Hey -
Please help! I received my M8 last night rooted. As soon as I finished I keep getting the system update is ready message. Can anyone please let me know how to turn this off please? It is driving me crazy.
Thanks!
Kinda related. Just got my M8 got it rooted and s-off. I don't want to take the update and lose root correct? I just flash a rom and I'm good to go, correct? Or was there firmware on the update? TI A

Yes, can anyone answer the question? My s-off phone keeps wanting to take the OTA update and there seems to be no place to turn off automatically checking for OTA updates. How do I get it to quit trying to update?
Flash an updated rom

I rooted my Nexus One with the 1-click androot and today I've received the 2.2.1 update (FRG83) OTA. I don't want to install it because it'll unroot, but the notification is really persistent and irritating, and I'm afraid I'm going to accidentally hit the install button.
How can I make it go away?
Install a custom recovery, make sure it works, try to flash the rom, it will fail because it needs to stock recovery to install, delete the update from /cache/.
That will at least leave you with a little time before it tries to notify you again. Best thing to do is load a rooted custom rom with a build.prop mod to make it think it's a version better/same so it won't try and update you.
I thought I had to have an unlocked bootloader in order to install a custom recovery or flash custom roms. Is this not the case?
I also have rooted with the one click but have clockworkmod recovery with stock rom. I just received the update ota and I am confused as to what would happen if I attempt to install it. Will it just abort or will it brick the device? Would just a battery pull and reboot be all thats necessary? Has any new roots come out for this update? I really dont want to lose my root. Any and all help is appreciated.

I was in the same boat as you yesterday. I didn't think of the recovery so I hit update because I was tired of the notification. The phone applied the update successfully and I don't have root anymore. I have no idea how that impacts the recovery since ClockworkMod says the ClockworkMod recovery is installed.
Would like to know as well. Do not want to lose one-click root and would love to get rid of that stupid notification.

this user says he has gotten it to stop via this method. I cannot verify yet as I have not received the OTA
For me that seems to have stopped the OTA nagg screen.
Using quickboot to reboot then clearing the notification, I have not got another OTA nagg screen. I like the 1 click root, turn on when needed off when not.

I'm willing to try anything after 100+ "install later" replies Quickboot here I come
Thank you! I don't know why Quick Boot worked, but it seems that it has. It's now been a couple of hours without a notification message when they were coming back every few minutes. Thanks!
wouldn't it be cool if we got around Google's grand plan to force us to update by driving us crazy!?

If you have rooted 24A with a stock recovery, you can take the OTA and retain root..
Ok so I figured I'd ask here instead of making a new thread since it's sort of relevant. Hope not to thread jack. I have a vs980 rooted on 24a with stock rom and twrp. My phone tried to update to 25b yesterday and I canceled it by switching from WiFi to 4g. 2 questions I have are can I take the update and stay the same or not yet since I have twrp? And 2 it started downloading automatically, if I can't take the update is there a way to keep it from downloading again? Thanks in advance.

1) It won't install without the factory recovery.
2) You have to remove/disable/freeze the updater app to stop it from prompting you. (I don't remember the exact name of it)
So there really isn't any harm in letting it download since it won't install without factory recovery? I'll check the apps I have frozen again I thought I froze it, but maybe not. Thanks. Do you know if it's simply called system updates?
Software Update is the app name people are freezing using Titanium, don't know what the .apk is, I have a debloated rom currently. You should be able to find and rename the .apk for Software Update to stop it.
I've been using ultimate backup lite and I have a system update app I could freeze just wanted to make sure it was the right one. Tried to post a picture, but I don't have enough seniority.
is ioroot still the best rooting tool?
Also when I take 25 will I have to reinstall twrp?

Did you do this personally? I have stock rooted 24A now. I am using xposed and other root apps. Will the OTA effect any of that?

Just repeating what someone said in the other update thread...

I have a rooted s5, stock ROM just rooted to over clock and change emojis, neither of which were worth it. I have the ota alert for lolipop, I want to update, loosing root is fine. I searched about the results of doing ota I got mixed results. Will I brick if I update? Will I loose everything? If there is a thread or post about this and I'm that oblivious, please link it. All help is appreciated

Will not update. You need to remove root and get back to 100% stock firmware.

What is your software now?
You can try full unroot in super user app then ADB side load OTA updates.

Quite honestly I would someone finding a solution for the persistent notification. maybe an xposed module could get rid of that if it is ever made.
Just because of the nagging notification I updated my phone in the ugliest way possible, relocking and unlocking it and using the firmware.zip from the OTA with a TWRP backup a guy made

the easystes way to get rid of OTA is to update the phone.
Just flash stock recovery, reboot phone, install OTA, re-flash TWRP.
Its a pain but its done properly.
You dont need to mess with bootloader.
i was thinking about an easier way

According to Slim, root is broken on the new update. They also changed the bootloader so you can't downgrade. They apparently want everyone to update to the new software.

Of course they do... they don't want folks rooting... Sammy knows what's up... if they were decent they'd give us a bootloader unlock to make up for rushing the devices to market to beat Apple on the release date (which is already cracked smh) and catch a few more percent of market share...

I was able to root. You just can not take the new update, it will prevent root and will not be able to revert back to the old firmware..

For clarification, you were able to root a replacement note 7?
I read, somewhere, that the update starts when you power it on the first time. I am hoping to root mine immediately to avoid the update.

Yes you are correct. The update starts to download when you power up the phone, but you can pause the download or postpone it for later install. This is what happened on my phone.

Awesome thank you for clarifying.
Once I saw there was complete root with volte I went straight to download mode and did the process. Glad I didn't take the update because it blocks root and the sprint engineer rom.
