So I am tired of my phone saying New message on the lock screen. I have tried going into the settings and trying message preview, but it shows the message. All I want on the lock screen is to preview who sent me the text and not what it says. Is there any way to do this?
Thanks in advance.

GO TO SMS Main screen -> menu-> more -> check preview message

Download handcent from the playstore. You can set the notification to display what you desire.

Handcet is pretty good. You can also try Go sms pro. There are sone alternatives if you browse the "related" section in the play store.

Hello everyone,
I want to get the note 4 but I have noticed on kit kat the lockscreen policy app doesn't work. I really don't want the camera button there & I would like my messages to appear as an icon like 4.3 and the capability of reading it from my notification screen. I know I can disable the messaging portion of it but, if I do it will still pop up saying new message on the lock screen & can't read it from the notification screen. Any recommendations or suggestions?
Go to Settings/Lock Screen. Untick the Camera Shortcut option.

Thanks for the advice. The camera icon is no longer there however, i still see the messages appear on the screen. Is there a manual way to remove this or an xposed tweak?
Any updates on how to get rid of the message icon ( circled in red )
But keep the message icon? (8circled in blue)
Hello,
Just bought a Z3 compact recently and since yesterday (didn't install anything new, no special changes...), whenever I receive a message via the messaging app (stock, no hangout, it is disabled), the icon show, the phone vibrate or rings when needed, but doesn't show the message preview. I have to slide the statusbar to see it...
I have show notifications checked, no other app reading notifications.
Any help? I don't believe and I don't want to go through a factory reset because of only that :/

No, the messaging app is enabled there ^^'
Message preview, you know, the message being displayed on the statusbar when you receive a message (you don't have to slide the notifications bar to see it)
Yes, I have the same. When message arrives and screen is off then its nothing except led blink. I think that change with 5.0 update

The problem is that, even with screen on, it still doesn't scroll the text preview when I receive a message. I also have to add that everything else works (It does scroll down the data off info for example)
I do hope Lollipop will solve that, but it'll be long before it starts rolling.
Then just install Textra instead default messaging app

But don't you think there is another solution beside running another messaging app? (hangouts runs just fine but meeeh)
I am having trouble with the brief pop-up style notifications working. Whenever I get a notification it should pop up near the front facing camera, whether the screen is on or off. I'd say 95% of the time it does not pop up, but it seems to randomly. I have enabled all apps to pop up, and have tried with only some apps. Neither seem to work. Does anyone have a solution to this?
Thanks!
not enough to enable app , inside every app in notification u must see and apply POPUP , make sure of that
That worked, thanks so much!!

I followed your suggestion and it works! Unfortunately, I've got a new problem with messenger automatically turning off "show as pop-up". I have no idea why..... But everytime it has a new notification, it will turn off itself without any changing from me. Let my screenshots describe. The first pic is before the new message comes, the second pic is after.
go inside setting / notification / messenger /notification categorises , check them all inside each one

I think AOD (Always On Display) has something to do with it but it seems that the option to change the custom text on Lock Screen is removed from OP10 Pro. If true, it is pretty stupid. I mean remove the text set during earlier OS versions and remove the option.
Now I have a text there which could be a wrong info (ex-wife and such) but no option to edit/remove it!
Any help please.
I think you are looking for this...
Settings; personalizations; always on display; display settings; display message.
Is that it?
First of all, thanks for replying.
I do not have Personalizations at all, under Settings. "Always-On Display" is found under Settings > Wallpapers and style > AOD. Under this > More Display Settings > Info does show some info that I can add/remove, but can't edit the message that was already set before OOS13
BTW I am on OOS13.0 (Android 13), v NE2211_11_C.20. No root, no magisk, no customization of any type!
Same problem

Made an account just to post this and come out of my lurker hole.
To get Google pay option in the lock screen shortcut section available, I have to open "wallet" from the status bar drop down menu. If you open the wallet app this will not work.
Once wallet is opened from the drop down menu's icon, three dots on top right will have 1 option for lock screen settings. Click that and the first option is to change lock screen message text and the first toggle option is to allow wallet access from lock screen shortcut.
Here you can fix your text and or make that other setting available for use.
These lock screen settings are only accessible through this drop down quick menu that I have found and not the wallet app for some odd reason.
I accidentally set a "test" text to see where it would be placed and then couldn't get back to the setting and spent the next 8 hours trying to find it.
Hope this helps all who are as confused as I was.
Probably try Google Assistant application, by voice searching through it for "lock screen text" . It worked for me on Android 13 (OnePlus phone)

The issue is with the AOD custom text message, not the locksreen one.
