[Q] intermitent Wi-Fi 4.3 - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

ok i brought my mates GT-I9305 , it was flashed with a custom rom ( i think ) 4.12 i couldn't update rom ( then i used odin flashed to EE uk 4.30 stock rom) and was able to update from the phone ( when the WiFi worked ) finished off using KIES , ive still got intermittent use of WiFi ( he told me it had this prroblem when i brought it ) , there is a 1 flash on the binary counter , i was wondering if there was a way to get wifi sorted ( if its a known prroblem by flashing again with a custom rom ) or could i get rid of the binary counter and send to samsung under the warranty ?? decisions decisions , ive downloaded the yellow triangle app , but phone isnt rooted ( dont know what is the best proggie to use )
thank you for your time in reading this

what android version are you on now? do you have that knox bootloader? ( reboot to download and check if it says knox warranty void on the botom )....if not you are in luck... root, use triangle away, flash the right firmware from http://samfirmware.com/ and you cand send it to warranty....
if you have knox ****er(that one in download mode) and is 0x0 try to root without tripping it...use triangle away, install original firmware and send it...
if knox couter = 0x1...there is no point in sending it to warranty...

try to flash the firmware for your phone from samfirmware.com...it will increase counter to 2, but it will still be offcial, knox counter will still be 0x0...
and if it doesn't work you can definitely send it to warranty....there will be no problem...don't try to root it..to use triangle..you might trip knox counter.

The firmware on it is the official one now with the screen shot above, will I be able to send it back warranty ? Without trying to reset binary counter ?

yes it will...the custom counter shows how many firmwares have you flashed...since status is Samsung Official you only flashed firmware from samsung...don't try to reset it..just send it back....but before do a factory reset and wipe cache if you haven't done this. maybe it will work...if not definitely send it back.
for them it will look like you tried to fix the problem by flashing another original firmware = counter 1...

Contacted them today , they are sending out a jiffy bag
They said It week take 10 days , which ia cool as I'm using a moto G anyway
Thank you very much for help will keep posted to what The outcome is .

SWEET it came back today i think with new hardware and i need to unlock it again and binary counter etc been reset
wifi works

nice to see that problem is solved...what was wrong with it? did they said what they repaired/replaced?

Edit : ..i have unlock bl before using my own x8 and it went well ..no problem at all ..but my friends phone ..well ..
try removing the battery and putting it back and try again to start the phone.
i unlocked bootloader a few days ago got the same log and everything worked well

well ..its my friends phone but i'll ask em when he comes ..but ..i did tried remove the battery for couple of minutes ..the battery status is about 32% before i unlock the bl ..when use s1tool to identify, ..it can't even detect the phone anymore ..like i said ..not even a green light ..
they said if there were a green light, then i will have a little hope left ..
EDIT : ..the battery is 11w29
i think after 11w28 if you successfully unlock the bootloader, your phone is DEAD......saw it in the bootloader unlocking thread....

That's exactly the start of the manufacturing date range where the "hard brick upon boot loader unlock starts.
In short - if it does not show any signs of life (no LED, no vibrate, no screen) you can safely assume it's dead now.

tohno, who happens to live in Malaysia as well, also hard bricked his W8 and had it repaired (motherboard got replaced).
Various other posts also suggest that SE won't recognize the cause - they will either swap out the motherboard or send you a new phone altogether.
@B.jay I don't thing so..
because my 2nd bricked I got E15i stock rom running on my W8
and on the rom I has super User and rooted..
when repaired done..I got the same firmware and with the superuser..
I thing maybe they just push bootloader ro something like that..
(just my 2cent IMO)
@caer_ayu
for me I got 4 times hard bricked
and they repaired my phone without lot of questions
I mean just show them my phone died and:-
(for1st bricked)i said IDK when I leave it for charging and when I cameback it died..
(2nd bricked)(just less than 1hour i got my phone) I ask my friend to sent it
(3rd bricked) I sent to vendor (not like b4 sent dirrect to warranty provider)
(4th bricked) Just like 2nd brick (with same person)
Hahaha...and now I confirm my phone can't go far enought...
and that why i just catch a X8 which can go far enought..11w23 and cypress digitizer...and very happy when i have to waiting for my W8 comeback...
sorry for long explaination..
nelikp ..where did you live ? ..my friend buy this phone at the shopping mall, at there, they know about rooting and unlck bootloaders to android phones. i was just affraid they might notice. will they send it to se or they do it themself ..
I live in KL..
for me I brought at shopping mall
and this is "AP" set (I mean warranty provided by 'COMSAT')
and the original set (warranty provided by 'SE')
'AP' set cheper than 'ORI' set
and if "COMSAT" can't fix the phone they will send to "SE" to handle
in my case "COMSAT" only 10 miniutes drive from my home
so I'm lucky stay here..
In your case..ask them about your "phone set (ORI or AP)
and ask them which company provide warranty for your phone
and go direct to the warranty (incase wanrannty provider isn't SE)
i think it was an ORI set ..because it has a Midland warranty seal ..i bought my x8 originally from the se center few months ago and it has Midland warranty seal also ..so it's definitely ORI set ..i hope they didn't charge for repair fees ..

I don't see why it should be impossible to "revive" a hard bricked phone when the repair shop, or SE themselves, have the required hardware and knowledge about how to do it ... that would explain why the phone you got back still had the ROM you had flashed prior to the hard brick.
I never ruled this possibility out, I only questioned the service centers having the means to get it done.

[Q] Can you explain me please about counters?

I recently buy galaxy note but reading see someting about counters after flashing on this model, where can i see how many of this counter i got, and what happen if this goes to 0? and the second question is how can i see if my bootloader is unlocked, i only root via doomlord v4 and install cwm, thanks in advance from Costa Rica and sorry for my poor english.
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-note-att-i717-root-without-increasing-flash-counter-61325/
The flash counter tells you how many times you've flashed a custom firmware. Regular stock firmwares don't count though. When you reset it to 0 it's like not having flashed anything at all, at least to some extent. You can see the number by putting your device into download mode. Also all Samsung devices have unlocked boot loaders (at least the majority of them)

Help with bricked (hopefully soft) Note 5

Guys,
I bought an immaculate second hand Note 5 for 160 euro/180 dollars/140 pounds including shipping. It comes with the charger and an official Samsung case. It doesn't come with the box or anything else. I won't have it until tomorrow but I'm just trying to get a head start at hopefully fixing it.
Now here's the problem. The guy I bought it from got it from his work place. It was on the Vodafone network but he got it unlocked. He also rooted it. When he went to sell it a couple months back he factory reset it and now it doesn't go past the "Samsung Galaxy Note 5" splash screen. He's had it collecting dust for 3 months now.
Does this sound like it'll be as easy as an ODIN flash? As far as I know if it gets stuck on bootloops or stuck at the splash screen it's soft bricked and not hard bricked.
I've attached pictures if they help at all but I doubt it. Apparently it's a lot cleaner than the pictures and doesn't have a scratch on it. He also guarantees it's not water damaged!
Any help appreciated!
You can easy reflash the original firmware with Odin. It's nothing major.

Wow! You really think that's all? Because it doesn't come with the box I won't have access to the IMEI or serial numbers. Do you think it'll be a problem? I also have no idea what model number it is but ill ask where he got it (he lives in Ireland but I think he works in the UK as we never got the Note 5 here) maybe that'll help narrow it down.

You are in good shape no matter how you approach this because your device is ALIVE. You would need to be worried if nothing showed up on screen (DEAD). That my friend would be hard bricked.

You can return everything to stock except knox. Once knox is tripped its permanent.? And once you boot up any rom, settings will identify imei, model #, etc...

With knox tripped you will lose just the warranty which doesn't matter anyway. Samsung pay is working if you keep stock rom without root. Try to see if you can go in recovery mode with vol up home and power and do a factory reset. Sometimes is resolving the boot problem.

oh cool Samsung pay will work! Awesome sauce!!!
Phone arrived this morning! Here's where I'm at:
The phone model is the n920s, apparently some sort of korean telecomm model.
I was successfully able to boot into recovery mode via volume up, home and power button. I tried wipeing everythiong and rebooting but it doesn't pass the Galaxy Note 5 splash screen. I'm now downloading it's stock firmware and going to try flashing it via odin.
So it seems I haven't completed lucked out after all!
My findings are that it appears to be a bad/blacklisted imei. I know there is paid options to fix this but how likely are they to work?
I also found that when I boot to recovery mode it gives me theses lines in the log;
dm-verity verification failed
need to check drk first
What is this?
Even after flashing the correct n920s package from sammobile via odin I have these lines.
Any help appreciated!
Don't bother with dm-verity verification. You can google and you can see. For IMEI go to www.imeigurus.com. They are very good and they can fix your problem for 35$ include sim unlocking for that amount.

I had a look at that website and I see they don't support my phone which is n920s version. In regards to forgetting about the DRK, I'm pretty sure that's why I can't boot my phone.
Just to clarify for all I seem to have three main problems now;
1 - IMEI is bad/blacklisted (Repairable).
2 - dm-verity verification need to check drk first (Not sure how to fix).
3 - FRP Lock is enabled/on stopping me from installing twrp etc (not sure how to fix).
Phone cannot boot up to enable USB Debug or anything.
Stuck only with recovery mode and ODIN mode.
Just to keep everything in one place for anyone else who has this problem, here is a private message I just sent to 123Unlock over at sammobile.com forums. He is from SRS(Simlock Remote Server) - www.unlocksamsungonline.nl
Hi there,
I've been reading through a lot of websites for the last 7 hours trying to fix a phone that I bought. I was caught in a scam and sold a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 N920S which has a bad/blacklisted IMEI, the FRP lock is enabled/on and the DRK needs to be repaired. The guy who sold it to me said he got it from his work place. He also said he got it unlocked (I don't know what network it was on) and rooted it. Then when he went to sell it he factory reset it and now it's stuck/broken the way it is.
After all my reading it seems like you/your company are the only ones capable of fixing my phone. Could you please help me. I'm obviously willing to pay for the job.
My phone does not boot but I can enter ODIN and recovery modes. For more information here is a thread I started over at XDA - Developers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/help/help-bricked-hopefully-soft-note-5-t3445232
To contact me directly here is my email - [email protected]
Look forward to hearing from you,
Chris.
Did you flash the stock firmware with Odin? Did you put the firmware in AP section in odin and it was successfully flashed? Sometimes after that it keep staying in boot screen for long time. Just turn it off presing the power key for 10 seconds and turn on again.

Really weird situation with SM-N960F

Hi
I just bought a 2nd handed phone from my friend and all of the samsung apps said my phone has been rooted.
I'm quite sure my phone is not rooted and Knox still stay at 0x0
I have gone to samsung warranty service and know that this phone has broken the contract with some kind of 3rd party certified reseller, for that reason it will cause my phone to void the warranty and the phone will keep in rooted state.
Is anyone have any idea about this?
Thanks

I did try soft restore in phone setting except recovery one but no luck, maybe recovery mode and wipe everything should do the trick I think.
I heard they have mentioned something like F.nox (Similar to locked carrier phone contract) that caused all of this.
More confusing, this phone somehow broke out the contract with "F.nox" and work like global except Knox involved Samsung apps.

maybe but again try a reset in recovery if you can't then yeah maybe its the mdm that the rental company activated that is causing this

sounds like modem issue.
but regardless, ive not herd of such issues lately.
anyways ill let you decide.
a good way to get non corrupt firmware is to use samfirm tool 0.3.6 just enter phone model: SM-N960F
and your region code.
when using odin 3.13.1
fill all slots but for csc use regular csc.md5 not the one with home.

Possible that the device had a bad IMEI/ESN and was a new CERT file was created to allow network access.

Note 9 Combination file - What to do with it?

So i´ve been locked in the KG State Prenormal for about 2 months now, two weeks of it i kept the phone connected without rebooting or removing the SIM...
I´m on my limit right now, just a few sights of the word "Prenormal" away of smashing this pieceof sh*t (1000 euros piece of...) against a wall... the use of an hammer also crossed my mind...
I´m about to give up, and sell this pos to buy a phone that actually would belong to me and not to the brand that sold me... Cause Samsung is NOT that brand, also i might never buy anything from these control freaks psichos again... anyway i digress...
After testing all guides i could find, flashed several ROMs i realized that the mistake i made was to update to binary 4... now i´m stuck...
Anyway, after all this, i stumbled upon this file "COMBINATION_FAC_FA81_N960FXXU4ASJ2_FACFAC_CL13996359_QB26885160_REV00_user_mid_noship.tar" that i actualy can flash, but can´t do much else with it...
It has binary 4 and is a very slimed down version of Oreo 8.1. I can install custom binaries, including TWRP, but can´t boot to it.. the phone just reboots.
I can even flash the magisk_patched AP i got, but then the phone wont boot at all. Can´t overlapped it with my stock rom cause then i got the error that the binaries are mixed up...
Not even with the Oreo ROM cause the binaries wont match...
Once in the OS i can access lots of hardware tools, but can´t install any apk...
So i wonder, What is this crap for? How can i use this?
Anyone here used a Combination file before? For what?
As i guess i have a few more tries before i just smash this phone, any new tips regarding the KG issue are also welcome.
Special thanks to bober10113 for the incredible patience he has proven to have...
Also to Mr. Ketan, that despite his very detailed and awesome guides, i just can´t seem to get rid of this crap... Thank you for all your amazing work that certainly saved a lot of other users... just not me...
And people, DON´T GIVE REMOTE ACCESS TO YOUR PC TO ANYONE CLAIMING THAT HE CAN HELP YOU.... You know who you are! Scammer!
No Hangouts chats! If this sorry excuse for a human had a real solution, he should share it with the community, not pull you over aside...

Combination file is used mainly to remove google account locks or some other kind of locks, also to downgrade fw versions.

Can you explain HOW can make a downgrade of fw?
I updated to version U4, and at this moment can´t flash fw U3, because Samsung...
I tried to to flash U3 fw over this Combination file, but always got the error "...Device 4 Binaries 3..." even without the BL file on Odin.
In fact, even when flashed individually, BL, AP, CP and CSC give that error.
So, how can this file help me?
