I've searched around both the web and forum, but haven't been able to find any means of removing the Nook library bar from the bottom on the stock ROM.
I keep tapping it, when what I really want to do is, opening the apps menu.
I'm currently running Nookie Froyo, but have since been made aware of the battery overcharge "problem" with that/other ROMs, and would therefor like to go back to stock, so something doesn't go up in flames
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
First, Checkout Zeam launcher. It has a full screen option, that gets rid of the BN bar. You lose your notification bar, too though. Perhaps that in conjunction with another app to recover notification bar might work?
Second, overcharge issue?
1. Ok, I admit I have not tried Zeam, but I'm really hooked on Launcher Pro, and would like to stay with that.
I was basicly asking for a way to mod the stock rom, so I gets a normal Android feel to it (including a normal notification bar).
2. About the battery overcharging/overheating thing, I'm refering to is from this
As I can't post URLs yet, because of low post count, but if you search for:

you'll find it for sure.
To quote from the article:
An unmodified Nook Color will shut down if it believes that the battery is getting too hot. If you install Froyo, the Nook recognizes it, but it'll shut down immediately. To get around this, Jesse disabled Android’s batteryservice, the software component that monitors the Nook Color's battery temperature. This means that the Nook Color's battery could overheat (thus damaging the unit), or worse--explode--as a result as this mod.

I seen anywhere that this hack isn't necessary any more, but I'd like to be corrected.
The thing that makes me think that this has not been fixed yet, is that the charging is a bit weird on my NC with Nookie Froyo 0.6.8.custom.3 eMMM.
I left it to charge over night, and in the morning the chargemeter on the lockscreen still said 58% + the N on the charger cable was still orange.
When I unplugged it, it remained on 58% till some power was used and it increased/decreased to 99%.
Has anyone else experienced this behavior when charging on Froyo?

Yes, I'm on Eclair (stock) but I noticed my battery charge report takes a while to update after a charger. Though my cable does turn green when expected.
I've tried search for an answer, but I can't seem to find a thread specifically for this device & issue.
My wife got a Kindle Fire HD 7 on launch day. She's been really disappointed with standby battery life. As is today - she loses 2-3% per hour in stand-by. Is that normal with these devices? If she turns wifi off during sleep it appears like it uses almost no battery.
I have a Nexus 7 - with Wifi policy set to Always on - I lose maybe 5-7% per day.
Now here's the kicker - she's worked with Kindle support and they sent her a new unit. Unfortunately she's seeing the same behavior. She's fully stock, no root, doesn't want to modify. I'm cursing amazon for gimping the battery stats in ICS. At least I can see on my Nexus who/what is using power.
I've had her try resetting the device and just leaving it not setup (no apps, just clean) does the same thing. Maybe I set her expectations too high, but I've owned a Galaxy Tab 7 Plus and the Nexus 7 - they use no where near the amount of power in stand-by. Heck my galaxy nexus was a 95% after 4 hours of standby; her fire was at 90% with absolutely no use - and I actually used my phone a bit whereas the kindle was just sitting in the living room.
Of note: the kindle itself does not appear to get 'hot' when in standby.
Did I set her expectations too high for a 7" tablet? Or is there something more going on here? The only thing I haven't tried is having her deauthorize her kindle and connect to my account (to see if it's some weird 'sync' related issue).
Sorry if I ranted a bit - I pride myself on figuring this kind of stuff out by lurking on forums - this one has me stumped!
That is not normal. I had lots of issues trying to figure out the KFHD battery drain issues and have been cautious on what to install. However if you do have location services turned on, it will drain the battery like no tomorrow. Once I turned it to off, I noticed my device will finally achieve deep sleep. Also check any apps that auto update data. The stock email is fine but things like hootsuite will keep it awake if you let it auto check for messages. I also noticed certain widgets such as Pandora may keep it from going to deep sleep even if I never ran the app. I found the KFHD to be very finicky. I went over to Nexus 7, I don't want a device that requires babysitting.
What is the best way to tell if the kindle is in deep sleep ?

Yeah - location services are off. Just did another factory restore and signed in with my Amazon account (nothing configured beyond sign in) to see if it still does the same thing. My nexus uses less power web browsing than the kfhd in stand by

I use cpuspy app, it only works on rooted devices.
Also OP, make sure your wife manually turns off the screen when the device is not in use. I noticed the battery drains rather fast if you let it time out in that 5 min. Also use auto brightness. Otherwise I'm not sure what else to tell you. Once I found my culprits, the battery life was much better.
On a side note, don't use any apps that modify wifi settings. That will break whatever hidden setting that Amazon has programmed and you can't get it back without a rest. Unlike the first edition KF, wifi will stay on, at least for exchange emails.

Yeah she's button OCD - so no problem there. She's used manual brightness set at like 30%.
I specifically did a factory reset last night on the 'old' device - signed in to my account (to remove her account as the 'cause'), charged up to 100%, unplugged and let set overnight (10 hours on the nose) - screen was off the whole time. Lost 33% battery! Gosh I wish I had a full battery stats Now she's looking at the new Nook.

Are you using the Kindle Fire HD?
Lucky you!!
My kindle fire hd 7, drains the battery even when its completely turned off (shut down).
Last night the battery goes from 29% to 9% in 15 hours while the tablet was turned off.
I'm guessing this is a hardware error or something similar on my side but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
When my battery gets low I get warnings but once I reach 1% my HD+ continues to remain powered for a time and then simply turns off without shutting down. I'm assuming because the power is completely drained. Don't want to damage my battery but I often don't notice if I'm reading.
Going to try a battery calibration, anyone know what the Nook HD+ average maximum mV is?

Hello
thanks a lot Jcsullins : first time I use your builds and I'm quite impressed.
On my side I have too the problem of the charge mentionned by copene: 97% max.
Yet I noticed that when I connect a USB cable from PC to my TP (boths on), it doesn't charge. Is it normal ?
Thanks

Wifi works fine while in webOS with no issues at the university. I get a weak signal when ever I use android unless I am standing right next the router. This is only when I am at my university where they use Cisco routers, when at homeI have no issues with my belkin router, always a strong signal. Any thoughts on how i can fix this?

I picked up two brand new 32GB Nexus 7's for the TouchPad-esque price of $150 each. Now it's time to say goodbye to my two 32GB TouchPads.
I used the TouchPad Toolbox to generate one 32GB partition and installed the June or July version of this ROM. When I go to sell them, would just using the Factory Reset button in the CM settings erase all data on the TouchPads? This also means I don't have any real WebOS data left, correct?
All I want to do is erase all data on the TouchPads. I will let the buyer assume the risks of installing a new ROM.

Battery drain problem after upgrading TP from CM10 to CM11
Hi everyone.
I haven't used my TP in a while so I decided to dust it off and upgrade it from CM10 to CM11.
I followed these instructions by resetting my device and re-installing Webos
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426244
I then followed these instructions to install TP Toolbox
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2756314
After Toolbox was installed I downloaded the nightly build cm-11-20141016-UNOFFICIAL-tenderloin and installed pa_gapps-stock-4.4.4-20141011-signed.
The device works amazing, except for the fact that the battery life has dwindled down to maybe 50% of what it used to be when I was running CM10. I find that even with the device was in sleep mode that it still drains heavily. Previously my TP would last 2-3 days in sleep mode before requiring a charge. Now I would be very lucky if I can get even 1 day of battery.
I did some reading and installed the A6 firmware hoping that it would fix the problem, but no luck.
Any suggestions, or recommendations on what I can to do fix this?
Thanks!
Update to a newer build as improvements are being constantly normally for the better.
Have fun.

I experienced something similar. I alos did the A6 frimware flash via TPToolbox and I am running jcs cm-11-20141002 build and the 4.4.4-20140105 gapps. I found that if I charge the touchpad on the touchstone, sometimes I get abut -170 mA when sleeping (via Battery Monitor Widget). If I charge or just plug into the normal wall charger for a few minutes, then I get about -6 to -8 mA when sleeping. I don't know what is causing the difference. I need to do some testing and see if making it sleep (pressing the power button momentarily) while on the touchstone makes a difference, or if making it sleep just before removing it, or having it awake just before removing it makes any difference. I will test and post the results.

Yes, I do have daydream enabled to be active when on the docking station. And just to be clear, it is after I remove it from the dock (touchstone) that I see the -170 mA battery drain vs. after removing from the wall charger, I see the - 6 mA battery drain. I will test it with daydream disabled to see if that makes a difference. I am wondering why the difference in sleep mode after removing from the charging stand vs from the wall charger. Both seem to charge the touchpad just fine.
Update: I turned off daydream function before placing tablet on touchstone last night. Checked it this morning and tablet appears to be sleeping at -6 mA. Will test again this evening to see if this is an anomaly or a solution.
Thanks
Just wanted to give Jc Sullins the proper thanks and respect. I've used his software to make otherwise medicore, nearly worthless tablets into well performing, useful, and desirable devices. Using Ubuntu I've debricked many tablets that were practically given away on eBay. Using touchpad Toolbox it has not only erased the useless webOS and reformatted to Android but has also reflashed the a6 firmware so these 3-4 year old tablet batteries last over a week on standby. The near flawless rom of Android 4.4.4 has given me countless hours of enjoyment, a great variety of features, and performance where friends with newer nexus devices can barely tell the difference. Hats off to this man who truly is a master of his craft.
Audio lag when streaming from live video sites
Anyone else have a problem when streaming from live video sites like ones listed below? I'm not talking about video sites like Hulu, or Sidereel where you watch videos that are uploaded, and cached. I frequently watch live sporting events online, and since upgrading to CM11 there is like a 2 second audio lag. I'm using Dolphin Browser with Jetpack installed.
Everything worked fine in CM10, and I didn't even require Dolphin back then.

Help updating Android on Touchpad
Well, it has been over two years since I first put android on my touchpad and I would like to update it. Currently, I run out of storage space because it only give me 2GB out of the 32 to install apps. I believe there is a 50 app limit too.
This is what I am currently running:
Android Version: 4.0.4
Kernal Version: 2.6.35-palm-tenderloin Dated Aug 4 2012
I have tried reading this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712680
And this one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2756314
I am still a little confused though.
I don't care about saving anyting on the Touchpad, so a complete wipe is just fine. I was hoping that I could just install an updated version and run it. One that would remove the partition, and since I never use it anymore, webOS.
Is that something I can do? I get confused about installing the recovery and gapps. I already have those, do I have to install them again?
I would appreicate any help on this. I know you all know a lot on here, and I don't remember it being this confusing two years ago, but any help would be greatful.
I just want to make sure I do it right and follow the right steps.
Battery can be at 90% in a blink of an eye drop to the point of a warning pop up showing 1 percent battery life, then shuts off.
If I plug it in battery level is back up where it should be.
Sometimes shutting it off for a few minutes & restarting battery level comes back up or just plug it in, level jumps right back up then unplug it, level stays up.
This problem has been going on for awhile, at first it was just hit & miss, more of minor annoyance, but now it is a royal pain in the behind.
As long as I am where I can plug it in for a minute or so I can still use the tablet. Kind of hard to do when reading at the gym though
I am running CM 11 on it, but I don't really think this is what the problem is since I have been CM 11 since it first came out & this problem started about 2-3 months ago. I tried wiping the whole system & started over with nothing but the bare minimum on the tablet & issue with battery level was still present.
Somebody my wife works with had this same issue with their Nook HD+, but luckily his was still under warranty and B&N replaced it.
I don't have that option.
Any ideas on fix for this issue other than buy another tablet?
Help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Mark

I would've bought a new tablet 2-3 months ago. lol ...Unfortunately, mine keeps on going.
If you really want to see if its hardware, then try stock bn rom and check for issue.
You could also try full power discharge to full charge (several times) and see if it helps. I would try the bn rom first though as that's the most drastic difference.
And if it gives up on you along the way, c'est la vie.

Sorry to have taken up your time.
I solved this problem. To do this, disconnect and reconnect the battery cable. Now the battery is discharged smoothly. Battery life 8-10 hours

In the beginning doing what worked for you would take care of it, but not any more.

I had similar issue back in March. I read somewhere that it is battery cable connection/cold-solder problem. I opened up my nook and unplug/re-plug in the battery cable, didn't work. And then I taped a few layers of TP on top of the connector so that the back cover of the nook is supporting the connector. The battery discharge was back to normal since, but unfortunately it started to happen again last week.

I had the same problem, with battery charge level appearing to fluctuate wildly. In the end, I fixed it by doing a full discharge followed by a full recharge.
You can't do a full discharge while running the normal ROMs, because they will shut down the Nook automatically when the charge level starts to get low. Instead, run a CWM ROM and let it sit until the Nook dies for lack of power. Then plug in the battery cable and leave it until the charge level returns to 100%. In my case that took quite a few hours.
Since doing that, I haven't had any repeats of the problem.

That is a bad idea the Nook does not like to recharge once it has been drained to that point.

I am running CyangenMod 11 & battery drops from 100% to 1% whenever it feels like it. Plug it in for a second & level shoots back up to were it should be for a while then it does it all over again.
If the rom you are talking about is what I have installed I have tried & tried to run the battery completely down, but it is impossible.
Long as I have charging cable handy to plug it in things are fine.
Thanks for the suggestion.

My Nook HD+ too have this problem after updating to Snapshot11 OTA. Currently it is unusable without the cable being connected to the power. Also have the ghost click/automatic click problem, where the touch events automatically registered without me even touching the screen. Waiting for the Snapshot 12 and hope that this will be corrected in the update.

I am running the 10-24 nightly. This is the same release I am using on my wife's Nook HD & she is not having this issue.
Not seeing the auto click issues.

I was talking about CWM, not CyanogenMod. CWM is the ROM you use for making backups and installing Cyanogen in the first place. CWM will let you run the battery down to a very low level.

It was probably confusing because CWM isn't a ROM, it's a recovery. If we get our terms and definitions right we will be more easily understood.
Not trying to pick a fight, just pointing out that communication is easier when we all have the same jargon.

I know what the terms mean. I just was tired & made a very simple mistake in my reply.
I know that CWM is recovery I have used it plenty of times for the past 2 years since I have owned my Nook HD.
My only mistake with terms & definitions was replying & answering a question when i should have been sleeping.
Want to pick a fight, bring it own! Just kidding you. I only do that in person, not behind a screen. Been a few years, but what the heck.
OK back to the topic at hand. Doing a full discharge in CWM recovery, didn't seem to do the trick. Tried unhooking battery & rehooking no go there either.
I do not believe it is a rom issue, since my wife works with a guy who had the same issue with his Nook that had the B&N setup still intact.
rom.
Plus I am running the same rom on my wife's Nook HD problem free.
Once again thank you very much for the suggestion I really do appreciate it.

I solved this problem. To do this, disconnect and reconnect the battery cable. Now the battery is discharged smoothly. Battery life 8-10 hours

Didn't work
Seems to be others with this issue. I have tried removing battery cable, doing a complete battery drain in recovery, then full recharge. Problem is still there.
I am almost tempted to revert back to stock rom & see if problem goes away, but seems to be a bit tricky with the newer CWMrecovery installed.
Have gone through so many threads on reverting back to stock, I am more confused now then before.
I know I can't restore stock with the version of CWM that I have, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to revert back to the older version of CWM recovery, so I can flash the stock img.
I have the links for the dummies guide and I am sure what I am looking for is there, but as was mentioned here before I need to get with the program & use correct terms and the more I read this the more confused it makes me.

Go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and make a new bootable CWM SD per item 1a and then use that to flash the plain stock zip from item 6.

Thank you, not sure if this will solve the issue, but I got the time to give it a shot.
What's your thoughts on this battery issue?
I have a funny feeling it is hardware related.
Once again thank you for all of your help
