[Q] Swype/slide function on I9000 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear I9000 friends,
i've noticed that some of the slim, fast ROMs allow me to use swype/slide function on Android keyboard (or Google keyboard), so I do not need to install rather big Swype which I bought. Most of the ROMs like SlimKat or CynaAOSP allow swype function in English or German, but not in Croatian language. However, this is one of my most important functions and I am lost among of all ROMs in this forum. (BIG THANKS AND CONGRATS TO ALL DEVELOPERS FOR PUTTING A LOT OF EFFORT IN THIS WORK).
Other than this thing with swype/slide function for Croatian languange, I only want to have Maps and Whatsapp function as fast as possible and have the ROM as fast as possible that would work with these premises (couldn't care less if this is 4.4, 4.3, 4.2 or 4.1).
Could any of you good souls suggest me a FAST ROM which would allow me to use swype function in croatian languange and be fast on my Whatsapp.
After trying so many different ROMs from different developers, I am LOST in TIME and SPACE and would greatly appreciate if you could point me towards a ROM with Swype/slide function integrated and be as fast as possible. As the father of the family, I have the slowest Samsung of all ( ), but I guess it is typical for a family man. Unfortunately, I do not have so much money to invest into a new Samsung 5.
Which ROM with Swype/slide function would you recommend me? All other functions are more or less not important since I communicate mostly thorugh Whatsapp with my family and friends.
THANX for ALL/ANY of your suggestions/recommendations/critique etc.
Best regards,
Pavana

Hi there,
i'm testing many roms for my i9000 but 1st thing i do is installing the Touchpal X Keyboard from Google Play, try it out. I got the recomendation here from the Forum. It says it works for your language, too. I only tested in german and english, works perfect for me.

how difficult is it to make a custom ROM?

Hi,
I am thinking of cooking my own ROM.
All I need to do is mixing two ROMs, nothing fancy.
Here is the situation I am in.
I am in Canada but I use my mother tongue a lot (most of my contacts are not in english).
So, I tried installing the Korean ROM from SKTELCOM.
However, there was a slight problem with the SMS (and possibly MMS but I don't use MMS so I am not sure) and internet/data (3G, Edge, etc, but I don't use data so I don't mind this bit - Wi-Fi is working).
The SK ROM uses a seperate application for SMS and the original MS SMS feature inside the message (where you can find your email accounts as well) is either disabled or removed.
And to use this application, I have to go through changing the formats of all contants I have.
Also, I can't use any SMS notifications that were made for the original SMS features (including the original WM notifications).
I am looking for a way to enable or istalling whatever to get the original SMS feature back.
So my question is,
Would it be possible to mix two ROMs, X1i-eng & SKTELCOM, to get basic phone features from X1i-eng and language and applications from SKTELCOM?
If so, could you help me do it?
I have read the tutorials for ROM cooking etc, but I am a little scared doing it.
If I were to go ahead and do it, should I base the SKTELCOM ROM and try to mix the phone features or should I base the ENG ROM and try to implement language and applications?
Any insights would be helpful.
Thanks.
In your situation, you probably don't need to install the Korean ROM. Since you say that you need your contacts to be displayed which are in Korean, you could just install a Korean font on a WWE(English) ROM. On top of that, if you need to be able to input Korean, you will need the appropriate IME and SIPs. There are CAB installers that will do what I've said. I would search them for you but I'm feeling a bit lazy
Thanks for the reply.
I know about the fonts..
But my main concern was the inputing part.
Where could I find IME and SIP for Korean input?
I've searched using "korean" but nothing much came up..

Hey dahanist, how's that ROM going? I'm in the same situation you are, so I'm hoping maybe you made some progress.

[QUESTION] Froyo and Dutch language pack

Have used several CM rom versions. Yesterday I made the move to Froyo. However, although Android is multi-language...Dutch isn't in the language settings list.
I haven't tried "locale2" from the market but I don't like that program very much (used it before I rooted my Nexus) compared to the language packs in the CM roms.
Is there an easy way to get Dutch as an option in the language settings list?
I suggest you wait for a custom rom. Im sure they will put the languages back in.
Hi, I've made my own private 2.2 ROM for the Nexus One, which is pretty much just the stock ROM with Dutch (so ~AOSP). If you're interested...
would you like to share the rom with me ?
Im using the google navigation, but have u ever heard an american women pronouncing dutch street names? Aweful!

[Q] I9000 Languages

Hi all,
I want to start by saying that this forum has been very helpful to my in customising my GT-I9000, and I want to thank you all for this help. I have had a Galaxy S for about a week and I am really liking the flexibility of this phone. But without your efforts, there would not be near as much flexibility.
So I have a question about language support across different firmwares. It requires a little explanation, so I apologies in advance if it is a bit too much text. I use linux a fair bit, but I am new to Android so I dont know many of the details of the system yet. I am a n00b, however, I want to show that I actually put effort into what I want to do instead of just asking for someone else to do it for me from the beginning.
I would like to have the ability to send SMS in Hebrew from the SGS native messaging software. I find no problem inputting in Hebrew using various Keyboards such as AnySoftKey. However, the sms is received as a series of question marks. I guess it is a lack of character support, probably somewhere between typing the text in Hebrew, and the phone transmitting it across the networks.
I could install a firmware from an Israeli network as they have Hebrew input on their firmware versions. However, these are not very up-to-date and I would rather use a newer firmware (I have JPX with Darky's Gingerbread 6.0 mod, which is very up-to-date ).
I want to take it step by step, so I think I should start with the Keyboard input.
AnySoftKeboard works well for Hebrew input, and the text it makes works in all apps except the Messaging app (although it looks just fine on my side). But Perhaps the Samsung Keyboard would work?
I have looked at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=796854
It describes methods of porting Keyboards from one firmware version to another. This is specific to porting the Eclair keyboard to Froyo.
So I tried to apply this logic to my needs. But I have difficulties knowing which firmwares have Hebrew language input support, yet alone a keyboard that is compatible with JPX. I tried with the keyboard from firmware I9000JHJP8 (only one I am sure has Hebrew support), but the porting following the instructions in the thread did not work. I am sure with some trial an error (and probably lots and lots of error ) I would eventually be able to get it to work.
So before I start trying to get it to work, I would like to know if you think that changing the keyboard would make any difference, or, if the problem lays somewhere else?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Hey. I hate to bump this but its gone to many pages from the first.
I wont bump again as I guess there may be no answer for this question.
Still Should I bother trying to convert the keyboard as i suggested above?

samsung keyboard russian language

First of all forgive me for being an annoying noob I am, but I've been googleing this matter for 3 days with no luck.
So here is the deal: I've purchased a Chinese (I think) GTab (meaning the default locale was Chinese) here in Russia. There was no problem in switching locale to Russian, all fonts work correctly, all translations are good and so on. The problem is, Samsung keyboard doesn't have a Russian language as an option (despite having a bunch of others), and I would love to use a keyboard dock, which only agrees to work with SK. The interesting thing is, the keyboard dock does have a Russian layout, so I have to presume there is actually a way to install it to Samsung keyboard app.
Can anyone spare any advice?
The best I've managed to find so far was a similar topic for the original Tab, but it only applies to android 2.1 and 2.2 as far as I figured (I did try before assuming)
maybe you should try and contact kallt_kaffe.

he develops an app for non US bluetooth keyboards. he is very active in this forum especially in his CM9 Rom thread.

[Q] Help with Samsung Keyboard

Hello guys, thanks for reading this and help me. I hope you can point me in the right direction. Here is my situation: I've been maintaining a custom ROM named MasterStock, it basically takes the tweaks and improvements of another's guy ROM (chuckybean) but keeping the styling and apps of the standard stock rom. The goal is to have a nice and quick ROM with the same "skin" that comes from factory.
Now my issue comes with the Samsung keyboard, I manage to include it on my rom, and it works. But the autocomplete function does not work at all. It just does not suggest or corrects any word at all. I cannot understand what Im missing to include in my rom.
Anybody has any clue? Or can think in something I'm probably missing?
Before you reply something, I would like to please avoid messages saying there are better keyboards apps out there, and I know you probably can give me tons of alternatives to replace this keyboard. However my truly intention is to make this one to work, and give the users the ability to have a complete and functional ROM with the style of the stock version.
Many thanks in advance!!

I think there should be file with content for autocomplete. I can't remember what, and where it is. Probably /data/something. Do research, it is the same on every JB wirh TW I thing, so you can use expirience from SII, SIII users...
