Yup, it comes with a 3.0 cable. It looks similar to the 2.0 cable, but if you look closely, there is a difference.

quick question 3.0 only affects transfer speeds when connected to a computer right? for charging it's always going to be the adapter's output (2A)

If connected to a computer that has a USB3 port, it'll be a faster charge than if you were to use USB2. USB2 has a max of about 500mA, theoretically. USB3 has a max of 900mA. When using a wall charger, it'll be the same as USB2, since the adapters output (most commonly 2A) remains the same. That also goes without saying: Using the wall charger will always be faster than using a computer, since the output is considerably higher.

It's USB on one end and a really odd looking connection to the bottom of the phone. Don't know what it's called.

Thats the standard USB 3.0 Micro connector. Its basically the standard USB micro connector we are all used to with an additional set of pins on the side. The nice thing is the ports are backwards compatible but with slower speeds.
If it's been upgraded to 2.5A then that explains the super fast charging speed.
Just got my S5
And nah, the wall adapter is still 2A...at least the one that came with mine is:

I think the fast charging is because of "Quick Charge 2.0" from Qualcomm's 801 chip.
My wife got her shimmery white phone yesterday that came with a white cord and charger and I was hoping my black on would come with a black cord and charger, no such luck, looks like they are all white.

Yup, you sure can. The USB3 port is backward-compatible so any of the old USB2 microUSB cables will work just fine.
the 2.0 cables seem to charge extraordinarily slow for me. The 3.0 cable from the same 2A source seems real fast.
Not sure if it is just the first impressions or an indicator that you should probably plan to use the 3.0 cables from now on...

With my previous phone (Samsung Galaxy S2) you could make the phone think it was connected with an AC charger by shortening the two middle usb pins. This would make the phone charge with 1000mA instead of 500mA.
But somehow HTC uses a different approach. I shortened the two middle pins of my car charger, but the phone still 'knows' it's on a usb charger. So the middle pin tric is not working on the HTC One. Does anybody know how to make the phone think it's on a AC charger, and therefore being charged with 1000mA instead of 500mA?
I'm using this charger: http://www.hamaholst.nl/NL/29207/ipad-gen1-2-3-mini-autolader-5v-21a.html
IMO it is a bit silly shorting out pins. But it's your device you can do what you like.

Just to be clear, I shortened the pins of the car charger, not the pins of the phone.
This has already been done with many other phones (shortening the two data pins) but on the One it does not work, the phone still says USB charging...
-oeps-
I took an AC charger apart, and guess what, the two middle usb pins are shortened!
So what else tells the phone whether it's on an AC or USB Charger???

That charger would charge at 1amp either way. If your battery charge is high, nothing you do short of enabling Fast Charge will charge more than 500mAh even on AC. That's just how the battery works. From 0% to about 80%, it charges at 1amp, and when it touches 80%, even on an AC charger from the wall it will drop to 500mAh.

Sometimes it's the cable that needs changing. I've had perfectly good USB cables that would only charge at 500mAh and couldn't transfer data. The thicker ones are usually good for full 1amp charging

Tried different cables. This is not a new thing, with the galaxy S2 it was the same story. Some car chargers are just recognised as usb chargers. And when the phone detects the usb charger/computer charge is switches to the 500mAh max charge

Offcourse I can also buy the official HTC CC C220 for about 10 euro's, but I would like to use my pico charger instead of a large charger... But looks like it's not gonna work out
So I guess the solution to this is that you need a USB cable that tells your phone it's an AC charger..
Hi all,
Can anyone point me to a known car charger which fast charges the G2? (Preferably not a $30 charger)
All but one of my previous car chargers only slow charge. I also just bought 2 from Amazon which claim to be 2 amp, but they also slow charge (just packed them up to go back).
Thanks.

It's my understanding that you can make one by shorting the data pins in a USB cable, but just remember to never, ever use that USB cable on a PC or else you'll damage the port.
I, too, am frustrated by LG's attempt to thwart fast-charge via normal USB cables. Once we have custom kernels, this will likely be resolved. I used leankernel on my GNex and had a fast-charge widget that would let me go from 0 to 100% in about 45 minutes.

This makes some sense as my previous phone was a GNex running CyanogenMod with Franco Kernel. 3/4 of my previously working "fast" chargers only slow charge my G2.
Strangely, when using LG's USB cable plugged into my laptop's USB allows fast charging.
I use a Palm car charger, it's the best one I've ever found, and they can usually be found for around $10. It will fast charge the G2, tested and confirmed.
Okay, I take it back, it doesn't stay on fast charging. After a minute, the slow charge notification pops up. But this is the fastest car charger that I've ever found, and I looked around for a while.
The G2 is capable of an even faster fast charge than what we are used to, and that's why other home chargers also show slow charge. It's not really slow, just not as fast as it could be.

Yes, you are correct. But it seems that they are going "the extra mile" to make it more difficult...
For example, when I use my GNex USB adapter, it says "slow charge"... When I use an Apple wall charger, "slow charge". Unless I use LG's cable. I can't get fast charge to work with anything at all unless I am using LG's cable. Even then, it may or may not work with the non-LG adapter.
Can't wait for a kernel that has fast charge enabled. With the wireless storage feature of this phone, there's no reason to use MTP anymore, IMO.
So is it the cable or the 1.8a "base" that enables us to fast charge?

I'm 90% sure this has to do with the cable. Most premium USB cables are 24awg/28awg (power/data). The LG OEM cable is 20awg/28awg, and I'm guessing the phone detects the voltage drop in order to determine slow vs fast charge. FWIW, going from 20awg to 24awg yields an increase in resistance of 2.5x. I may be off base on this being the underlying cause, but I cannot think of any reason why I can fast charge on my 2.1A car charger only with the OEM cable, just like with the OEM wall charger. I'm going to hunt for a 20/28 USB cable to test this theory. In another thread, I said I was able to fast charge with regular USB cables on my car charger but I couldn't replicate it today. Phone would slow charge in all instances of USB cables, modified or not, on my 2.1A car charger.

What about this car charger on Amazon?
My Motorola car charger has been superb. It has consistently outperformed any and all wall chargers.
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Vehi...80004218&sr=8-1&keywords=motorola+car+charger
I bought amazon brand micro usb cables and they worked with the oem charger so they must be good enough to handle the extra load.
Is anyone else having problems with certain usb cords working? I have a 2.1A dual usb car charger, but only the stock G2 cord works for charging!

Yep...I know. I'm just saying that the phone doesn't popup that notification saying that it's slow-charging when I use that charger.
Hello.
I dont know why but the last 3 days my phone charges extremely slow.
I dont know if its the hardware of the software.
I did not make a major change in the phone or something.I dont know why it charges so slow.
Charging rate is : 1% in 4 and a half minutes....
I cant figure out why.
I was in a trip and i got the charger with me (The output was rated 220 volts so no problem with the charger)
BUT the cable may be damaged.
Softwarewise i have no idea what i did to affect the charging .
It may be a bug or a calibration issue.Because sometimes for example it climbs from 29 or 28 % to 30
Please tell me what you think thank you.
try experimenting with different cables and adapters to determine of the problem is the phone or the charger

I know but Sony's is designed thick so it handles the 850mah that's a pretty big load and when i used another cheapo cable out of ebay it charged bery slow.(I ordered the same cheapo because it broke and it was pretty nice to have a 2m cable)
If there is a lesson to be learnt: other than casing or screen protectors (non-electronics components of the device), I don't buy [cheap] electronics stuff off ebay - one usually gets what one pays for.

Not the cable but the 3 pin plugs which connects (USB) to micro-usb on the radio. The cable is the same one which I charge by plugging into the computer.
Same principle as our phone - charge by plugging into the computer or use the same cable connected to a 2 or 3 pins which is then plug into AC.
These pin plugs needs to charge at 5V (as computer). The one I bought was advertised as 5V but obviously it was not.
I then bought another radio and found an old phone AC charger - works faultlessly.

For almost two weeks now I have been testing out a USB C - USB A 6 foot cable and USB C - Micro USB adapter from Tronsmart. They sent me these products in return for an honest review.
To get links out of the way, here they are.
The cable:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018S348RG
The adapter:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B018S827GU
First off, we're going to test and see if the products are compliant to the USB C standard and include the 56k resistor that it is advertised to have.
For the Nexus 5X from an adb shell we run the command "cat /sys/bus/i2c/drivers/fusb301/*/fclientcur".
These are the results we are looking for.
0 - standard USB charging (good)
1500 - 1.5 amp type C charging (good)
3000 - 3 amp type C charging (bad)
I am testing these with my laptop and not from a terminal on the phone itself, so we will be looking for an output of 0.
Adapter:

OnePlus cable (not using the correct resistor):
Testing is good! These cables and adapters do adhere to the USB C standard, so you can use them without worry.
I won't include images of the cables, because they're just long cables. I will show, however, the size and fit of the adapter.
As you can see, it is just a little bit bigger than the end of most micro-USB cables. The male micro end does not plug all the way into the adapter, but I am sure it was designed that way in order to keep the overall footprint of the adapter as small as possible (and in my opinion was the way to go here). Most of you I imagine wouldn't care but some of you might not like the aesthetics of it.
Both the cables and adapters (which both come in packs of two by the way) are built very well. They all feel like they will last a long time as long as you don't abuse them. The actual feel of the cables themselves are identical to the cable that is bundled with the phone, but without the soft touch finish. The cables come as either 3.3 or 6 feet in length. I decided to pick the 6 footer as it is perfect to use if you charge your phone right next to you in bed like I do. They all charge quickly and and properly at whatever current your charger is rated to put out.
Overall, I would give the cords a solid 10/10 and the adapters a 9/10. I would recommend them to everybody, especially at their price. Buy!

Can anyone please tell, what type of charging/data cable we get with Galaxy Note 8 (stock charging cable)? Is it Type C USB 2.0? Coz i want to get one spare charging cable for my phone to us it in car with anker car charger. I have found one online of Tronsmart, Type C cable, USB 2.0. Will it be okay or should i go for USB type 3.0, since as per GsmArena, note 8 port supports usb type C 3.1. I only need cable for charging, not for (fast) data transfer, so will usb type C 2.0 be okay? Or should i get usb 3.0?
Thanks!

For charging, it doesn't matter. USB 2.0 or 3.0 doesn't make the phone charge faster or slower, it only affects data transfer speeds. Getting a Type-C USB 2.0 will still be compatible with fast charging, I believe.
Also, as far as I know, it's USB 3.0 cable that comes with the device, because my transfer rates are ridiculously fast over a USB 3.0 port.

Not particularly helpful. You could have refrained from posting at all.

Thanks for ur reply.
What i have heard, samsung stock charging cable is 2.0, not sure tho. Recently i have purchased tronsmart Type C cable 2.0 as a spare cable. And it is thicker than stock samsung charging/data cable (see the attached image). It also shows same charging time as stock cable.
I will use it as a spare cable for charging in car with anker QC 3.0 charger.

Thickness does not always translate to higher performance.

Yeah, but was just showing how thick it was compared to stock cable. Anyway, so far it is performing nice. I only use it with car charger (whenever needed, and i don't need to charge my phone in car on daily basis, normally i charge my phone to full in morning before leaving for office, and it easily takes me for one full day), otherwise i charge my phone with stock charger and cable.

Yes, Anker is a good brand. One of the best. But since it was costly and i only needed a spare cable to use in car (and that too not very often), so went for a cheap one, but of good quality.
Tho i have anker car charger with QC 3.0 fast charging.
