is working great for me and killing two birds with one stone!
I'm looking for the same thing-a way to disable the stupid My Magazine swipe-up gesture. It's half baked and useless to me. Flipboard is much better and more customizable and I hate that the gesture is there at all in the stock launcher. There has to be a way around this somehow.
I went in to My Magazine and turned off the launch when pressing home button. Then with my phone rooted I froze it with titanium backup. Now if you swipe up from the bottom you get a little popup that says "No app found" or something like that. I have not found a way to get rid of that completely, maybe with that swipe up program listed above.
I also went into My Mag and disabled the button. Switched to NOVA launcher and now it doesnt activate if you swype up from the bottom of the screen...not sure if I did anything to disable it.

If you disable the apk it messes with the stock e-mail app for some reason. I spent days trying to figure out why until someone in another thread suggested I try unfreezing it. Now I haven't had any issues for about 3 days with the e-mail app.

Is this only with the stock e-mail (not gmail) app, or does it effect other stock apps too?

This happens on my VZ Note 3 as well. Don't understand what links them.

I read that this method is doing a fc whit the email apps
I am pretty disappointed with this. I was hoping I would not have to root the device.
You MUST agree to the Terms and Conditions / Privacy Policies to be able to "disable" the home button binding. If you force stop, clear data then the binding returns.
What was Samsung thinking when they thought they should FORCE everyone to use it or SUFFER the inconvenience...

Jokesonme gave you the answer! With that app you don't have to root and you can have it do nothing when you swipe or switch it to a different app.
Thanks jokesonme!!

Did not work for me. Even with installing the app and trying different bindings, it will either FC TouchWiz or go to the app not found screen in Google Play.
Sadface. Can't wait to put on a custom ROM without all the bloat.
This is horrible every like 20 minutes I'm gettin the error. I don't wanna root I wanna stick to stock.
Any other options?
Hi,
I'm having a weird issue when I'm in the recent apps screen. I'm not sure why, but as you can see from the photos, there is an ugly message showing up saying: "couldn't load widget" that specifically only appears when the there are apps present in the recent apps menu. I've had the google search app disabled since I upgraded to 5.0.2, but the message keeps showing even if I re-enable it. Further more, a family member also has the z3 compact and I can see that the google search bar doesn't appear on his phone in the recent apps menu even if it is enabled, so in his case the rrecent app menu on his phone doesn't show any widget whatsoever, regardless of whether he has the google search app enabled or not.
I'm no phone expert so I thought the best place to go would be the XDA forums, so I'm hoping you guys can help me figure out how to make this ugly text go away. The only thing that I tried to do, without any results, was to wipe the cache partition.
Thanks
It's just a guess, but I see some mini-widget icons I do not recognize from my phone. Perhaps it has something to do with those?

These are just some additional mini-apps that I have installed. I doubt they'd cause something like this though.
Anyone?
