Pick cdma (Verizon) and use Faux's app and it works great. With Trickster mod OC would not stick. I got 2572 to stick which is what the asain version is clocked at.

Works on sprint too
From my m8 using XDA Premium HD app
I threw it on my M8 with Viper. Paid for the app too. So far so good. I did need to delete viper's super user app and flash regular super user. But so far so good. I used the app to match the recommended settings that someone posted on one of the last pages of the kernel thread.
I tried this kernel on Viper, but it broke half my onscreen buttons and kept my second CPU on. I might try it on my stock rooted though and see how it goes. It did also break my Titanium Backup ramdisk fix, but I can at least fix that myself.

Depends on wich Cognition you want if 4.x.x or 5.x Either way both have instructions on their Dev thread.

Well for Cog 5 you will need to flash GB bootloaders. BUT the 3 steps on the OP will work. There some risk when flashing bootloaders, but read up on how to use ODIN and they key combinations, nothing to it =)
I dont know...i looked back on the dev page but i cant download anything since i dont have unknown sources. Ill dig around for a video or something.

I would suggest Flashing Cognition 4.5.3. Its a Froyo based rom but its alot easier to get running runs great easily OC/UV to 1.2ghz I've gotten my phone to 1.4ghz stable (that may vary on your phone)

If its stock, then its just getting CWM on that phone and flashing it. To get CWM theres a few ways to do that, simplest would be get a 1 click root from dev (AIO toolkit is very useful) and install Rom Manager from the market install CWM. Move the Cog zip file to your phones Internal SD reboot in recovery (Rom manager has the feature to do that) and flash from SD, look for the cog file.
Once again, here we go. ********{this for the V9 software update. you can check software versions from the settings, about phone menu from your revo}***********
################################ FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK ##############################
Got the stock kernel from the latest LG/Verizon update V9.
Enjoy!!!!!
Download
Instructions: Download, boot cwm, flash, roboot, cook dinner, shower, do some laundry, save the world..... :victory: Have fun!!!!!!
## REMEMBER: give things time to settle. Things will get better, with the exception of horse power
NOTE: installation will wipe dalvik-cache. First boot will be looooooooooong, and mostly blank. Don't get scared. The stock 4G boot ani plays then screen goes blank for looooooooooooooong boot. Working on the boot ani thing.
****Any issues, Holla****
Edit: for some unknown reason, at least to me, your boot ani will be erased. Reinstalling does not work. Working on fix.
Edit: super user might have issues after installation. CWM 6.0.1.1 detected the error and corrected it for me. If you don't get an error on 'su' from cwm, then just reboot like normal and you 'may' have to reroot. easy work-around for now Does not affect cwm..
I haven't tried it but I aim to. Getting rid of the stock boot sound (annoying and obtrusive) would be great! Thanks for sharing your work.

Appreciate it mane. no sound on the boot. Just the ani, the 4g, purple, swirly thing.

I don't know a ton about how kernels and roms work with each other so sorry for the noob question...
Does this work with both the stock ROM and Broken Out? And would it interfere with a future ota update?
Thanks for your work!

Will this work if still on v8?
I'd make a back up first, but I don't see why not. There wasn't that much of a difference from v8 to v9. Let me know if you run into problems, if you try it. I'm just curious.

Both Titanium Back up and ROM Manager Pro get hung up, even after re-installing them, and I already got a screen freeze lol, guess its back to blitz. I'll try this again if I ever update to v9
Idk. I don't think it has anything to do with clock speed. I'm beginning to think vod is just a revo issue.

Not sure if this is an isolated incident but after using this stock kernel, I got Superuser (Elite installed) lockup and FC'ing. I couldn't get any root app to work. SU binary is latest v3.1.1 (17). I reverted to my latest BO v2.0 nandroid and all is fine again.
Only recent change I could think of prior was an updated Root Explorer which was coincidentally the first root program I attempted after. It err'd saying it was waiting for SU access and needed to be restarted, but that changed nothing. Neither did clearing SU and SU Elite data.

Honestly, now that you mention it I did notice that. Now that I look through the cwm logs, I see I had a su error while flashing. Apparently, the new cwm fixed it. Hmmm. Same for the wifey.
Good to know that root is still attainable.

Quick question. I followed the directions, going to cwm and installing this zip. When it comes back on, I go to about phone and it still shows it's on zv7. Is it ok to install the latest broken out revo, or is it safe to assume it didn't actually install zv9? I was previously on gingervolt zv7, any suggestions?
PS thanks for providing this btw!

I received the SGH-i957 for work and they told us not to add any weird apps. What I want to do is remove some the crappy AT&T apps to use less resources. I have rooted an EVO 4g and a HTC Arrive Windows Phone as well as my old HTC Touch Diamond. I have been reading the different threads and I am just curious what you guys think the best method is?
It really doesn't use more resources

I will go into more detail I guess. I want to backup how they gave it to me and run it custom, be it remove apps or a new rom. I am worried about some kind of privacy issues. With my HTC Evo 4g I could backup the original rom completely and then uninstall programs or install a new rom.

Flash twrp and make a nandroid backup then do your root process.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda premium
Yeah, I am definitely rooting it. It is ungodly slow with only a few programs on it and it keeps using at&t data even though I have removed all widgets and have very few apps installed. I know that know one wants to hear me say this but every time I use Android I dislike it more and more. I am sorry if I offend anyone.

Ok, I got permission from the boss to root and either clean up the stock rom, remove crap, or load a custom rom. So should I just follow the guide in this and if I have to run a custom rom use the on in this thread. Do I have to use the twrp and nandroid backup to make a backup? Or can I restore the stock rom buy using Method 2 after I follow the Method 1 in the root guide?

Disclaimer: Flash this ROM at your own risk. I am not responsible for what you do on your device. I left this stock to provide a base for anybody that wants to use it. Mod this rom how you want. Just please remember to give credit where credit is due.
This is a pure stock rooted rom. It has items like busybox, init.d support and so forth. No apps were added or removed. Both Odexed and Deodexed versions below.
This is using stock unmodified kernel from HTC. Kernel source can be grabbed from HTCDev

That option was there before too, but it reset it to "off" after updating. It's off by default in the shipped rom too, for some odd reason.

I unlocked my bootloader and installed a custom recovery. Then i intalled the supersu zip file and a custom rom. after that i found supersu and super user on my phone. Is it safe to uninstall one of them?
Yes it's safe to uninstall one of them but if you're not bothered which one you keep then I suggest uninstalling SuperSU.
I say that because I flashed back to a stock ROM a while ago and also flashed the provided rooting tools so that I could keep root access. Once I rebooted to stock, I installed SuperSU from the Play Store and decided to uninstall Superuser as I didn't need both of them on there.
Later that day I found out that I only had partial root access. I could use root apps like ROM Toolbox but I couldn't make any changes to /system.
In the end I reflashed the rooting tools so I could get Superuser back and everything worked perfectly again.
I'm not sure whether it was just a temporary problem with SuperSU or not but as long as you don't mind which you keep, that would be my advice
