Audio Quality

Hello guys,
Sorry if there is already a thread like this. I searched the forum before, but the Tapatalk search function is really bad.
So: how is the audio quality? Can it replace a Cowon iAudio player? Sony is a big player in terms of sound equipment, so I put quite much hope in them.
I am not one of this guys whose spend lots of money in things like cables and portable amps. But I have really high requirements in sound quality, my Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 could not satisfy me, neither my iPod classic.

Standard isn't too bad, speaker is a bit week, but with above and tweaking settings, it's good, better with headphones.

you are asking a lot for a phone and being cheap. Unlock your phone, install the kernel by dooom, by far that help me out the most, but dont expect it to be a blessing by the gods.

XZ stock sound is rubbish, ear piece is to quiet ect but after you have you new toy then root install CWM for locked BL and flash PureXAudio to a point you will have to turn volume down. Just remeber on locked BL please dont factory reset/wipe cache because i am sure i will see you in Q&A with bootloop problems.
You dont want to unlock your BL yet not intill you are happy and comfortable with what are doing/modding

Stock sound not good.
Root and install PureXAudio. The quality will be fantastic great!

Now... PureXAudio or this Viper thing?

PureXAudio definitely.. Haven't seen much people using viper... To be honest that's the first time seeing that in these forums

Why is stock sound (earphone, not loudspeaker, the louspeakers are too soft) bad? The audio chip used is the Qualcomm WCD9310, which ranks just below Wolfson but beats everything else as far as audio quality goes.

With my very limited knowledge, I think Sony hasn't fully utilised the capabilities of the chipset.. But PureXAudio does that for you

The Xperia Z + PureXAudio can replace the Cowon iAudio Player for sure. I had a chance to hear both of them and the Z tops it.

Yeah, thats really good news. What about noise/soughing when WiFi is on? With my N7 and Urabnears Zinken/Xears , I can hear hum and noise in the background when surfing using WiFi...

No problem at all. Not even with my bluetooth set. I'm also using the PureXaudio mod and each time I listen to music I have the feeling that I'm in heaven. It's pure quality.
I haven't tried the other mod (don't have any reason to), so I can't say anything about it.

Try Version 11 of Pure X audio..its the loudest..i still use it and didnt upgrade as higher versions are lower.

It v15 now on purexaudio.. Better quality now and view chngelogs.. :thumbup: i recommend purexaudio mod.. Im using it so far.

Anyone switching to s4 active?

I have xperia z and i love it. I always swim with it on the beach. Even dive about 24ft on the beach while filming. No problem.
Its just the battery and the speakrrs for me after being wet get so weak. But everything else is good.
I just want to know anyone have try the s4 active and is it better? Thanksd.

I mean is it much durable in the water compare to xperia z? Have s4 active and xperia z but the active looks like its not that water proof necause of the back cover. Thanks

Swimming with XZ, man you are asking youself a trubble If the salt water gets inside you can expect your phone to die soon.
Once I had a sammsung. I probably wouldn't go near them again that oversaturated, kid looking screen is just not my cup of tea.

No man, all people saying that is bull.
Ita just all my waterproof phone moto defy, xperia active, xperia z been using them in salt water with no problem.
Just dont let the any water salt/fresh inside the phone then its all good.
And i dont care about amolet or not because its just a wate of time to argue all i want is that my screen is usable.
Im just afraid that the samsung active have a small rubber seal. Not like in xz all the port have big ass seal.

Both has the same ip7 so my guess is the same. From pocketnow review of s4 active, the screen of the active can't be used when it is wet while the z can. I mean Wet, not when submerged. For the speaker I'm not sure. Cause I don't have the s4 active hehe.

Active uses an Lcd screen, not amoled. So I guess it's not oversaturated like those amoleds One?

The active has a lower screen resolution and also only a 8 mega camera. Keep that in mind.

Xperia z is a lil better than the s4 active in some way,better camera and amazing design...i would stick with the z whatsoever

Nope it has the same screen resolution. 1920 by 1080 and same 441 ppi.

S4 active has better specs,snapdragon 600 to z's s4 pro. 2600 mah battery to z's 2330. Only the camera is 8mp.

True same regulation but a lower quality screen only a tft screen. And only 8 mega vs 12 on the xperia z.

Z's screen isn't any better. Tft too. To me, looking from YouTube reviews of z vs active, the active looks brighter and it looks better than the z. Maybe its just me. Hehe. And one advantage of the active is the flapless audio jack but I'll never trade the beautiful xperia z just for that.

TFT on the active vs the amolad screen on the S4 that's what I ment. The active is waterproof but specs wise the active isn't as good as the S4 and yes the flaps can be annoying but we'll I think so that the z looks better then the active. The Z actually has better specs then the active. In some areas.

I'm comparing the active with the z lol. The s4 isn't mentioned in op. Overall I think the active is better but I'm not really bothered with that. I'm happy with the z and I'll just wait for my contract to finish and see what's good in the future to replace the z.

Processor if it does make a difference which I believe does.Battery cause im a heavy user. The screen which looks better imo(from video review, not seen it myself) . Advertisement of it to actually be used to take photos under water. That's all I like. But I won't buy it.

U can take fine pictures and videos underwater with the xperia z. It always works for me just fine. And I agree I am a sucker for removable batteries. I do think the active is not a very good looking phone. Imo.

Yes I agree. Then some ppl will come in and say don't you read the manual? You can't bring in to the pool blah blah. The water resistance is just for accidents. Just because you have an airbag doesn't mean you go crash your car lol. I guess it's just to each of his own on how one wants to use it but not blaming Sony / anyone if it damages your phone.

Guys i already got the active.
Screen
And damn the screen is so better! Way better than my z
I dont care if its amoled or not. As long it is usable in light i dont care realy.
Battery
The active is longer but not much (on my use)
But hate the active for not having a dock or wireless charging. Im scared the flap might get thorn in time.
Build
Z is better. Because the back of active is very scary, i mean when putting it under water i get much more confident in my z. But the build quality is better than s4
Camera
The z of course.
Other thing i notice or my personal preferences
Gps lock better on active
Active is faster on daily basis but not much
And the speaker after getting wet is still very loud not like the z.
Im using my main phone is galaxy note 2
And my secondary phone i think ill be using active because of the battery.
But when im goint to the beach for vacation ill be using the z.
All i can say is that you canot go wrong with both phones.
Lets not hate active or z. Remeber its just a phone guys.

About to buy Xperia Z

Hi guys,
I just decided to buy Xperia Z since my Sensation XE was broken. Anyway, in this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=We0PqkUNDTA#t=186) I saw some lags when scrolling and trying to open camera app. Is that issue still continues? If there are lots of problems like that than I'm not gonna buy xperia z.

On latest firmware there are no lags anymore

I want a ps4 but have the same problem
What me did angry: the stock launcher loaded the interface really often. That I have noticed. But with a Gravity Box this problem was gone and it feels faster. So I can recommend you the Z.
But its always better if you can test it.

Exact difference between Z and ZL

Does anyone know what differences are stopping Z roms from running on the ZL? Aren't they almost the same device aside from a couple of minor things? (Camera Button and Infrared) Is it because the screen is different?
I tried searching but nothing gives exact details.

I saw yea, i have no idea why i thought it was the ultra haha.
But idd weird, they both have the same SoC.
Maybe make a full backup, and just try?

Our Z suuports 64Gb Micro SD card.... I've got one installed at the moment in my Z....

About 99% sure ZL supports 64GB too.

i had a visit in xperia showroom and i found that ZL screen quality is very poor from Z.

Yes ZL display clarity is poor compare to Z.. Don't know why..!!

Just tried cross flashing a rom to my ZL, BeanStalk 4.4, I had to remove the kernel and modify the updater script, I used the kernel from the CM11 build that's up for the ZL, and the rom works but the screen won't fully turn off, it'll just go black but not off and brightness control doesn't work. Wonder if it'd be possible to include the required files for both the Z and ZL screens...

Z or ZL?

I've an option of swapping my xperia z for a ZL for a small cost. What do u guys think? I love my ZL but the newer Z is tempting.
All opinions welcome . it will help me to decide

Zl is better if you want a compact phone, but i would go for the z, becoz it has more devs.

no..i meant Z..its new in the box. not newer than z1.
BTW i decided against this swap - went to a sony store to check out the Z against my ZL...didnt quite like the bigger size and the flaps ..have a sony digicam with the flap which broke in a year..so not a big fan of that design..plus it feels bigger in hand..so decided to keep my ZL even though the deal itself was definitely good ..

For me, the Z was too big.
Also, because of the shape and backplate, it's not comfortable to hold in 1 hand.
The ZL is much better, 7.5(!!)mm shorter and 2mm narrower.
Also has infrared and camera-button.
Z has more devs and waterproof.
Just decide which are important for you
