How to flash a 4.4 rom without the use of rooting and only using unlocked boot loader. I don't want to downgrade my device and I don't want root at this stage just want to run a 4.4 rom that is very similar to the current sony stuff, I am happy to do a clean install if necessary. I am sorry if this has been asked before, I could not find this doing a search before posting.
Please don't spam this posts about what is best and worst only want something very simple and easy to install and not something in development as when kk is available for my device I will be flashing that.
Thank you in advance
Easy, download latest Cyanogen Mod. Zip, extract the boot.img from the zip (this is the kernel) and pit zip on your phone/sd card
Open a Fastboot Cmd prompt on your pc, type "Fastboot flash boot boot.img" then after its that's done type "Fastboot reboot"
When the led turns on press vol up to enter recovery and wipe data/factory reset (you need to going from stock to Cm/AOSP, flash the Cyanogen mod zip, reboot and enjoy.

Also rereading your thread, all the 4.4 roms are based on AOSP so your desire for them to be like current Sony offerings just isn't gonna happen. The closest thing to 4.4 Sony is eXistenZ v 6.6 in the android development section. It has alot of the features and apps from the Xperia Z2 4.4 ported over though it is actually a 4.3 rom. It's the closest you can get to Sony 4.4 until an official kitkat update drops

Is the second rom easy to flash or is root required?
since you have unlocked bootloader already, could you explain why you want to do it without root?
I am pretty sure your phone needs root access to be able to replace the system files.
The only 4.4 you can flash is cyanogenmod, which is different to sony one.
if you want something similar to sony 4.4, you can flash existenz rom, it is still based on 4.3, but functions very similarly to 4.4 from the Z2.
You cannot flash a 4.4 rom and not have root - the custom kernel required for the role s have root access inbuilt. So no, you don't need to root your phone yourself, flashing the kernel from the rom via your unlocked boatloader will automatically root it.

No it wont root device even if kernel is insecure and all

And that can be done from recoveries

Have you actually flashed a custom recovery? If so, the thread for the recovery will tell you how to enter it. You usually press one of the volume keys when the phone is booting.

I'm not sure you do know. I assume your previous device was a Motorola. Xperia devices don't have a boot options menu.
If you want to enter recovery mode, you need to actually flash a custom recovery first.

I unlock the bootloader on my xperia z and then I rooted newest firmware 10.3.1.A.0.244 by following the instructions from hire http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386405 . And everything worked as it should. Than I instal recovery and android 4.3 from hire http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354328 . Then the problems started, I tried to install app via recovery, but android did not want to boot. I decided to go back to 4.2 with 10.3.1.A.0.244 kernel, but it was no longer possible to root the phone and every time when I install recovery android will not to boot. Is there any idea about my problem. Sorry for my english
Do you want to stay on 4.2 or 4.3, just flash the kernel you need via fastboot or flashtool then that will give you a recovery to then install custom roms. As you are on a unlocked bootloader it is a lot easier to root just search for supersu cwm installation and that will root your device.

Flash rom you need (a lot of Roms are pre rooted. If not then once loaded new rom install supersu zip and there you are done. Kernel with cwm, custom rom and rooted device

Hello in need of some serious help my xperia z was rooted but with locked bootloader i tried to flash a app thru Teamwin it sent me into a boot loop so now all the phone does is flash team win then turn off and on it has a solid purple light any help will be appreciated and i will make a donation thru paypal for anyone that can help!!
Seems can be fixed very easy:
Either fire up PCC and choose repair phone.
Else download Flashtool, disable force driver signing and install the following drivers from Flashtool:
- Xperia Z
- Fastboot
- Flash mode
Then download a ftf with stock firmware, and Flash it using Flashtool.
Et voilá, your phone is back with the livings.
If you can't find a ftf, just ask me, i'll upload mine tomorrow.

While phone is in usb bootloader mode, type in cmd "fastboot erase Cache" and it should return to normal.
Btw: have you flashed anything that would make this happen? Like kernal or mods?

Read the op on how to install whatever mod you want to flash and make sure it's a flashable zip through recovery. The sound mod might have done it if you didn't install it right. I don't think you need a flash tool to flash the mod and you could have done it through your phone's recovery.

Hello everyone,
i want to install a custom Rom, unlocked the Bootloader and tried to install CWM by using LeBobo's Recovery Flasher v1.4. I get a success-message in the command prompt, but it seems that CWM isn't installed. When i reboot into Recovery i get a broken Android Symbol.
I have attached two Pictures, perhaps you know what to do now?!
Thank you very much!
Getting the broken Andriod symbol is normal.
You need to press Vol+ and Vol- together to get into the menu.
I have found that you need to press and release them both together about 4 times to get in. But I'm only on the stock recovery so CWM may be a little different.
Hope you find a way in!!
Regards
Hill-Climber
Ok, now i'm in... But not CWM. Android System Recovery <3e>... Seems that CWM hasn't been installed
I have also tried and failed with the Lebobo method.
I have not had this confirmed and cannot find the answer but suspect you have to unlock the bootloader before you can install CWM or any otehr custom recovery. Hopefully someone will answer this soon.
Is your bootloader unlocked?

My bootloader is unlocked (i see the Text Screen when booting)... I will try another method this evening...
I have searched everywhere in dozens of posts about using the CWM recovery and backup and tried several things with no luck.
What I have: sony xperia tl lt30at, rooted, locked bootloader, 4.1.2 JB, .120 build#
What I think I have: CWM Recovery
What I am trying to do: Install XperimenT Custom ROM or some ROM that will work with lt30at (I just want to make something work)
What's stopping me thus far: I can't Backup my Stock ROM and can't get into Recovery
So far i have successfully rooted my phone and I believe that I have installed a CWM-based recovery --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012738 I have the zip file to the ROM that I want to use but I can't/don't want to do anything until I create a Backup of my stock ROM. I tried to do this through ROM Manger but every time I try it only reboots my phone without saving the backup. I read that I could create a Backup in Recovery mode but I'm also having trouble getting there. This makes me believe that I don't have CWM installed but the code in CMD read that it was successfully installed and I have a folder for it.
My Questions: Am I doing something wrong? Have I left out a step? Is this impossible to do with a locked bootloader?
Thanks in advance!
Try rebooting the phone and pressing volume up repeatedly when you see the Sony logo. Don't bother with rom manager.

Well you have not installed recovery then.
Read the all in one thread, especially post 2 and 3, and see how to install recovery properly.
I had my phone download this and then just copied it off. My phones build was 98.18.94. Not sure what the difference between this and 98.30 is. I'm rooted so I haven't installed it but it's here for anyone that wants it. My phone downloaded a different version than I found online. It was version 182.46.10XT907.Verizon.en.US. I don't know what other phone builds it will work with. Either way use at your own discretion.

My understand is that it should leave the bootloader unlocked. It will replace the recovery, radio and other system partitions. If you removed anything from the /system/apps folder then I think it will fail/abort install. I've removed some so I need/want to RSD back to stock and then update but if I do then I'll lose root which I use.
Yes, and with SELinux and some other enhancements in KitKat I wouldn't even take a future root for granted.

Posting updates on how to use this thru the stock recovery.
This is how it is supposed to be used:
1 - Flash LATEST stock SBF of JB thru RSD. (Android 4.1.2
Blur_Version.98.30.1.XT907.Verizon.en.US)
2 - After RSD flash reboot phone on stock recovery and proceed to install update from SD card, here select the file that is provided at the beginning of the thread.
3 - After this first flash completes, phone is going to reboot in recovery again, to open the menu of this specific recovery, the combo of the buttons is power + vol up.
4 - proceed to install from sd card again and select the same file that you selected on the second step.
5 - Wait for it to finish
6 - Wipe data/factory reset
7 - Select restart system, Phone will restart in KK, enjoy guys.
Keep in mind that you have to follow the explanation at the beggining of the thread or this one, if you dont follow this steps like this, you wont be able to install this update or you wont be able to finish installing the update.
is this the offical KK update?
Yes it is official. Like I posted earlier, its OTA from Verizon.

I doubt it. It's for stock phones. It will need a stock recovery I do believe.
Hmmm..
My razr is stock & rooted, and I have manually removed several bloat apps. If I attempt to this update ota could it cause any harm to my system aside from possible abort/update fail? Will it remove root? Gracias.

My understanding is you can retain some root functionality using SuperSU Pro's Survival Mode. I believe you'll still lose R/W capability.
The best approach would be to unlock your bootloader. I've heard some success with custom recovery, though stock recovery would be best bet.

This method did not work for me after i flashed back to 98.30.1 the stock recovery doesnt see the update and i just get the android logo. When i go to software updates the service is unavailable/
my bootloader has unlock. and does it mean I can have root permission after I flash the stock zip package?
OK here it is, black and white and very simple:
Bootloader Locked - NO ROOT, NO CUSTOM RECOVERY.
Bootloader Unlocked - CWM Recovery and FULL ROOT with SuperSu.
That's it, no if ands or buts.
