[Q] how do I USB teather on 2.3.5

Hi I want to USB teather but it said that the kernel does not support it.
Any ideas or fixes for this. I'm using 2.3.5 and my pc is windows xp. Here's what it said the kernel needs.
This means that the Linux kernel on your device does not have the features (CONFIG_NETFILTER/CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES and/or RNDIS) required for tethering. If you have an ADP G1, please read (or ADP16KernelUpdate if you're using Donut), otherwise you will need to find a firmware/kernel with these features.

I know it sounds a bit mad but have you tried Linux installer from the market to see if will install needed drivers and libs? Looking in genral thread about dual boot linux read it quite interesting was half way through his Tut when next day sd went gunna try again? Don't know if it helps?

Linuxmint or Ubuntu or Fedora

I am looking into dual booting windows 7 and Linux but in am not really sure which should be my choice I am used To fedora
But in read Ubuntu is the way to go but not sure which is Android friendly.

I personally enjoyed fedora a little bit more than Ubuntu. But Ubuntu is more android friendly as far as I know.

Ubuntu by default uses the Unity desktop environment. Fedora uses Gnome. You can get the the same menus you just need to install the gnome desktop environment on Ubuntu. It should be in the software manager

Also Ubuntu is much more geared toward android development then mint or fedora. While many of the guides you find for android development require or strongly recomend linux they are usually written for Ubuntu, and to get them to work on mint or fedora can be a pain due to package differences and other subtle differences.

Building from source is also possible on fedora I believe. You just need to install the build-essentials package as it installs all the required packages for building. And then install the gcc toolchain

Mint is based off Ubuntu...shouldn't be much probs there.
I prefer Ubuntu over Mint in terms of everything.
Fedora I never tried.
I heard it's possible to build android even on Arch Linux. (pretty cool )

I've compiled cm7 kernel on arch Linux. The thing with arch Linux is its time consuming to set up and you must know what you are doing. Incase anything happens you might have to investigate. Arch Linux is a great distro as everything is almost always up to date. (Software repo called AUR) and you have full control over everything. It is so customizable that no two installs are the same.

I just did the windows installer with the 30 gig partition. Do I need to downgrade?

You don't have to downgrade if you don't want too. Unfortunately compliling anything other then the master branch of AOSP only has experimental support on 12.04. While you can compile other stuff there are some tweaks and other changes you'll probably need to make. Also things that compile fine on 10.04-11.10 will often result in compile errors on 12.04. Obviously these problems will eventually be sorted out they just can make things frustrating at times.

im currently running ubuntu 10.4 lucid,
i'm installing it alongside windows but the partition for the linux is ext4,
its better to have a ext4 for linux rather than NTFS,
as for your question,
im not sure since i used the alternative installer,
you can try the regular installer if it has an option to install into a NTFS partition

[Q] Rom making question

Hi! I know this is not about Xperia X8 question. But this is about Rom making. When i got help with rom one did say that i should download Linux Mint 11 and i did when i installed the kernel i did install when the install was almost finished i got overheat problem it came as a message on my laptop. So i need help.
My Laptop specs:
HP Pavilion g6
Windows 7 Home Edition
Intel Core i5-2410m CPU 2.30GHz
Ram 4.00gb
64-bit
I downloaded Linux Mint CD no codecs (64-bit)

Ubuntu is the most favoured OS for rom making. Best choice for you will be Ubuntu.

So I'm not sure if any of u can help me...but I recently installed some nvidia updates including ntune...now my windows 8 computer won't boot, it wants me to restore, I click restore...sits on boot screen...idk what to do, I really need my files for school and can practically get into bios only...can someone pleaseee help

i really don't know whats the problem, but if you need to rescue some files, use the boot cd of ubuntu, i hope it helps!

Double-click Home then the drive, go to the Users directory and copy the entire folder somewhere else... and whatever else there is...

well i installed it to usb, but im getting this too small to read screen, i select try ubunut and install ubuntu...but just a black screen...

It takes a while to load up...just click try Ubuntu.....or try xubuntu it has more of a windows feel to it

There are several flavours of linux on the official download page below.
There is Raspbian which is based on Debian, and Pidora which is based on Fedora.
There is the rather minimalist Arch-Linux, if you really want to roll your sleeves up.
Also for good measure, there is a version of the RISC-OS that ran on the Acorn Archimedes machine, although this is a non-linux OS.
Write the OS images to your SD card and turn it on. That's all there is to it.

No, only the popular ones. For example the already mentioned RISC OS is not a linux. There's also a plan9 port. Apparently some people are also trying to port Haiku.

If I remember correctly there are the following operating systems aviable: Raspian (modified debian), debian, Arch-linux, pidora (modified fedora), Risc Os, Raspbmc and OpenELEC (Raspbmc and OpenELEC are xbmc ports)

I'd recommend starting with Raspbian, as most development samples, software and stuff is being made/written for the default distro.
Which is based on Debian anyway, so it should be easy enough to use.

I recommend downloading noobs and install raspbian. that's the easiest way for getting started. And the good thing about noobs is, that you can easily reinstall the os after you made giantic mistakes and destroyed the system

You can use Berryboot to have both installed.
I use OpenElec rather than xbmc, IMHO it runs a lot smoother.
