I currently have cynogenmod 10.1 running on my phone (i9000). I would like to upgrade the version to cynogenmod 11. Because I get the error "set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed" I need to upgrade my clockworkmod recovery to version 6.0.4+
But when I try to download this at the official website, there is only an old version (2.5.1.2) available. Which also gives an error when I install it.
Can anybody link me to a 6.0.4+ version of clockworkmod recovery for the i9000?

I could send you a link to a flashable AOSPA kernel, which has the latest TWRP. Just let me know if you need it.
cmw recovery doesn't come as a stand alone flashable zip file on the i9000, it's included in the kernel, you'll have to flash a compatible custom kernel for your installed rom.

This is true in most cases. You should flash a compatible custom kernel making sure it supports android 4.4. You can flash using Odin or Heimdall. I recommend using semaphore 3.4+ or mackay kernel 0.611 (CWM).

Flashing a zip of another custom kernel would be better. He says that he has a Custom Recovery, so flashing a kernel would be better and easier.

However, just to be safer, you should flash via your computer as this will reduced the chance of flash errors. You're right that you can flash via custom recovery as this would be easier but I would prefer to flash via odin. I had always flashed via pc when I upgrade to a newer android rom. NOTE: You will need to flash a .tar file instead of .zip in odin.

Agreed, But it is a pain to get a zImage and to use Odin (I'd prefer Heimdall.)

Not sure on the options for CDMA, but I flash Hyperdroid's kernel via Odin to get CWM. I can also flash Overcome's kernel for it too.
I think you can flash humberos kernel from the ics team site. You ned odin or heimdall to flash. Take a look in the dev section,i think you find more help.............
Greets.......
1.to flash kernel,which is better?
2.to flash stock rom or custom rom, which is better?

1. CWM recovery
2. Stock rom - PC Odin
Custom rom - CWM recovery
It varies according your need
e.g.
for stock ROM and kernel PC odin is best, but same time if you want to keep root, you need to use other method (Mob odin/CWM)
For custom ROM - you have to use CWM only

If you have a Kernel in .tar format it can be flashed through Odin/Mobile Odin only, whereas .zip files can be flashed through CWM.
First make sure you are on a safe kernel before doing any flash.
Then for only kernel flashing I prefer Mobile Odin, if I have a .tar file available.
However, for any Custom ROM + kernel flashing (from a safe kernel), I prefer CWM recovery & not the CWM app.
How to install Clockwork mod recovery on my rooted Samsung Captivate i897? Plz explain it in full detail if you can.
Use Odin3 v 1.83 or similar. Download a .tar file version of a kernel that is compatible with what firmware u r currently running (example: use KK4 Corn Kernel v7.0A if ur firmware is gb i897uckk4). Open Odin, select the PDA tab, navigate on ur pc to the .tar kernel, select it, connect ur phone to the pc in download mode and select Start. Done. Reboot into cwm recovery.
Or since u have Root...copy the .tar kernel to ur phone's internal sd and use SGS Kernel flasher from the Play Store. Done...again.
Fyi, Don't use Rom Manager---it doesn't play well with the Captivate.

it installed an older version of CWM
then i proceeded to flash AOKP with that CWM, which somehow updated CWM to the latest version

Yeah, it installed an older version for me as well. Then, when I loaded the CyanogenMod 10 zip from sdcard, it updated ClockworkMod to latest, restarted, then I had to load it from zip again to complete installation.
Seems ClockworkMod is included in the CyanogenMod zip file and auto upgrades when it detects an old clockworkmod.
So I got together a few stock ROMs I want to flash over my Slimsaber, I'm currently on the TWRP recovery.
A lot of the flashing steps mention using CWM but how does TWRP fit into this? Is it the same as CWM?
Can I flash these stock ROMs the same way I used to flash Slimsaber? Most of them seem to be flashable zips and don't need Odin.
Stock rom are tar files and Odin can flash it. But if you are referring to TW based custom rom then yes TWRP can flash those too. It's just like CWM.
Hi!
Can I just download cwm from here https://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager and flash it via stock recovery like I had done with all my other phones? (Stock android 4.1.2)
I read many forums about that I have to flash Philz kernel first and use odin but is it necessary anymore? I also tried to look different kernel+cwm versions from Philz but newest download doesnt have any different kernel version (or I just dont find them).
You will need to use philz to root. On this phone recovery is in kernel.

No not that link.. There will be one for tw only.. Flash using recovery.. Tar version of the kernel can be flashed using Odin.. But flashing using Odin will increase the binary count..

You mean this -> http://d-h.st/users/philz_touch/?fld_id=25295#files
There is only XXLTA-ATL does it matter? Older cwm versions seems to have different version too.
After that I can flash roms and anything like with other phones?
Thanks for help!
That's that's one of the latest.. Match the rom version you have any other the kernel name and flash that.. Then you will be able to flash any rom but kitkat.
