I just got a notification on my Note II that a new firmware update is available for the Gear. Could this be the update to Tizen that was rumored/announced a month or so ago? I'm hesitant to update and find out, only to find out I'm stuck on Tizen and can't go back to Android.
I think you can look at the size of the update before downloading. If it's 16MB it's probably just NA6 that others have gotten recently. I'd be surprised if it was tizen. Very surprised...

Could be Fitness with Gear app. that recently got pushed for Note 2 fitness integration with Gear.

I didn't see a date. I am freaking out trying to understand this. Is the Note2 ready to update? Kies doesn't recognize my phone and the OTA says no update...
Will the gear pair up with a galaxy tab 8" using apk on other thread?

There are several articles about a leaked update file from Best Buy that announce 4.3 upgrades to several devices. Here is a link to one:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/10/25/leak-samsungs-american-android-4-3-and-galaxy-gear-update-release-schedule-for-the-galaxy-s4-s4-active-s-iii-and-note-ii/
I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 and got my upgrade yesterday via OTA. It appears the leked schedule is accurate so far on the first update.
Good luck hope you get your upgrades on time, it brings out all the capabilities of the Gear.
From my reading KitKat, is designed to work on devices with as little as 512 kb of RAM, has bluetooth improvements.
For these reasons would it not be in Samsung's interest to upgrade the Gear to KitKat?
It is not a phone and so Samsung does not need carrier approval, they can just update the firmware.
When do you think a upgrade will happen?
I am thinking maybe 3 or 4 months, my guess.

Doubt it,
Upgrade cycles are about a year.
Anything less angers people.
The device is just about perfect anyway, nothing new they can do, but at the end of the day it does not matter Samsung can still and should keep up to date existing "New" products.
You buy a Gear in November and in January, Samsung says sorry it is obsolete ??
I think that would anger a few people, myself included.
Bro thinking about it. They have more returns. Then people buying them. There will be a gear 2. Soon. With Google and apple coming out with one. Samsung will not keep themselves in the dark.

I say nothing from Apple until at least May. Same for the Gear 2. I'd like to see 4.4 on this watch. The watch we have has the ability to do more. It's just a matter of updating software.

Doubt the return thing.
PC Magazine says 30%, high granted but more reason to clamp down and give us a update.

Dont look like they are running tinzen os then?
Evleaks is now saying that these watches are not Galaxy branded. So it seems Samsung is presumably just going to run with the Gear branding.
This is from gsmarena.com
Yep, these are probably the Gear 2 and Gear Neo... later will probably be the Gear Fit. I'm glad it doesn't look too different from my Gear watch... as I'm not ready to shell out more loot yet.
Digging the physical home button and new camera placement though.
Skype, anyone?

I am hoping that I can get a Gear Fit with it still having all the Gear 2 features like the camera.
I need to start saving now to buy this. Got to have it for my Note!
I saw a report saying they are indeed running tizen os.

Tizen on the new gear is a dead nogo imediately for me that is, I can imagine no apps for this thing and since tizen dont have an app store tell me how will we sideload apps from google play to it? The whole point was to make it slimmer and better. It looks the same. Looks thick like the gear and now its running tizen? Hell nah. Ill have to test it out and look more into it for me to buy it. Considering tizen is the os. I think I'll stick with my gear

Does anyone know for sure if the new Samsung Galaxy S5 phone? I just pre-ordered it, and now realized I was not sure of this.

Hi, I am considering getting a Galaxy Gear for $99 from Canada. Are there any major glitches, bugs, or shortcomings with the device? Can you root the watch so I can use sdk related software with the upcoming Android Watches? Can you use any apps on the Gear? Is it sturdy at all? Thank you.
Root is available for the device.
Check out the forum for the Galaxy Gear.
