Hey guys ive been trying to get all i need to flash xxjpy firmware just one question?
i saw (by complete accident i might add) a guide to ''how to flash with odin'' and the guy or whatever said i need an unlocked sgs - simlock free phone as it wer, is that true? Mine is a branded vodafone 100% locked on it. Will something unspeakable happen if i try to flash it this way? (Brand new phone so im kinda nervous)
Any help may be exchanged for sexual favors xD
ps: Only hot women are elligible for the above
It's probably safer to unlock your phone before you flash it using ODIN, for obvious reasons..
P.S. I pass on thy offer.
EDIT: To unlock your phone, try this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
So i should unlock then flash with odin......ok
one last questio Is it a permanent unlock or is it more like the iphone ultrasn0w type of deal? which needs to be unlocked everytime you update/restore?
Might be easier just to reg hack kies to get xxjpy?

which rom version are you on now ? you can always get the same version from samfirmware.com(you need to sign up to d/l the firmware) that your currently on.
If you really need to back up your rom then you'll need ROM manager & the phone needs to be rooted as well, the easiest way is to use One click root.
You don't need to have an unlocked/unbranded phone to use odin, you just need to have kies installed for the usb drivers & for kies to be exited whilst using odin.
Here is a pretty good guide for how to use odin, take you time read it throughly, make sure you understand it & remember your doing this at your own risk

Alright guys i have searched and tried and tried. Currently i am on dj11 with kernal version stated as 2.6.32.9 and right below it has [email protected]#3. I am on 2.2
So what ive tried:
-I used heimdall to flash back to stock but as you can see the kernal version says im still rooted although superuser app is not installed. This causes the update to fail
-I tried to use superoneclick method to unroot but it does not work
What i want is to be stock with no root and be able to update. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
FYI i also used all the thread procedures on the forum (gizmo ninja and how to unbrick tab)
Try using this stock unrooted rom. Link below:

Flashed and guess what?? Didnt work. Kernal version still says 2.6.32.9 [email protected] Ugh!!!
Don't know what the problem could be. That has always worked for me. If you go to the "System-- About Device-- System Updates" does it give you the option to update? When I have restocked mine and set up a wireless connection it always tries to download and install the update.

Yeah it does. Goes halfway and then stops and has exclamation mark. I tried gizmoninjas method to update but still quits. I'm totally lost.

I don't know what to do. If it were me I would go ahead and grab the EC02 update from here: http://www.blackmugmedia.com/Android/GT/Mirror/Roms/CDMA/Recovery to Stock /
Flash that. You will have the latest official release, or you could get the VZW Leaked Gingerbread release from the Developers section. (That is what I am running on my VZW tab).
Maybe if you flashed the EC02 update and then used the going back to stock instructions it would unroot you. I have always unrooted using that rom and directions when I wanted to start fresh from a custom rom that didn't quite work like I wanted it to work.

I will give that a shot. The current gb leak is rooted. I did post asking to see if they (oldmacnut) had the unrooted version. Personally I like the rooted option but I do want to sell the tab and can't sell it rooted unless the person doesn't care. Bedside this issue the tab is fine and working properly.
Thank you so much for all your help. I will keeep you posted on the outcome.
Nope didn't work. Still rooted. I'm so over this hahah

There has to be. Wish it was like my Droid charge and just flash via Odin. If I can get the ginerbreak leak with no root I will be happy.
Or sell it to someone that doesn't mind its rooted.

There is a unrooted version of Gingerbread that you can flash with Odin:
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...w-sprint-2-3-4-ef01-rooted-updated8-15-a.html
I haven't used Odin, but if you are familiar with it you might have luck with this. I think you use 7zip to extract and then use the resulting md5 file in the One Package location. You might want to look there and get that file.

I'm gonna give it a try tomorrow. I just have to make sure if I flash under phone or PDA with Odin. Don't know if you know. For phones its PDA. Not sure with tabs. Thank you so much

I just tried this.
Unzip the .md5 file with 7zip, you will get an error about no proper ending or something. Take your zimage, cache, param, dbdata, factoryfs, recovery.bin and place them in the proper locations in Heimdall. Flash your tab and let it boot up.
You should have a fully functional gingerbread without root.
I just did it on my tab.

Or i spent so much time doing this i think im attached now hahaha
Glad it worked the way you wanted. I went back to the rooted version of Gingerbread. Everything works the way I want it to so no reason to change (for now anyway).

I'm grabbing this for my friend, he can't get the update because he needs Wi-Fi and the phone won't connect to our University's Wi-Fi network. This won't break OTA for him though will it?

Will this update change anything with the bootloader or anything like that?

If you got 4.0.3 we need a copy of your OS before you upgrade. 4.0.3 has vulnerabilities that we need to get root. Sorry I don't know the procedure, but I am sure some dev will be more than willing to tell you.

Just saw this and need to let you know not to do any soft of fastboot or updating without backing up your files. The worry is you flash a retail bootloader and possibly cannot go back if you use these.

yeah, that's why i'm holding out... battery life sucks on the 4.0.3. it barely gets me 8-9 hours with moderate use. i've noticed there are huge drops in the battery level every now and then. i guess i'll just deal with it until we get the root thing sorted out.
is there a way to just mount the system.img.ext4? i've tried ext2explore and i've tried to mount it with Linux Reader. thanks

How it got bricked:
I managed to install root, but then I tried to flash the custom recovery, when I restarted the phone, It got stuck at boot logo.
I can still get into the stock recovery, I can use adb shell and see the filesystem. I was using 4.1.2, I think I might need to flash again the stock rom, but I don't know how. Can anyone help please?

Sorry, should have read a bit closer. I was going to recommend that you use CWM to flash ROMs back but you don't have the i9295. Where did you purchase it from? I'm from Australia, so I'm not sure about the US, but I think I've read in other threads that some Best Buys(?) have Samsung stores in them that have reflashed the stock firmware free of charge without actually checking your warranty. Maybe you want to look into this?

If you took the official OTA for 4.3, ML2, there is no known root exploit available. Odin is easy to flash with - there are 1 clicks that do all the hard work for you, all you have to do is put your phone into download mode and the app does the rest on your PC. Make sure you have the proper drivers installed. Best way I found was to download the software suite from Samsung for the phone. Without the proper drivers Odin won't see the phone (I found this out the hard way.)

No worries, I heard they were pretty good in the US. Remember though, you can't root it on 4.3 (yet). If they've set it back to 4.2.2 then you can root again and not update to 4.3. If they've set it to 4.3 then either you will have to follow @Devo7v's instruction to flash back or wait it out as a root method is currently being worked on.

Download the full ML2 Odin, check the MD5 to make sure you didn't get a corrupted download. MAKE SURE all the files are in the right place in Odin and flash away. It should put the stock firmware back on the phone. Then you can proceed from there.

The MD5 is sort of like the fingerprint for the file, so you need the MD5 of the file you downloaded to match the MD5 that was posted in the thread. Download WinMD5Sum from the website here. Under File Name load the ML2 Odin zip package that you downloaded. WinMD5Sum will generate the MD5 of the file you downloaded and you can compare that to the MD5 the uploader posted in the thread. If the MD5's match then that means you downloaded exactly what was posted. If the MD5's don't match exactly, then you have a corrupted download and need to download it again.
