Is there a way to do the palm gestures on the Moto X using the front sensors like with the S4?
Say, while cooking, and browsing the recipe on a website, and I can't touch the phone so I need to scroll down with a palm gesture on the air, or back and forward websites...

hello,
i wanted to ask if it is possible to port Sailfish OS to the moto x.
The Hardware Adaption Kit for Sailfish was released some days ago. I can't program, neither am i an developer, so any chances that this could be ported, even if our device has a custom soc (moto's x8 soc) ?
here are documentations for the hardware development kit etc.

This would be really nice. Although i don't think i can live anymore without my active display and camera twist gesture.

active display is a feature i can't be away from, but the camera twist gesture is something i rarely ever use. I actually never use it because the camera is already so easy to get to by swiping left on the lock screen.
I've tried thr launcher and it didn't work well to me but... yeah, why not? I will try if someone can port it

The twist gesture from a dead sleep is hands down faster than using the lockscreen. You don't even need to be worried about the power button just twist and shoot
Sent from my XT1060
We could just try to flash cm11 then modify the contents of the sailfish os for hammerhead to be compatible with the moto x. Not saying its that easy. Given the sailfish os probably has its own custom kernel among other things like that. But it can be done I bet. Just get a talented dev down here and sure as hell we will have it
So, the IR blasters on the Moto X are pretty radical and Active Display really is perfect... well, almost.
Personally I think Active Display looks pretty bad, so I was wondering if it is possible to disable it and use Ambient Display from Lollipop instead? Will it function the same? What about third party apps like AcDisplay, are they capable of using the IR blasters?
On that note are there any other apps that can use the IR blasters for anything else, not necessarily for notifications?
According to Motorola if you use Ambient Display, Moto Display (Active Display) will be disabled meaning the gesture using the IR sensors will not work.
"The Moto Actions Approach gesture will not wake Ambient Display." -Moto X 2014 changelog
I was curious about this myself and was hoping there was a 3rd party solution for this. I too would like to use the approach gesture to turn on ambient display instead of active display.
These aren't ir blasters, they're just sensors.

+1! An exposed module would be great.
Using a Moto Maxx, but I guess it should work just the same right?
Can we reach a dev to get on board?
Moto display, the nexus version seems inferior to what the moto x has.
I'd like to be able to have moto actions too so that I see my notifications with a wave of my hand.
Moto Voice, on the moto x it's always on (even when the screen is off) and you can change the phrase from ok Google
And double twist to start the Camera
Also I'm coming from a locked BL Samsung so I'm used to features and lag, which nexus 6 rom has the most features?
Bro, go with Bliss Pop ROM. Feature packed and has the OK Google everywhere. As for the twist to start camera thing, would be cool to have but seems moot. I mean either swipe from the bottom right of the unlock screen or say OK Google, then launch camera.?
I want to upgrade my Moto X 2014 to android N but without losing his functions, and with an AOSP rom (can be CM based too)
We should stick a post on this matter, because people are either unable to read or too lazy to search.
There's basically four Moto features:
TWIST TO CAMERA: working in all ROMs (however, Moto Camera doesn't work with DPI other than 480)
CHOP TO TORCH: working in all ROMs
MOTO VOICE: NOT available, it's closed source so we have to manually tweak Google Now/Assistant to recognize our voice from a LOCKED, UNPLUGGED phone (see XDA homepage for a guide on this)
MOTO DISPLAY: NOT available, there's a modified Ambient Display that uses the same sensors (including IR, of course) and it works pretty well.
However, Moto and Ambient are NOT the same thing: Moto is a dedicated app which shows your notifications in a streamlined way and it will keep them in the panel even if you swipe them out of sight; moreover, it will not wake your entire screen if you touch the black area outside the clock/notifications.
Ambient Display, on the other hand, is simply a grayscale lockscreen. It's not nearly as practical as Moto, but the sensors to activate it are the same.
Can someone please make this post a sticky so people do not ask the same questions a hundred more times?
Found this thread, it was modded for the Moto Z, but it is working great on my Moto X Pure XT1575. The new Moto actions will not install though.

Great find! Finally moto display makes sense after this update. Thanks a lot!
the moto displaye works.. but moto action while installing doesn't even open the file.. it throws error..
there was problem while phrasing the package
On moto x style Nougat it work but it forces wave to wake. Disabling it in moto action do nothing. Wave to wale is a battery hog on nougat so i has to uninnstall

nougat itself is battery hog on this phone, I don't see difference with wave to wake enabled or disabled
The new motodisplay is dumber than the old one. It used to not unlock when i cover the proximity sensor, even if i tried to drag down. This though, it unlocks even my finger is on the sensor.

also it sometimes constatnly flashes even in the pocket so it drains battery quite fast ;\
I don't get notifications for Gmail
So how to uninstall this? Can't find the uninstall button except disabling it, doing which disables the original Moto display too.
Answer: Go to play store. Search for Moto Display and click uninstall.
