Lately I've become far more aware about how apps I install on my phone are requesting privileges that frankly put I don't think they should have. IE: Bank of america having access to my camera and microphone to just name one of many apps I have an issue with.
It becomes more of an issue because some of these apps that request features I do not feel comfortable with granting permission are required for me to use with school and work so im not left with much of a choice in terms of granting them access or not using the app at all.
I was conversing with a friend about this very subject recently and he throws out the typical "IOS does that better than Android" bs so of course I called him on his bluff. Well to my shock and amazement in the IOS 7.x settings menu they have a privacy setting where you can select individual apps and decide which privileges they get to have. Like for example he was able to turn on the microphone and camera features in his Bank Of America app.
My questions is does Android provide something similar to this? If not can anyone tell me which custom roms or apps in the market that require root for the nexus 5 that do have this feature?
I would like to take back the control of my privacy on my phone so any help would be appreciated.. thanks!

If you're on Android 4 or 4.4.1 you can use App Ops. If you're on 4.4.2 (latest official OTA for the Nexus 5) App Ops was removed, but you can get it back if you're rooted with Xposed Framework and use the AppOpsXposed module.

Thanks for the quick responses guys.. I wonder why Android is making this increasingly difficult to access where Apple is making it increasingly easier?

Hi,
Is it possible to make a "New Folder" in WP7? Just for example: to put all games in a one folder?
Not at the moment.
App Folders to WP7? Not any time soon.

"We've been tipped off about an interesting bit of polling going on at the monsmartphone.net (they're a lot like us, but French!) regarding something that all Windows users are all too familiar with. Folders!
The question raised, "Would you like to be able to categorize your applications?", has caught some attention from their more organized readers. Users who've downloaded a lot of Apps were quick to remark that they don't like having to scroll so much to find the ones at the bottom of the pile.
Pinning the most frequently used apps to the Start Menu solves the problem easily but not at all if you're the kind of person to keep a lot of frequent contacts up there. Even more so if you're the type to collect applications - the Markteplace reached 7,000 apps not too long ago and like we said, there's no end in sight. The reasoning is there for some users, certainly. Other users, like myself, don't see the need. Not yet anyway.
Monsmartphone.net's writer, Detsch, had apparently submitted this quandary to Microsoft and from what we've gathered from throwing their site through the make-it-english machine (No, not just google translate! I made a real-live French person read it to me in English!) was that Microsoft does not currently think that this functionality is a priority in the evolution of their OS.
Read more after the break.
Whether or not there was actual scientific research done to back it up or if any charts were involved is unclear but they claim that they average number of apps used by the average user just doesn't require such a poll-worthy, why-don't-we-have-this, functionality. Interesting tidbits from the commentors brought up the option of it. Reminds us a little of Microsoft's position on screen captures.
If folders were eventually included in an update they would prefer it as an option - not a mandate that they had to follow through with. Some presumptions also include folder use for contacts following the lines of Work contacts, Pals, Bowling Team, and things like that. This followed suit with sms and the Games Hub as well with sorted genres.
The most interesting concept of note was not if people would like folders or not but the ability to categorize their apps. Meaning, apps could be categorized and sorted but not necessarily by using folders.
What if they were sorted into specific hubs that opened an additional app listing? That piqued my interest and got me thinking of a better question. If we had the ability to sort or categorize or filter our apps - how would you like it done and how would it work with the Metro UI?"

Hi all,I switch between android and ios every year. For example i have been using note5 till the iPhone 7 came out and switched to ip7. Now from ip7 switched to note 8.
Whatever iPhone i use i m always jailbroken.
Here are my observations.
Iphone has always been known for great apps and app store. While Android is great and known for the customization. But i always found that iphone always had better customization interms of integration 3rd party apps into the system while being jailbroken. For example. There is an app called whoozit pro on iPhone that can just pull info from a regular app store app like truecaller and display it on the incoming call screen. While Android truecaller app can also notify you with a banner on the screen, the iPhone displays text like it was from the contacts itself and looks much more like like stock, but android banner looks like some third-party advertising.
Another app called bioprotect simply locks apps using touch id. I haven't found a single app on the entire play store that can properly lock apps all these years. When an bioprotect locked app is tried to open it instantly askes for touchid and also blurrs out the preview in the recents screen. while every app on the Android allows users to see a snapshot of the app for a milli second befor asking for fingerprint. And worst when pressed recents button u can see a preview of the app all time you want. I dont see why a developer cant built a good app locker that can truly protect the privacy. Thinking of previews in notification its even worse too. No app does that too. While iphone has better cydia apps that does.
Some apps directly add buttons and functionality to the stock dialer apps, some can lock albums in the stock gallery app,
The list goes on.. None of these are available for Android and we brag customization.

Well, if I was to speculate, I'll tell you why: in the simplest terms iphone has maybe 5 current models, almost all the same as previous ones with little tweaks here and there, Samsung alone introduced more different types of phones in last 3 months probably. When you write app for Android you don't even know what cpu it will run on, it could be mediatek, exynos, qualcom and few others I can't even remember. It could be made by Samsung, LG, Sony and many others and operating system is written by Google with as little memory as 500MB and as much as 6GB. Is Apple still forcing system updates on everybody, like they used to in the past? I have phone running Android version from 6 yrs ago and most newest programs run fine. Because of strict restrictions and very limited hardware diversity programs can be tightly integrated with operating system, where in Android you can't do that, if you want your app to run on many different phones. If Apple was a country it would be dictatorship with one leader and all dressed in uniforms and Android would be democracy with everybody doing it's own thing and no one agreeing on anything LOL. But then if you're switching back and forth, it must be something that draws you to Android, so it can't be all that bad, or your switching don't make any sense. If I had to buy phone for my grandmother I would probably pick iphone, if I had iphone and was forced to use itunes to transfer few files from computer to phone or back and I do that often, I'm afraid I would smash the phone with the hammer and be out thousand dollars, but it's just me and maybe I'm nuts.

I've spent a great deal of time trying to assess what these Evenwell apps do and have managed to open up a few using secret codes taken from the apps manifest.
1) Use this code on your phone dialler - *#"#3277#*#* it's for Stability Monitor app. This app from the looks of it is designed to send Nokia/Evenwell log reports from ANR crashes, boot reports amongst other things. By opening up the Stability Monitor app, you can actually choose to send yourself all the reports instead of them being uploaded to a server by periodically having zip files saved on your SD card! Very useful indeed.
2) *#*#666#*#* - EMM app. Yes one of the most hated of Evenwell apps that stays running constantly unless you're prepared to use ADB commands. You can manually set up CPU, GPU and DRAM Governors as if you have a rooted phone! You can either switch them off entirely or have them in use at your options. The option2s are switch off, default, screen or heavy app. There are even options for when force stop apps occur and something called dropcache.
You can also see all current app processes and even what EMM considers to be whitelisted apps. Surprisingly it doesn't consider Google Play Services to be whitelisted which answers my own question about why I would get popups to say the app stopped. There is even a way to manually add an app to the whitelist but I have not been successful with this yet as I am not as technically gifted as most people in here.
I will see about uploading some images to the net so I can post here of actual screenshots as I have not made 10 posts yet here so I cannot upload direct from my phone.
There are a few others I've discovered I can open and will update here as soon as I work out what each app does and what you can do on them when you open them up.
I would appreciate some technical assistance with regards to the EMM app as so far by making my own amendments, all I've done is heat my phone up so high I struggle to pick it up! If anyone can test out the CPU, GPU & DRAM Governor options to see which are the best, please update here.
*EDIT* Here's a link to the album I created here to post screenshots -

You can't get rid of the default theme because it comes nativity with the OS and, as you can see, it's the same passing from oreo to Pie to 10 because it identifies the model of the phone and not the OS by itself.
The other two one's can be dowloaded and installed or not installed at all or even uninstalled once that you install them and you can find them in
settings > accessibility > visibility enhancements > high contrast themes
They give this choice, for having these two high contrast themes, to people having vision problems by themselves or for watching the screen in particular light conditions.
Anyway, since they don't take up a lot of space, I don't understand why your giving problems to yourself for accounting storage (if this is the reason) although the high capabilities of the note 9 in given a high memory expacialy if you put in a micro SD card...

The first one, being the default one, comes nativity with the OS since the phone was still in his box as new so you didn't even have the choise to install it at all....it was there and can't get rid of it even if installing something else to replace it.
For the other two one's , right, they are not installed when the phone was new but only having the choice of them in the settings of the phone like I previously said... anyway, if you installed them, they won't do nothing (not harmful for performance ) and they are even small so they don't occupate a bunch of storage. But your wrong when saing that they are not ufficial themes because they come directly from Samsung's theme store and their download with installation are indeeded to complete the high contrast theme choice in the phone's settings..so, I don't understand your fears for this...
The two to the right are not downloaded into your phone that's why they have the down arrow on them giving you the option to download. The only reason you can see them is that is your history of previously downloaded themes. The first one with the check is the stock theme which is applied to your phone.
Hi everyone.
I have an S21 Ultra, I'm new to Samsung.
I've been using Swiftkey for years, it's my preferred keyboard. It's also preinstalled on this phone (system software).
However, when I chose to use it, the system spell checker (red underlined words) doesn't work.
I've installed many other keyboards including Gboard, and they all work fine with the system spell checker.
Only Swiftkey doesn't work
I've contacted Swiftkey support, and they agree it's a system issue.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this? Has anyone else experienced this?
Samsung Keyboard, and/or Gboard, just aren't good for me.
Thanks.

Make sure it has all needed permissions.
The Samsung keyboard is actually quit nice and my favorite. Been using it for over 6 years. They wisely kept the original layout and added more options over the years.
Your animated and icon caused me mental distress.
Yeah I tried permissions, also because it's Swiftkey is preinstalled system software, most permissions were already enabled.
My understanding is the spell checker isn't part of the keyboard software, but the phones system software. That for some reason when using Swiftkey, the system's spell checker doesn't recognize text is being inputted. Just as it turns off for url, or form entry.
Yes Samsung keyboard is nice. It's like one of those Range Rovers, very plush, and pretty. But it's not for me.

Lol, a dancing honey badger is very disconcerting
Maybe scoped storage is road blocking access as usual.
The app may need updating.
On Android 11 and higher scoped storage is fully active... and a menace.
