That was the same with the M7. I believe that is supposed to do that. Just in case you are not wearing the blutooth at the moment.
I don't get that if I'm connected to Bluetooth headset I might not want to disturb people around me

Turn the ringer on your phone off, I leave mine on vibrate all the time and my Bluetooth still rings.

I use a hands free Bluetooth speaker while driving in my truck. Since I have had my Vivid I have not been able to get the volume to increase. I have used the rocker on the handset and on the speaker itself to no avail. It stays at the same volume whether I go up or down. I tried another speaker I have and it's the same thing. I also tried my Samsung Bluetooth earpiece and it also does the same thing. What could be going on. I only use hands free to talk on phone calls when I need to. Any suggestions? Do I have a bad handset? This is my only issue with the Vivid, other than that I love it.
So when you disconnect your Bluetooth the volume works?

I do not have any issues with volume for anything else whether I'm connected to Bluetooth or not.

It's probably just your phone, though it can still be your BT speakerphone. I use my Vivid with Parrot BT hardwired into my car stereo and have no issues with either calling or music streaming.
i am using a bluetooth stereo headset, and the stocked headphone with mic. when i get a call, i need to manually tap either speaker icon (in case of wired headphone) or bluetooth icon (in case of wireless) to get the voice in and out via headphones.
is this tapping necessary? cause when you don't have a free hand, it is quite inconvenience to do so. please advise.
I don't have to do that with my headphones. (I'm not using the stock ones though, so that may be it)

Have you tried just pushing the button on the headset, whether it'd be wired or wireless and see if it picks up the call? That's usually how it works unless you use auto answer when connected to headset

When using wired headset, ext. speakers or 3.5 audio jack in car my phone only rings once. The call will continue to come in but silently. Is anyone else experiencing this? Are there any settings ishould check? Thanks in advance.

I have a bluetooth headset that I use for calls when I'm driving to comply with the law here in California, but I also have a nice speaker system in my car. Whenever I connect my headset, it forces all audio to come through the headset as well as call audio. I know that I can go into the bluetooth settings for my headset and deselect the setting for media audio, but I would hate to do that every time I get into my car.. I have an NFC tag in my car and use Tasker a bit, does anyone know how to set this as a default setting or automate the setting change when I use my nfc tag?

Are you sure those settings don't persist?
Yep, 100 percent. At least on ARHD they don't. I've tested it quite a bit...

So I know that the galaxy gear connects to the galaxy phone via Bluetooth, and you can control music playback (probably only through the stock Samsung app)...But what if one has Bluetooth headphones...
Are you limited to one Bluetooth connection?

Not sure about using bluetooth headphones but I know the gear works to control grooveshark

I would also like to know this
Not a galaxy owner but for my HTC One at least I can connect to multiple Bluetooth devices at once. For example, the phone auto connects to my car stereo to make/receive phone calls but at the same time I am tethering my iPod touch by Bluetooth to the phone to use music streaming. I would think the phone link is similar to audio link. So perhaps android in general doesn't limit connections to one at a time?

I listen to music at work all day via my BT headset, and I use media controls on my Gear for choosing songs, changing volume, etc.
So yes, it works, and without any issues IME.
