Hi guys, ever since I updated to kitkat, my Z1 could not read the micro SD. Anybody experiencing this?
Any fixes? Thanks in advance!
Sent from my C6903 using xda app-developers app
the fix below is for write to sd card. not sure u encounter is cannot write?
u need to root it. than download a app call NextApp SDFix.
another manual way is to add a line(below in BOLD) in platform.xml under /system/etc/permissions
<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE">
<group gid="sdcard_r"/>
<group gid="sdcard_rw"/>
<group gid="media_rw"/></permission>

Even with the fix that doesn't work correctly all the time.
I still have some problem with some apps like simply album or walkman that simply doesn't read the external SDCard, but that not all the time i have no idea why...
Reboot the phone doesn't solve it all the time and unmount/remount the external SDCard doesn't change anything as well.

You seem to slam the update a lot considering you have never tried it.
The fix works for me perfectly and I have not heard of anyone else saying anything else.

The fix using that app somewhat works for me, with some other explorer apps such as ES explorer, rootexplorer or Solid explorer, moving these apps (after installing them) to system/app gave me the full access to the SD card (Read/write).
This solution however did not work for me with Dolphin Browser (so that i can set my download folder to SDCard), it simply says that it has no access.

Yes, I do, in fact for many reasons like SD restrictions, even if there is a fix, and more reported issues which in % they are a lot, more from complaining about 4.2 or 4.3. From day 1 I search to get full access and data on my SD, because to me is a bid deal have data on SD "Natively". This really blow my mind as we want more control on our devices, instead we get more restrictions and we have to fight with all of them. All this at the moment stopping me from update.
Try the update and see for for yourself. It's a bit hard to give advice when you have not done it yourself.
I will try it with dolphin browser tomorrow and report back

No it's not, i need to unmount/remount the external SDCard and reboot the phone sometimes because some apps like Album or Walkman don't see anymore files on it.
You may want to do (some people suggestion):
1. Insert your SD card to your PC
2. Backup your SD card
3. Format your SD card
4. Copy 5 good picture/music/video to your SD card
5. Insert SD card to your device and check
6. If all good, copy your file to original but bit by bit and check if your SD card can still be read or no.

Yeah this KK update totally ruined the SDCard access, i've simply returned to 4.3 and that works perfectly.

Hi,
Since two days ago when i installed the Marvel ROM, I have the same problem. Cant see photos, music, etc... But if i go to Root Browser i see the photos on the SD Card.
Check if there is any .nomedia file in the root of sdcard or in your music/picture folders.
try what they said above and if it doesnt works...try defragmenting it using a pc
Hi there!
At the moment , I am in holiday and I'll arrive tomorrow. I will search in my sd for that .nomedia but I have a question...will sd defragmentation from phone work ? And how to do the defragmentation via pc? What programs should I use.
Thank you for your assistance. You are such a good community. Good night to every one!!

owh,..
thank bro for your advice,..:good:
Also be careful getting fake, imitation sd cards out there, it would cause you instability problems like those gallery messing up, occassionaly read write errors when rom flashing or install apps on sd, and sometimes you already deleted this photo/video and will show up later on, getting duplicate copies on thumbnail galleries but actually its the same, so when you delete one, you delete both. You really cant tell the difference from fake to original, most of the time its logo easily fades. Also get those made in japan, korea or taiwan, not those made in china.

Hey i be recently noticed a problem that every time I reboot my phone, my previous images from gallery and music from Apollo disappears.
I ran kaspersky on my phone but can't detect anything funny. Have also tried to load the videos in vlc but it doesn't work.
Other android users have faced some problems like this but a quick reformat of their card would erase this problem. In my case im not using ext SD card from the note, but using the internal sc card that is the mounted flash memory.

I have alerte from my V that the memory is almost full
I would like to know how can i move applicatiobn to the micro SD because the only option that i have in the menu "application" is to move from phone to internal storage
Someone have the solution to really use complementary memory or are we limited to the 4gb included into the phone for application ?
Thanks in advance
Use Link2SD. It can move applications to the SD card
Thank you but it doesnt work.
Infact android consider the second part of internal memory as a sd card and don t see the real card to move the application
The V have 3 memories :
Memory of phone
Internal memory
Sd card
The solution should be to invers the internal memoory and the sd card but how ?
Use directory bind. Works perfectly in mine.

How do we do it in V?.

Hey guys, everytime I use apps that move games to sd (GL 2 SD, Foldermount etc) my phone reboot itself when I try to enable it.
In Foldermount after you have moved it, you need to press on pin button, when I do that, phone restart. Same with GL 2 SD, press play and it restart. Anyone have any idea why this happen?
Before on 4.1.2 I use extsd2internalsd_xz method. Since it is not support on 4.2.2, I am on Root 10.3.1.A.0.244.

I do not use any of those apps, but yes, I believe that is normal. If I remember correctly, a symlink is created, which links the files to the internal memory. They are not actually on the internal card though.

Reboot the phone. It's possible your Memory Card has reached the end of its lifespan. SSDs don't last forever. After they die, you can only Read and not Write.

It's not about the age mate. It's about how many times, data has been written onto it. I think the limits on newer SSDs are about 10000000 times. I'm not sure, I read about that back in School during Computer class.

Some previous devices of mine needed to format the sd card after using it for something else.
Yes, that's correct. I didn't use it that much, there's no way this is the problem. Besides, at the end of it's lifecycle the memory starts to slow down, but you can still use it.
In my case it works, i can listen to music and install apps from it without any problems, but i can't copy or delete anything.

By the way, use the exFAT file system, it's 64 Bit and more efficient than FAT or FAT32 and is supported by most Android phones. I use exFAT on all my phones.

On kk and lp there are a limitation to use the sdcard from installed apps, the only app that have write permision is the File commander that comes preinstalled. If you wan's to have full rw you must be rooted and install "SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD" app from the PlayStore. After running the app and making it rw you can uninstall this app, and you will have rw access on sd.

Yeah, this is the exact problem. I tried File Commander and it works. It would be nice to have full access, but i'm on locked bootloader and rooting is too big of a hassle.
This is the only way to get write access. You can get root without unlock the bl with the giefroot from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3011598
