I have a Moto X(4.4) Dev edition running the unofficial TWRP v2.6.3.1. I recently encrypted my device and now TWRP can't make nandroid backups. I know why it doesn't work but my question is this. Is there any way for TWRP to mount my encrypted data partition?

You can step right into it. It recognizes your twrp folder. Use recovery tools to flash the IMG from home.

I encrypted my device to keep people with the ability to breach my data partition with ease out of my device since a screen lock is so easy to bypass especially on a rooted device with a custom recovery.

Yes I'm aware of why it failed...the point of this thread was to find out if there was a recovery capable of mounting an encrypted data partition. Obviously it would have to ask for the password but that's what I was looking for.

I am currently not rooted but I have Twrp installed and bootloader unlocked!
If being rooted is a big thing for you now (there really is no need to be just yet), When I had my G Watch, there was a toolkit over there that did all 3 things for you. The dev claims its for G Watch only, but a reply was posted that someone had success on the Live as well, which I dont see why that would be an issue considering its the same OS on both..
If you want to be the test person...feel free !!

You are right..It was a different thread and he was referring to his app working..not the toolkit...I misread that .
Regardless...as I posted on my reply...unlock your bootloader...reboot the watch and let it set up etc...After a few min, flash the TWRP file in ADB...reboot into TWRP,,,then reboot the watch...
Those are the steps I did and I have TWRP installed...but no root access yet :|

How did you?
Sent from a Galaxy 5 light years away
it was alittle confusing (well the twrp terminal part) but these are the steps he gave me:
Install TWRP, use that to root your device. Then remove the /System/app/Superuser.apk.
Boot into TWRP
Mount the system
Use the TWRP terminal emulator
rm /system/app/SuperSU.apk
I went into TWRP, mounted the system, and went to reboot the watch, at which point it said that I was not rooted and asked me to install Superuser...I clicked yes, then rebooted and let it settle
Went back to TWRP, made sure system was still mounted, and used the built in file manager (I really had no idea how to use the TWRP terminal since there was no way to input the rm command on the watch itself) to manually remove the Superuser.apk.
So since I apparently am the only human in existence that doesn't own a computer (because I don't need one) so far the only option I have for running the stock ROM is by this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/rom-stock-rooted-vzw-212-55-26-t2829123 unfortunately this requires the use of a computer. Are there not other options to flash the stock system rom without the use of a computer? I have tried to flash this rom that I have linked but it doesn't do anything other then sit there and bug out.

Um...that ROM is only for those with unlocked bootloaders or safestrap.
If you ARE unlocked, you CAN flash that with no computer.
If you aren't unlocked, no such luck.
Why don't you clarify a bit.....are you unlocked or not? How are you trying to "flash it"?
Not having access to a computer really limits what you can do with these devices. Especially if you run into issues, then a computer is a must. If you have no way to use a computer, it's seriously best not to mess with the phone. Or you may be buying a computer just to do a simple fix.
Just my 2 cents.

I am indeed unlocked.
However when I try to flash it (like a normal rom) it fails during each time. I cannot take a screen shot because I am in bootloader.

OK, then you are doing it *completely* wrong!
You don't flash these types of ROMs from the bootloader -- you flash them from Custom Recovery (TWRP). Have you flashed TWRP? Are you rooted?
Normal ROMs (SBF / FXZs) are flashed from the bootloader. Recovery roms (like the one you liked above) are NOT.

Two posts ago you said you were in the bootloader. No reason to yell - the bootloader is not TWRP.
OK, I see the problem now. THAT flashable zip does not include the Kernel (boot.img) or the radio. A computer IS required for that to work. All I can suggest is borrow someone's PC to finish it.
Some ROMs include boot.img, and some do not. This one doesn't. You will need to use fastboot to flash the kernel and baseband.

Here is a suggestion:
If you can find someone who has --already-- flashed this particular ROM, you can ask them to take a TWRP backup of JUST boot (it won't take long, and it won't be that big). You can flash the backup from within TWRP.
It shouldn't hurt to be on an older baseband (modem), so that could get you going until you can access a PC.
If you intend to use a flashable zip in the future, make sure it includes BOTH /system AND /boot.
Sorry I didn't check on that earlier....it sounds like you had already tried to flash it though. Hope you aren't stranded in a non-working state right now though. If you can get your hands on a friend's PC for 15 minutes or so, that would be best.

The bootloader has nothing to do with encryption. This doesn't exist.
Is it not this? http://www.droid-life.com/2015/07/27/operating-system-warnings-may-soon-come-to-your-boot-screen/
If it is, your device is fine. It just means your modified the operating system, and Google would like you to know that your data may no longer be safe with a modified system.
Further explanation of the warning here: https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/6185381?p=verified_boot&rd=1

Ignore. It's Google-policy. Google is growing and also the distance to the users. They don't like that we will modify the phone to our needs instead of the needs of Google or Telecom providers.
Its weird for me as I got the message but my system hasnt been rooted or anything (on my N9). was thinking of doing a factory reset. Still might do that just to get rid of it. (I did dirty flash preview 3 over preview 2)

Yes, makes sense. If it bothers you, you could do a clean install....
Yeah plus the new restore feature on M works pretty well with restoring app data (provided you don't cut off your connection during the restore)
My nexus 6 is completely stock and i get that annoying " corrupt " message as well. It is just my bootloader that is unlocked if it's the reason of that message.
edit : i fixed my issue, check here if anyone have corrupt warning with a fully stock system.
Every time I reboot my phone, it resets to factory settings and I see the "Welcome" screen. It only does this when the time in TWRP is inaccurate (e.g. 10:03AM when it's 8:49PM). I've reinstalled twrp, reinstalled the ROM, locked and unlocked the bootloader, but nothing works. I just get the same blue screen.
I actually have the exact same issue
Anyone? (bump)
thats a strange issue you on custom rom? i dont have this device but i ordered it and this post getting me worried
captain here i had the same issue this morning when i tryed to reboot to add some mods on Octos Rom it's a bug in force encryption i really want my data to be secured and encrypted but at the same time it makes it hard to play with.

I have only tested on T-Mobile and us unlocked so flash at your own risk if u have a different device variant.
It was made for T-Mobile and us unlocked so I'm not sure if it would work on other variants.
Source will be updated in my github https://github.com/TWINNFAMOUS/android_device_htc_ocl/tree/android-7.1
MAJOR THANKS & CREDITS TO @Captain_Throwback @nkk71 for all the help with getting twrp working and decryption.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img or what ever you name it.
Flashes images and zips and will take full backups.
Also is stock T-Mobile recovery.
I need a stock T-Mobile boot.img and system if anyone decides to send me one it would be appreciated.
Known bugs for twrp 3.2.1-0
Reboot to recovery does not work.
We need kernel source to fix so don't ask unless you know there's kernel source.

The test TWRP build on here works for me. Can't access SD card/data. Is that still a known issue or did I do something wrong when flashing? It took a few seconds to load TWRP when rebooting to recovery, then it asked for a password, where I just pushed Cancel. Then I swiped to allow modifications. No access to data though.
Thanks for this though dude! It's progress!

It won't unencrypt data. It did for me sometimes but not everytime and when I looked at the log it said my data partition was set to ext4 but said it was Emmc so I tried to change f.stab file and it still wouldn't unencrypt.
So I went to Twrp and in advanced format settings I clicked data partition and chose repair or change filesystem and changed from emmc to ext4 then it worked after it formatted. The only problem is now my secure boot doesn't work and Twrp never asks for a password. I wouldn't recommend doing what I did.

Check this out. They have twrp but it needs to be formatted first to enable encryption. I guess magisk doesn't do this but SuperSU does? Maybe you'll understand.
Hope this helps.

I did the format data already and I use the same supersu that I use on my HTC 10 the only thing I had to do is flash back stock boot.img because su wouldn't patch the magisk one. Now we need some custom roms.

Any clue what the easiest way is to go back to my unformatted data? I formatted so I could see internal... Now I wanna go back if twrp will read internal now
Thanks.

Everything on test2 works for me. But I did already format my data before on the first build, so i can't really be the best review for this. But for me, all is working great. Thanks!
