Is anyone else getting a "tapping" noise when on a call on any AOSP/CM based KitKat build? I have tried several ROMs (Beanstalk, LiquidSmooth, CarbonROM, DirtyUnicorn) and every one I get an occasional tapping sound well on the call, like someone is rapping their fingers on a door or glass countertop.
I have reverted to stock twice and taken the 12B OTA update, rooted and installed TWRP, and reflashed various ROMs to try to clean it up, but no dice... it is consistent among all KK builds, but no sign of it on stock 4.2.2, clean as a whistle audio there.
This doesn't seem to be an issue others have reported too much, just curious if it is known issue or I am just unique...

THANK YOU!!! That fixed my problem completely... two conference calls and a few dozen other phone calls and no tapping sounds what so ever, never would have expected that was the issue.

Hey all
I'm using the sultan kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39590429) and cm10 nightlies.
I'm having 2 issues with the kernel and I'm wondering whether they can be sorted:
1. Once in a while the notification drawer will freeze and when I reboot the phone it resets my homescreen and some of my settings, this also happens when I try change the gorvenor or go into kernel tuner
2. Horrible sound distortion, the phone's volume was louder as stock and wasn't distorted at all. Is there a fix for this?
thanks in advance
For #1 there isn't much you can do... we need android1-7 to figure it out...
And if you look at the name of the kernel you flashed... the zip anyway... you'll see call volume test... and that should answer your second question...
Sent from my Vivid 4G using Tapatalk 2
thanks for the reply, but you'll notice it's about in call volume, not out the loudspeaker, sorry should've been more clear, it's the loudspeaker that's distorted

Specifically which version of the kernel are you using ?
Your link dumps you on page 67 of an 83 page thread so I'm unsure which version of the kernel your using.
Beta 14 ? 13 ? one of the stable builds ?
I'm running beta 14, I've had the distorted speaker with all the versions

I noticed better sound quality on b13 from the loud speaker. b14 jacked up all volumes in an attempt to up the call volume... so... you can always go back to 13. Android 1-7 said he was going to work on it this weekend so you can also just wait...
It is beta after all...
Thank you, noe I'm a bit curious who/what is android 1-7

The kernel dev responsible for the kernel we are talking about.

Big Bug in the last kernel google play market crashes and the phone hanging in installed apps.
Battery out is the once reset for that ......
This make the device damage and bricked.
Best results work with standard CM 10 and his kernel .....

Randomly when I will unlock my phone from the active display screen ( when you just have to pull the lock icon down) there will be a solid 3-4 second Lag before the screen unlocks. Am I the only one experiencing this. I'm completely stock with the 4.4 ota on vzw.

Wow. All these problems with 4.4. It's running great on my N7, so I think I'll hold off. Tmobile didn't even push it out yet, but I like 4.2.2
I have the same issue on stock 4.2.2. Happens maybe a couple of times a day. Not sure the cause.

this is being discussed in another thread. it is a minor annoyance but doesn't seem to hinder phone operation.
I turned off slide unlock and haven't had a problem since. I think there's a bug between active display unlock and slide unlock...

Credits to the user that posted this. You can fix this by switching to no lock, unlock the phone using active notifications, and select swipe to unlock again. That fixed my issue and lag for me.

This helped me for about a day, and then the lag came back... note that (for me at least) the delay has only ever happened maybe 10% of the time, so it takes a while to test if it's actually fixed.
also it seems to be worst when swiping up into an application vs. down to the home screen.
I am experiencing this too since upgrading to 4.4. Gonna try disabling /reenabling Slidelock , see if it helps

Fix a no go for me
Tried the method posted above on my AT&T Moto X (newly updated to 4.4). Literally no more than ten minutes later, the lag was back. This is unfortunate.
on the soak test forums this has been reported by a lot of users, so Motorola is aware

They must have been well aware of it before they released any of the official 4.4 versions. While it doesn't happen all the time it happens enough any Motorola employee using it would have noticed. And they have been testing it for at least two weeks so really no excuse.
I believe they knew perfectly well about it but decided to push out the update anyway to be first to get 4.4 out the door.
I've been very impressed with Motorola so far, but this is a bit of a black mark, hopefully they are already working on a fix.
Does anybody else get a force close when going to Settings ==> Security? The lag described in this thread and my issue happened when I upgraded to 4.4, so I figure it's something related.
Guys I was getting the same issue after its update. I had some other issues with apps not installing force closing etc so I bit the bullet and did a factory data reset through recovery. Lag is gone and all other issues with KitKat fixed. YMMV

I just got done re-installing everything after doing a factory reset, and I'm still having the black screen for a second or two after unlocking an active notification. So I would definitely not recommend other people try this, unless you want to waste a few hours re-installing stuff.

I was just about to do a reset. Glad I came back here first.
I am also experiencing the lag. It seems to do it more when an app (such as chrome) is open when locking. I also noticed I have a really hard time with the two finger swipe down on the notification bar as well.

I even fastbooted the official firmware to complete stock again and I'm still getting it. It's obviously firmware related.
You guys have any idea why it would do that and what i could do to fix that.

Care to provide more information? Not really enough here to go on. What ROMs you're trying and what you've run in the past might be good places to start.
Ok sorry for late reply I didn't see this. I been having issues after issues with this phone the minute I rooted it lol. Constant crashes, keyboard broke so I had to get my swift key back, voice to text doesn't work at all on any Rom which is annoying me. Data keeps turning on and off. Battery will say full but keep getting low battery notification. Bucket full of fun most of it I will tolerate. I found out SuperSU or whatever doesn't work on 4.3 and I need to manually root it again which idk if I'm using the right file
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Superuser works fine on 4.3,broken kb sounds like rom issue. You flash a rom for sprint version right(or one with sprint support and no kernels (none for sprint phones yet)
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
I asked this q in the at&t forum but I didn't get any responses and I doubt it has anything do with at&t so I'll ask again here:
The issue is that sometimes turning the phone to landscape orientation causes the viewscreen to black out. Switch back to portrait and it comes back. I can take a picture, I just can't see what I'm taking a picture of.
I have the CM11 camera, CameraZoom, and ProCapture. I think this issue is happening in all of them but I'll have to experiment more if someone thinks it is an app issue. This is frustrating because it is not consistently reproducible - it happens when I'm out somewhere trying to catch a picture! I haven't been able to reproduce it in my kitchen.
Anyone have any ideas what is going on?
Sent from my GT-p511x
Does it only happen on the current rom that you're on, or does it happen on others aswell?
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The only two I've used are CM11 and Mokee and I'm pretty sure it's been on both. As I said, I haven't been able to reproduce it. It's only happened when I've been trying to capture a photo and I think only outside. However, it's not just bright outdoor light (my original thought but not reproducible). I'm clueless and was just hoping someone had an idea.
Sent from my GT-p511x
Honestly, I'd probably blame it on AOSP roms (assuming mokee is AOSP too). My roommate has had tons of issues with AOSP roms on his one, while I haven't really suffered very many on mine, but I've stuck to all sense based roms since owning this phone.
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'll try a sense based ROM for a while and see what happens.
Sent from my GT-p511x
Boy, not liking sense based ROM. Had to go back to CM11. Wondering now about various camera apps. Anyone have really good experience to recommend and app? What about Google photosphere?

Hi,
Recently, when I'm answering incoming calls, the sound goes straight to the speakerphone. it's really irritating. I'm on stock 4.3 .136. Rooted & u/l bootloader.
Any ideas would be appreciated...

It is incredibly irritating. Sometimes I forget about the bug and answer my phone when someone is in my office, it's pretty awkward when my phone blasts full volume speaker for no reason! and the problem is that apparently it's not relatd to the ROM because the bug was there in .290 and in .136 as well......

Cannot agree more... it's also a battery drain, for me at least, but I put up with it because it syncs with my desktop and I love that feature. But this is the last straw, I uninstalled it and the speaker problem went away, at least for now. didn't receive too many calls and it's pretty random.
We are not alone in this, there are a lot of different users with the same problem, which seemingly started around the same time.

Please let us know if it was indeed Chrome the culprit. Do some tests, and inform us, because, if I remember correctly, there was a Chrome update last week.

For me this started last Thursday. As some people already reported this is mostly first call for each day. I guess it's time to unlock bootloader and go custom...

Ok, that is what i found:
Last chrome update is causing some conflict with phone app, so uninstall all chrome updates or deactivate it and clear your phone app data and cache, doing this the problem is solved for me.
Had the same problem. Uninsatlling update for Chrome seemed to fix it.
Did not solve the issue for me. Even freezing and removing chrome did not resolve the issue
