I still need to download GSAM, but I've noticed this over the last couple days. I also have the Gear 2 Neo but I don't think it's causing the battery drain...

A lot of different variables to consider here...same old battery life complaint. Answer, it depends on the operator.

Same
I have the same issue here. The phone had about 30% battery before I went to sleep... Woke up with 1%.
40% is used by Android OS
20% by the Android system
7% by the Screen
The last 2 days mine has been decent, today has been terrible with really high Android System usage.

I should have been more specific, but this is with what I would call "general use". No video watching, gaming, streaming, which, IMO are the real battery killers. It doesn't seem right that you would lose 33% of the battery in that amount of time from a full overnight charge.

Android System is definitely higher than on my S4, but I don't think it's actually drain, something has to use that 24 of the 100%. I'm getting very good life with about 6 hours screen-on.
That said, it would be good to know exactly what's behind it being so high.
I've also noticed more wakeclocks than normal. I thought it was Google Now but I disabled background data for it and it didn't seem to change anything.
We've gotta get root so we can really fine tune things.

Strange i think its something youre doing. I power use all day from 530 am to 10 pm and i still have 25% before bed
I'm getting incredible battery life out of my S5 so far. Yesterday I checked last night and was at 33%, that's with being off the charger almost 14 hours (like 14hr 51min something like that), on screen time of 4 hours browsing with multiple tabs etc (no games), email, about 30 minutes of phone calls, couple text, and streaming music at the gym for an hour. Today I'm at 72% @ 8hr 31min off charger with streaming music about 2 hours (truck and gym), 45min on screen time, only a couple quick calls. I have GPS etc on, only thing I changed and I always do with Android, is set wifi to stay on in sleep only when plugged in, not sure if they fixed wifi bug Android has always had causing tons of wakelocks in sleep mode.

I'm not sure what I could be doing that drains the battery that much, but I'm not ruling out the watch either... Besides if it was something I'm doing, wouldn't that reflect in the battery usage?

Well, the gear 2 is connected all the time... But I had the first gear and that wasn't an issue. I'll have to see in the morning if it makes a difference. I'm on wifi 99% of the time. I have a Tab Pro 12.2 that's on wifi all the time and that thing is only down to like.. 70% after 2 days of light usage with a bluetooth keyboard connected. The battery seemed great a couple days ago and I haven't changed anything... I've actually done more.. used Google Navigation mostly...
I've had gsam on for the last 2 hours or so... am I going crazy or is this normal?

Give it a charge cycle at least.
However, I just noticed something that is really REAALLY messing with my head. I was just looking at my battery stats again and my phone is telling me it's been on battery for 4 hours 51m. It's 4pm here and i've been unplugged since 6am this morning. My earlier post show's 5 hours even! What gives??? The phone has rebooted once today manually. I just restarted again and can confirm that GSAM resets to zero (whatever), but the issue that's really messing with me is that the system battery and uptime shows 4 hours. WTF?! I'm seriously confused.
Something is fishy here...
I'm gonna let the battery drain completely this time...
Well I've had awesome life since I got the phone last Thursday, like I posted on the 1st page, except for last night. Did nothing different from before, no new apps or anything, I disabled sammy and at&t stuff earlier but the phone was fine after that. I went to bed and it was at 34% and woke up 7-8 hours later to a dead phone. No clue what could have caused that as the past week drain even in standby mode was phenomenal, have to install BBS.
Other night I went to bed and it only drained like 5% in the same time
I fully discharged the battery and it seems better now. But when I plugged back in, I noticed that the app called IM+ was running in the background in push mode... I'm not sure if that was causing the problem but it is much better now over the last couple of days
I had a horrible wakelock today, Directv geniego was running for 6.5 hours. Battery life has been great up till today.

I'm not getting nearly the battery life that others are claiming.
I just calibrated my battery this time, so we'll see how it goes.
Please post a screen shot of your 'settings -> about phone -> battery usage' and click on display and tell us the 'time on' numbers.
I have about 2 hours of 'time on' time, and I've gone through a third of my battery. And I have very conservative screen settings. I don't see any way I could get the reported 9 hours of video time that Engadget reported.
I'm not complaining though - on my mytouch 4g, I could get probably 3-4 hours of screen time on a battery. Considering how powerful this phone is, and the size/resolution of the screen...... No real complaints.
- Frank
P.S. Can you imagine a hyperion extended battery? The stock mytouch 4g battery is 1400, and the hyperion extended is 3500. So a hyperion extended battery for the note would be ..... 6250 mah??!?!? [email protected] What we need is an ibm 'slice' type of battery - that wouldn't add much thickness.

I can't wait until ICS & devs start making ROMs & kernel for the Note. I think then, we will see the Note truly shine.

What kind of battery life test would satisfy you then?
For instance:
I have used a variety of phones over the last 6 months (BB Torch 9800, Torch 9810, BB Bold 9700, Bold 9900, Galaxy 7" Tab P1000, HTC WP7 Mozart) and none of these devices can deal with my pattern of usage every day without at LEAST 2 full depletions and recharges of the battery.
I'm looking to the Note to be the first phone that can last a day, or at LEAST a day with only one recharge.
Engadget reckoned they got 9 hours of video playback on one charge. I do hope that this is indicative of the notes performance...

I am a heavy user. The only battery test I want is if the batter has juice left in it when you are ready to go to bed. I have a 4G Infuse, the POS would die in 6 hours. So lame.

Your post doesn't tell how the battery life is good. The part that consume the most of the juice is the display and I can see from your post that the screen of your Note was awake just for a little time...
So, trying a browsing and video experience would give us a better idea

That's a known ROM/kernel bug in Gingerbread, with AOS taking up so much time. It will be fixed in custom ROMs - though who knows if Samsung will fix theirs ??
Battery tip, if you have NO SIM card in, "cell standby" will tear through your battery in no time. Put it in airplane mode, then enable wifi FTW.
I'm having the same problem. Really frustrating. Needing a recharge every 12 hours or so. And I'm not a heavy user :-/
Dear all,
Today I change a animate wallpaper to static, the result is good, my battery level after same hour, same use is much better.
Before, I full charge at nigh, start use the phone from 7am, web, email at cafe to 8am, have some phone call, email, and web again from 9pm to 11pm.
With animated wallpaper, at 11pm battery is 0, but today, its still at 50%, its good!

Animated wallpapers are battery death unless they are pseudo animations like that melting droid wallpaper which is effectively a giant battery meter. It's like playing a movie constantly.
When judging battery life, you should take in account that if you just have bought the device, you maybe are using it more than you will in the future. (I said maybe, don't jump at me )
I did... And I got 12 hrs or something.... I think that I will manage a good day with it in the future.
Of course the largest consumer of juice will be the screen... So, use a low brightness whenever you can.
And, I bought Juice Defender + from the Market, this seems a good investment and works fine on the Note. (Free version does too)

I can live with a data connection that just every 15 minutes goes on to check mail etc.
(although some people complain when they don't hear from me within a minute )

Hi all
My phone was in for repairs recently. I got it back on the 8th (April 2012) and so I flashed the Vulnerable Recovery sbf and restored my CM7 backup I made the day it went in for repairs. Now, it's been a month, and I'm not sure what it used to be like, but my battery can't even last a day.
Currently I'm sitting on 92% and and took it off charge exactly an hour ago...and since I'm typing on my phone right now, by the time I'm done, it will probably be 90%.
Yesterday, with minimal use, my phone, after 12 hours unplugged, was on 17%.
Should I be concerned? I'm using CM7.1.5.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
actually dude... i also noticed that as well.. cm7 really drains the battery quick...
I need to know what you all are experiencing. It's just a few minutes shy of 12 hours since I unplugged. And apart from two 1 minute calls and updating 4 apps on the market, I barely used the phone (only checked this thread about 4 times on the XDA app). It's now at 14%. It's a bit worrying, because I'm still on my way home, and it's almost like I can't manage a day at work without needing to charge. And I don't carry a charger or USB cable around most of the time.
Please give me your inputs. I know this is a fairly common problem to hear about, but I'm sure my CM7 experience could be better. Ps, I have calibrated the battery. Mostly keep EDGE on instead of 3G if I'm not really using it. Also, never have the GPS on, nor WiFi, nor Bluetooth.

The milestone never got a good battery life. Since my gf had it new, she cant make a day. (she's not a "phone" girl, she use it for txt/call, thats it).
Around 25%, you have about 3 hours on sleep. if I use it, it will drop to 0 very fast.
The phose is a year and half old, 2 battery rotation and froyomod 2.9.3 rom.
And for the same time of use, my desire z can last 2 and a half easy.
I have a mugen 1700 battery (same size as the original one but 20% more power) and I can use my phone for 24 hours without charging (even if I usually charge it during night even if not completely discharged) .
I use 3g with toggle2g enabled, Facebook, whatsapp and other common apps and Widgets, I have autosync fully enabled, and I play games do less than one hour per day.
Maybe you should try a different battery

um, what?
My phone is now one year old with stock battery. It's has a decent battery life, with toggle2g enabled, full autosync with Facebook, Path, Twitter, Whatsapp, Google+, Dropbox, Gmail, I get about 12 hours with moderate usage.
Brightness is fixed at max.
But it is unstable. Some days my battery will last for 12 hours, some days it's at 15% in 5 hours.
I dunno if it is CM7, but sometimes the phone has dificulties in syncing and it does get really hot.
To me, the stock battery is too hot, and keeps discharging faster the more hot gets. My mugen never gets that hot, and never fluctuates that much in duration

Oh yeah, I notice that too. when you use the phone, maybe 5 minutes later, the phone is hot.
One other thing, the milestone can charge 20% to 100% in an hour. its really fast, and its not very good for a lithium battery since it comes very hot.
what are your average charging time?

actually, you should leave it a bit more in charging state, to avoid internal counter fail. That said, yes, the battery is rather fast in charging. I really suggest you the mugen battery, that's fast in charging but slow in discharging
Hmm, going through all of this, my usage doesn't seem too different to you guys. Maybe I should just get used to it. I actually did buy a spare battery off eBay - but it's just another BP6X battery. I think I will try this mugen battery.

Hello d.casper.b. I upgraded to CM7.1.5 (from stock Eclair) in Jan 2012. Since then I have a bit better batt life. Standard battery. I unplugged my phone yesterday (Sunday 15th Apr 2012) at about 12:30 - 1:00 pm. It's now Monday 3:10pm and I'm at 50%. My wifi is on all the time, except I turn it off when I go to bed so it don't wake me up with email or whatsapp messages. I don't have sync on and my phone is not on a data service. I have only used it for some light browsing since unplugged. No music or streaming data. No screensavers. Auto-brightness. I will use the bluetooth when driving home from work. That said - I typically get 24 hours+ on a full charge - except if I do some youtube or other streaming stuff.
That said - I don't think the ROM is the issue. You should try a battery calibration. Also - when it gets to 100% charge, leave it for at least 15-30 mins more plugged in.
Please stop suggesting battery calibrations. I really don't think anyone has a clue what they're talking about when they suggest it.
What you all call "battery calibrations" doesn't do anything other than make Android forget how the battery has been used -- that means the USAGE STATS. It can take a few charge/drain cycles before the battery meter reads true after that. It doesn't do a damn thing to your battery life.
destruct2k sorry - but no need to get hot under the collar about it. But in a sense - you have a point about the batt cal. It's been suggested on other threads - but I've never tried it - and so I shouldn't be recommending it to anyone. I only repeated what others had suggested some time back. Peace.
Anil - You're right, I overreacted there, but not too long ago I saw a 3-page article posted on Google+ by a woman that works on Android for a living about how "stupid" (her word, not mine) the concept was that deleting a file in software could somehow affect the battery's ability to hold a charge. Ever since that read, my opinion on "calibration" has changed significantly. If I could only find that article...
I have the same issue. And it's kinda strange because it's only comin up with CM 7.2
The worst battery life was 30 minutes. I charged it to 100% and I went for a walk before I went to my dance class to teach and after 30 minutes it's drained from 100 to 13% and I did nothing just listening to music. Weird. And when I charge my battery it's like going to 20% like in 5 mins and then 2 mins later it's on 60% and then 40 minutes later it's charged...I'm tryna find a solution for it cos it's soooo frustrating and I don't wanna change my phone til Milestone 4 is coming out!
Have new Sprint HTC One and when first using it out of the box, battery life seemed to be real good.
Mods I have made.. Unlocked and am running OMJ's custom ROM.
Here is what I am questioning now.. (my 14 days are almost up):
I leave it charge all night and first thing in the morning, I use it for 15-20 minutes catching up on mail, facebook and news. I am connected to wifi in the home. What I am experiencing is a 6% battery drain from this pretty consistently and display on auto brightness in a dark room in the morning. Last night I set power saver to including cpu, diaplay and data connection. I had the display set dimmer than normal/what the auto brightness would be. I experienced the same 6% drop this morning.
I am not sure what to think, its kind of disconcerting to think you wack 6% of battery before the first cup of coffee.
I have no data, but am wondering if anyone has see lesser batter just from unlocking?
OMJ's ROM is pretty stock, so I would not think that is causing any issues.
I am looking to see what others are experiencing from there initial 15-20 minute usage.
I am open to any input that could help me conclude that there is not an issue with the phone so I can stop worrying about meeting the 14 day return deadline.
Edit: Adding images and info to attempt to create a baseline for others to compare to. Images are from GSam Battery Monitor available in the market.
The images show 30 minutes of use after unplugging from a full charge, Power Saver off, Brightness set to Dim and using WiFi. Screen using 18% and Apps using 75%... you can also see the specific apps being used.
It would be great if others could mimic and provide their results. This would allow us all to have something to compare to.
it could just be the battery technology. i know with some laptops here at work they dont really "fully charge" the battery to increase the battery life span. so this could be a normal thing. For me personally im more concerned about the phone lasting atleast through the whole day before i have to charge it.

Yea I mean I'm not sure how much you use your phone a day but I'm seeing consistently approx 4-4.5 hrs of screen on time a day. Unplug the phone at 7am and plug it in when I got to bed usually around 11pm. Some days if I'm watching a lot of video or playing games I'll have to plug it in around 8pm or so but that isn't too often

Anyone want to do a small comparison test?
Set brightness to auto, charge to 100% and then use for 15 minutes checking mail, Facebook, web surfing, or whatever (simple activity, not gaming), in normal ambient room lighting, using WiFi, Power Saver off. Then report your battery level after the 15 min.

Oh, I am all over that. Did the calibration yesterday. I have not noticed a significant difference, but I do agree this is a needed step. Especially when changing between significantly different ROMs. Thanks for pointing it out.
What I am really looking for from others are some comparison results. I have created some pictures this morning and will be adding them to my post, in an attempt to create a baseline that others can use to do the exact same and provide a result. This should allow others and myself to see if there is any significant difference between our devices.
I edited my post with baseline settings and images.
Would be great if others could mimic and post results.

I have created some pictures this morning and will be adding them to my post, in an attempt to create a baseline that others can use to do the exact same and provide a result. This should allow others and myself to see if there is any significant difference between our devices.

Hehe Sorry when I read my post it seems kind of snappy and nothing about your reply led me to this conclusion. I understand your looking for a comparison and I think its safe to say I easily use 5-10% of my battery life first thing when I get up and check all of my stuff.

No problem. I appreciate your input.

How do you have a extremely low awake time, and your kernel usage is only 0.9%? My unrooted stock kernel runs from 20%-35% at any given time.

I use autostarts from playstore to prevent certain apps from starting and running in the background, unless I need them to. Here's another screen shot of around 19 min reading xda and around 40 min listening to the music.

Your link is not working.. Your previous post of performance is awesome! I tried that ROM and loved it but don't like the all black and blue. Maybe I should of spent more time with hit.. Is there a way to make it look like normal colors?

Does anybody know if limiting background processes to zero will help battery life? My phone had 1hr 20min awake times with 12 mins screentime/usage after 8-9 hours.
This was with absolutely no power saving at all, whatsoever. Phone was around 75% after those 9 hrs I believe, with kernel taking 33%, and radio taking ~15. Fresh after factory reset. Only apps were Email, Doodlejump, GSAM, ES, Keep and Swiftkey.
Tomorrow I will turn off auto sync, limit background processes, and turn on power saver/sleep mode. Let's see how much that helps.
Here's what in doing most of the drain comes from having only 1 bar in my new dorm

Hey all. I just got my s6 active via insurance upgrade about 5 days ago.. I expected more battery from what I read... I unplugged it this morning at 525 and by 625 I was at 92%. Is this normal? The battery screen doesn't add up to the battery % lost. I'm just trying to figure out how everyone is getting this great battery. Is it possible they sent me a referbed with a used battery? Many days/weeks of running the phone will it take in order for the battery to even out?

Seems like your phone doesn't go into deep sleep. There is a rogue app that is probably causing your phone not going into deep sleep. Find the app cure the problem.
Yes it does take many cycles for the battery to reach optimal battery life
Nothing keeping it alive.... Cpu sleep time is the majority of the time. I do use my phone heavily. But i get about the same life as I did with my s5 active..
Same here. I "upgraded" from a 6S on the premise of much better battery life and waterproof without the need of a LifeProof case.
So far I'm getting about the same, maybe less life out of it than my iPhone. I've been out of the Android game for almost 2 years, what can I do to fix this?
Based on battery tests and whatnot, I should be losing around 6-7% per hour, instead of the 10-12% I'm losing now, about on par with an iPhone with half the battery size.
Any help is appreciated.
EDIT: Noob mistake, forgot to mention I'm on the forced 5.1.1 version.

The 5.1.1 version was a battery hog for me too. Before it, i would make it til bedtime with about 30-40% battery of moderate usage. During the 5.1.1 upgrade i was at 40-50% before lunch! Had to charge twice daily. Now with Marshmallow, i'm back up to all day battery. Even lately being a heavy user, it'll generally last all day. I might be at 5% by bedtime, but it'll last all day.

How much SOT do you get?
I lose about 6% per hour if I watch videos on wifi, however I lose 1% every 6-7 minutes if I'm using my phone for anything else.
What system process is killing the battery? There's no reason I shouldn't get over 12 hours of SOT from daily usage.

I don't know how to say this without sounding condescending, i don't mean to, but you're insane if you think you should get anywhere near 12 hours SOT. Let alone "no reason I shouldn't get over 12 hours of SOT". I doubt I could get 12 hours SOT with 2 batteries.
I average 5-6 hours SOT which i think is actually pretty awesome, (And that's with the dark theme). I honestly don't count battery percentages and compare videos to surfing/browsing. I just know that i can use my phone all day and I don't have to charge it until bedtime.

Their web browsing test is a more realistic expectation, which is why I said 12. They got 16 hours, which I don't doubt, but this phone draining comparably to a 4+ year old HTC? Not at all impressed.
I have screenshots where I tested their results vs actual daily usage and they were very close for every phone.
But no worries, I'm glad you're satisfied with your phone's performance.

http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...-how-much-screen-time-you-getting-charge.html
A few new phones have come out with massive batteries, but still not 12 hours SOT. One guy with a 10Ah zerolemon on his note 4 was able to get 16 hours (unverified), but that's the best i've ever heard.
http://blog.gsmarena.com/samsung-galaxy-s6-active-battery-life-test/
The One X, S3, LG G2, and iPhone 6 & 6S web browsing results were great representations of what I could expect as far as smartphone battery goes. I've had more phones than I can count, but those were the ones I kept the longest and remember the results off the top of my head.
I can find my old One X SOT screenshots to further prove my point.

This makes no sense to me. In their test, the battery lasted longer playing videos, than web surfing? Something is off here. I've never seen a phone have more than 6 hours SOT, ever (with the exception of extended batteries). Maybe if the phone was in extreme battery saver mode and the screen was at the lowest setting possible, and it was only on 3g, it might be possible to get 6 hours. I'm not calling you a liar, or the article you posted a lie, i just have to believe something else is going on. If i was to get 12+ hours of SOT, for me, that would be equivlent to the phone lasting me all work week.
I hope you get your battery life figured out, but i have to believe we're on different pages here about something. There was an update pushed out this morning, maybe it will help a little.
Not getting this "awesome" battery life??
Yes, this is due to less CPU usage and videos/movies are not almost entirely white.
I looped a couple of YouTube movies and left the S6 Active running all night at 50% brightness with only wifi on. I woke up, 8 or so hours of SOT, and the battery has 59% left. This leads me to believe it's a system app, more than likely a Samsung one, since all of my other Android phones don't have this issue.
I'll post up actual pictures when I get home, I'm back on my iPhone.
You haven't been here long, which is fine, but trust me when I say that there's something draining the battery. A G2 with a 3000mAh battery lasted over 9 hours consistently with data on, the S6A should have no problem matching that.

Hello I have recently purchased an used S6 active gsm unlockrd with android 5.1. This is my first day with it I still don't know about the battery stats anyway I would like to know if I will get improvement in marshmallow. What are the advantages. Also since at the s6 and s6 edge the marshmallow update improved the camera speed. I would like to know if it will improve also the camera speed. Thanks

Hmmm, maybe i'm just considering real world use instead of ideal conditions. Kinda like how i'm supposed to get 35 mpg in my car, but actually only get about 26-27.
When i was on 5.1.1 and had insane battery drainage, all of my research and testing said it was kernel related. I just stuck it out and waited for marshmallow, and now my battery is back to acceptable to me.
Keep us updated if you figure it out, even though i'm relatively happy with my battery life, i'm always happy to get more.
P.S. I've actually been here longer than you, so i'm not sure if that was directed at me. You are way more active and most likely way more software savvy than i am, but i've been here a long time.

I meant brightness, too many ideas at once haha. I'm posting actual pictures in a second, and will keep the phone running while I'm at work.
It has to do with a Samsung "feature", I've turned off most of them from settings. Next will be disabling packages.
It sucks that we don't have root, it seems like an AOSP Rom would net us the battery life that we should get.

Hi guys. I just bought my phone today installed all the apps and then fully charged it. However I am getting poor battery life. What is causing my battery to be crap? I don't see what the issue can be as it is a brand new phone. Coming from the sony xz premium i feel as if its a downgrade on the battery end of things. Does anyone have a suggestion
I thought my battery was terrible at first when I got it. I noticed lately I have not noticed so much anymore. Right now phone been on for 2 hours straight and lost 25% with brightness half way. Just give it time

It scares me that battery life is not going to be any good and I have to hunt for the charger through out the day. With my xz premium with about 4 hours usage i normally had 40 to 50% remaining. I don't want to think about charging my phone just to get through a day. Lets just wait and see if it gets any better

Android needs some time to adapt to your apps.
I bought my Note8 three days ago and don´t used it permanently respectively don´t have so many apps installed.
I charged it 2 days ago (at 18 o´clock it was fully charged!), now I have 48%
Before I bought my Note 8 I had a Mate 10 Pro with 4000 mAh and 60-70 apps. Android needed 3-4 days to adapt. In the first days I had to charge every day. After a week the Mate 10 Pro had to be charged only once in 2 days.
So do not worry!
Watching this with interest. Mine is a week old and I feel like I need to keep topping it up. On the road all day today and worried she won't make it!
I've a charger in the bag. But going to see how far I get!

Thats what i was saying while i have the chance i might return it and get the Pixel XL 2 or the mate 10 pro. I believe both have better battery life. The pixel loses out on screen quality but makes up with software and battery life. The mate 10 pro loses on software but kills it on battery life. So tough choice to make. However i can't stand poor battery life especially never having to worry about battery life on the sony xz premium
Had mine since day one and the battery gets better the longer you use it. I have several things disabled that are big battery suckers - Bixby for one, don't want or need it. I can go 1-2 to days of moderate use, using an ereader app but no game playing.

The better question is, what apps did you install? You need to just use your phone for a few days. It will begin to background/sleep apps you aren't using which will extend your battery life.

Like myself and others have said, just use the device. You're comparing a device you used for a period of time to a device you just got just over 24 hours ago.
Those apps are considered battery hogs because they don't sleep. Also, Xperia devices have a sleep function implemented. They were the first ones to ever have such a robust background sleep function of Android devices.
The sleep function should be on automatically during setup but it could be turned off. Look under battery settings and it'll be there with the option to turn it off. I recommend keeping it on.

I've disabled knox, security folder, bixby, ant radio all the t-mobile apps, several of the edge screens and a few others.
As others have pointed out, the device needs some days and several charging cycles to achieve a good performance, besides, and very important, in settings>device maintaince>battery, there are 2 groups of apps that you can choose, always sleeping apps and unmonitored apps, there you can control their behaviour

Yeah some of the Samsung apps and services being disabled will actually cause more drainage to occur.
