do you think or know if CM9 will solve the battery hogging issue?
Not sure, but surley if it has battery hog issues , then iam not going to CM9 , waiting for an expert reply though
It's definitely better then CM7, and probably better then many other roms out there. At least try it out.

Try tOnecosmic's ICS Port!!!
It is amazing, good battery life, very smooth, works great as my daily Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398223
I DON'T recommend going to ICS just yet (unless you want to beta test), builds are still too early, they are unreliable for everyday use and it'll be a while until we get a stable and good performing rom, CM7 is much better right now, but it may change in the future though.
ICS launcher FC a lot, gallery app and browser are laggy, and if you use live wallpapers everything slows down a lot, also there are many app incompatibilities now. I tried to like ICS but it's still in alpha stages (don't believe all those RC1 or beta labels, it's really not ready)
CM7 is great but yes, it's a battery hog. You could use a samsung rom (a custom ODEXED rom or stock are fine) and a custom kernel, I use semaphore with thunderbolt and it's very good performing, it can't touch CM7 in RAM management (isn't as good in multitasking), but videos, games play nice and samsung has a few good apps (it's dialer has smart dialing and its a looker, it can play almost all videos even h264 720p 60fps, music app uses very little battery since it's HW accelerated and its browser is as smooth as the iphone's, it can't be touched by CM7's), and you can delete all other samsung bloatware.

Thanks for your reply !! , i used to be on almost every new ROM lately but i couldn't handle the Lag even with using Thunderbolt and stuff , it was veryyy laggy and not responsive , iam now on CM7.1 and i have to say it is waaaaaay faster than the sammy build roms , too bad i get some force closes often and i HATE how low the music is , the music player sucks alot of battery though
my best Samsung experience was on Hybrid roms , stable , fast.
btw not all CM9 builds are bad ! you can try search for the AndroidSoul's review of cm9 , it looks veryyyyy smooth !
any recommendations for now ?

Thanks so much man ! i have seen some videos for the onecosmic's port and it is veryy fast indeed !!!!
i wonder how long do you last with heavy usage / medium usage ?
what about standby ?? , iam so going to try this soon !
With heavy usage I can use my Phone one day, but this was the same with Gingerbread.
When I only have low or medium usage, the battery lasts 1 1/2 - 2 Days, very good for a non final release. But most i charge my phone every night.

I didn't watch any videos, I flashed both versions myself and ICS isn't ready yet, got too many FC, lags heavily on some occasions and isn't as fast as CM7 (we're talking about the version for the i9000 right? )
It'll reach great performance levels in the future I'm sure, but saying that it's perfect for daily use or better than CM7 is just going a little too far.
And have you tried a high LMK for sammy roms? Like 80MB or higher, you won't be able to multitask much, but performance will be very good for games or heavy apps

I guess iam going to skip flashing CM9 then ! , iam an average-heavy user
- well , i have never tried messing up with memory but i assure you i have had troubles multitasking , and very very very bad response time on almost any sammy rom , even with overclocking i don't really feel any difference
all what i used to flash on sammy roms was base rom + custom rom on top of it + some tweaks like thunderbolt script , overclocking wasn't even noticed
i also used to tweak the colors
Hi guys, I recently got a brand new galaxy s (GT-I9000). My experience with this nice one is amazing, except when it comes down to gaming. For example when playing Blood & Glory it just lags like hell, but I have seen videos of other galaxy s on youtube playing the very same game smooth. So I was wondering what can I do about it. I thought that I could install voofoo lagfix, but it was my understanding that it isn't available for gingerbread 2.3.6 (I have a rooted I9000XWJVZ, and I didn't touch anything else). I also thought that you may know a rom that is especially suited for gaming.
I'm at your mercy, please help a poor fellow. Bye and Happy Christmas.
If you were looking for gaming device, I personally would recommend you XBOX or Playstation...
Thanks, but this doesn't help me (and I already have a 360). What I'm saying is that my galaxy s doesn't seem to be able to play game very well, some others do. So I just wanna know what can I do about it.
First of all, read the threads here, and look in General section as well.
You can start from widgets freezing/delete.
Don't use much widgets.

Problem is that gingerbread has terrible memory management, it always tries to keep apps on memory, so when you're playing a game, your RAM changes depending on textures, etc. So the system sees more free RAM and starts an app which causes lags... yeah it's pretty stupid but you could try this:
Flash a custom kernel of your liking (I use semaphore and it's working well), and thunderbolt (it's a collection of scripts that enhance performance). Also you may want to flash a thunderbolt LMK add on (low memory killer), if you want best performance go for the 80MB LMK one, but you won't be able to multitask much. Actually you can change the LMK on the fly (with semaphore app) and that could be easier (flash at least the kernel and thunderbolt, the other thunderbolt add ons are optional)
Try to get some info on LMK, this thread is a good start:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18549017
Also I found Cyanogenmod to be ok at gaming but it's a battery hog, if you can tweak a samsung rom like I mentioned you could get good performance and battery life, even if it's a bit complicated at first.
If nothing of this satisfies you, you could go back to froyo, it's much better for gaming, really.
I think the best phone is Samsung Galaxy S2
Thank you parhelion69, I'll try and let you know. Man, tuning a device is much more complicated than expected...
Was very happy to see the latest "Stable" CM9 released a few days ago. Been using it, and it looks like a winner!
Then I listened to some music. Oi! What the hell, did I just bust my headphones?
The sound quality is awful to say the least. It's always been like this for earlier ICS builds.
Can anyone shed some light as to why CM9/ICS audio quality is really bad? Did a search and all I can find was a thread saying that the RC1 candidate had this problem due to an audio routing issue.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
am looking to flash to cm9's stable release as well and seeing your post has made me think otherwise... so far are there any other bugs or issues you've encountered?
By the way, i've only flashed ROMS a few times, i'm currently running cm7.2.. is there any particular method to follow if i were to flash cm9? or do i just install the zip file through cwm recovery?
thanks mate! cheers!
The only major issue is the sound quality. I've tried CM7.2 and the sound is superb, with CM9 the drums turn to tin can drumming! LOL
What's worse if you enable any DSP effect (which is fab in CM7.2) it just makes it much worse.
Other than that, the build is stable fast and very nice! It looks like an entirely new phone altogether. Now if we can get this issue fixed on the sound, it would be a proper release!
I've tested using Apollo Player, PowerAMP and Winamp. All of them sound really bad.
Hope this helps!
An update. Apparently, the cardboard drumming is only apparent for AAC HEv2 converted files. It goes away listening to anything 128kbps or more. BUT! Sound is still nowhere near as good as on CM7.2. It's like night and day.
This may be an obvious question, but have you installed Voodoo Sound?
decided to flash cm9 already last night and everything went really well. flashed it in less than 10 minutes.
anyway, so far sound quality isn't really that bad. I'd say average. it's not great, but not bad. haven't tried any other formats rather than mp3s and wavs but they seem to sound okay.
have you tried reflashing?
Try devil3 ics kernel. Voodoo Sound should fix the probelm
Sent from my GT-i9000, cm10 alpha, devil3 1.1.3
Thanks for that, tried it out and also decided to flash to TAJB v7.1
It's a JB ROM based on CM10 and the devil kernel. Sound is better.

Thank you all for your replies. Yes, I have installed Voodoo sound. Well done on supercurio for creating that. Unfortunately, all it did was amplify the rotten sound signal. Just hearing louder cardboard drumming on it.
Have posted this issue on the CM forums and haven't received any reply LOL
Testing audio quality on cutom ROMs (CM and AOKP)
Hi there (audiophile here, so haters stay away)! Been searching the forums and Google for a discussion on this, finally found it..
Been looking for a custom ROM for my SGS (I use a SGSII as my actual phone, and the SGS as a separate media player, since I can completely strip the SGS BARE ), something to basically turn it from a phone into a media player (like the Samsung Galaxy Player) lol.. Because I heard great things about supercurio's voodoo sound and the wolfson DAC I had to give it a go
As a side note, voodoo sound gives me great amplifications without distortion and the sound is good. I don't think it's leaps and bounds better in QUALITY compared to the Yamaha in the SII, but the amplification definitely is (and I need the amp because I use beyerdynamic 32 Ohm cans which are pretty hard to drive )
Anyhow, I digress... Tried different ROMS, all with voodoo sound installed (i.e. all rooted). Tried stock Gingerbread, along with CM7.2 (Stable), CM9 (Nightly), AOKP M5 and M6.
Perhaps it is the "placebo effect", but I find the dynamic range and sound-stage is completely destroyed by the custom ROMs (or is it the kernels?).. The only ROM that I can listen to comfortably is the stock ROM (with stock rooted kernel by Chainfire). Does anyone agree with my observations? Would love to see if it's just me or I might be onto something?
I haven't tried CM9 stable on my SGS yet so maybe that's improved. But I am really torn. The stock rom is f***-ing (are we allowed to swear on these forums?!) slow! The phone is nearly unusable compared to AOKP/CM.
So what's the solution guys?! Are we tied to the stock rom to achieve the best audio quality? Or is there a custom rom out there that is lightening fast but preserves audio reproduction quality?!
Please discuss your findings here!
Cheers!
Thanks for your post there, I thought I was the only one! It looks like we won't get much more assistance as the devs are probably focusing on higher priorities right now.
I too have this problem. I used to have a nokia 500 , with which i had downloaded many original songs from nokia music , but since i used mobile data to download , the songs are 32kbps bitrate.
In cm9 , the bass cracks like anything. in cm10 , the bass is smooth and nice sounding. I tried copying cm10 audio libs to cm9 , but no changes occur.
The only way to solve this problem is to use songs with a bitrate of 160kbps +. Even then , cm10 has better sound quality. CM9 is a lot more stable , wish someone could port cm10 audio libs to cm9
Damn, cheers for that feedback. Nice to hear that at least the sound on CM10 is good! CM9 music... urgh... A pity since music is a major driver for me.

I agree with you...Sound quality improves to some extent by using equalizers apk in stock roms
I got good sound effects in vortex ROM & Ac!d player. Please try & let me know

Hi guys, wanted to ask for your opinion. I am running cyanogenmod on my m7 ever since i got it, but i often feel as if cm11 is not so optimized for m7. battery life is poor, the sound when I play music just doesnt sound as crisp as it was on the stock sense, its not the beats audio that is so good, its that the cm11 dsp manager makes the sound sound like ****, when you turn bass on or any equalizer, the speakers start making distortions. i loved cyanogenmod for their dedication and persistance as for security and customization but i feel as if the really took more than they gave, that is as far as for the htc one goes. i find myself playing game up to 7 minutes and the phone gets hot i could worm my sandwich on it. my question is what do you find to be the best rom for htc one as far as for best performance and stability?

Forum rules prohibit comparing ROM. You will have to visit the post of the ROMs and find out which would work best for you then flash it and give it a go.
Hey guys,
I was looking for a good quality mp3 player recently to use with my entry level ATHm20x and it was a surprise for me to find out that the old SGS had the best audio chip among phones. So, now i use this phone mainly as a audio player. flashed cm10.1 and installed voodoo control by supercurio and the sound quality is amazing.
I just wanna ask if the newer roms runnig android5 or 6 or support this voodoo sound? (roms with stock kernel)
Im currently on jb 4.4.2, its smooth and fast, how does new builds compare to this?
And its amazing to see the amount of dev support this phone getting, there's something magical about this little thing.
cheers

They do. Not sure about other LP/MM ROMs but i was able to play 24/96 flac files on Resurrection Remix using USB Audio Player Pro, without resampling.
