Hello,
I have a one year old Nook HD+. I've been using it all this time without any issues. It was only yesterday that I had a problem. When I tried to open Coolreader (for reading epubs), it wouldn't open, then the Nook would give a message that Shop had stopped working, and there was another problem with "com.google.process.gapps". I searched for a solution on the net but couldn't find one, so I finally did a factory reset. Its working fine now; I did have to connect the tablet to the computer to copy the books again, which is not a problem, but I lost all the apps that I had downloaded, which is again not a problem, since I can install them again. But one app was huge, Wikipedia Offline, 2+ GBs. I'll have to download it again.
Now my question is, suppose I face a similar problem in the future, is there any way to copy the Wikipedia folder from the Nook to the computer, so that I can copy it back after the factory reset? Where exactly does this folder lie?
Thanks.

Every app makes its own decision where to store its data. And they could be anywhere. But most store them in /sdcard. It could be in its own folder or could be in a special location that is hard to find. Try looking in /sdcard/Android/data and a folder there with the raw name of the app (like com.amazon.kindle is the kindle ereader).

I don't have an SD card; I only have the 32 GB onboard the tablet. I had earlier downloaded something called Android File Manager, which showed the various files and folders on the tablet. I'll see what I can find there.
Another question: Is it possible to download the Wikipedia on the computer, and then copy it to the Nook. I don't have unlimited internet, so I download at particular times during the day; does Google Play allow stopping and resuming of downloads?
Thanks for the reply.

I did not say you had an SD. I said the apps use /sdcard. /sdcard is a folder on internal memory.
And it depends on which version of wiki online you are using. I looked on Play Store and one has the data all built into the app (3.5GB) and one has a small app and the app downloads the data to /sdcard. My earlier comments were for the latter type that stores to /sdcard. In either case, yes, you can use a root file manager to copy the app or data to your PC. But no you can't download to PC first and you can't resume.

I've downloaded the ES file manager; I'll take a look at what folders it shows on the tablet. I have some experience working with computers but pretty much none with tablets. I use the tablet only to read ebooks while lying down on the bed. You've replied to this post from your Nook; I've never been able to use the tablet's keyboard properly; its slow and tiresome. Typing on the computer is much faster.
As for Wikipedia, yes, I meant the 3.5 GB one. Looks like I'll have to download the whole thing on the tablet all over again. Once it is done, I'll make a backup to the computer. I'll ask if I face any further difficulty.
Thanks.

Hello,
The Nook Color is my first Android device and so far I love it. I am booting .0.6.7 from an sd and I have a couple of questions I hope can be answered.
1. I got the Kindle app, but I cannot find it's menu (to buy from amazon or change font etc.). I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but all I can do so far is read the free books it came with.
2. How do I get ebooks onto the Nooks internal memory? I have an epub file in internal memory (under my files) that I could read with the stock reader, but the nook app and the kindle app does not list it.
Thanks in advance, I am trying to read and learn as much as I can, but it is a little overwhelming!

1. Use soft keys to bring up the row of virtual buttons. To bring up soft keys you need to either do a single or double tap on your nook button. It just depends on your configuration.
2. Select the menu button.
3. Select either Archived Items or Kindle Store.
Hope this helps with at least the first part of your issue.
Thanks a lot!
Where are the archived files from? It wants me to connect to the internet when I press it and I don't have a signal right now.
When I plug the nook (or just the sd card) into my computer how do I add books to it?

Archived files would be books that you've already purchased from Amazon that have not been downloaded to your device. Your nook would need an Internet connection to access those files (if you have any) as they are stored on Amazon's servers.
I'm not sure about the answer to your second question just yet. If I figure it out I'll let you know.
I appreciate the help. I am trying to get used to the menus and the way androis works.
What I did figure out is:
1.Take out the sd card and load files (epub, movies, etc)onto the stock Nook.
2.Put the sd card back in, boot up froyo, then use astro to transfer files back and forth between the internal and sd.
I recommend Aldiko for reading your own EPUBs and PDFs. It has a file browser so you can simply browse to wherever and import them. Also it supports Adobe DRM so you can download Library eBooks straight from their sites.

That sounds a lot easier than my workaround. I will try it tonight!
Speaking of library access, I heard the Philadelphia library sells memberships to anyone for $15 a year.

WTF??? They make you pay??? My library is free and gives me access to online Audiobook/eBook loaning. Some of the other Libraries in it's network make you pay for things like DVD loans but I can understand that. But $15 for a Membership, that sortof defeats the purpose of a Library. I heard Philly was seriously cutting back on their Library budget (even closing a few) but Paid Membership? What's this world coming too?

I should have clarrified. If you are out of state you have to pay the $15 fee.

MOD EDIT: links removed
UNDELETE - RECOVER YOUR FILES ON THE GO
Undelete for Android is an application for root users that allows you to recover any type of deleted file from your SD card or internal storage. With support for over 1000 file types, Undelete can come in handy if you accidentally delete photos or want some old tunes to listen to. Undelete can also securely wipe and shred files so that they will be impossible for others to recover.
WARNING: DATA RECOVERY IS NOT GUARANTEED. Sometimes even recently deleted files can be corrupted beyond repair as the operating system writes new files to memory.
Features:
- Restore any file that has not been written over
- Securely wipe/shred files
- Thumbnail generation
- Works with images, video, music, archives and binaries
- Batch operations
- Preview media files
Currently, only FAT is supported. On Tegra devices, only the external SD is supported. EXT 4 will probably never be supported - use a desktop tool (if you can find one).
Some files that are discovered after a scan may fail to recover as data may be corrupted beyond repair, just like desktop based solutions.
INTERNET and READ DATA permissions are needed for the logging system. Logs are only sent manually with your permission through the "Write to us" dialog.

So any issues with the Release Candidate?
Yeah thats great. And when youre traveling i suppose youll need it a computer and lots of cables...
Also, its bad form to advertise other tools in a paid software thread. Not a great start to your XDA membership.

no issues on my DInc2. for the few times i've had to use it, it worked as intended. i've restored about six pictures and an mp3 with no troubles. even found pictures and music i had deleted long ago, and restored them for kicks.
one question though, should Undelete reside on the phone, or is it okay to move it to the SD as well? i've never tried to move it to the SD because i assumed it would cause issues. Undelete is quite small so having it on the phone really isn't an issue, but i like to keep as many apps on the SD as possible.
thanks for the great app. my fat fingers thank you too.
There should be no issues. If you do have some, let me know!
And of course, please leave a review on the market, that can help a lot, considering how many crumby reviews this app gets...
Thanks!
That sounds like something worth checking out
Please do! Let me know if you have any issues!
Any issues to report?
Is there an app that will ensure proper deletion so that apps like this don't work?

This app will do it! Did i forget to leave that out of the description? You have to long press an item an choose "wipe".
You can also wipe in batch mode.
App is on saly - $2 dollars for to coincide with the upcoming release of 1.5!
We have almost completed work on Undelete 2.0 - it will be released tomorrow!
Looking forward to it! I saw the beta on the other site, but it was locked
Its coming in an hour or so!
Working perfectly THANK YOU!
Thank you! Enjoy!

Hi,
I have a Nexus 7 32GB on 4.2.1.
I just copied about 20 gigs worth of video files into the "Movies" folder. Copying was fine, and they all looked like they were there. After unplugging the device, I can't find them with File Manager or with MX Player. If I plug the device back in, the Movies folder is empty.
I've rebooted the device, that didn't help.
I've done a "Storage Analysys" in File Manager, and it shows no folders which have that much data in them.
However, the device still reports itself as mostly full! Not only did the files disappear into thin air, they didn't release the storage!
Has anyone had this problem before? Any idea what to do?
Man I want USB Mass Storage back...
I just re-copied one of the files into a new folder that I just created, rather than the "Movies" folder which already existed. Worked just fine there...
I tried deleting the "empty" Movies folder. It went away, but I'm still missing all of my space!
SSH'd in with SSHDroid. Went to the root and did a "du -hc".
In total, it only found 4.5G of data, including all OS, app, and user files. Where is the rest of my space? Am I going to have to do a factory reset to get it back?

So I feel stupid now...
Multi user accounts. Apparently you get completely separate storage roots. When you plug the device into the computer as one user, other users can't see what you copied. Seems so obvious now.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
I apologize if these questions have already been answered but I didn't see them in any Nook HD+ forum/thread.
1) I downloaded some books from B&N prior to rooting the Nook. I then rooted the Nook HD+ and I can still read the books thru the default reader but I can't seem to locate them in any folder. I tried two different file viewers from Google Play and can't seem to find them anywhere. Does anybody have an idea of where they could be stored? I know they are stored locally somewhere since I have WiFi turned off. My reason for asking is I would like to access them from the new launcher (using another reader) rather then going to the B&N home page.
2) My next question involves connecting to my desktop. I use openSUSE and run WinXP in an Openbox VM. Whether in Linux or using WinXP in VM I can't access the folders on Nook. I was able to get the drivers working to use ADB (in the WinXP VM only), but I can't get any folders to show up in a file manager. Well, I actually get one folder to show up, called "NOOK", but it has very limited storage. I tried this with both developer mode on Nook turned on and off. I can transfer files to Nook (and see personal folders) when using Win Media player and Nook set to MTP, but I can't see any folders with a file manager. Any idea on what is going on? BTW, it would be nice if I could see everything from Linux without having to use WinXP.
Thanks for any help. Also, many, many thanks to Someone0 for the simple root instructions. Much better use of the Nook HD with general Android apps available.

No clue...the external sd card also gets a B&N Downloads folder.
Hi All,
This is a desperate plea!!
My daughter deregistered my kindle (the screen was password protected and she tried to break into it and clicked whatever was being displayed it seems. She is only 5 !!) and when I re registered it all my files that I have downloaded the whole year are lost! I got normal books back. However, I have downloaded many pdf books related to all sorts of things, which I normally view using ES File explorer. I had Dolphin and firefox android browsers, which are gone too. Everything is gone now. Is there a way to restore my files ?
I have installed ES File explorer but can't see any of the files.
Many thanks in advance.

Any items available from Amazon will still be available from your Amazon profile. Anything you independently owned will not be retrievable if you made no back up. Did you make a nandroid backup? I would recommend using Titanium Backup from now on. In this situation the items would be retrievable.
Hi Thank you all for yout responses. I am looking for a data retrieval program that can retrieve files from kindle hard drive, especially free. The ones I have tried are not listing Kindle hard drive, though I can see the Kindle in the WIndows explorer after connecting it to the PC.
I will try to do it with Ubuntu..Hope it works. more ideas please?
That's because your PC doesn't have raw data access to the emmc, least I don't believe it does, it uses a mtp connection which is kinda like a network share in a sense. Short of pulling the emmc off the motherboard and soldering it to a USB SD card reader and using data retrieval software that supports the ext4 filesystem I don't see a way to recover the data unless there's a data recovery app in the Google marketplace. Sorry that this is a bit of a downer...
