Anybody know if there is an app out there that can cast rtsp video streams? Can't find anything out there. Just want to be able to cast my IP cameras.

Real player used to support RTSP (probably still does) but that doesn't mean it will support Casting to a CCast.
I saw that tiny cam pro has chromecast support, but I can't get my cameras to pull up on the app so I am not waisting my money on the pro version. I just tested on the lite free version.

Seems everyone is charging for the CCast support these days! LOL
Yeah I would be sure it will work before you buy and if it can't do it in the app itself no way it will work with CCast.

In theory, if you have a universal playing app like VLC remote or Yatse for Chromecast, it might work...

Been hoping for the same thing! Waiting for Chromecast to cast any video stream to my TV. Including my 1Channel app on xbmc
If you want to stream videos to XBMC using Chromecast technology then XBMC will need to embed Chromecast display/render functionality which may be difficult to impossible to include DRM which might make it useless. The other way around does not make any sense for XBMC as it does not transcode and act as a library, it's a self contained library and renderer. I've messed around with XBMC, My Movies, Plex and all have their advantages. I'm really hoping for Plex support so I can browse my movie library on my phone and cast it to the Chromecast just like youtube, google movies, etc.

XBMC does not transcode and by design is a renderer so unless XBMC completely changes their goals and design it just won't happen. Look at Plex it's designed this way, to have a back end media server transcoding to stream to basically any device. All they really need to do is define a transcode type for Chromecast then implement the front end controls into the Android app.
Thanks will try plex do they actually have an app ?

Plex gets installed on your PC (media library and transcoder) then you can run any number of Plex renderers (on PC, Android, Roku, etc). It should be relatively easy for Plex to add Chromecast support as it's designed to work just like Chromecast works. However I would rather use a Chromecast then a Roku...

Could swear I read somewhere that plex is going to add Chromecast support.
Edit: " The makers of the Plex media center are also hinting strongly at plans to support Chromecast, and code found by Chromecast hackers seems to stem from efforts to bring HBO Go to the platform"

Not a guarantee, but cant see them passing it up.
Then again there is this: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...es-stream-any-local-or-cloud-file-to-your-tv/
Wouldnt be limited to plex or xbmc. Could use any dlna/upnp server.

There is a lot of talk about it and Plex offically says they are highly considering it or something like that but they have not officially committed to it. I really have no doubt that they will, it's a perfect fit!

The only reason I'm more in favor of Plex over Bubble is that Plex does transcoding while Bubble doesn't. So I can play MKV files with Plex while with Bubble I can't. I would like to be able to stream every format I have instead of just the select native formats that the Chromecast can serve. Plex has an awesome transcoder so I really hope they can release this.
(edit: NM I'm an idiot. Plex runs as a DLNA server so it will do the transcoding through Bubble. Either way it looks like Koush seems to be close to including this feature into Allcast).
Hi,
It's now possible to cast xmbc over chromecast through Avia Player ($2.99 charge for Addon). Video tutorials up on YouTube explains how.
Using Smartphone - XMBC can be watched over Chromecast through Avia Player which costs $2.99. YouTube Video shows how.

Good Luck
I was going to buy this when it first came out but the reviews showed that for local video files, movies that I happened to have on my desktop would result in lag and chopiness framer ate. I was wondering if this is still the situation?
AFAIK, yes. At least in my own experiences.

Absolutely! You're better off spending a few dollars more and grabbing an Android TV stick, or splurging on another set top box like Roku/Plex, or WDTV Live box.
Ive noticed that in chrome I can open MP4 videos and play them. Then cast that tab and it works fairly well. But I cant get it to work with any other extensions. WMVs will play but when I cast it doesnt show up on my tv.
Are there any web based media players that we can just cast the tab?
Im a little disappointed with this device it could been so much more
*edit* Apparently you can cast the plex web app.
Yeah if you were looking to stream local content you purchased the wrong device.

It really is worth the time to set up Plex and use it to cast from your Chrome browser tab. I set it up 2 weeks ago and my wife and kids love it. It breathes new life into your TV and movie collection. I use a wifi mouse on my phone to control it.
Also with Plex I can watch ALL of my movies at work, streaming them from my house to my phone and tablet. It really is handy, and makes the wait on chromecast bearable.
Edit: it has played every video format so far...

I guess I should also mention that Plex needs to be installed on a computer and the Chrome tab you are casting needs to be on that computer or another one you are signed into with your Plex info. It was a fairly painless setup.

Local streaming is my #1 by far. Essentially cutting my need to run a HDMI to laptop is the main reason I bought it lol.
As simple as 24p output from netflix, 60hz is terrible! Or am i missing something when 60hz is only I get...?

As the Chromecast picks up the URL of e.g. YouTube or Netflix and takes over the stream, it is unlikely to be able to stream audio to your phone at the same time.

Here is a list of Apps that are already working on CCast support
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromecast
As for what I would like to see....
1 - I would like to see the XBMC remote programs allow you to cast to Chromecast as a Target. But I think they would have to add transcoding to XBMC to do it well....
2 - Would like to see a good SCREEN CAST app which I think may in the end not require an APP because it will be native to Android.
3 - The Ability to leverage HDMI-CEC capabilities of Chromecast in an App to enable CCast to act as a Remote Control via IP. (But better would be an IR blaster port in the next generation CCast so those without HDMI-CEC setups can use it as well)
4 - Screen Mirroring support for PC outside of Chrome (Not really an App as much as a program for PC)
Twitch, undoubtedly my app I'd use the most.

I doubt that Dropbox would add casting to it's own app.
Whats funny is I looked at the DIAL homesite and saw the Bittorrent and uTorrent name registered in their database...So soon your Bittorrent client like Azureus or uTorrent may get the capability to stream to CCast.
Check out who has registered names and prefixes for DIAL support.

twitch
lovefilm
blinkbox
BBC iPlayer and LoveFilm.
Although I understand they're both UK and the ChromeCast isn't out in the UK yet...so probably not going to be soon.
I do wonder how many Chromecasts are "live" in the UK though!

With Avia, every app that uses external player and supported file format automatically gets Chromecast support. Even BubbleUPNP can play through it. I am not even sure if I really need anything else.

Great Article! As great as the Chromecast is....It is the DIAL protocol itself that is what makes the device exciting and the Potential to change the way we do TV in the future.
Just imagine TVs with Two Way DIAL support...Whats on the TV can be sent to a second screen...
Or content from any device that supports DIAL can be sent to any TV.
No worrying about the Manufacturer keeping their smart Apps up to date anymore.
