[Q] How do I disable update notifications? - Sprint HTC One (M8)

I recently bought my M8 and I'm not sure if I want to unlock bootloader/root/S-OFF yet.
I've already downloaded the update and I can see the file in my download folder. I continue to get the notification asking me to install it. I don't want to install it yet, in case we don't get an exploit(?) for the update. But I also don't want to be asked constantly to install the update. How can I turn it off? Is it as simple as renaming the file?

Disable OTA Update?

Hey all,
I'm running a T-Mobile G1, rooted with JF's newest 1.5 firmware and running just fine. As of last night I started getting notified that my phone had downloaded the new security fix from Google and would like to install it. There is no "Don't install" option that I can find, just "Install Now", "Install Later...", or "More Info". I just have been going to the "More info" option and backing out from there which seems to delay it for a few hours, but it just keeps coming back. Does anyone know if it will be safe to allow it to install (I don't want to try for fear of losing my precious root)? If I can't let it install, does anyone at least know of a way to get it to stop bugging me about it?
Thanks,
Bob
I thought JF's builds blocked OTA Updates...apparently not JF's ROMS are old flash the cyanogen's cupcake! So many goodies inside
That's what I thought too. After telling it off enough times it seems to have given up, so that should fix it for now, just hope that it doesn't come back.
I haven't heard of anyone loosing root from any OTA updates...think about it, it's the same as flashing a new ROM.
It will never go away as long as there's an update though, only when you actually do update. Google is picky like that!

To keep the phone from checking for new updates try:
Go to Settings>Security, then scroll to the bottom, click firmware download and tick never. Should do the trick tho I don't know for sure as I haven't ever been prompted.
Then again, you shouldn't be getting OTA updates at all, haha.

You lose root because the update replaces the boot image and other images which are the key thing that is needed for root access on your phone.

[Q] Sideload Fix Update

Hey all, a friend just picked up a used Captivate. It had 2.1 on it when he got it so we got KIES and installed the Froyo update. He still isn't able to sideload however. I heard that AT&T pushed out an update to allow sideloading in May. We tried checking for firmware updates but nothing is showing up??? Is there a way to manually install this update on a non-rooted device? Why can't I find ANYTHING on the interwebs relating to this subject. Does everyone have root at this point or something????
Nevermind. Support chat on at&t was able to push the fix to the phone in seconds.

[Q] Root, install Google Wallet, and get official updates?

I'm considering getting a GS3 on AT&T soon. I know you can root and install a modded .apk of Google Wallet so I can use that with my phone. I want to stay on the stock ROM for now. Here are my questions:
1. Do I need to unlock in order to install Google Wallet?
2. If the only thing I change after rooting is installing Google Wallet (not removing bloatware, not messing w/ build.prop, etc), can I still get official Kies or OTA updates, or will that mess up the phone?
3. If I can't get the official updates, do pre-rooted "official" updates usually get posted pretty quick on XDA?
Thanks!
this forum is for the i9305, not the AT&T Galaxy S3.
You'll need to make sure the software status is "normal". Post in the correct forum for further assistance

Here's some of my opinion:
1. If google wallet is not originally fitted in your phone, you can install a modified wallet apk after rooting your phone, as the apk needs to be pushed into the /system/app folder. I don't think there's things to do with unlocking.
2. Don't worry about messing your phone up, root simply gives you higher control over your phone, if you don't mess your phone up, no one will. (but keep your eyes on some unknown app that requires root access, virus etc.) You will not get Kies or OTA update once you rooted your phone, regardless other changes.
3. But it's not a problem at all, simply use Odin to flash the firmware you like to update for, as long as you stay with stock firmware for your phone, I'd say there is nearly no risk.

OTA will not take, (mac osx, 4.4.4, small update)

Forgive me here. I have a VZW dev edition.
Currently running 4.4.4 stock rom. I had it rooted before and I think I recently lost root. Forgot why but I didn't really need it.
EDIT: I remember now. I did a factory reset. Did I lose root?
anyways the OTA that came a few weeks ago the small one will not install. I have enabled my apps again that I had disabled. I do not remember if I did a tether hack before which was just replacing a file. Bootloader is unlocked still.
So after the OTA downloads and reboots the android shows up the bar starts to move and then red exclamation mark.
Update unsuccessful.
What do I need to do? I also do not want to wipe data.
The OTA alert is annoying me to no end.
It sounds like the pre-flash validation checks are failing for some reason.
A few things don't add up in your post...
You have a Dev Edition, so to root you unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP, boot into it, and when it prompts you too, allow it to root (or if you don't get rooted, install SuperSU while booted to TWRP). IN that state, a Factory reset doesn't remove root. So did you root by some other method? If so, that is why the OTA is failing.
Next.. you say you did a tether hack that was just replacing a file. Did you put the ORIGINAL file back? If no, that will cause the OTA to fail.
The only way to really know exactly why is to NOT install the OTA, instead just download it. Move the OTA zip from /cache to your /SDCard (which takes root) after it finished downloading. Again Do NOT install it the "normal way". Make sure you have a working STOCK Recovery on your phone. Manually boot to stock recovery and apply the update zip via the menu options. When it errors, it will pause and tell you why, what caused the issue. You need to correct it and try again.
One final option... See -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/faq-how-to-prepare-ota-update-carriers-t3126425 you can take some time and read the first post... then skip to Post #2, and use the Requirements section, and Option 2.

Do NOT want to update, what should I do?

Greetings,
I have a phone with unlocked bootloader and root access. I sent it to a repair shop recently, and it seems that during the repair Huawei's OTA Updater has been set to "Download Update Automatically". Right now it has already downloaded a firmware update and is prompting me to restart my phone to complete the update - I do NOT want that.
I searched through sites to see how can I stop the update process.
1) The website (https://************/huawei-update-...kely-isnt-intentional-easy-way-to-fix-inside/) suggested to disable Huawei OTA Manager via /system/app/HwOUC, but I couldn't find that folder at all.
2) I am currently attempting to delete the downloaded update by removing /data/ota and /data/update/HwOUC, as listed in (https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/help/ota-file-location-t3857535), but I am still afraid to reboot my phone now.
May I ask if there is any other step which I should do, to ensure the update is NOT applied?
