Waking to Home Screen - Sprint HTC One (M8)

I noticed recently that whenever i swipe to unlock the phone it goes to the last screen i was on rather than always going to the home screen. I'm talking about double tap to wake the screen (or power button), then swipe the lock icon upwards.
I feel like this changed after the recent OTA update. Anyone else notice this?
Kind of annoying to me, because I put my most frequently used apps on the Home Screen for a reason.

Mine goes to the home screen before and after the update. Worked fine on stock rooted and both custom roms I've been running.
EDIT: sorry I misread. You are correct when you lock it on another screen it opens back up to that screen. I guess I'm just used to locking mineon home screen.
Sent from my wicked HTC One M8.

kind of odd, don't you think? I mean, why wouldn't there be a way to always wake to the main home screen page regardless of what was on the screen when the phone went to sleep?
unless i'm totally missing an option setting or something.

Double tap then swipe left opens to home screen. Swipe right opens to blinkfeed. But yes, swipe up opens to last app...I personally like it.

Try swiping from RIGHT TO LEFT lower on the screen. I think if you're halfway up or higher it swipes to the "widgets panel". If you swipe left lower on the screen or using the "lock" icon it will unlock to your homescreen.

That's strange. I just tested it on my phone and I actually had a ton of trouble getting it to show me my lock screen widget page, and NOT go to my homescreen. I purposefully locked my phone on my second screen, then swiped from Right to Left on the lock screen and it unlocks the phone right to my homescreen everytime. If I swipe from Right to Left on the screen when it's off, it unlocks to my homescreen everytime.

I just re-read this and it sounds like we're confused on the gesture direction or you are referring to "Blink Feed" as "widget's panel" when you say it's the left most Home Page Screen. When your phone is unlocked and you swipe to the left most screen, that is Blink Feed, unless you have it disabled.
Are we misunderstanding your issue?

When unlocking the phone and going up through the lockscreen, it will always go to the most recent page. One gesture I didn't see you try was swipe up with the lockscreen off. I'm not guaranteeing it will work, but it's worth a shot. What's weird is swiping from right to left should take you to the homescreen, technically.

Hmm maybe it's some bug caused by disabling Blinkfeed. I have Blinkfeed enabled, so that is my left most screen, where as you do not.
I've tested the same things you did and mine does not act that way.

Swiping up with screen off alway goes to the last screen that was on before going to sleep, which is exactly what it's supposed to do.

i tried turning on blinkfeed and doing the same things, and nope, still can't get it to wake to the home screen unless it was on the home screen last.

what's weird is i really can't remember it being like this before the recent OTA update

Have you tried deleting the page or copied the contents of the original home screen to another page, and then set that one as the home screen? Or maybe clear data on the launcher? Just some ideas. The last possible solution I could think of is factory resetting, which is always annoying.

Settings > Apps > All (swipe right) > HTC Blinkfeed (I think that's what they called the launcher) > Clear Data.
It'll reset your homescreens, but that's not too big of a pain.

mine does that too now and I'm on cm 3.9.11.2. It goes to whatever screen my seach widget is on.
That happened to me once but then I realized I had five homescreens...
I've heard of people having issues after flashing from one rom to a different if they did not clear the widgets off their home before flashing.

[Q] Clean home screen

Hello
Purchased my Galaxy note several days ago.
I'd like to know if it's possible to make or 'create' a home screen without any widgets and/or shortcuts. I just want to see my wallpaper on it. In case need a shortcut I'd like to switch to another homescreen where i've configured the shortcuts I need.
Thanks in advance!
Sure, it's possible.

Yes, of course you can! You are allowed upto 7 homscreens in the default Touchwiz UI. All you have to do is select one which has no widgets or shortcuts and have it as your default screen. You can also manually delete widgets and shortcuts by holding the widget and dragging it to the bottom of the screen (dustbin icon).

If you want a completely clean screen, you may have to use another launcher. I use ssLauncher, and it can do that. Others can too, I am sure.
Actually, you can get rid of them. Just tap on applications button from home screen (bottom right button) > menu button > edit > slide bottom buttons away and voila
If you do this, make sure at least the applications button is somewhere on another home screen.
Don't think it's very practical, though.

At this point I have 2 homescreens left. One with the application button at the bottom and the widgets and shortcuts I use most and one with only my wallpaper but still the application button visible at the bottom. As you can understand I want to get rid of the application bottom at the last mentioned homescreen, but that doesn't seem to work. Tapping on the application button the application menu opens, but the application button then is no longer visible and it is changed in the homepage-button.
you might want to look into the app called SwipePad
its awesome for minimalistic homescreen with LOTS of options for quick app access

Thanks for the tip....but I'd prefer to accomplish this without installing an app that changes my lay-out and graphics and also changes it to English. I don't have problems with this language, but I'm Dutch, so I want my phone keep it that way.

[Q] Moving Home Screen

No way to do it on the stock launcher.

I haven't found a way either. I bought my phone Thursday, the moment it was released. Prior to that, while researching some pre release reviews (I read so many, Phone Arena, Droid Life, CNET, etc etc) I ran across a review lamenting the fact that the home screen was moved to the left instead of the center, but I can't remember which site it was. I had the Home screen in the center on my 2013 Droid Maxx and then I had screens to the left and right with various themes (this is my media, music and movies screen, this is my games screen, this is my productivity, etc). The location of the Home screen on the Turbo is where I had my music, movies, and media on my Maxx. It was weird getting used to the Home screen being all the way to the left, but after a few days I'm fine with it.

Long press on a blank part of any screen, widgets and wallpaper option appear at the bottom. At this point you can long press any of the pages and move them around.
Thanks, that's useful. But it doesn't solve the problem that pressing the "home" button takes you to the leftmost screen. It was much handier having it take me to the center screen, from which I could swipe left or right for my three main screens.

Exactly. Nova is also very fast.
Plus you can add number of screens, decide how many rows/columns of icons you want per page.
You can upload backups of your screen layout to Dropbox or email, so any future phone can have the layout you want.
Lots of stuff.
I even have a different icon theme than Kitkat, downloaded from Google store.

Double tap to wake screen? Think LG were first to introduce this.i rembere there were some apps on play store just to do that. Some gesture apps might have that feature.
But Note 8 has alternatives. You can wake up with on screen vibrating button and you can change sensitivity. Also using AOD it has sift button to double tap.

Hard press home is a much better alternative, at least in my opinion to double tap anyway.
Just press where the home button should be (even if you can't see it) as if it was a physical button, the phone will vibrate as if you have pressed a proper button and it will turn on, or go home.

The big advantage is the prevention of accidental taps since the area to tap is much smaller than the whole or half the screen area

These are from the S8+ forum. Haven't tried the double tap. Remove battery icon, carrier hider, and remove unlock text works.
Ok, so I guess they work except for the nav bar stuff. And reboot after installation of mod
The only thing with double tap to wake or hard press the home button is you still have your security feature after that. I find it easier just to hit my fingerprint. But I use Nova for double tap to sleep.

Hmm. Yes. Sometimes just to see the notifications I do not want to hit the power button.
You can double tap the Active Display home button. It will take a HARD press or a double tap. It doesn't use the whole screen, but I like the double tap better.
Anyone know how to combine the "lockscreen" with the "pattern"... basically have the pattern always display (and hidden)? It seemed to be an option on previous devices.
I just want to turn on my screen and swipe in my pattern. Right now, the minimalist lockscreen (while pretty), requires an EXTRA unneeded swipe before pulling up the pattern view.
There are too many taps/swipes going on just to get to the desktop. May seem trivial but I'm on my phone a lot for work so I am trying to save as much time as possible.

I use the "press screen" option with the Iris recognition and works flawless. Is fast and secure. Should give a try
Yea I've experimented with that. The picture it took of my eyes was blurry af, so I don't even know how it would work. It is pretty fast though, but the point is I don't want to really pick up my phone every second. Again, I work from home and in remote Support. I typically am remoted into a couple sites and use my phone for my dedicated email screen. So every few seconds I have to unlock.
I just feel like the Active Display is a good lockscreen already. Maybe I'll just remove the "lockscreen" altogether since it just adds a bunch of extra unneeded steps. What I want is just an Active Display > Hard Press or Double Tap > Pin or Pattern. The extra lockscreen is useless.

What is active display? You mean the always on display (aod)?
Anyways I think the phone does what you are asking.. with my phone on the desk I push down on the home button and it goes from the aod to the pattern in one press of the virtual home button. Then I swipe in my pattern.
You can also lower the pressure needed for the home button

In Display > Navigation bar options, there is an option for Hard press bypass the lockscreen. It was turned off in my phone. Someone in another thread clued me in.
That works as requested. It was just in a weird place. That option should be in lockscreen, since it directly references actions with the lockscreen.

I mean it affects every aspect of the UI, so I could also see the location of it argued the other way. Guess that's why we have a search bar in settings.

Hidden Space gesture - pun intended ??

Not sure who knows, but if you do a vertical "pinch out" gesture on the default OnePlus launcher, it brings you straight to the Hidden Space. I've linked a video explaining what I mean.
