Thought about it, in a perfect world where I am a billionaire then yes (I'd have every phone so it prob wouldn't matter) but unfortunately that is not a reality and going from S800 to S800 doesn't make sense when I would prob have to pay about $150-200 difference or use an upgrade.
It does look hot and mSD slot would be nice
Dear God I would have so many phones if I was rich lol

Yeah, i've checked it out. My buddy has one. I love the G2 but i can't get over the God awful call quality for people on the other end, no one can hear me. Our local Verizon store actually doesn't carry the G2 anymore because of so many complaints/returns(yes, I've returned mine). The SD slot is also a huge plus for me, and i have to have a case, my 2 year old that thinks my phone is a football
and I never said I was getting rid of the G2

I hear ya, call quality seems fine for me and coming from the og razr the battery life is stellar. That's a big deal for me. But I gotta say, I was considering burning an update for the m8 after seeing it. Especially with the digital dots flip case and kitkat out of the chute. There's even a root exploit now and a bounty for s-off. Performance-wise though it seems like a lateral move.

Yeah, it'll be a minor bump if any performance wise. Root is all I need, if that (you can tell I'm gettin old), build quality, battery, and storage are what have me interested. Plus it seems as if HTC is really stepping up their game on keeping devices updated. I'll pm you my thoughts after I have it a day or two.

Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
I love the G2, but the fact that is is the best kept secret phone makes me think that the phone will receive updates infrequently, especially on Verizon. I do not think that there will be any huge bump in what a phone can do for 2013. It looks like the only think that will separate phones are the chip and the camera. The M8 has the best chip in the the Snapdragon 801. It also offers the knock on from the Lg G2. That is a feature that I have grown to love. I burned an update to replace my wife's m7.
I can not wait for it to come tomorrow in the mail. I hope the official kit kat version will be released by Verizon. I want to try the manual update but I do not want to damage my phone.

Meh, the 801 is the same exact chip as the 800 just a little more refined. The S5 and Z2 also have 801s. On paper they're a smidge faster but not worth the smaller screen and smaller battery and worse camera.
Plus the metal body sounds and feels good but my Leveno has an aluminum body and whenever it hits something, it's permanent.
Even the S5 has a smaller screen and larger housing. Tap on isn't new, but LG was the first to implement it as a stock feature.
Even Paul O'Brien says he misses his G2 compared to the M8. There are also some serious issues with the phone too if you research it. They're trying to fix the bugs but your mileage may vary on a carrier locked model. Plus with kit Kat out of the box, you'll not have Root. They haven't been able to root Kit Kat yet from my understanding.
I'm not saying the M8 or S5 is a bad phone, just a downgrade from the G2.
LG has shown us some pretty speedy updates. Even on Verizon we've ready gotten 10A, 11B, 12A, and 24A since November. LG is really pushing updates. Plus the dev community is crazy on the G2.
I'm stopping but you get my point.

I'd have to agree the only thing I'd take to replace my vs980 would be a new not refurbed vs980. Do I wish the g2 had better speakers and aluminum sure but honestly I love the quick case so it wouldn't really matter I wouldn't carry it naked anyway.

Will wait and compare the M8 with the LG G3. One or the other, probably. Definitely NOT the GS5.
I've been so impressed with the G2, think I'll be staying with LG unless they somehow screw up the next iteration.
The battery alone is worth me staying with the G2. I go the whole day and conserving battery or plugging in never crosses my mind. Once 4.4 is OTA and source is released, there will be a bunch of stable KK ROMS that will receive support for some time. This will carry me at least until the next gen flagships, which the S5 and M8 are not.

Yea looks like the M8 is rootable now with HTC Weak sauce. Looks like HTC is unlocking the bootloaders per request and allowing TWRP custom recoveries too. Carriers who have locked the bootloaders will be unable to flash recoveries at this time.
Good news for M8 users.
Hardware is still too much of a downgrade for me though.

Just left Verizon... without the m8. I wasn't impressed. I wanted to be, but it's not a big enough upgrade. I'll just deal with the call quality issues on the g2. (our great dev community may have played a role in me not picking up the m8 also)

I got invited to LGs city tour in Seattle where I will be given a G2 for free. But I don't know if I want to give up my HTC one soon. I've only had it a few months. It's been such a great device! Never had a big issue with the low light tint. Everything about the device has always worked flawlessly with me. It's such a beast and I love that it has 2 speakers and they are on the front of the phone. It's came in handy so many times. Basically the HTC one is one of the best handsets out there. In my opinion the best available for sprint.
I'm torn between giving that up next month for the g2. In your opinions what would you do? The specs of the g2 are obviously much better than the one in every way including the battery. But it's also LG. They don't have a great history with high end devices. They released their first one barely over a year ago. It did great. Got rated the highest of it's time. I used to have the device and I loved it. The camera could have been better but with the HTC one having similar specs to the optimus g I clearly chose the HTC one.
Sorry for rambling lol I'm just curious what you guys think.
Additionally: the people over in the optimus g threads are great with getting working leaks way before sprint drops the official OTA. I've noticed with the One it's not as easy as nothing for the sprint version is ever leaked and shared to us here. It's been teased by a few but never shared. LG wins in that area.

I was struggling with this aswell..... i decided to get the one, better build quality, better sound, great devo community. the g2 on the other hand uses triband lte which would be nice while i was working so i could have slightly better lte. however looking at the build quality on the g2 and the back buttons pretty much made my mind up.
I'd go with the G2. The only thing wrong with it is it has a very ugly skin.
I'm an One owner.
g2 has
better camera
faster processor
One has
better build quality (and style for that matter)
better speakers
cant talk and surf interwebs on g2...... on the one you can. unless your on wifi than with the g2 you can
The One does not have SVDO, unless I missed something.

Can only do this while on LTE... just like all the other phones. Very few sprint phones can use 3G and talk at the same time.
I SAY G2, only because its triband lte. that way you are set for the future when smr 800 mhz lte is live in your area and the band 41 lte goes online as well
if their gonna give it to you for free take it say thank you and sell or give to me if you don't want to use it.

I'm kind of surprised with some of the negative G Flex reviews and how some people don't even give the phone a chance. Is Samsung paying them? lol The curved design is not a gimmick. It's pretty damn impressive. IMO The phone just feels right in my hands/face and fits better in my pocket. I was impressed with how LG fit a 3000mAh battery in the compact size of the G2 which is what I had before the Flex. Now after using the Flex for a week LG has impressed me even more with battery life. I know the Flex has a bigger battery by 500mAh compared to the G2 but seems to last twice as long as the G2. Why is that? Probably because of the 720p display right? If so I might be the only one but I think LG was smart doing that. I got annoyed at times having to charge my G2 during the day. I just charge my Flex when I sleep. I think the 720p display is sharp and I have no ghosting. As you can tell I'm very happy with the Flex even coming from a G2.
I ignored all the bad reviews concerning the screen display and I'm happy with my flex coming from a N3... Battery life is superior and I'm only on my 2nd week with this phone.

I must of got lucky. I got mine in Columbus Ohio at a tmobile store and no ghosting issue for me. I do have a grainy appearance to the screen. But turn brightness up and your good if it bothers you. I doesn't for me. I tell you this coming from the note 2 to gs4 the screen was the difference maker for me. But took the hit in battery life never again not worth it if you ask me. I rather have a good to mediocre screen. ( which the flex doesn't have a crappy screen at all just a different technology). And just because everybody's using one type of screen doesn't make it a better just differently.
I personally got tired of Samsung and touchwiz. So I switch will I have the flex for ever? No I won't I will jump in six to eight months from now and into something else that give excellent battery life with killer specs. I don't regret getting the flex we already know what coming down the pipeline anyways. Oh wait let me guess.... HTC flagship, Samsung flagship, LG flagship, new nexus and also ios. It never changes people the flex got me because it's different and I personally didn't want to have compositive keys or hardware buttons such as home and back. Grow tired on rooted to gain this feature. That left me 4 choices nexus, Sony, and lg g2 or the lg g flex I went with the flex because it was the newest device that they had available and don't regret it. Yeah the note 3 is a nice device but my last 3 phones were all Samsung and like I mentioned before I grow tired and was wanting other features that Samsung couldn't offer. Just my 2 cents.
Sent from my LG-D959 using Tapatalk
no ghosting for me either, and with the brightness turned up to 60%-70%, completely grainy free..
I had the same issue with the stupid reviewers on my htc one max; that too was a great phone, but, every doosh bag reviewer found something bad to say about it. Fortunately, I have my own brain, and dont give a rats arse what any "reviewer" has to say about any electronic item I buy.
Sprint network still sucks, and because of that, I had to sell my one max, and our 2 htc one's. We all changed to T-Mobile, and are thrilled with the network coverage and speed outside of Chicago now!
4 Samsung phones in a row was enough for me, and especially with the Knox security Krap they are forcing on every one now..Lg phones are really nice, and my wife and son really like their G2's. We'll see whats out there 6 months from now, but if dev picks up for the flex, I doubt I will want to get rid of it for longer than that; the best battery I have ever seen in a phone. Now, if they would just come up with stereo front facing speakers for this beast!!
Crazy I'm in Columbus, Ohio but I got my Flex online from T-Mobile. Maybe if people don't put a magnifying glass over the phone they might enjoy it. LoL. My only issue if you call it a issue is that I want to carry the Flex naked but it's not easy to do plus risky business.

I just got the Flex, my reason was the negative reviews. I have a Note 3, while I'm not convinced yet that it's better. I'm open to giving it a chance. I like my stylus. Lol.
Sent from my LG-D950 using Tapatalk
I've only read one review that gave it a thumbs up. It was a woman who reviewed it after having it for a week or so. She gave it 8/10 and I tip my hat off to her. She has small hands and looked past the size of the phone, and just reviewed it straight up.
I don't like reviewers who say the phone is comically large, and the curve of the device is a novelty. That's an opinion. Although reviews should have your opinion, it shouldn't blind you from fact. What's large for you isn't large for me. What fits in your purse, fits in my pocket. Blah blah blah. Anyway I like the Flex, not for what it is, but I like it because its just a better device than its competitors.

I'm happy with the G Flex. I was going to get the nexus 5, but the battery inside of the G Flex was appealing. The only downside I see about this beast of a phone is that there isn't expandable storage and that it's running 4.2. I do notice some of the screen issues, but I can live with it. I can't wait for development for this phone to really start.

Keeping my SIM unlocked M7 on T-Mobile because I get great LTE everywhere around Brea, Yorba Linda, Anaheim at $70 unlimited everything.
Using an upgrade for the M8 (Best Buy has Gold and Gunmetal Black for Sprint at $199) in about a week. The same area has great Spark coverage. My M7 is customized exactly how I want it with all of the possible extras but the M7 feels like an American muscle car (powerful sturdy with straight lines) and the M8 is like a Ferrari with blazing speed and great curves. I was using the store salesman model and I got a pop up to swipe up with 5 fingers I believe and I was instantly connected with 7 TV's across the store. I just hope Spark is somewhere near these pics I have seen ...the map says I am in the center of a big area of coverage

If it only cost you around an "upgrade cost" it's worth upgrading. If you had to pay no contract price no it's not worth it.
My HTC One M7 has the original wide dynamic range dual mics. It's a very overlooked feature that just rocks.
Could care less about camera gimmicks.
Camera seems about the same. And it's fine.
I do like the SD card.
I still prefer the size of the M7, it was perfect. And it's weight.
Sound wise it sounds the same. And that's with beats off on the HTC One M7. With beats on I suspect M7 sounds better.
I prefer headphone jack on top.
Sense 6 is no biggy, but it is a tad nicer.
My wife has the HTC One M7 now. The clarity on phone calls between them is extremely good.
M8 does seem to pull LTE better and maybe transition better between 3G and LTE better (maybe). Does some funky things (Spark things I guess).
It's not a huge upgrade for sure.
I was converted to lg with Nexus 4, and have stuck with them. I was a long time HTC fan, but the g2 is the best phone I've ever owned.
I'm a little disappointed in the news on g3. It seems the screen will be bigger and a higher resolution, but the battery is staying the same? Isn't this going to severely change the battery life?
The processor isn't going to be the LG octa core we had hoped for, I am just really not too excited. Anyone have any good news?

G2 is still good I'll wait for G4, I think they are aiming too high on G3 with bigger screen and same battery size
I just don't get it sometimes. People are killing the HTC M8 and even more so the Galaxy S5 for being "more of the same", so LG works on a totally revamped UI, a (industry first) 2k screen and more that's yet to be seen and people are now complaining because they're "reaching too high"?
I understand the battery concerns, but that's speculation at this point. I am not a huge fan of the UI, but I also hated the original UI on my G2, it's grown on me with the help of LGs built in themes. I, for one, am glad they are trying to make their phones drastically different.

Honestly, with viper4android installed, along with a few sound increasing options ticked on it, my phone speaker is rediculously loud, stock its pretty quiet, but the potential for it to be loud is there.
I think HTC will inevitably be gone. Everytime one of the people does something that is of really high quality, such as their recent design guy, they leave. LG is one company that has the resources to go toe to toe with Samsung and Apple. I'm not complaining, I just don't want them to lose the momentum they gained. As for LG ui? I loved it from jump... Much better than Sense or TW

The new UI will surely be ported to the G2 at some point, as for the hardware, I don't think they shot high enough. The hardware changes between the G2 and G3 just are not enough to warrant the cost in my opinion. I am with others, I will wait for the G4 or 5 before I make any changes. The larger screen higher res but same battery is going to be an issue. I guess we will see.

It comes down to what's available. None of the new phones this year were massively better than last year. And battery technology has become lateral. 1080p is already as good as it can get..2k? Will or can anyone tell? The cameras are the only real place for drastic improvements and both HTC and Samsung failed to deliver. These companies keep pushing out phones because they have too now. Annual flagships are almost required to stay relative even when the technology doesn't support the need to upgrade. I'm excited to see what Motorola will do next. They're the only phone manufacturer last year that didn't use the latest and greatest and still hit the mark. Better camera, better battery life and better screen. all fairly easy to obtain. And they have a homerun

I'm also curious if Verizon will pick up the Sony phone. That could be interesting

Forgot which site it was but they reported on a rumor stating it would be coming to Verizon. Seeing as how Sony is facing manufacturing delays though in other markets who knows when it will finally come to the US.
As for the G3 I'm just hoping Verizon doesn't push LG around in order to have a unique variant like they did with the G2. It results in a very limited amount of cases to choose from when compared to the standard model.

I dunno if you guys have heard of Flowly (App that has several sources for Android news like Phandroid, AH, AC, etc) but I read a few articles on there that said the Sony Xperia Z2 will not be coming to any US carriers, not even T-Mobile. They'll sell unlocked phones in the US but that's it. I don't know why, but it seems like something on Sonys end is causing issue since not a single carrier will be selling it. It's lame IMO, but things like that are why Sony doesn't matter when it comes to anything Android.

I have grown very fond of the wireless charging though.
Yeah its cool, but I'm tired of being the bastard model too. Cases are hard to find. I'm anti iPhone but if iPhone 6 looks cool, I'm tempted to get it just so I can play with cases for a bit

You should be kicked out of your own thread for saying that. Lol
We don't need a 100 cases. I'll gladly take Qi charging over standard back design. I only wish Verizon hadn't changed the back buttons.
Worry about locked bootloaders, not cases.

That bootloader is what worries me. Since they blocked Loki with KK, the G3 is going to be in the same boat. But this time with no way to push a loki'd aboot since there won't be one.

You mean You don't need cases and prefer wireless charging. You don't speak for everyone tho. I care less about wireless charging but enjoy a variety of cases to mix it up.
I agree on the boot loader. Its gonna suck

Do you guys think the g2 will get updated to have the new gui?
Let's discuss other g3 features and stuff that we hope will come to g2 here as well since there's lots of excitement over it and so we don't clutter other threads

No it's not out yet. It was just revealed today. Im probably not gonna upgrade because besides slight camera improvements the main difference is just the screen. Sadly its not water proof. Im hopefully gonna keep my g2 until the next xperia phone comes out and i hope they can slim their bezels as much as lg did

Screen, microsd card, 3GB of ram depending if its available via our carrier, and better performing camera.
Screen I'm not too excited for but it should be a pleasurable viewing experience when it dwindles down to everyday usage but possible battery killer
MicroSD is a huge plus, I've had issues with using up too much of my storage to where I can't even make nandroid backups so this is a dream come true
3GB of ram is another perk that you probably would not notice the difference in having, the current G2 doesn't have any ram issues (at least mine never did) to where the extra ram would be a major game changer
and the camera, I think it probably could end up being a toss-up whether or not its better than anything out now. The stock camera APK that came with the G2 was sub-par until people released modded camera APK's and that made me much happier. So if that's the case with the G3 then there is no real reason to complain/brag because someone will eventually fix the annoyances
Factoring all that in, I'll most likely be jumping to the G3 to see how well it is as a daily over my G2 and justify if its worth paying the $300 price tag within the satisfactory period
Don't think it's available until July 1st, and knowing Verizon add some absurd amount of time for their release. The resolution would be the main attractor as I could care less about removable battery and micro SD. But another thing that concerns me is in a youtube initial review it seems that the G3 also has aggressive thermal throttling. I do wonder if the 801 can handle the extra pixel density being pushed especially in games once they're updated for the new resolution. The 805 is apparently having heating issues in smaller devices, so there is some speculation it will only be used in tablets or bigger at this moment. I wonder if for the rest of the releases this year it wil be 801 and the 805 will be skipped for the 810.
If LG doesn't update the G2 with the new UI, I'm sure someone here will port it over.
yeah to be honest, I don't have a desire to get it. it's a slight upgrade over the g2 and now it's getting way too big. I like my g2 and i'm gonna stick with it.

I'm wondering if some dev will be able to take advantage of the laser focus camera option. Maybe turn it into a laser pointer lol
Sent from my LG-VS980 using Tapatalk
No desire here. The stock UI is prettier, but that's in the eye of the beholder. The screen looks gorgeous I'm sure, but the problem is that I feel like it is a bit much both for the battery and the chipset for relatively little perception gain in appearance. The laser focus thing is cool if it works as well as advertised. But really my biggest concern is the hardware keeping up with that many pixels, especially during things like gaming. It may be okay for a while but as updates come and things become heavier to match heavier chipsets I think the 801 may start to seem a bit weak for it. Time will tell, but even if this weren't a factor, I wouldn't upgrade. Just not worth the money for that little gain, when I have a phone that is as close to unlocked I'm going to get on Verizon, as well as some phenomenal developers. Who's to say this won't be as locked down as Samsung's offerings?

If we can't get root our recovery it would be the suck to get a g3

I second this. I have been eager to go back to moto. Their build quality is top notch......at least it was when I owned a DX.

I myself can live with the logos all over the phone just hope the specs are same for all the LG g3 so the cases wouldn't be so different types. I am willing to bet though we aren't so lucky.

Think again about the G3. Their thread is blowing up with issues regarding heat, poor battery life, and what sounds like some pretty prevalent scrolling/ui lag. Sounds like the Adreno 330 is under powered for the pixel density.

I don't see a point in upgrading since the g2 practically runs great with the LG g3 ported rom. The only thing that caught my attention was the SD card and removable battery but even that doesn't wow me enough to make the switch. I am going to stick with my g2 for as long as I can.
